Spy. Liar. Scoundrel. Redcoat.

Provocateur and spy for His Majesty, Captain John Carlisle returns to Fort Niagara with the secrets he stole in the arms of the beautiful Oneida innkeeper, Dellis McKesson. Determined to complete his mission and clear his name, he’ll see justice done—and damn the consequences. Now, he finds himself drawn into political intrigue as the British prepare to launch a three-pronged attack that will bring the Rebels and the Mohawk River Valley to its knees.

A dangerous revelation finds Dellis as whispers of intrigue insinuate her beloved is not all that he seems. Unwilling to wait for her lover’s return, she sets out in search of the truth as the Onieda begin negotiations with the Rebels, breaking the neutrality agreement with the crown. A bold move that will stoke a fire between the brother tribes and lead to a bloody inter-confederacy war—one Dellis predicted, and one John incited.

While war between the colonies and the King smolders, the punishing winter of 1777 allows the perfect opportunity for old enemies to settle scores, lying in wait, ready to exploit John’s one weakness—his heart. John is not an innocent man. The truth he’s long tried to hide from can no longer be ignored, the ghosts of the past seeking justice, and karma wanting payment for sins so dark they cannot be forgiven.

I loved this book! After the way that The Tory ended, there was no doubt that I was going to read (or listen) to the next book in the series. I just hoped that this installment would be as good as the preceding one. You know what? It was even better in my opinion. This was one of those books that I couldn't wait to get back to when I wasn't listening and looked forward to those opportunities that I did have to slip on a pair of headphones. I really had a fantastic time with this book.

This series really is a saga. I am only two books in but I feel like I have been through a lot with this cast of characters already. This book picks up right after the last book ended. Since we already know the characters, the story takes off right away. Dellis finds out that John is actually a Redcoat and sets out with her cousin Alexei to find out exactly what is going on.

The characters in this book were phenomenal. Dellis is a strong woman and she faced some challenges in this book that really broke my heart. John is the kind of man that will stand by his word and is very loyal. Together, these two just worked perfectly. They have such good chemistry with each other and you can feel how much they care for each other as the story unfolds. The supporting characters were equally well done. The villains of the story were equally well developed and were truly vile humans.

The narration was top-notch. I am a big fan of full-cast productions and I must say that this was a stellar team working on this book. I felt like each narrator really brought their characters to life and brought a lot of emotion into their delivery. I loved the fact that conversations between characters utilized multiple narrators making everything flow quite naturally. The quality of the narration added a lot to my overall enjoyment of the story.

I would recommend this series to others. This was a captivating listen that really pulled at my heartstrings. I feel like I have been on quite the journey with Dellis and John and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

I received a digital audiobook review copy of this book from the author/publicist.

Initial Thoughts
Well, this was fabulous! I loved the full cast narration and I was totally sucked into the story. The characters are amazing and I thought that there was a lot of emotion in their portrayal. This series does need to be read in order and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Brilliant. This wrecked me. From the stellar narration to the rich characters, The Traitor and this saga deserve all the stars. One of my favorite sagas of this decade. A must listen: London delivers passion, history and tells a sweeping story that has me begging for more.

I loved The Tory, but The Traitor took the story and its characters to a whole new level. The full cast narration pulls you in and never lets you go. Each narrator played their role brilliantly with stand out performances by Tara Langella and Patrick Zeller.

Beyond fantastic Saga with incredible acting.

Like many children of the 80s, my childhood was filled with mini-series sagas that have stood the test of time in our story-loving hearts. “Winds of War” & “The Thornbirds” were two that are etched in my memory due to their character and world building that pulled you in as a watcher, waiting for the next installment each night of the week. I never thought I would find that type of gripping tale in Romance or Historical Fiction again, but I was swept away by The Tory audiobook last year. Leaving me with a happy for now, what happens next feeling that only the next installment could hope to fulfill. Now upon listening to The Traitor with its full cast, I am blown away again by the extravagant detail each of these actors brings to TJ London’s Revolutionary War saga.

Our hero, Captain John Carlisle, is the lynch pin in this entire tale. How his steps to bring justice to all the characters elicits maneuvers by those around him, turning to chaos, leaving the listener on edge to find out what happens next. Each step into another character’s point of view is anchored by returning to Carlisle, brilliantly portrayed by Shane East. From words with lust to rage Mr. East brings the cornerstone character the charisma, swagger, hurt and revenge you find in the pages but leaps to life in his talented hands. You find yourself wanting to return to his point of view not only because our Captain is the main character, but because you know Mr. East will voice the clues Ms. London has laid as breadcrumbs to find our “Happy For Now” ending moment.

As we pivot around Captain John, we dive further into characters we met in The Tory, voiced again by the fantastic talents of Tara Langella as our heroine, Dellis; Maryne Young as the increasingly evil Celeste; and Patrick Zeller as the diabolical Major DeLancie. From the 500+ pages of text and over 18 hours of audio gold my simple words will never be enough to speak to this core team’s impact on the telling of this Saga.

