Tricked: A Halloween Love Story
After the death of Halo’s parents, she uproots and moves to the city of Nashville. Starting over for her is the only thing on her mind to escape her pain. Halo steps out on a whim and moves into an old renovated home that she purchased online. Just because you tear something down and rebuild doesn’t mean you take away all that was hidden there, to begin with. The day of her move in Halo meets Hallen Tricks and he offers a helping hand as a neighborly gesture. Hallen has a bad boy past and is well known in the city but due to his sudden interest in Halo, he keeps things under wraps. As Halo gets settled strange things start to happen around the house. Halo confides in her neighbors and discovers her home was a scene of a brutal murder. Halo starts to dig for information on her home and what she uncovers leaves her speechless. Have you ever loved so deeply it changed you? Have you ever loved so deeply it tricked you? Have you ever loved so deeply it even made you delusional? Halo goes on a wild ride with Tricks and show him the true definition of ride or die.

You know what….I really enjoyed this. I enjoyed it more than I expected especially when there were scenes that made me emotional. CW: alcoholism, violence, loss of loved ones, grief.
I randomly came across this book on KU and it didn’t disappoint. It follows main character Halo who purchase a house in Tennessee after the loss of her parents. Right as she moves in she meets her supposed neighbor, Tricks, who she immediately connects with on a emotional and mental level. Everything seems to be going well until Halo notices strange things happening around the house. As she continues to get to know Tricks, Halo quickly learns that his background may be more complicated than she anticipated.
What I Enjoyed: The storytelling in this was great! I was really fond of both Tricks and Halo and their connection. Both are dealing with some heavy feelings related to loss and grief and they somehow work through it together. Because this is a shorter book, it’s hard to describe the elements of the book without spoiling it. There’s a twist to this that makes the book enjoyable and also adds a nice emotional touch. I wasn’t necessarily surprised by it, but I do think that the author did a good job executing it. One of the major themes that I appreciated was the idea that regardless of the pain that we experience from loss, we have to keep pushing and live the life that we have left. That doesn’t mean that we forget about those that we’ve lost or we refuse to acknowledge our pain, but we recognize that it’s okay to move on and forward. It was hard, but necessary lesson that Halo had to learn to heal herself.
What Didn’t Work: There were a few grammatical errors in this one that interrupted the flow of the story, but I’m more lenient with independent authors as I know that their access to editors is different than those that are traditionally published.

I went into this read expecting the unexpected, and you delivered! I figured out pretty quickly what was up with Tricks, and my heart went out to Halo, for being on the losing end again! 💔 But sis came through like a boss, took care of business, and helped Tricks find the peace he sought. Different type of read for me, however, I enjoyed it.

This was okay. In the authors note she made this sound like series was going to be really crazy. Like I quote the author said “ after this read you might need to check into a mental facility.“ and I feel like that was such a huge exaggeration because the plot was not that dark or not that crazy. It was interesting but I probably would not recommend this to any of my friends

THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING NOBODY PUT LOVE AND HALLOWEEN TOGETHER BUT THIS AUTHOR DID AND KNOCKED IT OUT THE PARK I WAS SHOCKED TRICK WAS A GHOST BUT IT WAS NEAT HOW HIM AND HALO HELPED EACH OTHER HEAL AND MOVED ON TO HAPPINESS.. JUST RUN WITH IT

I ain’t think I would would like this story that much but I really did. Halo meeting Tricks was a blessing in disguise. I kinda went through a few emotions because Tricks was a good guy that didn’t deserve what happened to him. Especially from people he actually cared about. Treana and Rossi got what they deserved with they hating asses. I really hate what happened to him. I loved the plot twist of this tho. Halo deserved to be happy and thanks to Tricks he did that. Jumping into part 2 next.

This give a whole new meaning to boo loving. I love it though. Treana and Rossi is the reason I don’t trust people now. Fake asses was living off his hard work after he took care of both of them. I love how he got the closer for halo with her parents- as well as filled what would’ve been a bold in her life with his son. Over all this was a great read I give it two thumbs up or should I say five stars

Tricked
You had my mind spinning frfr! Tricks & Halo were something else. The fact that she was self harming herself with the thing that took away her most loved thing from her is wowing! She needed him just as well as he needed her. She allowed him to get justice & he allowed her to fix her problem! Thanks to higher powers. For her to get Hallen jr at the end was heartwarming to me! I’m ready for Kali!!!!

I loved how everything came together I loved how tricks was able to get his peace and how halo was able to help him and then being able to love him. And the time travel back to help her understand what happened to her parents!! And to love his son and have a family. And the end was the bomb. Com

This was good from so many angles... Not your usual everyday read.
Halo and Tricks needed each other and the outcome was right on time. Rossi and Tranae met their fitting fate!
Tricks showed up and showed out in more ways than one. Have been seeing this author's growth and can't wait to see what she delivers next!!

Amazing
I loved this story from beginning to end it was truly amazing and in actually it felt real... I could foresee the storyline as being attached to realism in so many ways and it was well written has me believing in the impossible too... Definitely another great read from a dope author

Wait a minute this story was everything I wanted in a Halloween story , Hallen was set up and robbed and murdered by two people he cared for the most he thought he had they loyalty but they had none until Halo moved in his home 25 years later and helped him avenge his death, He was able to connect with his son and give Halo a baby girl!!

I actually liked this story. This was the perfect book to kick off Halloween. At one point I thought Halo was losing her mind. And she low key probably did when she fell in love lol. I almost hated to see her and Tricks journey end but I’m definitely excited to see where her and Hallen go. Good job.

Interestingly different
Cause that was definitely a little different than what I'm used to reading but I definitely did like it. I had the ghost peg in chapter 2, And I like the twist of the sun ending up with Halo I did see it coming though... But I really did enjoy the story, Simple short and sweet.

I’m NoT Crying You Are
This was a wonderful read! 10 stars across the board because I’m in tears from the raw love that was displayed in this book. The connection between the characters,The plot, the twist, and the reality of it all. I truly loved Tricks and Halo and how you added Halley into the mix but it wasn’t weird. Amazing story!

Tricks was giving my girl Halo a scare at first, but they fell for each other eventually. Halo was struggling with the loss of her parents, and she needed someone to be in her corner and Tricks was just the perfect person. This was such a good Halloween read, and I'm glad that Tricks was able to get his revenge. I absolutely loved the ending.

Halo moved to a new location after a tragedy. There she meets Tricks and feels an instant connection. Shortly after she starts experiencing supernatural behavior in the home. “Ease up baby, before you kill my ass again.” 😂 There’s a plot twist for the behavior in the end. I would definitely reread this!

I actually really enjoyed this Halloween story. It moved very fast, but that was expected since it was more of a novella.

This is my type of romance!!! Halo and Hallen are quite literally the perfect couple! Tricks was more phenomenal in "essence" than life!!! I'm so glad Tricks showed Halo the truth about her parents so that she could avoid making a grave mistake in her own life. Loving this story from page one, do yourself a favor and read this!!!! Heading to book #2!

This was an okay read for her first Halloween book. The facts that tricks was a ghost wasn't suprising bc of how the book was promoted in the beginning. I did expect a little mor3 from the Author, but it was good as far as been sort of a romance story

Short and Sweet
I really liked this story. Tricks was a spirit trapped until Halo came along and freed him. He knew Halo was going to need someone when he left and gave her his son. Im glad Treana and Rossi got taken care of.
