Rate this book
Wild Light is a stunning panoramic exploration of the Scottish landscape by photographer Craig Aitchison, winner of the inaugural Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition.

Produced over seven years and shot entirely using a traditional Hasselblad film camera, this remarkable body of work captures the essence of the Scottish wilderness through the seasons and portrays the Highlands and Islands at their most beautiful.

Featuring over eighty panoramas, this book celebrates the rich natural heritage, incredible geodiversity and varied landscape for which Scotland is internationally renowned. Among a glittering cast of many are the dramatic heights of Suilven, An Teallach and Aonach Eagach, and the otherworldly landscapes of the Lairig Ghru in the Cairngorms and Glen Etive.

Craig Aitchison’s Wild Light will delight anyone who treasures the Scottish mountain landscape.

I was given a copy of Colin Priors "Scotland, The Wild Places" for my eighteenth birthday and it has inspired me for a couple of decades of Scottish Adventures. With this wonderful book from Craig Aitchison I feel I will be inspired for another couple.

The world today seems to be flooded with images from Scotlands Mountains but this book is so much more than just another collection of photos from a digital camera. Aitchisons's has stuck with the traditional Hasselblad film camera for this work and the combination of skill and equipment really show a depth in the landscape that is still hard to match with a digital camera.

The book is beautifully laid out with the images taking centre stage and the text just big enough to read without crowding the page. The images range from classic images such as Buachaille Etive Mor or Sandwood bay to some interesting perspectives on things such as Foinaven, Arkle and the Summer Isles. This book will sit in my living room to be flicked through with a good cup of coffee for many years to come.

If you love mountains, indeed if you love beautiful places, this collections of pictures from across Scotland will stir your heart. This book truly captures what makes Scotland such a mesmerising place- the ever changing light, rugged and challenging landscape and rich culture and history. The pictures speak for themselves. This is a book to return to again and again. The pictures of magical places such as An Teallach and the beautiful North West will make you want to wrap up, get your boots on and get into the hills. This book is not a cliche or simply a collection of the usual locations, rather a labour of love and a reflection of the variety and beauty found in all corners of the best wee country in the world.
