Running.
It's what I do. What I've always done.
For fitness. For fun.

And now for fear.

He took me. Trapped me. Destroyed me.
Broke me down, little by little.

His captive.
His slave.
His pet.

But...something unleashes.

Something forbidden. The passion. The pleasure.
It's wrong. Unforgiving, and I should do what I do.

Run like Hell.

SOOO...this book turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag for me. I love a good Stockholm Syndrom story, and this looked like it was headed in the direction of being an excellent one. And I enjoyed it for the most part. It kept me interested and turning the pages for sure.

description

However, by halfway through I was starting to get a little annoyed at things that didn't make a lot of sense. For one, why didn't Kat, Lucy, or Hendrix never try to escape? Yes, we are told over and over how smart Ray is, and how he is always one step ahead...but a couple of times Mr. Smartypants baddie was passed out drunk. Or he went off to a bar to spend the night drinking thus leaving all three of them home, and able to move around freely. So why didn't anyone pick up a phone and call the cops? Or leave and find some help? They had plenty of opportunities to escape. Not to mention there was three of them against one middle-aged man!

description

My other issue was I didn't like Hendrix. He was a pretty big coward IMO. I was expecting a hero with a bigger set of balls (lol). Add in that there was no graphic sex, and the ending (there will be book two) was a little out there and confusing, and what started as a very promising book fizzled into "meh" territory. At this point, I am both a bit curious and a bit undecided on whether I will bother with book two...

I have to admit I don't read books like this and I actually wasn't excepting to like this at all, but I love all of R linda’s other books so I knew I had to give it a go

Well R Linda did not only exceed my expectations she blew it out the water and I was clearly surprised, once I started reading this book I couldn't put this book down I just had to know what was going to happen.

This story started out very interesting and I'm going to say too much as I think this book is best to go into it blind and really figure out your own connection to these characters and this story.

I did love all the characters in this book Hendrix was such a lost soul that just didn't know if I could like him, but the more you get to know him and learn his back story you will learn to love him.

This story is one that everybody could read even if you do’t like this genre or if you have wanted to read this genre this is the best book to ease you into it.

Absolutely loved this story and just love R Linda’s writing and kept me captivated throughout the whole book.

Loved Loved Loved this story a big 5 stars for this and can’t wait to see what we get next.

Sooo GOOD! MIND BLOWING
Holy heck this is one unbelievably dark bumpy twisted ride that grabs hold of you and shakes you to your core leaving you frazzled, speechless, shocked, numb and leaving you wanting to turn around and re-read it all over again because your adrenaline is on fire your mind is at a complete shutdown reeling still trying to process the words as they flow from the pages pulling you into the deep dark depths holding you captive with head reeling twists that blow your mind over and over again wanting and needing for it to continue to assault what bit of common sense you still have that keeps whispering telling you to get out while you still can but it's soooo good there's no way you'd put yourself through all this dark dripping despair to bail out on it now! An absolute fricken get it and read it and enjoy the hell-riden ride!

Wow...I may need a minute... This book was so much I'm a little speechless. It hooked me from the beginning. Excellent storyline and I loved everything about Hendrix and his struggle with his humanity/morality. Lucy is so strong. She deals with so many things that would make a normal person break but does what she has to not only to survive but retain her spark. If you have read any of R. Linda's previous books, this one is vastly different. It is a much darker, gritty novel with a lot to stomach before that HEA comes along. But it is definitely worth the journey if you like darker books. The ending wrapped up a little too tidily for me, and that is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but still an excellent read.

Twisted Love (Stockholm Syndrome Series #1)
R. Linda #RLinda @RLinda

4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
#Dark #violence #abuse #mindgames #secrets #Suspence
#stockholmsyndrome #abduction #survival
Dual POV

From the Author that brought you The Scandalous Series comes a new novel.
Come meet Hendrix and Lucy.

*May contain triggers for some people: Violence, abuse, talk of rape.*

This is alot darker than R. Linda's previous books.

It had me gripped from the start. A page turner. Well written for such a sensitive subject.

Lucy's family life is for appearances only. She didn't want to follow in her Senator Father's footsteps of Politics. She wanted to make it on her own. So when she was barely 18 her Father cut her off. She's managed to pay her way through college while working in a bar.
Until she meets Hendrix.

'He took everything away, he was the only one I trusted.' ~Lucy

Hendrix also hasn't had the best of family life.
Since his Mother's death, when he was young. Ray, his Father lost the plot and has been trying to find the perfect replacement. During this psychotic break that Ray is going through he's been abusing, beating, manipulating Hendrix to be like him. But Hendrix doesn't want anything to do with his Father's wrong doings.
Until Lucy. He wants to fight more for her.

