"Look at you, trying to be all diplomatic. Come on, let's get this over with so we can save the world again. Honestly, it's getting old now."

So, we’re back with Andrea ‘Anxiety’ of Ata and Cassie ‘The Sass Master’. They have new responsibilities, they must face their pasts, they must fight for their future but their relationship grows stronger and stronger. And they are stronger with it.

Please, don’t look at how long it took me to finish this. I’ve been having some mental health issues when I started it and had that not been the case it would have taken me max 3 days. This is really fast paced and action packed story.

Of course, there are softer, calmer, and tender moments woven into it as well but we’re being swept from one corner of Damea into another. We watch as one crisis after another messes up everyone's lives. We follow the rise of the country, the politics, the new challenges and enemies. But also, the familial bonds, the romance, the love, the friendship, the forgiveness and betrayal.

I LOVED the 1st book but woah this one is really top shelf. The game changes rapidly. Everything we knew about Damea is just a drop in the ocean. And everything we knew about magic is even less than that.

Also, I'm joining Elisa/Ithmeera team because damn just how much UST can you pack into two women with a difficult history between them who have to learn how to trust each other again but who never stopped caring for each other?

~~~~~~
So, it really took one man to make this whole mess in the first place, huh?
Finally was able to get my review written for this. Read. This. Book. If you thought the first one was good, read this. If you were on the fence about the first one, read this anyway - it's a fantastic sequel and I can't wait for the third book.
5/5. If I could give it higher I would since I liked it better than the first book. So it's been a year since I read Enchanters and to be honest I didn't know what to expect from the sequel. Spoilers inbound!
I loved Enchanters and this sequel is even better. It's more focused and character driven, and the author has definitely improved as a writer with the practice. The pacing is great, the world is believable, and the characters are likable and real.
Phew... the twists and turns. Bloody brilliant. I've been looking online to see when the third book is available but haven't found any updates as yet. This book flowed a lot quicker than the first one, but it was still just as good. I'm looking forward to the third book.
This review is long overdue but I finally got around to reading the book.
This book was read as part of the Sapphic Book Club hosted by @sapphicbookclub.
While I liked Enchanters, I think the story and the writing flowed much nicer in this book. The story itself was much more fast paced than the first one and took way more twists and turns than I could have imagined (in the best way possible)! I really enjoyed the further exploration of the relationships between the different regions and the characters. Definitely looking forward to the last installment of this trilogy! 💜
This book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars from me! The continuation of one of my favorite fantasy books delivers many exciting things! So many twist and turns that I did not expect, and it definitely left me super curious about what will happen next! That said, I will try to keep this review mostly spoiler free (for the 1st book as well). You can also read my review for Enchanters.
We see all of our favorite characters in this sequel as well, dealing with the aftermath of their adventure to save magic in the world. A lot of emotional things needed to be processed, as well as personal and political relations among many people. The world is changing rapidly, change is not always welcomed by everyone and it's hard to keep up so naturally that leads to certain rebellions and different type of tension. We get to see all those struggles on the smaller and bigger scale.
If you enjoyed Cassie and Andrea, you will get a lot more content between them as their relationship progresses. It was also fun to see them adapting to their new jobs (?) and positions in the world. The focus was primarily on them but we did get to see Elisa and Kye's development too (and they're still my favorite characters and dynamic!). There was also a lot more new information about the history of Damea and how some of our beloved characters fit into that. Court politics included, I was glad to see more of Ithmeera as well. It is fairly known that since the first book I've been an Elisa/Ithmeera shipper (sue me, I like complicated relationships) so I was happy with any bits of interactions we got from them. Though it seems like Surge will bring more of those and I am ready!
Speaking of Surge, what a cliffhanger! Maybe not in the literal sense, but those last 50 pages had so many plot twists that changed how I viewed the entire story so far! I'm super excited to see what's coming next! As always my wishes are for more Elisa and Kye's dynamic, and for me to ship my crackships (and hope maybe they become canon heh).
