Partnership is the New Leadership is about exactly what it sounds like. This book is about partnering with others.
This theme is one I am seeing pop-up in other books. The legendary John Maxwell explains the law of connection. Dale Carnegie breaks down how to win friends and influence people. The Go Giver talks about giving to others. But no other book that I’ve read made partnership the center – and has done it so well.
Even though I may see it everywhere, many other may not. They still have the idea in their heads that if they want to do it right they have to do it themselves. Or they believe the sole reason they aren’t achieving the success they dream of is because they haven’t worked hard enough yet.
The true way to success is by helping others and time leveraging to all win.
For individuals who see people as obstacles or headaches – this is a must read. Those who truly understand that most people quit not because of the job but because of the management – this is a must read. And for people who want to create buy in with their peers – this is a must read. It is a very thin book; it is only 120 (powerful) pages. You can get through it quick and extract lots of value.
My favorite favorite favorite line of all time in any book (okay, an exaggeration, but only by a little) is on page 74. The author was speaking at a high school leadership event and afterward he was approached by a girl who wanted his advice. She wanted to boycott the pledge of allegiance. His answer was, “I’m not going to tell you what to believe or how to feel, but I do believe our world would be a better place if we started promoting what we love rather than bashing what we hate.”
*mic drop*
I had to put down the book for a bit and stifle a very loud “hallelujah!”
This was such a small section of the book, definitely not the main focus at all, but so very powerful. Now you can only image how the rest of the book’s content is.
Last Words:
Ty Bennett lives and breathes virtue. Highly recommend this leadership book.
Like the mindset and the holistic process as working in team it should be a collaborative process and we should include each individual member and make it feel valued.
Some key takeaways; •True leadership is about earning influence—not inheriting or demanding it. Pg 12
•Empathy isn’t weakness—it’s leadership. Understand your people to lead them well.
•People Do Business With People They Know, Like, Trust & Value. If there was ever a recipe for leadership
•real leadership requires understanding our people, assessing the situation, and removing the obstacles Pg 84
It was hard to empathize in the beginning since I didn't consider myself to be a "leader". The book is written in 2016 and talks about a new way of leadership. The book explains how leadership role has changed and how one should behave and do according to the change of time. In each chapter, Ty shows the difference between old and new leadership roles. Quite an eye opener.
This book in a very simple way explains the best way to build your business . Why alone business , it is a way one can conduct oneself in one's life . Simple to read but not so easy to imbibe . Should one succeed in taking in part or more of what is between the pages One can truly become a good Leader and a Good Human being more so
Wonderful book! I was nervous about my new job as a manager. Once reading this book in one night, I felt empowered and ready to become one with my team and learn alongside them. This book outlines many ways and concepts to implement as a leader that opens the door to cultivate good relationships with your team. Highly recommend!
I didn't love this book. I wanted something a bit meatier I guess. The concept seemed good but it left me unconvinced and nothing really stuck with me or made a strong impression. It was easy to read though.
this book describes everything that no longer works with traditional leadership from the 20th century. I both was validated in my concerns with management styles that I have endured and challenged in my tendencies to reproduce similar techniques as I seek to mentor and lead others in the present and future. Definitely worth a read and a book to keep close by if you are leading others.
lead people in a group rather than a group of people.
Brilliant book giving lots of vital information whilst keeping it concise and relevant. It's definitely a staple book for those who are in management positions. It challenges the traditional view of leaders and explains why partnerships is the best way forward to increasing creativity, commitment and productivity.