Dellis goes through so much in The Tory’s backstory and we hear it in even more detail as she learns more about her Captain John. Her relationship with him, her cousin Alexei, brother Stuart all become pawns in the chess game where only Major DeLancie seems to be in control of the board. Scenes between Ms. Langella and Mr. Zeller become the pinnacle of voice acting as schemes are laid bare along with the immense pain humans can inflict on each other, especially at times of war, let alone insanity that becomes of a madman. Playing right along with the instability of DeLancie is Celeste with her power-hunger she craves over a man who does not want her, Captain John. Never trust a woman scorned as we learn through Ms. Young’s deeply moving and evil voicing of Celeste.

When four main voices were not enough, Ms. London leveled-up the play bringing in remarkable voices: Nicholas Boulton as Merrick and Major Butler, Dryw McArthur as Alexei and Patrick, and Shayna Small as Agnes. These additional voices did not get lost in the story telling, instead elevated the meaning and believability of all the characters.

My emotions are destroyed at the end of this audio experience. From my heart pounding out of my chest with the action scenes and knife’s edge suspense, to being on my knees in complete sobs over Mr. East’s and Ms. Langella’s moments voicing heartbreaking loss, pain, and love. The Saga that was once exciting words on a page became a true movie in my mind with these amazing actors melding into one amazing cast. I cannot wait for Book 3 to be completed in audio; therefore I will just read and hope the voices of this amazing cast can live in my mind as I move into their characters’ next tales. I already know their performances will be etched in my heart forever.

Additional Note: This is a book centered around a centuries old war and the topics are discussed in detail. From the horrible treatment of the American Indigenous people by both the Colonists and Loyalists, to the lack of medical care for pregnant women and the PTSD brought on by witnessing and partaking in the acts of war. The story weaves each of these topics with respect but very graphic details. I appreciate the notifications that accompanied the eBook and trigger warnings from other readers, as I hope you will, too.

(audiobook+ebook) While Dellis and John’s love story is the catalyst for most of the events, whether this book is a romance is debatable. It’s a historical saga, with the personal stories intertwined with History. Through colorful and unique characters, the author tells a tale of treachery, love and violence.

John and Dellis getting back together takes the whole book, and their journey is full of passion and drama. They have few allies, and way more enemies–the bigger one being their past. We learn more about the circumstances of Dellis’s parents’ death, and it isn’t pretty. In terms of characters, between DeLancie and Celeste, they have more than enough obstacles to fight, already, and Fate seems determined to hinder them at every turn.

All the main characters get their time to shine–the main couple aren’t the only one telling their point of view. It was interesting to get inside the villains’ mind and understand their motivations. I won’t say I felt sorry for them, but they had reasons to act as they did.

In order to have a better understanding of DeLancie, the author wrote flashbacks. Several. The thing is, in audio, there was no indication that we got back in time. And since the characters, and their voices, were the same, it was confusing sometimes.

As the characters multiply, so do the narrators. And it was a good idea. Between the various voices from the narrators, the accents, and of course, the number of narrators added, there was never any confusion as who was talking. And they were all amazingly good. A gripping story with great narrators, I can’t wait for the next book in the saga.

Set in the American Colonies and during the winter of 1777, the war of rebellion is backdrop to the tumultuous story of Captain John Carlyle, an intriguer and British soldier and the deep, yet stormy love with Dellis a tavern-keeper, Oneida, and rebel. After the rush of the earlier book, I thought I knew what to expect and gladly put in my earbuds to be carried off to the colorful, brutal, and sensual past by a talented team of narrators.

Flowing right out of the events of the first book, The Tory, The Traitor carries on a pulse-pounding, gut-wrenching story that doesn’t read well out of order. Historical backdrop has been brought to life with meticulous detail so that the listener experiences this as a full-sensory story. The grittier aspects of the tale did have me wishing for less of an immersion because I did get squeamish, but the plot itself and the characters particularly John and Dellis had me soldiering on.

In truth, this was a longer book, but I couldn’t stop listening once I got started so it went by swiftly and late into the night. Pretty sure I even dreamed about the events in the story. John is one of those characters with precious many flaws, but just as many admirable traits so I find him fascinating, but the villains are impressive- okay, impressively vile. Thankfully, Dellis offsets and her courage, honor, and spirit truly shine.

I’ve not had many experiences with full casts, but I can’t imagine a better way of enjoying this book. : Shane East, Tara Langella, Marnye Young, Patrick Zeller, Shayna Small, Drew MacAurthur, and Nicholas Boulton deliver stellar performances that kept me riveted through this compelling cast of characters and their intense situations.

In summary, I think it is safe to say that I am utterly at the mercy of this series and want to know what comes next and how John will fair with his difficult choice and effect of past decisions. The situation surrounding him is taunt and is building to a crescendo point. Fans of the Revolutionary War period are the best target, but those who enjoy bracing, gritty and sensual historical fiction particularly in audio should definitely reach for this book/series.

