This book picks up pretty quickly after the previous book. But honestly I felt bored through this entire book. There are still plotholes and editing errors, this book could really use some more polishing. Naturally the action doesn’t happen until the 80% mark which is somewhat annoying to do. I also don’t like the foreshadowing of when an event will happen in the future as one of my highlighted passages indicates.
Not only that but this entire time we are told that she is a virgin, but then it sounds like she has sex in this book. But the sex isn’t explicit, very flowery and I honestly wasn’t sure there was sex going on. Too flowery for me. But then in the middle of that she mentions that she did have sex previously. So which is it?
There are a lot of issues with this book in terms of driving the plot forward. I still don’t understand why the witch cares, and how these stones ended up inside random places. Like how did they get there if they were lost in The Great War, it’s never explained.
Many things happen off the pages and honestly she’s a bit of a Mary Sue. Everything keeps happening sure she isn’t perfect but the way things go down is just too obvious.
I figured out where the stone was after the second clue.
I wish I could say I want to continue this series but the writing while it is ok is not enough to keep me going.
*WARNING* contains minimal sexual content So this is book 2 in this series and I am NOT disappointed. Olivia is getting bolder. She is still understandably frightened, I mean who wouldn't be, but she is finding her "fight mode". Our four dragons are still not cooperating though, near constant fighting, is it a Dragon thing or a jealously thing? I am thoroughly enjoying following this series and watching these characters develop along with their personalities, and relationships. The author does a great job describe each Dragon kingdom as it's entered and the two I've read about so far are completely different. The hardest and worst part for me is waiting for the release of the next book because, yes this ends with a cliffhanger 😕 Bring on the fire kingdom!
Olivia is in the race of time she has 5 months left to save her 🐉 dragon men! This is a totally amazing book I fell for these four dragons even more then before! These 4 dragons are so protective of Olivia you had Help but Falling for them and Mister Issik you can tell he is starting to come around just ❤️ him! In this book we go to Kieran's Kingdom In Search of the second Stone the stone of poison it's an awesome Journey be ready to get sucked in I so recommend this book you will love it! 🐉
I don’t know what I was expecting . I couldn’t even finish this. If you want to read a book that is annoyingly childish with adult themes look no further. The female character annoys the crap out of me. She’s trying so hard to be a bad ass but falls short on so many levels. I felt like the author made her into a cutesy, boy crazy teen. There were so many opportunities to reverse what a dud she was and I can’t help but imagine her voice like a valley girl “ like, omg there’s four of them and like one of me, and oh my gosh they’re like dragons and like, I’m going to have sex with them all” done with this series. Two thumbs down
Writing was good but the heroine was annoying. I thought she was a virgin but then on book two before she did the deed with one of the dragons in a very vague description she wasn't. Confusing. The heroine was ditzy, weak, and always doubts herself. The actions were repetitive. There were three villains that attacks repetitively the dragons and h. The witch, wraiths, and the Griffin. The actions were boring and repetitive. Got tiring after awhile. Basically skipped the pages until the last page when the h finds the star as predicted.
I do believe I’ve read this author before and enjoyed to books for a light fun read. The story line is too bad, not terribly complex and pretty predictable, but I still found it enjoyable. My reason for lower rating is because in book 1 the main character is a virgin, by book 2 she isn’t and she didn’t “do the deed”. Her entire back story changed. As a reader I have some big issues with this big detail getting “screwed up”.
Olivia has five more months to save the dragons, the men she loves. She has to find each of their Star Stones to break the curse placed on them by the witch Tianna. Having found the Star of Tranquility, Olivia and her dragon kings are now headed to Kieran’s kingdom, Viperus to find the Star of Poison. Hopefully, Kieran won't have any crazy girlfriends plotting her death but his kingdom is full of creepy crawlies, slithering snakes, and plenty of other dangers. From the plants to the water to the butterflies this kingdom is deadly. A fitting home for the Dragon of Poison. And it's not like Tianna has forgotten about her either. If she can find the star and stay alive it will be a small miracle. But she is determined to save her dragons.
I really love this series in many ways. The world building is excellent. The story is compelling. Tianna is a formidable foe. Olivia is likable. I love her clumsy ways and her growing feelings for the guys. I loved her struggles with tranquility. The guys claim their devotion to her. However, like with the first book, I feel that there is still a disconnect. In the first book, the other women really disturbed me. Jase was way to intimate on multiple levels with Harlow. Issik was too removed. Harlow is no longer an issue since we switched kingdoms but it still doesn't make Jase trustworthy. Issik is still hesitant. All of the guys are physically attracted to Olivia. All of them want to protect her. These don't make their attachments clear. Lust is easy. Keeping her alive benefits them. If she dies, so do the dragons. I would like to feel that she matters to them because she's Olivia. I need to feel more of a true personal connection before I am going to love this series as an RH. It's a very entertaining fantasy adventure, dragon tale but I'm not sold on the RH aspect yet.
