A postulant monk. A mysterious nun. A secret that can unite them or tear them apart forever.
Handsome and dark Gregor Carmichael, son of a laird, has decided to become a monk after being dispirited by his unstable love life. While he is travelling through the Highlands toward his monastic shelter with Father Columba, an itinerant priest, memories of his past love life and new temptations keep making him question his decision.
When they visit a monastery, fate tests him by throwing an enigmatic nun at his path. She clearly doesn't belong there. She is young, stunning and lively. She looks like she is running away from something, just like he is.
A well-kept secret is unveiled, that will shake the very foundations of the life they knew. Friends and foes will try to pull them back to the reality they thought they escaped from or, even worse, pull them apart.

Historical Adult Romance, Ancient Scotland Gregor🐺 thought he wanted to be a monk when he was mesmerized by Columba, an older, devout and charismatic monk he met. But he still feels he would be missing out on something. He realizes he would miss out on love and holding a woman. He dreams of a woman with long red hair and blue eyes....... Tall, rugged, and handsome, Gregor🐺 is a good looking guy. He's too handsome with too much testosterone to be a monk, that's for sure. He goes over to the Isle of Skye to see the bishop. Stopping at a convent, he meets Iona💃💋, another novice.
Iona💃💋 has fled her home because her father had sold her to a hugely fat and old, gouty, baron. Her father needed money, Iona💃💋 is a beautiful young woman, and so the deal was done. Iona💃💋 has other ideas and flees to the convent with her maid, where no one can touch her. When she and Gregor🐺 start talking, she realizes she doesn't want to become a nun, and Gregor🐺 doesn't want to be a monk! They flee from Skye, followed by the Baron.......who is determined to get his prize back.
ARC Received from Author.
The book spans across much of Scotland as the young lovers flee to safety from The relentless baron, and realize he and Iona's father committed a heinous crime . Loved the book and loved the story!
Another story that might have been better if it wasn't full of editing gaffes--if there was editing at all. I knew it was going to be a rough ride when it started into weird hyphenated words (no-one) and words with no spaces between then (she would send her "horseback" to convince them she'd fallen and died somewhere).
It did not get better as I read.
Never have I seen so many people bail on a religious vocation in one place. The religion played an obnoxiously big role, especially at first. I get the feeling joining up is like when poor, ill-educated people nowadays join the military because what else can they do? A vocation of desperation more than a calling.
I was really looking forward to this story, it was a great idea. Unfortunately the writing was terrible, there was no detail on the people or their thoughts. I tried reading as long as I could but it was so boring.
Gregor Carmichael thinks he wants to be a monk. He meets Iona at a convent. They know each other for just a few hours, share a kiss, and bam! They're in love. He has to keep on with pilgrimage with Father Columba and vows he will be back in a few days to see her again.
Iona is on the run from her cruel father and a baron who has purchased her hand in marriage. She and her friend, Andrina, concoct a plan to escape to the convent, but neither of them has any intention of becoming a nun. This makes the title of the book disingenuous.
This book was all over the place. I didn't see a real plot. It jumped around from scene to scene without any indications that it was coming and some of them seemed to not having any bearing on the story whatsoever. The characters were flat and I didn't care about them. The only character I found to be even remotely interesting was William. He came out of nowhere and pushed the story forward. I also found the dialect of the characters who weren't "elite" was hard to follow.
I'm not sure why the book ended as it did. I liked Lorraine and Graham, but why did it end with them rather than Gregor and Iona, the two the story was supposed to be based on?
I think the best part of this book is the cover. It's a beautiful cover and I was taken in by it. I read the blurb and was intrigued. But the relationship with Gregor and Iona was never in real peril as the blurb suggested. In addition to that, Gregor wasn't running away from anything. He was more like trying to find himself.
I had high hopes of an interesting and entertaining read. Sadly, this one fell short.
On a personal note, I find it irritating that the authors want their readers to download extended endings or short stories at the end of their books. If you want us to read it, give it to us in the book. Otherwise, it seems that you're just trying to build an email list to send us your newsletter or to spam us. Not cool.
Another well written Highland romance by Alisa Adam's. Her books always have well written characters that include some from her prior books. This was truly unique and well written. I hope she continues with William's story in one of her next books and I like the good prevailing over evil in this book. Always love happy endings.
I really tried to like this book. I have enjoyed most of this author's books. But this One seemed disjointed, rushed and the ending was left with... Nothing. The wording seemed awkward and didn't flow so it was a challenge to get through it. Hopefully the next one will be better
Nice range of realistic characters, situations, friendships, family dynamics, and romantic relationships. The various characters' stations in life are clearly reflected by their manners of speaking and vocabulary. The humorous touches throughout are enjoyable. Satisfying happy endings result.
I loved this story. Wish there was more to it. Lots of details and lots of characters too. In our time period it's called karma. In their time period it's called come upends. Thank you so much for your wonderful writings Alisa ❤
This was truly a wonderful story with so many twist and turns in it and happy ending. It was everything I love in these Highlander stories. I highly recommend them
This book was so great I was sad to see it end. None of Alisa Adam's book can ever be a single read and she never disappoints! I can't wait for more by this author.
Nice twist for a Highland romance. Are they running away from something or running to something? Read this unusual love story. You'll find love, evil, redemption and forgiveness. Enjoy
The characters are very sweet, loyal & innocent. The villains are totally evil. The story is very sweet & only slightly erotic ( In a most innocent way). Nice for older teens & nearly chaste adults.
Some books are like a warm blanket and a return home. Alisa's books are like that. They have everything that you would want in a book and more. I would definitely recommend all her books to anyone interested in a fantastic journey. I received this ARC free in exchange for an honest review
So so story with many inconsistencies in plot and dialogue. Add in misspelled words and flat character development and you have an average story at best.
This is a new author and series for me. It seems as if I have started in the midst of the series. There is a large cast of characters who have already found their mates as well as an entertaining, intelligent wandering priest.
It was a great story. It was sad at parts, then happy again. Very realistic with people having problems physical and personal and those being solved or handled as needed Dyanne
This was a pretty good book. It was not an erotic book which made me keep reading. I had a little trouble with some of the reading because it was written to achieve the Scottish dialect but it helped in some cases. I liked the way she ended the story about the baton and father.
What a brilliant story! I loved Gregor before and wondered what would happen to him. It was also good to meet up with previous characters. This story has lots of different layers that are intricately woven together. It has tragedy and loss as well as love and passion. A real gem.
One of the most wholesome and entertaining books l have read in a long time ,just the right amount of family, action and love combining to make a most enjoyable read. Look forward to reading more of Alisa Adams books.
This Highland book was so very interesting! There were separate stories about all of the characters, who were intricately linked in many ways, and integral characters in the story. Very interesting novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
A little slow didn't capture my attention quickly so it took me a couple months to read it. I like a little humor and a strong male and female presence.
I have read several books by this author & I have not once been disappointed. This book was a good read if you like this type of love story you must add this book.