My thanks to the author and Caffeinated PR for providing the Audible copy to listen to in exchange for an honest review.

After listening to the audio of The Tory by T.J. London in 2020, The Traitor immediately became one of my most-anticipated listens of 2021. To say that it was worth the wait is an understatement. A great audiobook has to start with an amazing book, so whether you read to listen to this, you are in for a next-level experience. This series from T.J. London has all of the hallmarks of a sweeping epic in any form. As I was listening, I could imagine it holding its own against some of the most memorable mini-series events on TV. She is an absolutely masterful writer, and you can feel her dedication to this series and the era throughout the entire experience.

Set in New York during the Revolutionary War, the reader is immersed not only in the war between the rebels and the redcoats, but we get a dramatization of how the American Indian tribes were used by both side to advance their cause. We experience a British captain questioning his loyalty and which side he’s on, an American Indian woman standing up for herself and her people during a time when women were property and natives were nothing more than pawns, an American Indian man coming into his own and deciding his path forward after years of corruption and thievery by his European father, a British war criminal so hell-bent on revenge on those he thinks have wronged him that he has devolved into the most vile and evil man, a woman who has been so used and abused by men for living that she’s turning the tables on them, and more.

Each of these characters is a puzzle whose final picture is being revealed to us piece-by-piece through a fast-paced, heart-breaking and gut-wrenching plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s consuming, and it was impossible to stop thinking about it each time I had to put the book aside to live in the real world. It’s the kind of story that stays with you, that keeps you thinking, that has you wanting more. And I know that I’m not going to be able to wait for the audio of the next book in the series, The Turncoat. I’m picking that up, and anything else that follows in the future, and reading all of T.J. London’s words as soon I’ve recovered from this listen.

The audio of this book is a stellar example of what voice acting is supposed to be. This is not flat narration or reading; this is true acting to be able to convey the emotions, the turmoil, the upheaval of the story and characters through just your voice. The cast included standout performances by Tara Langella, Patrick Zeller, Shane East and Marnye Young, reprising their roles from The Tory. They are joined by Nicholas Boulton, Dryw McArthur and Shayna Small. Tara Langella’s ability to shift from strong, determined and fierce to vulnerable to joyous gave us a full picture of the heroine of our story, Dellis. Patrick Zeller as Delancie was so deliciously evil, so diabolical, that you want to reach through your headphones and strangle the man yourself. Shane East and Dryw McArthur as John Carlisle and Alexei McKesson respectively make us feel the conflict, the push-and-pull, the conflict of conscience their characters are feeling. Shane East also gives us the vulnerability of a man that wants to be better, who doesn’t think he deserves any happiness or love, who feels that the mistakes of his past have cost him his future. Marnye Young’s Celeste is alternately wicked, diabolical and vulnerable, and is doing what she feels she must to not only survive, but thrive, within the corruption of the era.

As a listener, this experience was a marathon of emotions for me. I loved, I hated, I laughed, I cried, I yelled. I was elated, I was heartbroken, I was angry, I was broken. There are a lot of potential triggers here given the nature of the subject and the time period – sexual assault, war, PTSD, some graphic violence at times. This is not a book for the faint of heart, but it is such a rewarding encounter. I cannot wait to experience the rest of this series. I sincerely hope the later books are put into audio as well because The Tory and The Traitor are two of the best audiobooks I have ever heard, and I’ve heard thousands.

Review copy was received from Publicity team. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Traitor picks up the Rebels and Redcoats Saga right where The Tory ended.  I began reading with a hopeful heart and at first it seemed things would improve for my favored characters.  But again the author is tearing my heart out, and while fulfilling my need for information about who are the liars and traitors and spies, solving the mysteries, my romantic soul is tortured.

John continues to try to improve things and be a better man. He continues to be caught up because of others using him and taking advantage of his past mistakes.  He is rightfully afraid to come clean to Dellis.  But his lack of trust in her is an injustice to her strength. Oddly, he also has more problems by being distracted by his emotions rather than using his head and his skills.  It makes him seem weak.

Dellis is learning everything and has no support from anyone. She continues to be in danger from multiple sources and is not quite aware of those targeting her for their own reasons or to hurt John.  She is a bit willful and overconfident in her choices; her choices are naïve.

One of the problems is, but also the beautiful complexities of the story, there are more than two sides to these battles.  It is not just Redcoats vs. the Rebels.  There are also the natives, and they are also broken into multiple tribes with different beliefs and agendas.  There are also those who are only out for themselves like Roger Delancey and Mrs. Allen, and even Stuart McKesson.  Due to the time period, many of them do not have complete or accurate information to make their decisions.

Oh it's a heartbreaking mess.  I don't see how it will go well.  There are a few lulls in the storm here but problems are waiting in the wings.  I loved this so much I bought it.  It looks like book 3, The Turncoat is already available in a Kindle version.  The audio has my favorite narrator though.

Narration:
I continue to enjoy the narrators from The Tory, including the favorite Shane East.  The audio performances add a rich emotion to the story.   I was able to listen comfortably at 1.5x speed.

