Audiobook 1&2 review:
How is this a litrpg/harem? What it is , is a fantasy novel with no stats and it is just a confusing weird open-ended relationship. I mean if that is the case, Just say so. Just because they use VR doesn’t mean it should be classified as a Litrpg.
The character is [air quotes] strong and a total psycho one minute then weak as shit in the next scene. Lots of lucky happenings occur that allows the character to progress, not his skills , abilities or intelligence. He becomes the leader of a major group and the pants of his relationship but he is just forced into it all. He doesn’t even sounds like an MC. Especially, when the side characters are more interesting with their skills and story than the MC. Dave the knife is great example of a funny character with lots of amazing quotes, but ends up being put down by a very winey MC for being too evil. The MC is PLAYING an evil character that ends up fighting angels, so the MC motivation is just confusing.
For an MC he is meek. Really meek, where he is so hesitant to take any action or chance in anything unless he is forced to. He is a reactionary character that does no research and just pretends he knows what he is doing 90% of the time. He is always mentaly and physically tired and always feels bad for EVERYONE and plays the victim card all the god damn time. He plays the game not wanting to take any chances and is squeamish about the most stupidest thing, while he stabs people to death. He plays his the game as if it is a casual online card game or bejeweled, rather than a live action super cool rpg. I know i am ragging on the author, but come on. He created an amazing concept, an amazing world, and interesting tech concept , funny and interesting side characters but screws it up by creating an MC without substance. It is like creating the best mmorpg (diablo, eve online , star citizen, and star craft etc etc) and i am watching a let’s play by pee wee herman with his dick sticking out his child sized super bleached and stained tighy whitey. So much potential and he pee wee-ed all over it.
Here is the weird part; outside the game the MC is actually a decent sort who is responsible, a little socially awkward and all round nice guy. I actually liked parts where he is being him and not the virtual clueless walking mess. He even stands up for himself at work and takes no guff from his work colleagues or just everyday challenges. Once again, despite the flawed MC, there are lots of funny moments, characters and banter that was actually pretty fun.