'How I'd managed to survive Ray for so long without turning into a psychopath myself. I wondered about that alot. Looking at my shitty life and awful upbringing, it was a miracle I had a conscience at all, unlike Ray'~ Hendrix

This book blew me away. It’s not my normal read but R Linda’s books are awesome and she completely hoodwinked me into this book. I was scared, terrified and in love. I really couldn’t see how I could like a character like Hendrix but as his back story I’d filled in you can’t help but be heart broken for him.
There really isn’t much I can say without spoiling the plot you just have to read it. It is a completely unique story idea ( at least to me ) and it’s to beautifully written and exactly how you might imagine should you be in that situation.
There really is nothing this woman can’t do.

Long time follower, first time reader - and what a story to start with!

Twisted Love truly is that; a tale of twisted love. Hendrix has not had an easy life. His father is a nasty piece of work, and over the years, he's been grooming him to follow in his footsteps.
Lucy's life should've been more than it was. With her senator father and perfectly poised mother who only care about how they look to the public eye, she quickly decided to go it alone, studying and working to make ends meet.
When Hendrix meets Lucy, a plan is set in motion. A plan that will change their lives forever.

This is one of those stories that makes you want to yell and scream at a certain character. Such a vile man should never exist in this world, but the sad fact is, they do. I think R. Linda did a fantastic job of portraying such a diabolical character and the impact his actions would have on others.
That being said, she also created some strong characters who can overcome so much. Characters you can't help but hope that they can persevere and get through it. I guess she gives you hope that there's a happy ending.
She also somehow manages to make you fall for someone you probably shouldn't, but really, that's what it's all about, right? A love that's twisted.

First off, although there is a thread of romance in this book, it is primarily & predominately a disturbing, bleak & brutal exhausting look into the lives of people destroyed & tortured by a psychotic (my definition, not technical) heinous man.
The 4 main characters are:
Ray-- the mentally deranged sadist who wants the 'perfect family' & has a finite solution for all those who have failed
Hendrix-- Ray's son who has lived through Hell, physical abuse & agony as far back as he is able to recall
Kat-- Ray's latest 'wife' who balances on the razor blade of being 'perfect'
Lucy-- Freshly captured to be Hendrix' 'perfect' woman
At first as I was reading I couldn't understand why Hendrix didn't try to escape, stop Ray, report Ray; but as the story unfolded the reader realizes the horror & torture & pain & mental control Ray has is like a poisonous fog, you cannot grab hold of it or fight it but it constantly surrounds & envelops you until it's in every pore & breath you take.
Again, this story is horrific, there's constant physical & mental abuse & violence by a man not one of his 3 prisoners can reliably predict what will set him off. The writer does a stellar job creating a sense of agonizing claustrophobia, of the constant threat of physical abuse, of pitiful hope raised to be destroyed, of love attempting to blossom in a hellish environment.
I kept rooting for Lucy, Kat AND Hendrix to escape their evil (a COMPLETELY insufficient adjective) captor & I so hoped for their escape I didn't even worry about wondering if there was ANY way Lucy & Hendrix could have a HEA.
There are the tiniest rays of sunshine as the 3 prisoners do attempt, each in their own way, to support & help each other although there is pitifully little they are able to do.
So, as Ray continues to tighten his already beyond violent & oppressive grip, the reader is on tenterhooks wondering if the 3 will be able to escape Ray with their lives or are they are doomed to continue their 'perfect' performances until they fail?
This is an excellent book & writing but this makes it a dark, uber disturbing story that will impact you & is NOT for the faint of heart (IMO).

I came into this story thinking that it was going to be more of a dark love novel with a character with a "bad" backstory learning to love again. Boy, was I in for a surprise. This is more of a thriller than a "sexy" love story, but it was definitely worth the read.

Lucy is just living the normal life of a college student, but then Hendrix comes into her life. She thinks that he is cute and hopes that he might ask her out someday, but he does a lot more than that. He kidnaps her and takes her to his father's house, to live with their little "family." Ray, his father, is a psychopath. He has abused Thomas his whole life, and he is determined to make a perfect family. Hendrix has to go along with it, and now Lucy does too. Will they get out?

This book was dark, wow. Ray was definitely a great villain. Hendrix, I don't know what to think about him? He definitely has some problems, but I think that they will be explored more in future novels. I hope that this series does discuss the effects that all that abuse has on his future mental state. Nevertheless, the focus of this book was Ray.

Kat is also imperfect. She was trying to fend for herself and sort of keep Hendrix safe, but she was still really only worried about herself. I think that there could also be some secrets that she was hiding, but again, this might be explored more in future books.