The title of this installment to the saga can be interpreted many different ways. It’s up to the reader to find all the parables.

Here’s my breakdown of The Traitor.

Characters: rich and ever growing. London does an amazing job of realistically painting human nature and how it evolves depending on a person’s Journey. Each character, especially her male characters, have defining characteristics and are brought to life in unique ways. All of London’s characters are like this (male and female) but writing the opposite sex and representing them well, can be challenging. There is a substantial amount of characters in this book, yet they all have their own face, voice, and histories. The author makes them easy to follow because each one stands out. They are never just a blur of dialogue.

Every person you read about has a goal, obstacles to that goal, and hefty choices to make. Better yet, all of their goals clash! Making for some crazy thrilling situations.

Setting: This is a book not a movie but the scenery and environment work so well for the story. You can feel the bone chilling cold or the hardened ground. You can taste the Caribbean rum, smell the rawhide, and see the fires lighting hearths.

In writing historical fiction, the same sort of world building that fantasy writers do is involved. This book world builds, making the 18th century come alive on every page. The politics, the social circus, the speech...

Plot: Whoa, you mean 10 plots flawlessly interwoven and executed??? There has to be more than a handful of subplots floating around to keep the reader from encountering a dull moment and not one of them leads to a hole or dead end. Everything that happens has purpose and every scene is vital to the overall story.

Top four characters:

John, Dellis, Delancie, and Celeste.

John’s growth since book one is intriguing to read about and done at a realistic pace. His devotion to his king is beginning to conflict with his devotion to his morals and his woman. His inner struggle is incredible and throughout the story he is being pressed to pick a side, put under immense pressure to choose. It feels like there is an enormous clock ticking over his head and on the last stroke, his decision will make or break the rest of his life.

Dellis’ growth takes a larger leap in this installment. Who she is in the first chapter differs greatly from the person she becomes by the last. There’s a point made in this book, that Dellis is twice removed from the outcome of this war. She is both native and a woman, and the outcome of the battles fought, don’t apply to her either way, yet she’s caught up in the current of fate, her future tied to the war for completely different reasons. What a change of pace to see a female lead not always getting rescued in time, and being forced to rely on her own strength and resilience. Dellis embodies the struggles most women in this era endured. A time before therapists and understanding friends. A time when you either let the horrors of your life break you or shouldered them and grew stronger under the weight of them.

Delancie... oh that sick, sadistic, MF. Delancie scared the life out of me in book one upon his first or second scene in the book. From then on, he remained a new phobia in the plot that pops up at the worst possible times and inflicts the most damage. As an antagonist he has his purpose to ruin our beloved protagonists but he is also the “protagonist” in his own story. Meaning there are levels to who Delancie is, mentally impaired or not. He was created in some ways, born evil in others. He drives the plot forward constantly and his intelligence is his greatest weapon. Everything he does has a motive and though he isn’t the only villain, he’s the alpha villain so far.

Celeste is the player I think many readers will underestimate in the beginning. But as the saying goes, hell hath no fury like a scorned woman. Her role in the lives of the other three main players, is undeniably disastrous and she’s far from done. She’s a woman of the times, making the best of her situation and never missing an opportunity to look out for number one. She might be terrible but she’s fantastic. What I mean is, she’s written with so much thought! Do not overlook her, she is cunning and out for blood.

The book is a five-star read because it has all the elements. Intrigue, romance, gore, lust, madness, prejudice, rebellion, love, and mystery.

From the cover to the formatting to the content. There are not enough historical reads set in this period with this amount of depth. It’s an untapped market and this saga is pioneering the front! I’m rooting for Dellis and John, but it’s all on the line and time is running out.

REVIEW

Well now, that was certainly an exciting read. There's a song by the band Nightwish that includes the lyrics 'weaving my wings with many colored yarns'. That sort of describes The Traitor as the author has woven a web of intrigue with many different strands; so many ways in which the story could go; so many times I had to pause and admire the creativity and chops to keep it all together; so many times I wanted to punch out a few of the characters (that, by the way, is a good thing - it means the author has me involved). 😊 An emotionally taut tale replete with strong characters (of varied temperaments and agendas), and a incisive look at the historical aspect of the story. The eventual breakup of the Iroquois Confederacy was fueled by the impossible choices the natives had before them as the British and the Colonists raced towards war. The author does a fine job in bringing that to light amid the turmoil and confusion; the heartbreak and loss; the truth and redemption. I am certainly looking forward to book 3, The Turncoat. 5 Stars

I listened to The Tory last year and was waiting for this audiobook to become available. The Rebels and Redcoats Saga is definitely a series that has grabbed my attention. This is a story set during the American Revolution, in New York. We are right in the middle of the war between the rebels and the redcoats, with all that entails. The biggest part of this story is how the Native American tribes were used and treated by both sides to win this war. but we get a dramatization of how the American Indian tribes were used by both side to advance their cause. There are scenes for brutality and rape so be prepared for that. It is important to read The Tory before this book as they follow along with each other.