One thing I wasn't quite fond of though, the characters seemed to bicker too much amongst themselves. Often starting arguments as a joke too but escalating, then quickly resolving in apologies from both sides without any residual anger or resentment. Maybe it's just that the characters are young (but then again the youngest among them surprisingly wasn't like that) but it was something that bothered me a little. They seem to be unable to start conversations and bring up serious subjects without angering the other person first them coming clear about their intentions only after hurting them and covering it with an apology.
Overall, it's still a book I highly recommend if you want a fantasy that flows nicely and isn't too complicated, but still has an interesting world and characters. It's very underrated and you won't regret getting into it!
ps. Kat, I'm so sorry this took me so long to post. But hey, happy Valentine's Day <3
Conduit, the second book in the Enchanters Trilogy, is a well-written, fast-paced sequel to Enchanters, and brings a great blend of action, mystery, and intrigue to the series. Also, it features MORE gay, a lot of emotional baggage, and lovely romantic scenes between a really compelling couple of useless lesbians.
I enjoyed Enchanters (please see my review!) but somehow even in a shorter number of pages I managed to get even more invested in another great fantasy story and the characters in it.
So, Andrea and Cassie are living in the palace in Gurdinfield where Andrea is the Royal Enchanter, Diana is the Queen of Gurdinfield and married to Jacob, Kye is still adorable and working on his career as a bard, and magic has been successfully released back into Damea after the events in Rhyad. Cassie has enlisted with the Guardians and is kind of a badass, but with a bit of dumb jock energy going on, which I love. She and her pals Victor and Roe break Elisa out of a Legion prison and soon the whole gang is back together in Gurdinfield.
Diana is not super happy about this recent turn of events, as it comes to light that Ithmeera, the empress of the Azgadaran Empire, wants to have a meeting in Azgadar to discuss an alliance. Since the last thing we saw of Azgadar was them trying to invade Gurdinfield, it is understandable that Diana is a little hesitant to play diplomat with Ithmeera.
Conduit is a very successful sequel in my opinion as it answers a lot of the questions I had in the first book while also setting up some great things for the last book, which is coming out in a few days as I write this. Andrea and Cassie's relationship deepens quite a bit and I love every moment between them. We get to see Andrea reunite with her parents that she hasn't seen in four years and Cassie, who was quite standoffish in the first book, is super supportive and I was pleasantly surprised to see that she's actually a really loving girlfriend to Andrea, who is still kind of a hot mess. Both of them have really grown up from the last book and it really shows in the small and intimate moments they have together throughout the story.
We also get to see Kye confront his past a bit and Elisa is very much a pillar of support for him, even if she is reluctant to admit it.
Speaking of Elisa...so as we discovered in Book 1 (minor spoiler) she is Ithmeera's sister in law as well as her former bodyguard and best friend. The two have a TON of baggage and they spend a good chunk of this book highlighting that. The chemistry between them is pretty charged and I found myself conflicted when the book would change perspectives because I didn't know who I wanted to read about more: Andrea or Elisa.
The world building was just as strong. We get to see more of Damea, such as where Andrea grew up, and the story itself departs from the classic fantasy quest that Enchanters was and focuses more on the inner conflicts of the characters as well as the crazy but believable amount of emotional baggage everyone in this story seems to have.
It is difficult to point out everything I loved about Conduit without giving away the major spoilers. I will say that the way it ends is impressive and heartbreaking at the same time and ultimately sets the stage for what promises to be a really epic showdown in book 3...at least I hope so anyway.
I eagerly look forward to Book 3, Surge, and will be back to post a review on that once I read it.
Minor spoilers to follow: One of the reasons I adore trilogies is that you get to see an evolution of plot, characters, and often the author themselves. The first book establishes setting, stakes, and the players giving the second book a chance to really delve into the complexities. All of this is true about the second book in the Enchanters trilogy and, while I spoke highly of the initial installment, my enjoyment of it paled in comparison to the experience of reading Conduit.
