5☆ A Captivating & Authentic War Time Saga I simply adored!

Victory for the East End Angels is the fourth and final book in the series, but my Second Book.
It can be read as a standalone but I do recommend reading them all as you miss out a little on getting to know the characters more, and they really are loveable characters.

Bella, Winnie and Frankie are back and warmly known as the East End Angels.
We follow their trials and tribulations as ambulance workers throughout WW2 and how the war impacts their lives, Family, Relationships and Friendships.

But as the war is coming to end, so is the turmoil surrounding it. What's next for the East End Angels. As they face the future with uncertainty, but one thing's for sure, their friendship will withstand anything!

Rosie Hendry once again has written a captivating and heart warming story.
Her passion for the era simply shines through and I really appreciated all the authentic touches that made this book extra special.

I love stories that feature war time. My Nan often told me many a story particularly about the doodlebugs and how scary and unpredictable they was and what it was like to live on rations. Seriously we don't know how lucky we are!

Victory for the East End Angels is a beautifully Compelling and Heart warming Story of Friendship, Camaraderie, Strength, Courage, Uncertainty, Family Drama, Relationships, Change and New Beginnings.
The Characters are Endearing, Charasmatic, relatable and I warmed to them very quickly.
I adored the Authenticity, Emotion and History that was seamlessly weaved throughout the story.

So if you love war time sagas, loveable characters, authentic touches and an endearing and captivating plot then you will adore Victory for the East End Angels!
I highly recommend the whole series! I can't wait to go back and read the other two books!

Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Victory for the East End Angels is the final book in the East End Angels series by Rosie Hendry. It can be read as a standalone but I think you will appreciate the characters a lot more if you have read the other books first.

Bella, Winnie, and Frankie are the East End Angels. The series has followed their lives and loves during the second world war.

The women work at Station 75 as ambulance drivers/attendants. The war is finally coming to an end and yet the danger is in some ways worse. With the introduction of the V1 and V2 rockets by the Germans, there is little or no warning of a strike and the disaster they cause is heartbreaking. Bella, Winnie and Frankie and the myriad of fabulous characters that work with them help to deal with the fall out despite the danger it puts themselves in.

In this final instalment of the series, there are deaths, marriages, fun times and horrific times all of which had me running the gamut of emotions, including plenty of tears. Even when the war finally ended it was very bittersweet because the lives of the women would never be the same. They had to go their separate ways, but that special friendship forged working on the ambulances, that routine, spending every day together were over. Apart from that bit of sadness, I loved that the women were determined to stay in touch and that they all had a happy ending after all that they had endured.

I was very moved by this book knowing that despite the women being fictional, in reality, life was like that during the war. The descriptions of the bomb sites, the atmosphere in the bomb raid shelters, especially the underground stations were exceptional. This book ticked all the boxes for me and despite the tears, I appreciated every part of this story and the series. I absolutely recommend it. There was a note at the end of the story saying that we might just hear more about Bella, Winnie and Frankie in the new series in the works so that leaves me with a smile on my face.

From the first book to the last in this series i have loved meeting Frankie,Bella,Winnie,Connie and Rose along with their families and friends and of course Officer Steele their boss.As the years pass station 75 still do an excellent job on all their call-outs some harder than others but the crews always give a first rate care to those they help.As time passes Winnie and Mac are now married and so happy,Frankie is worried about her fiance who is in europe tending those injured as she hasn't heard from him in a while.Winnie recieves some news that could put an end to her job but decides to keep it secret for as long as she can.Rose is still so worried about her family and after seeing a news reel she is so shocked and deeply concerned for their survival.I have to say that Rosie Hendry has given us such lovely stories about the girls during the war and i have loved them all and i am so glad that the girls have come through with a few scars but their friendships will last for ever.Worthy of more than 5* in my book. The last in the series is EXCELLENT.

