When not penning the next novel, J.E. Feldman focuses on mentoring authors and raising money for charity. The literature world is merely one facet of her life. Feldman haunts car shows, anime conventions, medieval fairs, and whatever else catches her attention.
She enjoys road trips ripe with history, crocheting blankets for the homeless, and can be found reading in cramped bookstores.
The review refers only to Down the Wishing Well by Hui Lang. This is a retelling of an African-American Alice in Alabama 1956. It is a beautifully written story, a a very well plotted retelling of Alice in Wonderland, and as it was expected from the time period in which the story occurs, it is heart-breakingly sad and gut-wrenchingly infuriating, because it is so brutally honest, and painfully accurate and realistic. I will not go into the storyline, but I will mention that it is not difficult to imagine all the possible horror scenarios that have nothing to do with the fairytale retold. The author's writing style is absolutely amazing, impeccable, consistent, realistic, and truth revealing. No matter what is the topic of his stories, the author never glosses over the painful realism of the matter, but bravely unmasks the truth and presents it to the reader, whether they like it or not. The author became my favourite after only several pages of his very first story and he continues to amaze me with his unparalleled writing skill, and the ability to tackle some of the most difficult topics that transcend time periods and geographic locations.
Down the Wishing Well- An Alice in Wonderland update ❤️
I am more in love with this story now then I was as a child!
This has held a special place in my heart for a long time and I am so happy it has added a new generation.
I will not be spoiling in any way shape or form, but if you love being different, or witnessing kindness and courage, right overcome wrong, love seeing the inner strength come out, and need to have a happy ending... well this... this is your new love!!
Is it a little touchy for some... maybe Is it unique, intelligent and very well thought out... HELL YES! I’d love more 💖💖
Various stories centered around Alice in Wonderland. They include things dealing with:
An extremely prejudiced sheriff and a Christian fanatic, a snake and an apple, a talking tree, a queen that has lost all her color, The Queen of Spades and the jabberwok, a vorpal blade that talks to the person holding it, a hot springs and the Mad Hatters store along with various other things. It's different than the general run of Alice-related books and it's pretty good.
Hei Lang is a master! Once you start you can't put the story down. The world he created hits your emotions and doesn't let go! Be prepared to enjoyably lose yourself.