The story itself was enjoyable. I love the treasure hunt for the stars. I love the dragon squabbles. I love the mysterious woman. I enjoy Tianna's efforts to thwart their success. And that ending! Now is the time for the men/dragons to prove what Olivia means to them. Time to prove their worth. I can't wait for more.
*I have received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review
What an amazing second installment to an awesome series! I just couldn't put the book down. Each word made me more and more immersed in the story.
This book has the perfect blend of romance, action, and world building. Olivia was a great heroine in the novel. I loved how spunky she was. Her dry sense of humor had me laughing many times throughout the story. And her strength as a heroine truly made her stand out. I liked how she fought for her boys and the betterment of the dragon realms. Olivia was a great narrator and really made the novel awesome.
The harem was my favorite part of the novel. Jase, Issik, and the rest are so sweet. I love how Olivia has a unique connection between each of them. The chemistry between Olivia and Jase are completely off the charts. There is a real genuine bond between Olivia and her harem. I just liked how each of the boys were great characters on their own, but together they were a supernova.
The romance was A+ in this novel. There was so much chemistry and steam. I just loved the kissing and smexy stuff. The author did a really good job making it hot, but really sweet and tender. I also liked the lingering slow-burn in the novel. The romance progressed slowly and took time to build. And, that was by far my favorite part.
The world building is amazing. I loved how we got to see more of the different realms of the dragons. I loved seeing the magical aspects of the world and the evil people. The villains were awesome. They added a lot of tension to the story, which was evened out by amazing tender moments.
All in all, an amazing second installment from the amazing J.L. Weil. I definitely recommend this book. Go-one click it for all you reverse harem lovers.
I absolutely loved the first book and was really looking forward to Kieran's story. He is one of my favorite guys/dragons, and so freaking hot. Olivia is searching for the Star of Poison and gets to see Kieran's kingdom. I enjoyed the book but not as much as the first one. It was a lot faster, with less detail than the first and I wanted to see more of Viperus, especially as the guys made it seem so much more dangerous than what we get, which is a few snakes. Also, Olivia seems to have gone backward in this installment. Instead of growing from her last run in with Tianna, she is more helpless than ever, even with the breath of Tranquility, she is almost incapable of taking care of herself, to the detriment of the dragons. Yeah, once she actually kind of stands up for herself but thats it. There is also very little heat which was kind of disappointing, although her and Kieran do their thing, there isn't much build up. It just happens. Honestly, I will continue to read the series, especially because I cannot wait to get to Issak's story, but I really hope the future books capture the wonder and excitement of the world the author created, and have more character building. The second book was lackluster compared to the first, but here is to hoping the series gets better as does Olivia's character! Oh and warning, it ends on a cliffhanger.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book. You'll need to start with book 1 to fully get book 2 & not feel lost, as the world building starts in book 1. I loved the first book, my favorite dragon book to date. Book two is still good, still a great read, but didn't quite pull off what book one did for me. I felt there were a few places in this book that didn't flow as well, and a few places that just didn't work for me. I still love the 4 dragons (Jase, Kiernan, Zade & Issik). But Olivia came across a bit more childish & ditzy than she did in book one (I really hope she evolves more in book 3). I felt that she had some character growth at the end of book 1, but lost it in book 2. With having the breath of Tranquility, I felt Olivia should have had a bit more confidence or something, even just in her ability to help find the stones. This book almost feels like luck (or the ghostly beings in the water) is helping her find the stones instead of her actually having something to do with it. I also want to feel more of why the Dragons are all attracted to her. Looking forward to book 3.