The angels are back for the final time sadly, Frankie,Winnie and Bella, back at station 75 ,hoping the war is going to end soon. It's February 1944 in London, the characters in all this author's books have became like family to me. To share all the sad and happy moments has been as though I was in the book with them. It's been a long war and a trial waiting to see if their loved ones are safe. The other character S.O Violet Steele, Sparky,Rose and the awful Ivy have all made this book for what it is,and let's not forget Trixie the dog. I found myself savouring every single page as there's so much going on,finding it hard to put down. Not giving away any plots but fan's of Rosies have a special treat in reading it and will definitely need a tissue. Ambulance Station 75 saved so many lives during the war running an amazing service right up to V.E.Day a VICTORY never to be forgotten to this day. And yes this book did make me cry ,buckets. Look forward to more from this author.

“To always being friends, no matter where we are or what we do.”

Winnie, Frankie, and Bella’s journey as East End Angels ends in this fourth book of the East End Angels series. Their time together began in 1939. Together, they faced many challenges through the years as part of an ambulance station crew as the bombs rained down in London. What happens to them as the end of World War II finally nears? The long-awaited peace brings joy, and also changes.

Author Rosie Hendry has once again given us a sweet and intimate picture of these young women who chose to volunteer and serve their country. I enjoyed reading about their everyday lives, as they dealt with family, relationships shattered by the war, and food shortages. The girls shared happy times at the cinema or dance halls, and they also supported each other during heroic moments as they faced the danger of bombs, “doodlebugs” and V2 rockets.

There are many other wonderful and familiar characters in this book, Station Officer Violet Steele, Rose, Sparky, Mrs. Connelly the stationhouse cook, and of course, the little dog Trixie. The author does a wonderful job of writing short chapters that deftly flow from one character to another. We worry with the girls when they receive bad news and we rejoice when they share happy moments, such as at weddings or celebrating a New Year that will hopefully ring in peace.

We learn that the war had brought horrible moments, but good had come to the Angels, too. One of the best things to happen at Station 75 was the mixing of society as varied people came to work together, from East End factory girls to debutantes. Everyone had to learn to work together. And now Winnie, Frankie and Bella grew up and must decide what to do next as a new era begins.

I enjoyed this series. I loved that the author fixed a spotlight on an interesting and unsung part of the war. My only small quibble with book 4 is that except for Poland, very little mention is given to the other Allies who fought to free Fortress Europe.

Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK and Sphere publishing for an ARC. This is my honest review.

From The Comfy Chair Blog - https://comfychairbooks.blogspot.com/

What a charming tale of spirited, strong and determined women doing their best through the trying circumstances of the end of the war.

I read this book having not read any of the previous ones in the series and it does work well as a standalone but I do believe you’d possibly have more of an emotional connection to the characters if you had ‘lived through’ their past. I was truly swept into their world, but I believe if you are a fan of any series you are bound to be closer to the characters.

Bella, Winnie, Rose and Frankie are the East End Angels and they are all part of Station 75, working as ambulance drivers and attendants. They have been through a lot during the war but as the end approaches so do the introduction of the devastating V1 and V2 rockets – causing more destruction and carnage. These are some strong women – testament to what people really did do for the war effort, it really does serve as a reminder to appreciate those that risked everything for us today.

This book gives us highs and lows – love, heartbreak, death, marriage and fresh hope in times of darkness. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions for all involved. We see how, even with the end of the war, lives couldn’t automatically go back to how they were before and for many it was a bittersweet time. I think it was great we saw each of the characters approach the way ending differently; how they had been a solid team, always there for each other and being the ones they relied on and at the end they all seemed to part (whilst remaining the greatest of friends).

I think the writing is wonderful, very descriptive and emotive – the way the devastation was fully described yet without being too much or not in keeping with the style of the book. The pace was quick, with short chapters and it progressed nicely.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be interested in catching up on what I missed from earlier in the series. Thank you to Rosie Hendry and Rachels Randoms Reviews.

Book 4 in the East End series and this is sadly the last one in the series . I loved this final book just as much as I loved
the previous ones . We are back at Station 75 with Winnie, Frankie, Bella and Rose and the ambulance crew along with Station Officer Steele are kept busy helping the war casualties as London is still being bombed. But brighter days are on the horizon as the war seems to be coming to an end . I just love these ladies and how they cope with everything life throws at them . They have such an amazing friendship bond and have stuck together through thick and thin. Each of them having their own worries but are all there for each other . What will happen when the war finally ends and what’s in store for each of these women .

