Fifty years ago, the International Space Marine Corps (ISMC) fought and won a narrow victory against a vicious foe. Now, Fleet Transport 'Astral Plane' is transporting survivors of this battle when a garbled warning is received, followed by orders from the President of the United Nations of Terra. Her orders are Unconditional surrender, or die.
Abner Fortis and the other Space Marines on 'Astral Plane' aren't about to surrender, but what can two hundred aged ISMC veterans on an unarmed Fleet transport do against overwhelming hostile forces?
It's no coincidence their motto is DINLI. Do It, Not Like It.
P.A. Piatt was born and raised in western Pennsylvania. After his first attempt at college, he joined the Navy to see the world. He started writing as a hobby when he retired in 2005 and published his first novel in 2018.

All of his novels and various published short stories can be found on Amazon.
The tale of the heroic last stand is as old as our civilization, so you know what you are going to get with this book, but the key is whether the author can make you feel what the characters feel. Piatt is incredibly good at doing this, and you quickly find yourself unwilling to stop reading. The war in these pages is by no means clean or glorious, but the character of the men who fight it is thoroughly admirable. There is no whining or angst, merely determination, so Piatt is able to create an enjoyable story without being simplistic or dated. There are no more tales to be told of the Space Marines, but one hopes we will see a lot more of this author.
It was an excellent read, to short though..lol. am a retired sailor, the space marines were spot on along with the officers. all three books were great the hero at the end was sad but any marine worth his salt will tell you if you have to die , make it costly to the enemy and take as many as you can with you .
I liked this book after reading the prequel and it was awesome to see several old time marines still do their best to fight. Sad to hear how some of them passed by the actions of a traitor and we never learned why happened to that coward. Other questions too but it was still a good book
This is a good series and if you're inclined to read military sf, I recommend you read it.
I understand DINLI, what I didn't like was the oft response, "indeed". It felt like an inside joke I just didn't get. DINLI comes from the same military source as SNAFU. Our enlisted have a good grasp of reality.
Fun read; nothing better than a zero G spear charge! Loved the inspiration for this besides the likable characters the author has a reliable knack for in bringing to life. Well done!
A great read about heroes, the bond of brotherhood in combat, and fighting aliens! I have some nits to pick that keep me from giving it star number 5, but it is a great read. Piatt certainly knows how to ramp up the conflict for his characters. Go read it.
Yeh, more space opera, but I like space opera and Platt does it well.Good blend of character development and plot growth. Looking forward to more especially since Platt does not spin out one story into several books.
I truly enjoyed this semi stand alone novel. I’ve read the first four novels in the series detains the beginning. Now to wait for the rest. I have several friends and kinfolk who served in Army, Navy and the Marines. Never underestimate a Veteran.,