The characters in this story are very well-developed and varied. There is a British captain questioning which side he should be on, a Native American woman standing up for herself and her people during a time when women were property, her native relatives who were used and mistreated, a half Native American man who has to decide which side he is on, a British war criminal who is out for revenge for perceived wrongs who has become extremely evil, and a woman who has been used and abused by men for a living that she’s now out for whatever she can get and is not afraid to hurt anyone to get it. This is a fast-paced, heart-breaking and gut-wrenching story that had me on the edge of my seat. It is one of those books that had me caring about the characters and thinking about them every time I had to stop listening to do something else. This story has spying, back-stabbing, revenge, craziness, corruption, some romance, family loyalty, war, tragedy and more. War is not pretty, and the treatment of the Native Americans was horrible and tragic.

The performances in the audiobook were fantastic. A story like this being performed by a full cast of characters is one of the reasons I began to listen to audiobooks. The expression, emotion and voices for the characters held me captive. It pulled me right into this story and had me feeling the emotions of the characters as well as being in their heads as they were figuring out their next move. I can not say enough about this audiobook. If you enjoy Historical Fiction, especially American History, as well as a saga about a period of time, then pick up this series. I was provided a copy of this audiobook through a promotional event. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

The Traitor
Rebels & Redcoats #2
TJ London

The Traitor, book 2 in TJ London’s Rebels and Redcoats saga is all about secrets, lies and consequences.
Captain John Carlisle of his Majesty’s Army has fallen in love and is trying to keep his love the beautiful Oneida Innkeeper Dellis McKesson safe while he tries to clear his name about his involvement in the massacre at her village two years earlier that resulted in the death of her parents and a brutal attack she survived that was carried out on the orders of his then superior officer Major Roger Delancey. But to do that he’ll have to confess his many sins which he’s not proud of but he also knows that keeping her in the dark will be their downfall.
Dellis is tired of all the posturing by the men in her life and wishes all her relationships could be easy but that’s certainly not the case with her Redcoat. She just wishes he’d come clean with whatever he’s hiding because she’s got a secret to tell him too.
As the world around them continue to crumble and the obstacles between them grow they both know that their love is precious but can it weather the storm that’s coming?
This not for the faint of heart as it contains some pretty graphic and violent content, non-stop action and a rather raw narrative but since it fits TJ London’s storyline like a glove and it’s not there for shock value it actually gives the story an added element of honesty. The audience will find themselves entranced by the period perfect costumes and customs, a smokin hot romance and credible characters that will stay with the listener long after the book is over. And as in book one it’s John and Dellis who rule the pages with their passion, their pain and their resilience.
Fans of Outlander and other realistic historical fiction of the like will love this series that is meant to be read in order.

Narration:
The narration by Shane East and Tara Langella who portray John and Dellis are incredible they emit just the right amount of emotion in every word but they’re not alone and the performances of Marnye Young, Patrick Zeller, Shayna Small and Nicholas Boulton are also exceptional making the audio version the way to go.

While John was off trying to complete his mission, Dellis has taken off to find him. Finding herself with child, she feels she must at least tell him. He promised to come back but something inside her doubts the truth in his statement.

John took flight to try and save her from the wrath of his long time enemy Major DeLancie, who blames John for his sorry state in life, and the loss of his commission.

DeLancie murdered Lily, Dellis' mother out of jealousy, he also murdered her father in a duel where he cowardly shot the man in the back. He has been working both sides of the war, manipulating everyone and making deals with everyone. He is also financing Celeste in her most recent venture, to get as much information on John Carlisle, the rebels, and the redcoats as she can give.

Now for my opinions. This story is one that will grip you by the balls and twist. Many times I wished to actually be there to stop John and Dellis both from making rash and stupid decisions. For 2 smart people they make some really dumb moves. That however is what makes a good story, a book should bring great emotion or otherwise it's dull and unenlightening. I can say that it is a page turner, I was never bored and hated having to put it down to do my daily business. I have read the first 2 books in The Rebels and Redcoats Saga, and am dying to pick up the next. This is not just a good book, it's a series of great books and has my full attention. There is back stabbing an betrayal at every corner, so tread lightly, you are in for a shockingly good time.

All opinions are solely my own and have no ill intent towards the author, publisher, or promoters of this book, now on to The Turncoat book 3 in the series,

The Traitor picks up right where the Tory ended. This is a continuing series and must be read in order. Oh man this audiobook is a step up from the Tory as its duet and even more multi cast characters are introduced. A lot of povs in this story as there's more than one story being told.

John it trying to turn things around from his past, but is still being used by others. I really feel for Dellis, that poor woman and the things she went through. When John and Dellis getting past a grievance experienced together and finding their way to understand each other was beautiful.

Celeste, I so dislike her but can only wonder what the future hold for her and will she be redeemable.

Onto Man of War next!

The cast and the emotions they evoked are out of this world. They all did an excellent job. Fans of audiobooks will be pleased with this performance.