Less time is devoted to a major quest narrative, although the crisis hinted at in the book's summary is no less present. It merely takes a backseat to what I consider the heart of any excellent story: character interactions. There's a maturity to how the main players interact in Conduit that illustrates the growth they've undergone after the events of Enchanters - one that realistically reflects each's struggle with internal motivations and outward expectations. Given the complications in Cassie and Andrea's relationship which persisted right up to the end of book 1, I found myself both relieved and impressed by how each handled themselves as well as their relationship. You could tell that, despite their inherent natures and reservations, they cared deeply for each other and were trying to be better partners.
Another way Conduit delves deeper into the framework of its heroines is through the exploration of their families and their feelings towards them. There are some major revelations in the book, bringing enormous conflict but also fulfilling resolutions. Some of my favourite scenes are those that involve Andrea reuniting with her parents and I cannot speak highly enough of the talent K. F. Bradshaw displays handling these intense emotional moments. The book is paced excellently and the present of less 'actiony' scenes doesn't negatively impact the story's flow. In fact, I'd say their presence vastly enhances those events since I found myself far more invested - literally holding my breath because I was so engrossed and concerned with how conflicts would unfold.
The ending is Devastating. Brilliant, and extremely well executed - throwing you into a whirlwind of intense feelings and a desperate desire to see what happens next. Considering the way Enchanters has expanded upon the fascinating backdrop and intriguing characters of its world I am waiting most impatiently for the promised final installment. Given the trajectory of what I've seen so far, I have zero doubt that it will achieve even greater heights than this one.
Another exciting adventure!
Cassie and Andrea are living in the City of Towers, and as Royal Enchanter Andrea is busy as ever, however they must journey to a neighbouring empire to help them come to terms with the return of magic and hopefully lay to rest any outstanding feuds between their respectful cities. But Andrea has much to face and deal with in finding out the consequences of having returned magic to the land. With Cassie to protect her and love her, together they try to work through all that stands in their way, but soon find there is much more to having returned magic to Damea than they imagined.
This was brilliant adventure for Cassie and Andrea, giving them time to develop further as characters and build on that relationship established in the first book of the trilogy. It would be advisable to read the first book in the series before heading off on this adventure as it will give you a greater perspective, but K.F. Bradshaw has detailed enough backstory in the second book to give you an idea if you haven’t. I loved how adventurous this was though, a journey and on a new personal level for both Cassie and Andrea because there is more at stake between them this time.
I also adored the plot twists and turns in this addition to the trilogy. I couldn’t have predicted them, and until it all started to weave together I wouldn’t have had a clue that this was the direction this adventure would take them on. I was excited to go on this journey, learning more about the risks and consequences of the returned magic, and this instalment has only added to my excitement for the third book!!! I think there is a lot more in store for Cassie and Andrea and I can’t wait to find out what it all is.
A very intriguing mystery adventure, perfect YA fantasy, that I would highly recommend.
Following the success of their epic quest to return magic to Damea, Conduit sees the bonds of our found family of misfits grow ever tighter as they face greater peril. For even though the magic has been restored to the land, it is still unstable, and the cause of its loss remains unknown.
Conduit reunites us with the eclectic cast of characters we met in Enchanters with some taking on more, and others less prominent roles. The bonds of friendship between the core group have grown much deeper after the trials they have faced and are brilliantly depicted through caring gestures and playful gibes. It was heartwarming to watch the familial interactions between them all.
There is also a greater focus on the romantic relationship between Andrea and Cassie in this book. I loved watching it grow much deeper and become a little more sensual. Bradshaw really captures the combination of timidness and desire new couples experience in the beginning of a relationship. The nervousness they both experience surrounding the meeting of the parents was adorable while the passion they felt when alone together was palpable
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but Conduit has me completely hooked. The pacing is more intense, the plot more complex and there are more interesting twists to keep you engaged.
Overall I liked this sequel to Enchanters, which I read some time ago. The evolution of Cassie's and Andrea's relationship was nice to see, and their ups and downs were relatable as well. Also, on re-reading Conduit, I couldn't help but get a definite "vibe" between Elisa and Ithmeera and I hope the author explores this possibility. :-)
There is a major narrative twist near the end that rearranges what you thought you knew about the nature of the Starving in Damea, and the villainy of the character involved is so profound it leaves you in disbelief staring at the page the first time you see it.
