She is a woman who loves a challenge, to chase the elusive and succeed. Living on the edge of the life's blade is the only way for Ruby.
After moving to the quaint-sounding town of Alluring, Ruby is sure she's going to die from boredom, unaware of the danger lurking in the shadows. When that danger reveals itself in the form of tall, blonde, and lethal -- to Ruby, it's game on. After tangling with the leader of the notorious motorcycle gang -- The Dark Angels -- Ruby quickly learns she is no longer in charge, ruffling her dominant feathers.
Take a ride with Rae and Ruby, the women from the thrilling biker series Kitten and learn how their relationship began. Sex, passion, motorcycles, and an undeniable, explosive chemistry that will leave you begging for more.
The Kitten series will always remain my shining star. Rae and her family is what got me into writing and what's kept me going. As I venture off towards new characters and storylines, one thing that will stay the same is the butch/femme dynamic. I have even dabbled with butch/soft butch non-binary characters. I love masculine women and everything about them, from their charm, chivalry, style and everything else in between.
This past spring I happily signed a contract with Painted Hearts Publishing for my new book, A Jade's Diamond, that will be released in the new year. I hope to continue working with the lgbtq publisher for more great stories I write.
I look forward to hearing your opinion toward my older books and my newer books that will be published in the near future.
Gods, Rae is hot! I'm a huge fan of butch, and Rae, being a badass motorcycle club leader, is perfect. When she turned up at Ruby's in her bike leathers, I'm sure my knees would have buckled if I wasn't lying down, lol. And this short story is so sexy! Love me some strapping! I'm moving right onto Kitten now... Can't wait to learn more about this turbulent twosome, and hopefully hear more about Rae's abs and biceps, haha!
This is a spin-off/prequel to the novel Kitten. It’s written exclusively from the POV of Ruby, who features in the Kitten series. It’s the story of how she met Rae, and how they end up in the unconventional relationship we see in Kitten onward.
I love the character of Ruby, and this story shines in how unique and fresh her voice is. This story reads like she’s sitting with me, telling me this story. This is what a first-person POV should be. She’s crass and sassy, but has a sensitive, introspective side that comes out from time to time. We don’t get Rae’s POV and it works so well because we see her through Ruby’s eyes and get enough clues through Ruby’s observations and actual adult communication.
One really interesting thing about this story, is how Dafoe approaches gender and butch-femme roles. Neither Rae nor Ruby “fit” perfectly into any role, they both show flexibility in actions and thoughts, and the relationship lets both of them explore their identity and sexuality. They aren’t perfect and it isn’t lovey-dovey even at the end. They challenge each other, butt heads and make mistakes. There are moments of anger and sweetness, and also moments of oooohhh my goodness, I shouldn’t be reading this in public!
It’s a fun, sassy, and hot read. The sex scenes are varied and spicy with real feelings.
The author’s style matures with every story I’ve read of hers. This one has a few issues, mostly ones that proofreading/editing could fix, but the depth and pacing, not to mention the refinement of the narrative style show that Dafoe is growing as a writer.
A highly enjoyable and sexy read that will leave your panties in a twist and your heart a-flutter.
My rating: 4.5 stars
I received this novel from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Ruby is a natural leader in life, and in sex, until she meets Rae, leader of The Dark Angels, a motorcycle club. Then everything changes. Two strong female characters who are each blown away on their first meeting. Excellent.
This short prequel to the story of Rae and Ruby really lets you get to know these characters deeper. Much deeper. These two incredibly strong women come together and the fireworks fly on many levels. Char Dafoe may be a newcomer but she just keeps delivering and getting stronger like her characters.
Diving into this little prequel, I wasn't sure what to expect. Books with the biker aesthetic aren’t usually my kind of thing, but I was pleasantly surprised. Ruby and Rae will suck you into their world and leave you wanting to know more and more about them—especially the swoon-worthy Rae. Aside from all the chemistry between the pair, my favorite part was how I could tell that the author loves these two. Sometimes an author just has a character because they need them, which shows, but this pair is written where I can tell they are loved. 5/5 would recommend giving this quick read a go.
Rae is the epitome of looks strong/scary on the outside and is nothing but a big softy on the inside. Love that type of butch representation. This was the second prequel I read to the Kitten series and it's a great place to start if you've never read anything in the series before.
It's the story of how Rae and Ruby meet after Ruby moves to the town of Alluring. This was a fast read for me and has plenty spice for the page count. Definitely worth the read.
After reading Kitten parts 1 and 2, I was excited to read the prequel and learning how two of my all time favorite characters came together. This book gives a very interesting, sweet, sizzling glimpse into the beginning of Ruby and Rae's relationship. I loved every moment of it!
Char creates an engaging story of Ruby and Rae meeting, falling in love, sort of, settling on best friends with benefits, and beginning to build a home and life together. Passion and strength of wills dance together at times awkwardly as Rae and Ruby find their feet in their friendship and life. It is sweet, sizzling, passionate, entertaining, and explosive.
This book is a prequel do the kitten series. Rae it’s a tough Dan Nelson sense woman who has a hard exterior with a warm heart. She meets Ruby and invite her to stay with her in her home. Ruby is very taken with Rae and their love includes lots of sex and drama. I recommend this book raw those who like a story about a butch and her loves.
I haven’t been able to read the other Kitten books but this one kid definitely a winner I look forward to the other books being republished so I can read the series from the beginning.
This was my first time reading anything by this author, and I really liked the story. The characters were well-drawn and believable. The plot was nicely structured and flowed very well, and the chemistry between the lead characters crackled from the page. I would have loved to have given a higher star rating but sadly, the grammar and punctuation were quite poor. However, it was a lovely introduction to the characters and I will look forward to reading more by Char Dafoe in future.
