I was in Cape Town when Nelson Mandela was freed so was interested to read this story. 4 girls represent what was the 4 classes under apartheid - they bond together as sisters come what may - each have challenges to make as they grow up and then make their own ways. Some very sad parts and some joyous ones too.
I wonder how the story would change ii it was written about Jo'burg today??