This is book #4 of the East End Angels series. It can be read as a standalone, but for continuity of the story I would recommend the series be read in order. We are back with the East End Angels, Winnie, Bella and Frankie, who are the workers of Station 75’s ambulance crew. The end of the war is near but although the dangers of the bombs still remain the girls can also see peace in all their futures. I loved the relationship that these characters have, they have been with each other through all the harrowing times of early war and the Blitz, working well with each other, yet most of all they are best friends.

This story will bring tears to your eyes with the tales of loved ones still abroad fighting, the hardships of war and the loss of lives through the endless bombing raids. It will however also bring joy in your heart with the camaraderie of the women left back at home, the dance hall days and the support and friendship of not just the main characters, but of the majority of women in London during this time.

The author takes you on a journey through time putting you in the heart of the East End. You can hear the doodlebugs and feel the heat from the fires following the bombing raids. Historically factual, it is obvious the author has done a huge amount of research for this book and it feels like you were reading true life stories from the women who were actually there. Being the last book of the series, the author has also tied up all the loose ends and given a satisfying ending to the Angels stories just as war is finally coming to an end.

A great book and series, showing what lives of the women left behind in the war were really like. Full of heartache, loss and tragedy, there is also equal amounts of love, families and most of all, friendships. A story which makes you realise how the women of the East End suffered, and yet with the support of their friends and loved ones they came through the war stronger than before. I’m sad that this series has ended, but happy that we was introduced to the women of Station 75’s ambulance crew – the East End Angels. A fitting tribute to all the female ambulance workers during the war. Would definitely recommend!

Based on real events, where women had to step up during times of war and take on nontraditional jobs, and food and other supplies were rationed, the East End Angels are a group of ambulance staff, who do their part to support additional aspects of the war effort. They are loyal and brave, and have to overcome their own fears and put personal relationships on hold while the unknown threatens daily. If you have read one or more of the previous books in this series you will already be fans of the author's writing and the characters as we watch friendships grow closer than those of blood relatives.
The women face danger both on and off the job as they share real fears and raw emotions. From missing family members to loved ones deployed to unknown locations, and not heard from for months, to happier times including a wedding dress that is refitted to several brides, and a sweet dog who is part of this growing family, and a baby who grows into a delightful toddler whose love fills the heats of those who were there at her birth, and declaration that war is over, even though that does not mean all the work is done, this is a series to get lost in. If you were not a history fan before, your interest will be piqued. I am sure your eyes will also be opened.

It is always sad when a book is designated as the final installment. This author has given us not only a satisfying ending but the potential for running into these dear friends again somewhere in time.

Winnie, Frankie and Bella are back. Its 1944 and they have just gone through the blitz. They are not only worried for their own safety but that of loved ones away at war. All three work at Station 75 as ambulance women working 24 hour shifts transporting casualties to hospital and very often digging them out from the rubble of a raid. This is the fourth book in the series and whilst it could be read alone it would make more sense having read the others first and why miss out on three other cracking reads?. Frankie is getting married, Bella has an unexpected new beau and Winnie finds that she is pregnant- not something she was planning quite yet. I love this series. It’s a wonderful easy read with great characters and I learn something along the way each time. A simple way to learn about history in a very digestible way. The writing is such that you get to know the characters very quickly (that’s some skill) and quickly develop an empathy for them. I appreciated the letter from Rosie at the end as it gives the last few characters closure which was nice to know and that it’s not the end for Station 75. I very much look forward to the new book. A wonderful entertaining read.

I previously read a book in this series, Christmas With The East End Angels ,and really enjoyed it, so I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for Frankie, Winnie and Bella this time.
The girls worked together throughout the blitz in the East End of London as ambulance workers. Their work is heartbreaking yet so essential and it has meant that the girls now have a tight, unbreakable bond. The people of the East End have seen families destroyed and homes are gone forever. Many still yearn for loved ones to return, the women show incredible strength but also the losses really take there toll.
As I said in the previous book, Rosie Hendry has researched this time in history so well that you feel it could be a factual story. It is a pleasure to read about the friendship of the girls but also get a real insight into their lives separately too.
There are so many wonderful characters, especially the other stationhouse staff. If you like WWII sagas, you will love reading about the girls of Station 75 (London Auxiliary Ambulance Service). It is heartwarming, insightful and authentic. I feel sad that this lovely series had to come to an end.

