I don't often read a book in a day. This one though? What a blast to read! It mixed erotica, romance, fantasy and the paranormal into a very funny woman's story. Sadie is a 46-year-old divorced, single mom who writes erotica and romance novels to pay the bills. Then one day, some of her characters come to life.

There were a few lines in the book that most middle-aged women could relate to and hopefully laugh at. Like, "No one fantasizes about being a slightly overweight, middle-aged, divorced mother desperately in need of an eyebrow wax and some sort of Pilates intervention." (p.9)

Or, "No, I'm not okay. I have not been okay for years. I'm forty-six and alone, except I'm never alone. I'm in charge of everything and I don't want to be. I'm tired. My body feels old, and it sags in places I wish it wouldn't." (p.208)

Sound familiar? Or maybe feel familiar?

This was my kind of fluff. Some good sex, a bit of romance, a bit of humor and a smidge of reality. Just enough to make the book feel true but also like I was escaping my own reality.

A fantastic read.

As soon as I delved into the first few pages of Ms. Maxwell's Happily Ever After, I felt I knew heroine Sadie, an author of romance novels. I loved that she was not the average nubile young thing. She's in her 40's, has seen life, has loved and has lost. With a wicked sense of humor and flair for the everyday indignities of being a woman, the author embarks on an original adventure. The book seems at first to be a contemporary romance, but quickly veers into paranormal territory. A mysterious man lands in Sadie's life, one who strangely resembles her current hero...of an unpublished manuscript. As she helps the man in his quest to find out where he is, and who he is, Sadie begins to realize strange forces are at work, ones which have implications in her own life as well. We have humor, sweet romance and magic, all elements of a fun book. Although Sadie writes steamy books, the love scenes here are more on the sweet side. I thought this was a unique story, and I would definitely read more by this author.

The blurb for this book held a lot of promise, it sounded fascinating and perhaps a little bit different. I have to say though that as I read, I didn't feel any more real connection. It could have been just up my alley of reading, but for me it just didn't sparkle.

There is an author - Sadie, who also writes under a pseudonym, and she is middle-aged, flabby and not quite together as a person. Into her life comes Jason, who at first is a convenient once a week meet for sex appointment. He does develop into something more and saves this story a little. He supports and helps lift Sadie from her meandering about in middle age angst.

The characters from a couple of Sadie's stories come to life and cause chaos for awhile. In dealing with the characters' difficulties Sadie somehow comes to a resolution in her own life.

At times as I read I wasn't sure if this was a satire on the romance novel or a tale told with irony. Maybe not. Whatever, it didn't work for me.

While it didn't ring the right bells for me, it still may be your kind of book.

Molto carino.

Come è possibile?

L’opera unisce diversi generi letterari: romanzo rosa, umoristico e paranormale.

Did I enjoy this book: I really did. I read every free chance I had and read most of it in one day.

At first, I was concerned. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book. It started a bit slow for me. Then around page 70, I was hooked. I couldn’t put this book down. I had to see if Sadie got her happily ever after.

Happily Ever After was such a fun read. It was very funny. There were quite a few times that I laughed out loud. Well . . . I wanted to laugh out loud, but I was reading it during a class/seminar (I told you I couldn’t put it down) and I didn’t want to actually laugh out loud. I had to cover my mouth to keep from laughing too loudly. My shoulders were shaking. I was smiling. And believe me, Internet Law (my seminar topic) isn’t that interesting. I never would have thought that a story about an erotica author would be so funny. But it really was. I loved it.

Sadie is your average work-at-home mom. I loved that she was a size 14, that she had “needs” that she arranged to be taken care of, that she had struggles and insecurities. She was relatable–despite the whole erotic author thing. When her leading male came to life, I was completely invested in this story. I wasn’t expecting it. It was a wonderful twist on paranormal/supernatural/magical without being overly cheesy or predictable. I adored the love interest. (I’m not going to give away this information. I don’t want to ruin the story.) His confession gave me a giddy smile and had me almost squee-ing out loud during my seminar. (I know, I should have been paying attention to the class but the book was just way too entertaining.)

I want to tell you all the details, but I don’t want to spoil it. So many great moments. So many laughs. Wonderful romance. I will probably read this again in the near future.

Would I recommend it: Absolutely. If you like chick lit, romance, a little non-vampire paranormal/magical, and a good laugh, then pick up this book.

(I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

Sadie Fuller is a divorcée that spends most of her time cooped up in her office writing her latest romance novel under the name of K.T. Briggs. She has a young daughter, a reliable maid, and an ex-husband who left her for another man. She isn't dating anyone, unless you count her regular "appointment" with Jason on Fridays, which is more of a sort of agreement a.k.a. booty call. So, her life is pretty bland, that is, until she's in Target and comes across a man who seems to be straight out of her novel. He's suffering from amnesia, so she agrees to help him, but as he gains part of his memory back, she finds out his name is Aidan Hathaway, which is the same name as man in her novel! Things start to get strange when she realizes characters from her novel are entering her life, one by one. Elizabeth Maxwell's debut, Happily Ever After, is pure escapist fun that combines a variety of genres, including romance and fantasy.