I did a hybrid of listening and reading for the second installation of the Rebels and Redcoats Saga.
I highly recommend, the narration brings these characters to life!
John and Dellis are back, though separated for most of this book, each uncovering secrets that set this book's plot in motion.
Delancy, truly an evil protagonist is this series is just vile and all the things one would suspect of a terrible man during the revolutionary conflict. I hate him, and what a great author for creating such a sinister character!
These books must be read in order, the next being on the top of my TBR. This is very slow burning series, so be prepared to hunker down and enjoy all the character development.

OBSESSED. Book 1 was really good, & this one was even better in every way. We get all the amazing scheming from The Tory but like x10. I haven’t read something this intense in a while, edge of my seat the entire time. The dynamic between John & Dellis is to die for! Dellis is a headstrong, stubborn character & I just love her. John is dreamy. Seriously, this series is a must.

TJ did it again with The Traitor. She takes you on a wild ride with everything the characters go through in this epic story. My heart broke, I got mad, my heart got built back up again, I was frightened, mad, sad, EVERYTHING!
You're for sure missing out on an amazing story if you do not creck out this series.
The audiobook performances enhance the already amazing story. Every single narrator is on point.

*Audiobook Review*

One of my favourite historical fiction series is John Jake´s North and South. I can’t remember how many times I watched this over the years, and I am also a big fan of Diana Gabaldon´s Outlander Saga, so for me, the Rebel and Redcoat Saga by TJ London is right up there.

The Traitor, which is book two of the Rebel & Redcoat Saga took me on a very intense journey and gave me one hell of a book hangover. So many feelings were going through me at the same time. I felt every character´s emotions laid bare, be it rage, anger, love, despair, and every wrongdoing which drained me of all emotions.

The story continues right where it left off in the Tory. Dellis finding out who her Captain John really is and going after him to confront him about his deceit. When they meet again not everything is happy to go merry and they must overcome a lot of hardships, challenges and evil in the likes of Roger DeLancie, Dellis´s Rebel Cousin Alexei and Celeste who are not going to make it easy for John & Dellis to reunite before they find their trust and love for each other again.

Dellis McKesson is my hero in this story, her strength, her spirit, her fierceness, her fight is admirable through all the hardships she has experienced so far. Equally heart-breaking are John´s struggles, him trying to justify his decisions and the pain he´s caused. It was emotional to see what John is going through as well, fighting for what is right and the woman he loves. It broke me to see them both in this emotional and physical turmoil, although both show that love is powerful no matter what. Tara Langella´s performance of Dellis and Shane East´s performance of Captain John Carlise is incredible. They captured those moments of love, despair, frustration, physical & emotional pain perfectly.

Roger DeLancie is an evil mastermind and delusional although he seemed to be capable of love once upon a time. The message here for me is that rejection and a broken heart can turn into pain and anger and for some people, the outlet is hatred and cruelty. Patrick Zeller´s portrayal of a diabolical Roger DeLancie is terrifyingly good as his performance truly gave me shivers. Patrick is also voicing Dellis tormented brother Stuart.

Celeste oh she is a deviously wicked one. Hate is such a strong word, but I really felt like slapping her at times. She knows how to weave the web of lies and deceive and have it play out in her favour. Marnye Young did a truly marvellous job of bringing this evil lady to life.

Adding to The Traitor cast are the talented voices of Drew McArthur as Alexei McKesson and Patrick Armstrong, Nicholas Boulton as Merrick and Captain Butler, and Shayna Small as Agnes, Celest´s assistant. They all really did an incredible job bringing The Traitor to life.

Even if historical revolution is not your genre, you should give this Saga a chance as it is truly incredible. TJ London´s writing, the powerful storyline, the intense research and love of history, the emotions and hardships, the character development, the decisions, fates, and horrors of war, be it emotional or physical, all of this had me on the edge of my seat as there are so many different stories that intertwine, slippery slopes and twist and turns which also lead to some parts that are difficult to get through. It felt like I was watching these written and spoken words play out on screen. Chapeau Lady London.

These incredible written words by TJ London underlined by the magnificent audio performance of an exceptionally talented audio cast have to be epic and 100% one of my top favourites in 2021.