As per usual, I'm late to the party having jumped into this war-time series with the final book! Nonetheless, this was still such a great read, the author made it very easy to follow. I only wish I'd got involved sooner to experience the lives of Winnie, Frankie and Bella from the very beginning. I may just have to go back to the start just to satisfy my own curiosity.

It's clear, as I meet these ladies for the first time, that they have formed an incredible bond, having faced many challenges together through their work at ambulance station 75. As peace beckons, there is - naturally - concern for their loved ones who are serving overseas; yet, there is also time to consider their future when the war finally ends.

Together, these young women have overcome the blitz, only for another wave of even greater terror to hit London in the form of the doodlebugs and the V2 rockets. And while they continue to help others, their own personal stories are told. These tales enrich the book since they reflect the very human aspect of real life, whether there's a war going on or not. Clearly, their lives are in danger, their loved ones abroad are in constant peril, yet life has to go on.

Frankie still has to put up with her odious step-grandmother, Ivy, and never stops thinking of the day when evacuated Stanley can return home. Winnie continues to ignore her own parents - and for good reason - and bears a secret that she worries will force her to give up her job at the station. And Bella's writing goes from strength to strength as she builds barrier to prevent being hurt again. For Rose, a later addition to the group (or so I gather), the search for her family carries on, but news is thin on the ground while she hopes for the best but fears the worst.

Meanwhile, back at station 75, there are a myriad of wonderful characters: the strict - yet understanding - Station Officer Violet Steele; Sparky, the news junkie and the wonderful Mrs Connelly who serves up such fantastic meals to the appreciate crew.

It'd be remiss of me not to mention Trixie, Winnie's little pooch, who travels in the ambulance with her and who has been as much a member of the team as her human counterparts.

This is a heartwarming story, with the perfect mixture of joy and sadness, yet it is never without hope. I loved how at the end, each of their lives - despite having changed so dramatically - had been enriched by their experience. It was good to see Winnie telling her overbearing mother that she would make her own decisions about the birth of her child. For Frankie and her husband to go on to further help others who had lost everything was a lovely touch, and so very typical of them both. To see Bella get swept off her feet by her Polish airman and embrace love again was the best Happy Ever After we as readers could wish for her.

Rosie Hendry has created a fabulous WWII saga, with friendship and love at its core. Despite conflicts on the home front with errant family members, and conflicts caused by the war itself, these ladies showed the true spirit of the blitz - they weren't always calm, but they certainly carried on with their job, with their lives and with their commitment to each other.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and these are my own thoughts and mine alone, given voluntarily.

This was my first introduction to the work of Rosie Henry. Even though Victory for the East End Angels is Book Four in the series the author managed to captivate me with her characters and I was fascinated with how the social dynamics had changed in wartime with many women taking on the roles that were formerly destined for men. Although the book can be read as a standalone, as I have proved, there were moments that I wished I knew the history more of the characters and storyline so I would whole-heartedly recommend reading all the books in the series in order to get the full enjoyment and overall reading experience. The books in the series are:
East End Angels
Secrets of the East End Angels
Christmas with the East End Angels
Victory for the East End Angels
Winnie, Rose, Frankie and Bella are four friends that for the last few years have been working as ambulance crew for the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service - Station 75 in the heart of London. During their time they have experienced many traumatic scenes first-hand but the valiant work that these brave men and women volunteers do has unfortunately been a necessity of war.
Victory for the East End Angels is a story of friendship and love. It's also a story of survival in a world of uncertainty. There's a real sense of camaraderie during wartime periods and you can appreciate and acknowledge that the 'make do and mend' and 'keep calm and carry on' attitudes helped tremendously and are a perspective in life that we need to remember and replicate.
Rosie Hendry has written a wonderful family saga set in WWII, there were some highs and lows of life during conflict and our hearts were battered with the separations of our loved ones but the warmth spread within the community helped those in need at the time. I felt a gentleness with the authors writing but I was conscious of the authentic atmosphere of the times. A lovely heart-warming, honest and tender read.

Such a great ending to what has been a fabulous series!