Olivia is on her way to find the second step in saving the world.......... and ready for it? 🐉 I was excited to get to book 2. The books are short, attention grabbing, sexual tension making, and llama drama. 🐉 Then BAM Olivia is suddenly not a Virgin and is doing with our Poison Dragon on the forest floor. This just about killed the story for me. Her being a Virgin was so important in the plot. It’s why she couldn’t handle the attraction and want for 4 different guys. 🐉 She mentions a few times, its not like they haven’t already seen me naked........ when?!?!?!? The first group bathing was before her sexy times, but book 1 didn’t have any nacky times.... Did it happen between book 1 or 2? 🐉 Our poison dragon, while mention having a hint of an accent in book 1, suddenly has an Irish accent. 🐉 If it wasn’t for 1 important scene in building a relationship with 1 dragon, I wouldn’t think she would have any feelings towards him. In fact, Sleepy, Poison, and Red Hot all have kissed her, but Frosty hasn’t.......Yes they all have names. We have Jase- Sleepy, Poison- Kieran, Red Hot- Zade, and Frosty- Issik. My autocorrect is hating the names. 🐉 The timeline starts to get a bit blurred in book two. At the end of book 1, they had a 6 month time line. They ended book 1 in month 5 of the 6 month count down. At least that is how I interpreted it. I thought this book was like another month..... 🐉 In book 2 we get to see more of the magic of the realm and what Olivia might be capable of. As well as some divine....ghostly help. We also get to see a deeper glimpse on how wicked our wicked witch is. 🐉 So while I was upset with the virginity change, accent, and a few small items, I was going to continue and give the book 3 a chance. Why?! Because I wanted to see if Frosty would melt. He is JUST my type of man crack.🤤🤤🤤🤤
Olivia has fallen for all four dragons. She has no favorite and it gets more difficult to not fall prey to their charm. Five months to break the curse. After much debate, Kieran becomes the focus of the next project. Olivia must find the Star of Poison in order to save him. She was successful with the Star of Tranquility and absorbed some of its powers. But Tianna still wants the items designed to keep the dragons stuck to the isle. And she will stop at nothing to get Olivia. They head to Viperus to find the Star. Everything in the kingdom is deadly and Olivia must ensure she doesn’t kill herself or one of the dragons. Maybe she will…maybe she won’t. .
It’s a very interesting series. Dragons are not my thing, but this book works. The hardships, the mistakes and the clumsiness makes it funny and interesting. This is a treasure hunt to find the treasures that will save the day. But can she pull it off?? We shall see.
Absorbing Poison is the second book in J.L. Weil's Dragon Descendants series. The events pick up not long after the first book leave off and flow seamlessly together. Olivia, Issik, Kieran, and the others must find a way to completely break the curse and journey to Kieran's kingdom in search of the second stone. Olivia is beginning to be more at ease with her dragons, and I love to see their relationships develop as the story progresses. Olivia is strong and able to handle the challenges she faces, but she also pushes her guys to be better and to include her in their plans. I love that these characters draw you into their world and make you keep reading their story. If you loved the first book in the series, you will definitely love this one. I can't wait for the next installment!
Olivia Campbell has five months to find a way to break the curse that bound the last four dragons to the veil or the age of the dragons will come to an end.
Kieran Devenport has the ability to breath poison. Not only is he edgy and charming, he's quite dangerous and an ally that Olivia is glad to have. She will need his help in order to find the Star of Poison in Kieran's kingdom of Viperus.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are fantastic and have a lot of depth to them. The story line is fantastic, with plenty of action, humor and of course great romance. You'll have a hard time putting the book down, I know I did! I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out!
The main character is very repetitive and weak. I’m all for characters having flaws and not being fighting BA’s out of nowhere…but her clumsiness and weakness is so prevalent that it is starting to grate on the nerves. She makes decisions I don’t understand. Like why not tell the dragons about the woman in the water giving her advice? She claims she wants to help break the curse, but spends half the book complaining when she has to walk through the woods. She talks about how they’re running out of time…but also wants to spend a day sitting down doing nothing. I don’t get it girl. I just don’t.
I should probably give up on the series, but it’s super short and I sort of want to see how it ends.
Was so ready to keep going with this series and for me there were a few things that let it down.
I do like Olivia as a main character but find some of her decisions confusing with the whole Kieran thing... I knew going in this was a kind of book I had never read before but thought the stories would be more balanced with the male leads.
I did really like how some were explained a bit more and we did learn more about the world which is why I do enjoy the books. I do hope we can get the story to speed up and get more details I'm definitely ready.
The story is enjoyable and I'm still keeping an open mind. Really ready for more zade if you ask me
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*** J.L. Weil has done it again. This book is wonderful and she really knows how to leave you hanging. This is the 2nd book in the Dragon Descendants Series. This book picks up right where it left off. Olivia and her dragons are still looking for the other missing stones. This book is such a quick and easy read! I was so excited to have more smexy scenes with Olivia and her dragons. Olivia is more comfortable and confident around her dragons. I am so drawn into this world and this series. J.L. Weil does a great job at making you feel like you are in this world. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series
I received a complimentary copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
Normally I’m not into reverse harem but this did intrigue me. There was the usual amount of wisecrack humour keeping it reasonably lighthearted, but a strong touch of romance and action to keep readers on edge. I did enjoy this book despite my aversion to reverse harem, because the heroine and her dragons are interesting characters enough to keep me entertained. This was a good read because more characters are being explored and new powers are being discovered. I’m both peeved and impressed with the cliffhanger ending because it keeps it interesting but also is inconvenient for the MC.
