Futaro Uesugi the private tutor has come down sick after the school trip, but not even illness can keep him from trying to get the quints to study! As he tries to get closer to the five girls, he ends up driving a wedge between them instead. And just when he's about to hit rock bottom, Futaro's past catches up to him in a big way?! The drama continues in volume 5.
This concludes the trip arc, and we get to see a lot of Yotsuba in this one, and the girl from the picture... Why does she look so much like the quints???? And what is thier past? I get the comments about their father now that we have found out hes a step parent. This is getting quite twisty and turny now!
Another adorable, funny, and super dramatic volume!
I loved seeing Yotsuba as the star this time around and her "date" with Futaro was hilarious and heartwarming. That scene where they're swinging as high as they can...oh my gosh, so touching and beautiful. The art, as usual, emphasizes these emotional moments, making it a feast for the eyes. I wish more time had been devoted to Futaro's backstory, but I understand readers will getting more in the next volume, so I can wait. Speaking of backstories, it was interesting to hear that the quintuplets didn't grow up with wealth. I'm definitely curious to learn more about that, but it was great seeing Futaro gently put in his place being so judgmental about the girls' financial stability.
Most of all, though, I need more backstory on Nino. Out of all the girls, Nino has been the most combative, manipulative, and emotional about this whole situation and it bothers me that we still haven't gotten her side. Hopefully that will come up soon because it's kind of annoying seeing a character struggle so much with this new change and yet know little to nothing about why she feels that way.
Anyway, this was a great volume and I'm having a blast reading this series. While it's nothing original, it knows what it is and is simply trying to be a drama-filled good time. And I am definitely here for it!
Continued adventures of Yotsuba and the Quintuplets. It was nice as usual and we learned more details about all the main characters. Let's carry on and Keep on Reading.
I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
I think I could safely make the claim that this one is the best so far. Lots of great moments from all the girls, lots of drama. I am seeing more potential in this series, hopefully it picks up from here.
And now they're down to the line! Time crunch! And what's going on? The girls have resorted to insulting & even assaulting each other, over Kotaro! And now two girls have run away. One to a hotel, where she refuses to see Kotaro, & another to Kotaro's family home, & refuses to leave! And finals are four days away. Could this be the end of the high-paying, high-stakes tutoring job? And who's this pretty girl, who shows up out of nowhere, & knows more than just Kotaro's full name? Serious business, to be sure. And will that blockhead Kotaro realize & accept that the quints are fighting over him? He's a lucky man, indeed. Getting paid big money to be surrounded by beautiful girls, all of whom are interested in him! Some just haven't come to terms yet with their feelings. Art, excellent. Dialogue, very real, very true. Characters, believable, likeable, relatable, & in the quint's & little sister's places, absolutely adorable.
This series is generally referred to as romantic comedy. That's technically not wrong, but it reads to me much more like a mystery novel.
If you have a murder mystery, one of the first things you're told is, "there's been a murder." But the story isn't really ABOUT the murder. It's about solving the puzzle. Who did it? How? Why? Among all these suspects, what's the answer to the mystery that's been presented?
In a way, this series is the same. The first thing we're told is, "there's been a wedding!" But I don't feel like the series is really ABOUT the romance. It's about the mystery. Who does he marry? What events lead up to it? What are the clues that can help us solve the matter?
I mentioned in my review for volume 1 that it feels like the series is leading us in a particular direction, and that I hoped that I was wrong. This is why. Nobody wants the culprit to be the first person who came to mind. On the other hand, maybe the author knows EXACTLY what he's doing. Maybe he's deliberately playing into specific tropes to use as a red herring.
That said, I do enjoy the series even aside from the mystery. Sure, it has romance. It's a romantic mystery, after all. It could no more be without romance than a murder mystery could be without a murder weapon. But more importantly, it feels like the characters are growing on individual levels as well. There are six leading characters. Each of them plays off of every other character in a different way. Some of them get along. Some of them don't. Each of them has their own unique flaws to overcome. So even if the solution to the puzzle ends up being a letdown (which I hope it won't), I don't think it will spoil the series as a whole.