One almost wishes Cassie would get her warrior girl game on and do some asskicking, but that looks like it will have to wait until Surge, which I am eagerly looking forward to! :)
(I got this book along with the first for free when the author was kind enough to give some away at the beginning of COVID. )
FIVE STARS.
This book completely blew the first one away in every regard. I ADORED Andrea and Cassie in this and especially loved how lovestruck Andrea makes Cassie throughout their relationship here. It's really cute and also very realistic, especially when they meet Andrea's parents.
There is also a relationship THING happening between Ithmeera and Elisa and if the author goes where I think they're going I'm going to be so happy.
There is a brilliant twist that I won't comment more on but it basically made my jaw drop and I won't lie, I got teary-eyed at the end and now I'm sitting here going crazy waiting for the third book to come out.
Before I rave about how much I love this series I have to warn all y'all that this, unlike #1 is NOT A STANDALONE BOOK. It is also not a traditional #2 like "The Two Towers". So bear in mind you will have to pay for another volume but you were probably going to anyways as the series is just so g.d. good,
Andrea and Cassie make one of the best couples I have read for a long while. Their romance is believable also the dynamic between Elisa and Ithmeera really works well. Diana and especially Kye are a bit wooden and Jacob and the rest of the supporting cast are really makeweights. but this is irrelevant if you likes #1 (like me) you will love this one and probably went straight to Amazon after reading the last word of this one.
Great book, great series - read it!
An excellent follow-up to Enchanters. As several reviewers have mentioned this book had a better and more focused flow than the first one. The story was more tightly focused on Cassie and Andrea, which gave them more time to grow and to explore their relationship, which I really liked. There was also more world building and a twist I did not see coming.
I am excited for the last book. I would highly suggest reading the first book, Enchanters, first. I would recommend this for fans of the first book.
This book was provided to me free of charge in exchange for a review, however my thoughts are my own.
I really, really enjoyed Conduit. I jumped right in after reading Enchanters, so I was already emotionally invested in the characters and loved hearing about the unexpected results of reintroducing magic to Damea. Perhaps because I was already familiar with the existing relationships, this book just flew by. I just could not put it down!
Conduit introduces a different size of Elisa and really explores what makes Ithmeera the way she is. I never expected to get as interested in that relationship as I have- it's definitely something I'd like to see explored in the next book. As always, I love Andrea and Cassie's relationship, and it was wonderful to see how they've grown after events at the end of Enchanters.
It also answers a lot of questions about Andrea and Cassie that I developed while reading Enchanters, like where Cassie is from and what Andrea's parents are still doing. While I still thing Enchanters could read as a stand-alone book because the main plot is completed at the end of the novel, when combined with Conduit it's a much stronger story.
Enchanters did a good job of setting up the world of Damea, but Conduit really makes that world feel alive. Overall, I think Enchanters is a good book, but Conduit is a great book.
This book takes off a bit after the second and while you thought things were dealt with, here you really see people find explore their path (new occupations and roles) and find out more about how things happened and the isekai element of the first book gets explained more and becomes important. If you thought the first book's quest to free magic meant that all main issues were dealt with, this one proves you wrong and showcases an interesting cast of characters dealing with the changing situation, rejection or reconciliation with parents, politics, new jobs, learning and political intrigue.
Just like in the first book Enchanters, Conduit throws you into the magical world of Damea once again with descriptive and immersive story paired with deep and intricate characters. This fantastic sequel is filled with twists and turns, keeping the reader on their toes never allowing them to completely trust anyone. Andrea and Cassie are the two star crossed lovers that they were always meant to be, and the book is written so eloquently that their relationship feels entirely natural and wholesome. It's a must read for any age group from any demographic and I highly recommend it. I can't wait to see what Bradshaw comes up with for the conclusion of this trilogy but I'm sure it will be stunning.