This is the second book in the series, I didn't write a review for the first one. I have a hard time writing reviews as I don't like to give things away and spoil it for others. First I would like to say that I like the story itself and I am interested to see what happens next. The guys are intriguing with their different abilities making them more interesting then just a standard dragon shifter. I guess the reason I am giving 3 stars is more for personal taste...I am not big on the YA of it all....writing is more simplified and safe. Some of the female heroine MC personality traits are extremely annoying but that is because she is young an inexperienced....again a YA thing.
I'm shell shocked how book 2 reads. The heroine has turned into a TSTL girl. The fact she was homeless before this and survived for months alone is laughable. Especially considering she now supposedly can't walk down the stairs without falling over and being carried.
The plot, my goodness the plot, all she had to do was tell them about the woman helping her sooner but noooo we have to be reminded that they are all dreamy and naked all the time. The heroine is not invested in helping the dragons, the silly things she keeps doing. I just couldn't read anymore.
This is a Y/A book that tried to take on a potentially epic plot but turned it into drivel.
I'm still really enjoying this series. I took one star off bc there were a few things the MC did that kinda irritated me. I wish she was a little tougher, but I'm hoping that she'll get stronger as the series progresses. I absolutely love her developing relationships with the dragons. The author's ability to keep this YA and RH is amazing. I will definitely keep reading this series. It does end on a wicked cliffy, so if you're not a fan, avoid until the series is finished. I don't mind a good cliffhanger, so I'm anxiously awaiting the next book!
So we get to continue the story of Olivia and her dragons. The first book introduced us to everyone and what the story was about. I was happy to see this book come out. It was a bit more fast paced than the first but didn’t lack at all. The connection with the dragons and Olivia keeps building and getting more comfortable. I like seeing the creativity the authors has with the new world.
I don’t want to give anything away so will say definitely worth reading and I would recommend you start with book one. You won’t be disappointed.
With Jayce, Dragon of Tranquility, safe from the curse, it’s time to find the next Star. Kieran, the Dragon of Poison is chosen, so off they go to his dangerous kingdom of Viperus.
Up to now, Olivia was practically defenseless against the four sensual dragon shifters, but at least now she’s acquired a defense ability of her own: tranquility breath. What new surprises is she in for now?
Fave scenes: meeting Alice, Olivia & the snake, Olivia determined to search the castle and climbing the snake.
Omg this bitch talks like a 12 year old and is such a pick me And does all these dudes know how to do is smirk, pick her up and just being fucking weird The witch has like no storyline You’d think they’d be something more of substance but the itch just seems like an annoying extra step for a plot of nothing. They have so much potential yet nothing. Also someone else pointed it out but I’m gonna do it again. So in the book and last it mentions she is a virgin then all of a sudden she actually isn’t a virgin and just had a disappointing experience. Why call herself a virgin omg
Book 2 in the Dragon Descendants series was a definite must read! I read this book in two days! It was so good, this was all I wanted to read or listen to. Im so happy they are actually in love or have true feelings for each other. I love suspense that’s always lurking around the corner for the 5 of them. I must go to the next book like right now! If your looking for comedy, love, suspense, flirting, steamy dragon/men then you came to the right place!
This is the second story in the Dragon Descendants series and is very enjoyable.I really enjoyed this story. It was fast, well written, and enjoyable. The characters are well developed and grow throughout the book. The narrator does a great job with the story and has a very pleasant listening voice. The story world is great and goes to a second realm in the Isle of Veils - the fantasy world of the dragon shifters. Overall a very well done book.
Olivia and her four dragons continue on to find the second stone. The witch is hot on their trails and brings the beasts of the forests with her. Decided she cannot choose one dragon Olivia is wondering how she can have all four for herself. She doesn’t get long to ponder as trouble comes for her. Battles, nightmares and some hot steamy scenes make this a gripping read. Pure brilliance
So the first one was a little bit of a let down but I thought maybe once the characters were introduced and a plot/world building was there we would get more but it’s just the same old same old. A lot of information about side characters who at this point have served no purpose. A ton of relationship building without the text to watch it happen, we are just told never shown the development. A weak FMC. I just can’t get into it and I’m surprised it rates so high.
The sexy dragons are back. Olivia and her four loves are on the hunt for the second star. In it you will find snark, oodles of sexy thoughts, and some awesome fight scenes. While searching Olivia gets closer to a few of her dragons while learning more about the witch they are facing. A must read for any Weil fan.
I believe this one was a lot better than the first and Olivia was not as annoying as in the previous book but still quite moany. I do however love our 4 dragons. Each with their own personalities and each lovable in their own ways. I am looking forward to the rest of this series. If you love hot dragons then this is the book for you.
