I like mysteries. I like magic. I loved this book. Murder, magic, cult life, currents of good and evil throughout and a thoroughly unpredictable plot add up to a book you cannot put down. This is a slight departure from the Livskraft style Martin broke into the world of fantasy with. Here we have an old style mystery in what can only be described as a magical setting. Orphan girl is whisked away from her drab existence to a magical, dangerous and sometimes wonderful place. Martin's plotting skills assert themselves from the beginning with surprising twists from the beginning. If you think thinks happened quickly in Livskraft, the pace of this book can only be called breakneck. She and coauthor Addy McMillan have crafted an engaging and satisfying book. Read it and like me you will be anxious for more from these two.

Do you want to live here forever?
🦄🦄🦄
Claire, an orphan living in Everton has never seen a lot of the outside world after her parents died.
She has spent most of her life surrounded by the four walls of the orphanage.
Her only escape? For some time now she has been having s single beautiful dream, over and over again; only it doesn't feel like a dream, but something much stronger.
Her strange dream leads her to Vincent and backwoods Coven, a place of magic that not many people know exist.
This magical land has one catch that could end here or that of someone she loves. 🦄🦄🦄
Blackwoods: the Beginning by Teresa J. Martin & Adaline McMillian is the bsolutely glorious beginning to the series.
Full of magic, mystery and tragedy, this book is smaller than your average magical story but the authors have managed to jam pack it with adventure in less than 100 pages.
The ending of the book doesn't end on a cliffhanger or se but on a WTF moment when all you can ask is, "what's going to happen next?"
The book has a bit of romance and tragedy in it too so there's something everyone can enjoy.
Overall, highly recommended read and I cannot wait to see what happens next. 🦄🦄🦄

This introductory debut from two brilliant minds was both unexpected and a lot of fun.

This is a short, 100 page book that introduces us to a world of magic and covens. Each coven has a leader who starts it and they build it up to its maximum, 14 females and 14 males. Everyone is strong in some sort of elemental power but they also have other powers, such as visions or being a 'beast master'.

This book was very creative. I loved the magic system that was put here. Elemental magic is a little over-used but this book made it seem different. They did things with their elemental magic that I didn't expect. There was also my favorite character, a guy named Dex. He had these large wolves that followed him around and they were a part of who he was. I loved the bond between them and it made some magical, but also tragic moments in the book.

Full of twists and turns, these two writers are sure to leave you asking for more.
