Curl up with these small town cozy mysteries filled with humor, fun and the quirkiest characters around!
End of the Lane (Book 1) Abby Maguire’s first day in a new town and new job could be her last. Instead of writing about the weekend bake sale, she has to give a statement to the police. It seems the small town of Eden is not the idyllic place she'd imagined it to be. There's a killer on the lose but the finger of suspicion is pointed at Abby.
Be Still My Heart (Book 2) Abby Maguire is in a rut and in desperate need of a scoop, not another dead body, but that’s what she gets.
After witnessing an altercation between two Eden Thespian rivals, Abby Maguire, the town’s new reporter, hopes the annual Eden picnic fundraiser will be the perfect venue for her to witness some fireworks. Everyone has turned up, and everyone is dressed in 1920s costumes, including the dead body she finds.
The Last Ride (Book 3) A carousel. A body. An inheritance. Eden’s local café owner, Joyce Breeland, has issued Abby Maguire an ultimatum - the small-town newspaper reporter must find the identity of the Eden Bloggess or be banned from Joyce’s café. Functioning on limited coffee rations, Abby Maguire goes in search of this elusive blogger only to stumble upon a body and a mysterious inheritance. There’s a killer on the loose and he might be working his way through a list…
A Dear Abby Cozy Mystery Collection by Sonia Parin was a very enjoyable cozy read. Ms. Parin is a "new to me" author but I was hooked on this series from the first book. Eden has some of the most quirky characters that I've ever met in a cozy mystery series. The mysteries are quickly paced and I never guessed who "done it" until the reveals.
I really loved this omnibus of books 1-3 in the Dear Abby series. Abby is trying to change her life after some serious setbacks. Losing her job in Seattle and her boyfriend, she takes a job in Australia. Unfortunately, her first day there she discovers her new boss's dead body!
Filled with unique characters and exceptional writing, the Dear Abby series is definitely a series to love!
Great rounded characters, a good sense of community comes across in these three stories. A good mystery without the need for graphic violence feels like something you would watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon
Getting involved in more than her job description called for
Abby Maguire's new newspaper job takes her half way around the world from Seattle, Washington to Eden in Australia. Along the way she pick up a lost mutt that she names Doyle who becomes her sounding board. On her first day in town she finds the body of her new boss who has been murdered. Getting involved in proving her innocents and helping to find the murderer she meets many of the town's character residents. Helping to solve the one case leads her to two more murders that she gets involved in helping to solve. Enjoyable often funny incidents and residents makes for good clean reading pleasure.
Acquired Kindle edition when offered free on Amazon.
Two stars lost right off the top because of block paragraphs. I'm sorry, folks, if they're fine with you; they aren't fine with me. Whether it's because the author doesn't know what a book is supposed to look like or she's going for extra pages, I don't care. Some people take off stars for swearing or graphic sex scenes or whatever. I take off for block paragraphs.
I just looked at a best-selling author's brand new national and international best-selling novel. The Kindle edition does not have block paragraphs.
Does this mean I would have otherwise given this book five stars? Or four? Or three? No, it does not.
Newcomer to author Sonia Parin and will continue to follow her books. What a breath of fresh air to have a mix of great likeable characters, mysterious plots, and fun friendships without offensive language or other unnecessary elements. This was a great collection of stories that are worth the read. Thank you, Ms. Parin, for writing fun mysteries that keep you thinking until the end without worrying about skipping over unsavory parts...I'm hooked!
“Well, if anything’s been happening in town, you’ll have to read about it in the Eden Gazette.”
Hugely enjoyable and funny. Engaging, endearing and quirky characters with a good plot. Set in small-town Australia. I laughed at every moment in each book. I look forward to the next book
I received a complimentary electronic copy of this journalistic mystery series, a Dear Abby Cozy Mystery Collection including Books 1 - 3: End of the Lane, Be Still My Heart, and The Last Ride from BookAdrenaline and the author, Sonia Parin. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I will read this series of my own volition, and my review will reflect my honest opinion of this work.
Abby the news paper author seems to attract crime. She handles it well with the people she met in the new town she moved to. The characters in the series are delightful. Couldn't put it down. Excellent read.
Abby gave up everything and moved across the globe for a fresh start. Her new start started out with her new boss being murdered. Can this lifestyle writer solve this mystery or will this new life style be too much for her?
Thank you for these three thrilling murder mysteries. I found Abby's involvement in the different cases exciting and had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed "Doyle" in all the stories. I look forward to reading more of your work.
After moving half way around the world Abby finds she keeps finding bodies. The dead kind. But she helps the local police solve the murders along with her girl possee.
Each book stands alone, but combined they present a likely, ongoing scenario of Abby's experiences. The cozy mystery genre is for me ... mystery and murder without guts and gory details.
Love this series, Abby has totally taken over the town of Eden..with her little dog Doyle she has put plenty of excitement into the townfolks lives. Great read!
Such a fun series and a great way to read several stories since this collection contains books #1 - #3 with lots of eccentric characters, an engaging MC and a cute doggie amidst the cozy mysteries.
These books were brilliant, I loved the small town and the characters that loved there, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories.
Everything about this series so far is completely and totally average. There are much better entries in the genre. But this week I just wanted something to read, and it fit the bill.
Another favorite new cozy mystery series. Set in Australia, somewhere I have always wanted to go and if I'm being honest, wish I had Abby's guts to move half way around the world when she decides she needs a change.
In the first book, she arrives in town, goes to check in at the paper and finds out that her new boss is at home so heads over there next. When she arrives, she finds him in a chair dead with a warm cup of tea. She calls the police and before you know it, finds herself investigating the death. Not her forte but with the help of her new friend and office assistant, her new dog, found on the side of the road on her way into town that faithful day, and with the support of the deceased's grandson, she finds that if she wants to have a job and remain in her new town, she'll need to step out of her comfort zone and give Sebastian a reason to keep the paper open.
The next 2 books continue with Abby stumbling onto bodies as part of her job as the town's reporter. So what if she isn't that kind of reporter, you know the one. She's already solved one murder, so with the help of her friends and loyal pet, what's a lifestyle reporter supposed to do but to don that hat again and help solve the next two.
I really enjoyed these. The last book is especially hilarious as Abby not only has to contend with murderers, but also her mother, safe in Iowa, wishing her daughter was there too. The funny thing is that before Abby arrived, her little town had never had a murder take place and now they are up to 3.