As World War II enters it's final year, there are still bombs falling, wounded to be rescued, and loved ones overseas to fret about. Frankie worries about her fiance, and hopes that, as a doctor, he is still safe. Winnie, now wed to Mac, is afraid that he's in the path of more danger than ever, despite his pacifist views, whilst Bella still hasn't moved on since the death of James. However, their work continues as usual at Station 75; add in volunteering war work and queuing for food and their days are full - and even rewarding. They are all just wanting peace to be declared and their loved ones to be safe, but in the meantime there are the usual domestic troubles to deal with along the way.

This is a fitting end to what has been a remarkable series. Well researched and beautifully written, it portrays British life during wartime in a realistic manner showing the importance of friendship and teamwork. Life was hard, no doubt about it but everyone pulled together and supported each other in bleak times to get through. The characters all have troubles in their lives as well as the potential for wonderful futures and author Rosie Hendry spins a wonderful yarn, encompassing the happiness and misery of the war years. It's no secret that I love stories which are properly finished off, and this one leaves no stone unturned. Such fabulous reads! This is a wartime series to savour and enjoy, and the finale is absolutely worth a full five stars.

Set in the last year of the Second World War, you get to sample life as it must have been in London. The V2 rockets and Doodlebugs have brought the threat of destruction right into the heart of the city and you have to marvel at the courage of the Ambulance Service who go out, no matter what, to help its victims. There is masses of period detail within the story and you appreciate how the War has affected every aspect of daily life, right down to the rationing of food. Some are driven to desperate measures.

The deep friendships which have formed between all the workers at Ambulance Station Service 75 is apparent and the ties between the three main characters, Bella, Winnie and Frankie holds the story together. Each of their story threads are woven together and are what makes the story such a satisfying read. I particularly liked the way you are shown how the War work has changed the lives of the women and how difficult it is for them to contemplate the end of the War. It has brought them a purpose and independence they may not have had previously. Husbands and friends come and go throughout the book, as they would have done in real life but it is the ties between the Ambulance Service personnel which keeps them centred. This is a well- paced novel with distinct, rounded characters and a ton of period detail.

In short: The Home Front soldiers on to the end.

(paperback) Although I am sad to read the last book in this quartet I am happy to find out what happened to ‘the angels’. I bought the book in the autumn but have just finished reading it which is very appropriate because 2020 is the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. Okay, enough of the history lesson, what did I think about the book? Because I’d already invested in the previous three novels I was keen to learn how the girls (well, women now, really) Frankie, Bella and Winnie were fairing. I think that the author drew all the plot lines together in a way that was convincing and satisfying. Without giving too much away, there are babies, reunions, resolutions and questions answered. In common with others who’ve left a review I would like to know if Rose finds her family and if the others husbands get home safely. But an author can’t resolve every plot line and has to draw the line somewhere. I feel Ms Hendry has managed this skilfully. The background for this quartet has been very well researched and I hope younger readers learn a little about WWII from reading it. It’s a shame to see the end of Station 75, Winnie, Frankie and Bella’s adventures and the end of the series. Perhaps the author could be persuaded to write #5 in the years to come?

Today I am sharing my review for Victory for the East End Angels by Rosie Hendry, which has just been released and is the last book in the East End Angels series. I read this as a standalone book and really enjoyed the brilliant characters and the glimpse into how life was for the ladies driving the ambulances during World War 2.

I love historical fiction and really enjoyed the insight during this story as to what the women at home endured whilst their men were away fighting. I instantly loved Winnie and the friendship she had with Frankie & Bella, which was so important to help them remain strong and still look for the good things in life. The final instalment is the girls starting to consider how their lives are going to change once the war is over and contemplate if they can go back to their previous lives before they were thrown into turmoil.

I loved this story and feel invested in the characters and want to know what these brilliant ladies go on to do and achieve now the war is over. I can't wait to see what Rosie Hendry writes next as this book was brilliant!