I can't say too much about this book because it does have a lot of spoilers the further you go along, but it was definitely suspenseful. Lucy does try to fight back, but she ends up getting smart and finding different ways to make her situation better. For this story, the double POV really works, as it allows you to see things from Lucy's limited POV and Hendrix's POV where he knows everything that his father is capable of.

The book moved smoothly and was so addictive that I finished it all in one sitting! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a new thriller/mystery novel.

I received an advance copy of this novel, and this is my voluntary review.

Wow! Just wow! This read is unlike any of R. Linda's previous novels and dives deep into a deranged, dark and violent world. I wasn't sure what to expect but was certainly blown away! If you are looking for a really dark romance with trigger topics, pick up this book!

Twisted Love made me squirm, scream, gasp, cry, rage and tremble. What a whirlwind of emotions packed into one story. I couldn't help but feel so strongly for Hendrix. He was kind, devoted, caring and empathetic. A complete opposite of his lunatic father Ray. The entire book, I couldn't help but see his innocence shine through, just waiting to break free of the chains. He was just trying to end the long trail of death and had to do some pretty messed up things to make that happen.

Lucy was incredibly strong and fierce! As was Kat. Both women made this book what it was. Their relentless commitment to regaining their freedom helped them keep a strong head on their shoulders, despite the dire situation they were both surviving.

Some may not like how this book ends. Stockholm Syndrome (whether you truly believe that's what Lucy suffered from or not) was being forced down Lucy's throat by every professional she encountered. The ending of this read left me with more questions than answers. I was so pleased to see that a sequel will be coming for Hendrix and Lucy!

I was provided an ARC of this read from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have NEVER read a book that was so aptly named. This entire story was entirely TWISTED... I was absolutely hooked from the the beginning. It really was TWISTED, but in a crazy, mind numbing, what is going to happen next kind of way?!

This is a pretty psychological read, which was extremely enticing . I usually read more lighter books and just by looking at the title, blurb, and that it is a part of R. Linda's Stockholm Syndrome Series, you can tell that it will be none of those things. I am glad that that fact did not stop me!

All of the characters were extremely believable. This includes the good, the not necessarily good but not necessarily bad, and the bad. The plot blew my freaking mind, seriously R. Linda! I was blown away with the plot and while I have not read many "Stockholm Syndrome" romances, I could believe and see the story playing out even though it did seem like an abrupt stop at the end. I am already looking forward to the next installment!

I will warn you that this is a dark, gritty, and violent read, but it is worth it, I could NOT put it down!

This book will ask you the below questions and wonder if the world is strictly just black and white.

What is right?
What is wrong?
What is real?
What is love?

He stole everything from her, but she gave him her heart. Sometimes you find love with someone no one else understands.

Lucy is on her own. Going to school and working to make ends meet. Her dad's a senator and her mother the perfect politician's wife, but they are not a part of her life. Her parents are all about appearances. Lucy just wants to make it on her own and choose her own path.

Hendrix was the the guy she bumped into one day. Then he started showing up at her work. He was good looking and she wanted to get to know him better. Little did she know, he was about to change her life.

Hendrix lives with a madman. His father, Ray has tormented and tortured him his entire life. Like father, like son...but sometimes things are not always what they seem.

The author tells a story of living in a house of horrors and abuse. I do not want to give anything away. The story kept me enthralled and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. It evoked so many emotions; sadness, anger, hate, love, angst.

Sometimes love is twisted!

This book is so heavy, intense, complex that I'm left speechless. The story hooked me from the very beginning. What a truly great storyline; I loved everything about Hendrix and his struggle with his humanity and morality. You can’t help but be heart broken for him and what happened to him in his past. Oh Lucy! What an incredibly beautiful, strong and brave young woman. Fierce even!
This is a pretty psychological read, which was extremely enthralling . My usual reads tend to run toward lighter books and just by the title and blurb R. Linda's "Twisted Love" you can tell that it will be none of that, for which I am glad that that fact did not stop me from readingthis deliciously dark read! There really isn’t much I can say without spoiling the story. It is a completely unique, complex story and it’s so beautifully written and exactly how one might imagine things would be if you happened to be in that situation. I enjoyed reading this book, even the super dark and scary parts.

I don't usually read dark and twisted books like this and wasn't expecting to like this. Also this was my first R.Linda book and I wasn't disappointed. The book was easy to read and once I started I couldn't put it down,it kept me going till the end.

i found the synopsis and the book cover a little misguiding. The book is not entirely focused on romance, it talks more about what they had to go through with Ray.