This book was a fun read for me. A good friend of mine recommended it and I'm so glad that I found the time to read it. Not only could I relate, being a single mom, but it was super funny! There were also a few twists that I wasn't expecting, which kept the story interesting for me. It was just one of those solid, good from start to finish reads and it actually left me wanting more of their story and more of one of the supporting characters! If you're looking for a romance with humor, grab this one!

Super fun once it got going, which for me was about 40 pages in. At first I thought it was going to just keep switching back and forth, but the plot developed unexpectedly, which is part of what I liked about this. Plus, the main character was totally relatable, being that I'm also older than 45 and have a secret writing career (on kinky/sexy topics) as well as a tween. Anyway this is lighthearted and a nice escape after a long day at a desk.

I didn't give it five stars because I reserve that for books that are more "serious" literature, but this is tops in the beach-reading category.

I loved the description of this one, about a middle aged single mother that has a couple tires around her middle, writes erotic romance novels for a living under a pseudonym, and actually gets to meet a man that resembles one of her characters! Sadie could be any one of us! I thought the book was a cute and fast read, not too predictable, with the right amount of humor and magic thrown in.

I would have given it maybe 2/5 stars but I gave "Everything, everything" that much and I liked this one less.
It's a mess of a book in my opinion. It's a romance but also has some fairytale elements but everything is so superficial and just throw in there. The characters have little to no personality, no depth. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular from this book and I knew it would be an easy read (a friend gifted this to me, we have completely different taste when it comes to books and movies) and that's why I started it, it was my first book after a long period of time without reading and for that (breaking the bookish-ice) is good. Other than that, don't waste your time.

(Sorry, I don't want to be mean, it's just that I really didn't like this one!)

This was a hoot! A plump, divorced-because-her-husband-turned-out-to-be-gay, middle-aged mother pays her bills, and very well, by writing erotic fiction. One morning, a plot twist appears on her manuscript--and she didn't write it! The next thing you know, her latest fictional sexy hero is stumbling around her local Target, searching for his lady love. Now our heroine must find a way to get him back to his fictional world before he meets his doom at the hands of another rogue character. This funny, touching, fast-moving story will delight romance fiction fans and, most especially, romance writers.

The biggest thing I liked about this book is that the plot was completely unexpected. After reading the back of the book, I was expecting your average love story where a middle-aged lonely woman falls in love, but certainly not the fantasy storyline that I was greeted with. The book started off pretty slow for me, but it did pick up. There were a few twists that I certainly was not expecting, but there was also a good amount of predictable parts. This book really does have a happy ending, which is a nice change from the sad endings that I typically read. It was very well written; I look forward to reading more of Elizabeth Maxwell's work.

This was one of those wild hair books I picked up. I actually really enjoyed the book once I got going. It was a cute easy read that even though it's about an erotic fiction writer is not full sex scenes. There was only one thing that really bothered me and that was in the Target scene. She mentions music playing and discounts being played over the load speakers. Target does not do this. If it was a store I have never been in or only visited a handful of times I might not have notice. However, being a suburban mom I have enough to Target runs under my belt that it really took me out of the moment.

Like a 3.75, not quite a 4. Definitely a very different plot than what I have ever read in a romance before. Lots of layers to unpack. Truly likable heroine, the "real" one... I giggled. I laughed. I even cried at the end. But the ending was too quick for me. Granted, the blessing of it being only 300 pages was a quick read in a couple hours after work tonight. Start to finish held my interest with no down time.

This book wasn't really what I expected, but it was enjoyable nonetheless! It's a meta-author-world book, and not the first I've read--I enjoy the digs at the industry, at readers, and at the writing process.

The way she wrote of multiple genres, I suspected Elizabeth Maxwell must've been a pen name for an author who also writes in other genres, but I couldn't find anything, unfortunately!

A 2.75.

I wanted something easy to grab during my busy time of year and this delivered. I liked the unusual twist and thought it was just entertaining enough to pick up at the end of the day. Nothing super addictive but loved the honesty of the main character’s over 40 perspective. It was refreshing.

This is a cute, laugh out loud, let me escape life for 24 hours book. I bought this book back in 2014 it’s moved with me from Florida to WI. I enjoyed it, laughed so hard at times I cried - total work of fiction. If you have it on your shelf or can pick it up via the library - read it but not sure I would tell you to run out and buy it. Cute, silly story that I couldn’t put down.

I should have followed the author's advice. On page 254, she has Sadie thinking "I have no time to waste on books I don't like." But I did finish this book because by then I had invested too much time already. I guess I should have paid attention to the genres that are listed for this book. Paranormal, fantasy, magic...not my thing.

I feel like I have a love hate relationship with this story.
At first some of the witty comments made me laugh and I somehow could relate, but after a few chapters of them I started to feel like Sadie was a downer… but I’m giving it 4stars because of the twists and turns I wasn’t expecting and enjoyed.

This book started out slow (more or less a slow burn) but once it picked up it was really good! I did end up with a messed up book where it was made missing pages 87-118 and had pages 119-150 twice so I was quite confused at first! I DID keep reading on and was able to keep up and it made sense. Very good book over all!

A super fun premise that didn't really pan out. The story was more preoccupied with figuring out why this romance novel hero dropped into the author's life and how to get him back into the book, which frankly I didn't really care about.