An enjoyable series of WWII historical romances comes to its completion. We know, of course, now the larger story ends. I found that the book dragged on a little as each of the main characters began to face the future without the rewarding comradeship of Ambulance Station 75. However, Rosie Hendry does continue to expose issues arising which readers might not have considered previously. Did some of the children evacuated to the country for crucial years of their upbringing want to remain in the country, their tastes and skills having adapted to life outside urban Britain? The war was over in Europe but not over in the East. How many British and Commonwealth soldiers were redeployed to that theatre of war? How did the role of women change as a result of WWII? We know that the issue of displaced persons and missing persons remained a major problem in Europe long after the end of the war. How many people were employed by The Red Cross and UN programs of resettlement. "Victory for the East End Angels" leaves some stories open ended and indeed, there for many, as war ended, there would never be definitive answers.

A thoroughly enjoyable series has come to an end. I have really enjoyed reading about the lives of the three fictional women and their important roles during the war years. My knowledge of this period of time is very limited as my parents were both born towards the end of World War II so books like this, as well as being a great read, help inform me about the lives and jobs of people during this difficult time as I know that the author spent a lot of time and effort finding out as many facts as possible about the roles of the women in the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service plus the damage caused in which areas of London at particular times during the war prior to writing this series. I am sad that I will no longer be able to enjoy hearing about the lives of Winnie, Frankie and Bella but I thoroughly enjoyed the time while it lasted.

really liked this book. a great series that I will read again, this is the last in the series,
The girls continue there duty's in London during WW2 at AMBULANCE station 75. The story sucks you in as the others have previously in this series.

again great writing from Rosie. a good plot twist in here that I didn't see coming, I thought it would be something different but still involve the D DAY landings june 6th 1944. But I was wrong it took the story another way and it was lovely.

a fantastic written series, If anyone is reading this and never read the books do read them.
follow the girls as they travel across London during WW2 . this series doesn't disappoint,

would happly read over and over, I rarely do that with books.

Quintessentially Beautiful.

With great thanks to Rosie Hendry for an exceptional 4th book and conclusion to Winnie Frankie Bella Rosie, and last but not least the glue that held them together Violet station master Steel.
Life has been a rollercoaster for these past 5 years the characters have come into themselves the camaraderie between them looking out for each other has been a total joy to read, there were times I could have given winnie a good shake a very head strong young lady but in the end it all worked out perfectly. I am totally bereft that it's come to and end but what a joy and total pleasure it has been having these ladies in my life. I can’t praise this book enough and can highly recommend.

Victory for the East End Angels by Rosie Hendry

This is a satisfying conclusion to the series that follows the lives of Frankie, Winnie, and Bella as they do their bit for the war effort driving ambulances in wartorn London, risking their lives to save others.
Class has no place in the ambulance station as everyone pulls together to support each other through the tough times and to celebrate the happy moments.
But what will become of the girls when the war ends and the station closes?
Great uplifting story and I have no hesitation in recommending reading the whole series.
Thoroughly enjoyable read.

The war is not quite over yet for the East End Angels so there is lots of drama and problems for all the girls to resolve. It was fascinating to discover how life pans out for them all - perhaps not the way that they would necessarily have envisioned but as the war draws to a close, they all have to think about the next path they will take. I don't want to say any more and spoil it so you'll just have to read to the end. A lovely conclusion to the series, full of warmth and camaraderie that captures the real East End atmosphere.

This is the last book in this series and takes up two years after the last one. The four friends are still together at the ambulance station but about to part ways for now. I loved reading this and while I normally hate to leave a book down, I did with this one because I didn't want it to be finished. Hopefully in time Rosie will write another story to let us see what happened after the war. If you haven't read any of these series, then I would recommend you do.

I absolutely loved it. So sad that the East End Angels' stories have come to an end. You feel you have been apart of their lives from the very beginning.

The three friends of Station 75, have shared their saddest of times and their happiest of times through war torn London, but proved that no matter what, friendship will always shine through.

I would highly recommend the whole series of these wonderful stories. You will not be disappointed.

Really sorry to say goodbye to all the girls and crew at Station 75. I enjoyed the whole series of these books and I truly didn't want it to end. The camaraderie and friendship between everyone shone through and made the enjoyment of reading them really special. Would have given it more than five stars if I could.

Victory for the East End Angels

I thoroughly enjoyed this series and didn't want it to end. The characters were lifelike and unique, just like we humans are. They grew and developed! I am reading through WWIIand learning alot along the way about customs of England,France, and Belgian citizens.