I was totally captivated by The Traitor by T.J. London. After finishing The Tory, I wondered how will the author top that. Well, T.J.London did!! Romance, intrigue, revenge, retribution. And a passionate romance that persevered through it all. T.J. London wrote scenes of passion were so ardent that I turned down the volume lest my neighbors heard. This is the kind of story that contains the WOW factor. Gripping from the beginning as the story unfolded about a romance set during a time of war between a feisty, willful tavern owner and a roguish Captain of the British army. He’s a spy acting as a merchant and privately wishing for forgiveness from a heinous war-time crime from years before, and she is trying to keep peace among her native family and to keep them out of the war, not realizing how connected their lives really are. It’s the kind of story that at the end of a chapter I let out a long breath that I didn’t realize I was holding and I was swiping away tears I didn’t realize I shed. And the kind of story that when I realized I was in the final chapter I thought “Wow, when did that happen!” As for the narrators, their focus on bringing out a true depiction of the characters was so intense that when their characters reacted, so did I. They kept the story moving so smoothly that time stood still as I listened. Shane East is a master actor of his craft. His voice is as mesmerizing as the story. Tara Langella is also incomparable as she played her part with perfection and with all the right emotions needed. Marnye Young, Patrick Zeller, Dryw McArthur, Shayna Small, and Nicholas Boulton gave unforgettable and flawless performances. They made their characters so real and parts all flowed so naturally. I hope to hear more from them all. This is a historical romance that also gives an accurate account of some historical happenings during that time period. I know that when I see this book advertised on social media, I will want to jump right in to say that I read/listened to it and its great, unforgettable, and I loved it! It may take me days before I can get my head out of this story to be able to read something else. I look forward to more from T.J. London!

The Traitor
The Rebels and Redcoats Saga, Book 2
By: T.J. London
Narrated by: Shane East, Tara Langella, Marnye Young, Patrick Zeller, Shayna Small, Nicholas Boulton

I don't even know where to begin to tell you how much I love this book. I love The Tory, and was so excited when this was completed and in my ears. But it turned out to be even more than I can expect! Stories within stories, interwoven so not only are we captivated with the characters, but entranced with the intricate way each story builds and grows. Our main characters, Dellis, John, Delancie, and Celeste keep us on our toes. I loved each one as their own journey progressed with such exciting plots. Every emotion is felt! Heartbreak, loss, grief, hate, love, jealousy...this book encompasses it all and finishes with an ending that left me happy and satisfied! London is an amazing talent and her Rebels and Redcoats Saga has quickly become one of my favorite listens of all time.

Now the cast of this epic story. Tara Langella continues her incredible performance as Dellis. Such a complex character, and Langella just understands her. Each scene incredibly gripping and made me love Dellis's strength and love. Shane East as John Carlisle. Enough said. This character has so many sides to him, and East keeps us on track knowing exactly where his loyalty lies with his nuances. Marnye Young as Celeste, proves just how talented she is, creating this jealous, social climber. We love to hate her and Young makes her realistic and relatable. Patrick Zeller as Delanice keeps us intrigued with this hatelful man. I love his voice, bringing the inflections that at times waiver our feelings, but then put us right back on track. This book has the addition of Nicolas Boulton and Shayna Small who are fantastic. Their voices fill in our cast and create scenes that are like movies in our mind.

I had the incredible pleasure of experiencing this story in audiobook format, narrated by an exceptional cast, including Shane East, Tara Langella, Marnye Young, Patrick Zeller, Shayna Small, and Nicholas Boulton. Their performances elevated this historical saga to extraordinary heights, adding depth and emotion to the characters and the gripping storyline.

Shane East brought Captain John Carlisle to life with his charismatic voice, brilliantly capturing the character's complexities. Tara Langella's portrayal of Dellis McKesson was captivating, showcasing Dellis's strength and determination. Marnye Young and Patrick Zeller portrayed the villains, Celeste and Major DeLancie, with such intensity that I found myself both repelled and fascinated by their characters. Shayna Small and Nicholas Boulton added depth to the supporting characters, making each distinct and memorable.

The entire cast narration was a game-changer, immersing me entirely in the world of the American Revolutionary War. The seamless transition between voices and characters made the story come alive, creating a cinematic experience in my mind. The narrator's ability to convey the characters' emotions, from passion to heartbreak, added layers to the narrative, making it impossible to stop listening.

This story became more than just an audiobook; it was an immersive journey through history, filled with intrigue, love, and betrayal, all thanks to the incredible performances of this talented cast. If you're looking for an audiobook that tells a compelling story and delivers a masterclass in narration, this story is an absolute must-listen.

Audiobook Review:

I have to start out stating that the narration for this book was spectacular. There were many times I could envision what was going on in the story and it almost felt like I was watching a play and not listening to the audiobook. Full Cast audio is such an amazing experience.

We get to continue in the saga of John Carlisle and his new love Dellis McKesson while having to deal with the ever present and evil Celeste and DeLancie, who both live to make the captain and his love's life absolutely miserable. There were many times you thing that Celeste is the one pulling the puppet strings but then DeLancie proves to be pulling many strings himself. We learn more about Alexei, Dellis's cousin as he becomes a more prominent character. Dellis has many moments where she has no idea who she should put her trust in and there were a few times my heart just hurt and broke for her.

There is so much that goes on in this 18 hour audiobook that I just want everyone to experience. And that is definitely what this book is...a complete experience. Through T.J. London's outstanding writing, you are taken back to 1777 and live through everything these characters do. I truly couldn't ask for more from this book. Except for maybe a certain someone to get what's coming to them. Which hopefully will happen in the next installment.

This review doesn't do this book the justice it deserves but trust me, it's truly outstanding.