The best volume so far only because Yotsuba and Futaro's "date" is genuinely adorable. Yotsuba, the chipper airhead of the harem, gets some appreciated character development in this one and earns the new title of best girl. I liked Miku before, but Yotsuba showing some depth has softened my previous criticisms of her being mildly annoying. It's sweet how she tries to open up to Futaro and their date is heartwarming without enough fanservice to ruin it.
The climax/ending of the book focuses on a conflict between Nino and Itsuki, the two most brash and hostile sisters. Nino, for no good reason at all, acts like an ungrateful and argumentative asshole who bullies her tutor just like she has for the entirety of the series so far. She's always been like this, it's not new. However, what shocked me was that Itsuki (of all people) stood up to her in Futaro's defense.
Itsuki has never cared for the boy either, so her standing up for him was a pleasant surprise and sign of character growth. Nino by contrast doesn't change or grow at all and only further cements herself as the worst character in the story with her awful personality. I hate her. What a loser.
Those two events make this volume fairly memorable and while only one scene (the date) was that enjoyable it was still so enjoyable as to make it the best chapter in any of the volumes thus far.
I've been trying to pinpoint why I didn't enjoy this volume as much as others in the series and having a hard time doing so. It may be unfair but I was reading it when tired and fell asleep several times. However, I've read other things when tired and not had nearly that problem... so *shrug*
It wasn't awful, I just did not find it as compelling. Maybe because there were 3 different story arcs covered in one volume so I didn't feel a focus? Or maybe I just didn't feel like the characters really grew or changed much in this volume... Like I said, I am having a hard time. All I know it it was alright. Mayhaps in a few months I'll revisit it and be able to change my opinion. But for now... 3-stars.
Mind you, I shall continue reading them as I can because I do like the series.
Verdict: If you are following QQ you need to read it to know what's going on. Sadly for me this one wasn't as interesting, I hope you fare better.
First of all, this author knows how to do a cliffhanger. Second, I still curious to see the outcome of Fuutaru’s wedding and who is that girl form his past. However, I don’t think Negi Haruba is doing a good job with developing all quintuplets equally. Considering one of them, allegedly,is the bride. Because, out five, only three-ish has real chances to end up with Fuutaru. Like Yotsuba and Ichika are just there for the sake of mystery, Miku seemed promising in first and second volumes but started to fade into the background as the plot progressed. Can picture her as the bride though less than Nino or Itsuki.
I'm so curious as to where this is going. I like that we're learning more and more about the girls and their feelings as the chapters go! I will say, this is bang on a four - so definitely just scraped from a 3. Not my favourite so far, but still pretty good. The ending of this volume makes me want to go straight into volume six!

Although the reveal of which quint Futaro met as a grade schooler teases the reader at the beginning and end of this volume, the secret is never revealed, though one of the girls now knows he remembers. What this volume does offer is chapter after chapter of sweet, slice of life moments as Futaro draws closer to his students. It’s heartwarming writing. The drama at the end feels a bit tedious, but by now I enjoy the characters so I forgive the author for drawing things out for a living.
Ormai me ne mancano solo dieci per mettermi in pari...
Rispetto a Love Hina c'è poco fanservice e io approvo.
Yotsuba is best girl, even if I kinda like Ichika just a tad more (I worry that Yotsuba hadn’t been given enough depth yet, sometimes). More of both please! I think the Yotsuba “date” is my favorite thing in the story thus far. This one showed character growth and hijinks and I have no fucking clue what’s gonna happen now with this ending.
More of a 3.5 star rating but gave it 4 stars because the fight between the sisters was unexpected, especially with how bad it was. I’m also very curious to see which twin ends up being Futaro’s mystery girl.
This was the volume where things started to fully click for me. We have some solid character building moments, great slice of life moments, and a well done cliff hanger. I'm glad that I stuck with the series.
Just wanted to say that the part where Futaro stays up all night and writes out all of the girls’ practice questions by hand really warms my heart. Yeah he’s getting paid, but he didn’t have to do that.