This book took the subject in a different way and the twist was unexpected.
Give it a try if you like reading dark stuff and also if you want to try it for the first time.

This is a story about Lucy and Hendrix, how they meet and eventually form a bond that is unbreakable. The other two main characters are Kat and Ray, each bringing something very different to the story-line. The story is dark and there is a lot of fear and aggression that Lucy, Kat and Hendrix experience at the hands of Ray. The story is slow and there never really appears to be a time where it picks up speed, if you are looking for action, then this is not the novel for you! The fact that the author seems to be dragging out the story-line works well as it makes the experiences and the life that Lucy, Kat and Hendrix are having to live through and endure more horrifying. This is not your typical romance novel and just when you think you understand exactly how the story is going the author throws in a little twist too the plot. It’s well worth the read.

I have been in such a book slump for a while. I’m sick of reading the same thing over and over. This book was recommended to me so I took a chance on it. I’m not into Thrillers usually or anything that causes my mind to dwell on later. But this book was the exception.

I was enthralled right from chapter one. I read 60% in one sitting before needing to tear myself away for sleep. At points I wanted to read the book from between my fingers like a movie 😂

I don’t want to release any spoilers so will just say that I adored this book and it was a 5 star for me, right up until 80%.

I feel the ending really, really let this book down. The book was heading in a pretty clear direction the entire time, then at 80% it sort of lost its way and became something different. I didn’t really like the ending and could think of at least 4 different endings that would have fit this book perfectly. I actually wanted to drop this review to 3 stars because I disliked the ending so much, but didn’t because I loved and devoured the first 80%.

All in all a 4 star for me and I loved it :-)

Thanks to the author for ARC in exchange for honest review. This is one sick read for me, first time with R. Linda and she scares the shit out of me. What a brilliant story. How dark can the story go?

The story is dark, violent, a bit of thriller, a bit of rape, some abuse. I can never imagine how Hendrix be able to live like this, with a psychopath father who kidnaps girls to be his wife replacement.

While reading, goosebumps grow all over my body, as a reader, I am worried about them too. Ray is the biggest sick psychopath I’ve read so far. Your wife died and why would you keep finding the perfect replacement?

Definitely 4.8 stars from me, it’s rare to read something so intense. Every page makes me want to know more. Hendrix is a kind and loving person, Lucy is a headstrong woman. Both of them did their very best to survive through the worst. I really enjoyed this dark story, it is beyond dark to me. Must read if you love dark story.

I wasn't sure if I would love it or hate it, but I've loved all of R.Linda's other books so thought why not give it a try. It is much darker then any of R.Linda's other work. But a very good read!

I was gripped from the start and read it in one sitting! Such a good and interesting story line.

I absolutely loved the characters especially Hendrix! and the chemistry between the characters were great!

Roll on the next book in the series...

This is the first book in a new series from this extremely talented author. When Hendrix meets Lucy a plan is set in motion, which will change both of their lives. No spoilers; this is a story which deserves to be delved into totally blind, as you will not be disappointed! This is a well written flawless story, which is filled with emotion, action, violence, suspense, and is a dark, gritty, twisted, thrilling, and is an all round powerful read. I devoured this novel from the very beginning, and could not put it down until finished. I look forward to reading more from this talented author, and I highly recommend her work for all readers.

This genre is more like dark romance/dark psychological thriller.
My first thought after reading few pages, would be... Well that's easy.. to end the suffering, the Hero would just need to be a cold blooded killer and end his psychopath of father himself which happened but at the end. I guess this is a different story where the Hero was abused by his father... So he kinda a bit of afraid of him and he need a nudge or a motivation that can push him to end his father. That's where the Heroine came in.

I actually thought that this would be a series with different characters stories. But it seems like it is going to be a book 2 continuation of Hendrix and Lucy story. I guess that makes sense if we want to know how they are going to live after the tragedy/nightmare.
I hv mixed feeling about this... I would just prefer that this book should end with epilogue how both of them live their life after that.. rather than stuck with a bit of cliffhanger for book 2.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I truly enjoyed this book. This book is dark, twisted, screwed up, sad, but a great read. This book could be difficult to read and a trigger for some. Definitely not for the faint of heart. There were some repetition but I feel it was to enforce the goodness still present in Hendrix after all this experienced torture. He was also a victim after being forced to do unspeakable things. Love was also found in this dark and twisted life, which made it easier to finish reading.

I am still not sure though. I really didn't understand why hero couldn't have done much to stop what his father was doing..Anyway, I really want to read more about both. Bcz, there was not much about their love though. I want him to find his real parents & live the life of real family, wife & kid. I also want to see more of Hendrix & Lucy & also them with kate..