JENNY & EDSON'S AUDIO REVIEW:

OVERALL: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
PERFORMANCE: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
STORY: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I received an ALC of this book from Caffeinated PR as part of an Audio Blitz Tour.

Wow what a tangle of an adventure this story was. So many sad moments and yet some amazing moments too. And that ending was sexy and comical!!!

The characters were AH-MAZING!! We so enjoyed following John and Dellis through their arduous adventure!! We felt all the feelers within this story and felt so bad about everything that happened to both John and Dellis.

The story-line was addicting and very well written!! There were so many hard and painful things that happened during this story that it literally tore our hearts out and made us so very sad for the characters.

The narrators were excellent. They brought the story to life and made us feel every scene within the story. We left as if we were a part of the story. They painted a very vivid picture within our minds as we listened. It was like watching a movie while listening. This is a wonderful story and we highly recommend it!!!

It’s been a little while since I have listened to a historical saga but the Traitor has complete captivated me. It is the continuation of Dellis and John’s story which started in The Tory, the book preceding The Traitor. At the end of the Tory, John leaves Dellis’ Inn in order to protect her; but fate has different plans, as we find in the Traitor. In this book, we find out more about John’s unfortunate past with Delancey and Celeste Allen. It also tells us a lot about Dellis’ family history, her courage, and her drive to do the right thing.

I was honored to be given an advanced listener copy of this book and as good as the performances were in the already-award-winning The Tory, I felt like the cast even got better in The Traitor. The raw emotion from the original cast of Shane East, Tara Langella, Marnye Young and Patrick Zeller was so moving; and the additional cast of characters narrated by Dryw McArthur, Shayna Small and Nicholas Boulton absolutely complemented the core characters.

T H E • T R A I T O R, by the masterful Revolutionary Author TJ London, will draw you in from the very first page, right through to the very last, transporting you to a world where family ties, friendships and loyalties are tested to their fullest extents; to an era where one’s honour is worth life itself; to a place where deceit and betrayal are rampant and rife.

Book 2 in the Rebels and Redcoats Saga follows Captain John Carlisle’s quest for justice, redemption and love, but what cost will Karma ask of him?

Dellis McKesson continues to reveal her inner strength and stoic resilience in the face of danger, fear and heartbreaking loss.

A huge HURRAH! goes out to the audiobook’s stellar, full-cast narration team, for their phenomenal, award-worthy performances, expertly breathing life into each character and every scene.

Trigger Warning: This book is not for the faint-hearted. It contains descriptive graphic violence and sexual assault.

I was disappointed in Book 2 of this series, especially after having been absorbed so wholly in the first one. THE TRAITOR felt drawn out and repetitive; it could have easily had about a quarter of it pared down. I don't mind rape and violence if it fits with story - but this is just unending at times. I mean, we get it. Nevertheless, Book 3 is at the ready - and after committing to close to 1000 pages thus far, I am going to see it out to the end. Although, honestly, I feel like I could use a little break from all this, as it doesn't always feel like "escapist fare" anymore.

Book 1: 4+ stars
Book 2: First half, 3.5ish stars; last qtr, a skimmable 2.5ish - for a total of 3ish stars

This is the second book in The Rebels and Redcoats Saga, an outstanding Historical Romance. John and Dellis’s adventures continue where the first book left off. There is a lot going on in this installment. The storyline is intricate, and enthralling, filled with intrigue, danger, and twists and turns. The supporting characters are great and intriguing. The full cast of narrators did an outstanding job with the narration (Shane East, Tara Langella, Patrick Zeller, Marnye Young, Dryw McAuthur, Shayna Small and Nicholas Boulton). The audio quality is impressive. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and this Series. Looking forward to listen to The Turncoat, the next installment in this amazing Saga. #CaffeinatedPR #TheAudioFlow

Carrying on from where we left off in book one, The Tory, we are quickly drawn back into John and Dellis' life as more intrigue, double crossing and adventure ensues.
T.J. London's beautifully descriptive writing doesn't fail to pull you back into this second installment, with accurate historical details, twists and turns, and new enemies emerging.
Can John and Dellis and their wonderful friends, who all come alive in this vivid series, find their happy ever after... only time will tell.
I absolutely loved this second part and cannot wait to go on to the next one, each book is grippingly addictive!

This one took me a while to get through, not because it wasn’t really good but because I started it at a time that I had lost my luster for reading. That being said, it was really good! Set in a time when you really just can’t trust your neighbor. But, we’re all still human. Lots of intrigue lots of duplicity. Really bad bad guys and questionable good guys. Danger and spice and a really strong female lead.

This story will tug at your heart. You can feel Dellis’ love and heartache. Yet this heroine never gives up, she fights til the end. The characters are so rich and well rounded this book, this series, will suck you in and you will not be able to put it down until you’re done. Then you’ll start over and go back for more.

A powerful book about war, love, and lots of deception. So much damage has been done. Can time or positive actions ever make anything right again? Follow Dellis and John's story through the maze of deception and see if anything can ever make life right again. I was drawn into the journey and loved every second of it. Just powerful!
