Fanny Finch was born in United Kingdom but moved to Denver, Colorado when she was very young. She attended Washington University where she studied for several years and lives with her husband and their bulldog.
Upon leaving university, Fanny found a job as a proof reader for a small press. There, she honed her skills and also met and worked with author Abby Ayles, helping to polish her books to perfection.
But she is also an author in her own right and is working hard to become recognized as such as she starts to publish her own novels through her website.
Her genre is in the Historical Regency Romance category and if you like your reading material to be emotionally clean then you will be undoubtedly thrilled by the characters and scenarios Fanny develops.
When she has time to relax, Fanny enjoys listening to opera music and taking long walks in the outdoors. She writes almost every day as well and hopes to produce many more great books in the future.
I was very excited to read this book. Historical romance is my favourite genre and I have read hundreds of books in this genre over the years. I really wanted to like this book. Sadly, I was terribly disappointed and it had little to do with the plot of the story.
First the things I liked - The plot was intriguing and completely appropriate for the time period in which the story took place. The author did a decent job in creating the setting and the characters - I especially liked the Duke of Lox and the Duke of Rabney and Camilla. The story is definitely a clean sweet romance - no complaints there. There is nothing offensive or terribly violent or objectionable in the story’s content and I think that even the most sensitive reader would be comfortable reading this story.
Now for things I didn’t like - Even with the intriguing plot, the story felt flat and lacklustre and I believe this was mostly due to editing or a lack thereof. There was constant repetition throughout the novel - the same information was “revealed” in different chapters; even a conversation between Emma and Camilla was repeated almost word for word in three different chapters. This is annoying if it happens once, but to happen repeatedly throughout the story becomes incredibly tedious and hard to ignore. This repetition should have been caught by proofreaders or the editing staff and should have been addressed. Throughout the first third of the book, I found the writing to be awkward, choppy, almost simplistic and very scattered and made for very tiresome reading - again this is probably an editing issue. I do have to say that, thankfully, the writing did improve for the last two-thirds of the novel.
Lastly, I did not care for Emma at all. I think the author was trying to portray her as an unusual, independent woman for the period - an “original” - but it backfires and Emma comes across as skittish, wishy-washy, immature and not very likeable.
Based on the plot alone, this book had the potential to be an enjoyable and engaging read. But due to all of the issues - editing and otherwise - this book for me was an average read at best.
Emma has to marry before her father dies in order to secure her future. The Duke of Lox must marry to receive his inheritance. Can these two find love?
I did not get past the first quarter of this book, and getting even that far was tedious. The dialogue was stilted, and I couldn't' tell if the author was trying too be authentic to the period and failing, or if this was just a style choice.
Then, there were historical inaccuracies. Two dukes would not have hed employment, and neither would they have been known as businessmen. It would have been an insult to refer to them as such. And yet, Emma does so. A duke's daughter would know better, especially if the step-mother was really such a tyrant for propriety.
Emma herself was not likable at all, in my opinion.
I'd really hoped to like this as I am always looking for clean authors to follow. Based on the quality of this book, however, I don't think I will pick up this author again.
Miss Fanny Finch has done a most excellent job of bringing Regency England to life. The Season, love and conspiracy all in one fell swoop. I am looking forward to the next one.
Although I got irritated with the vacillating Lady Emma the story has merit. There are a couple mysteries, and true hero action.
The Duke of Corning, Emma Wentworth’s father, has been sick for several months and was quickly wasting away. As his illness progressed he had not been able to take care of his business as needed and had lost clients, deals and money because of it. The Duke was in considerable pain and knew he could not last much longer. And before he died he wanted his daughter to find a suitor by the end of the current season. But he was not pushing her to just find someone to marry but to find someone who would make her happy – someone to love and be loved by.
The Duke of Lox, Lord Nigel Baldwin, needs to meet a condition in his father’s will – he must be married by the time he is twenty-five or he will lose most of his inheritance. His father’s theory was that if Nigel did not have a family he would not need such a large amount.
Lady Emma met her cousin and best friend, Lady Camilla Fielding, at the ball. Neither young lady had a problem filling their dance cards. Camilla and Emma noticed two unfamiliar gentlemen making their way across the ball room, stopping now and then to speak with someone. The men approached them to introduce themselves: Lord Baldwin, Duke of Lox and his companion and friend, Lord Christian, Duke of Rabney.
Lady Emma Wentworth, although she likes the Duke of Lox more than other men, picks up on a word or comment or something she sees that she decides is a negative aspect of Lord Baldwin’s personality. Emma refuses to heed what her cousin/best friend says about her being wrong. She bounces back and forth how she thinks of Nigel – she cannot trust him because he only want a wife who is “obedient” like a slave; a quote her step-mother made to him that he made the mistake of tell Emma. But then Emma thinks the Duke of Lox was not like other men. This cynical attitude of Emma’s was irritating because it went on for most of the book regardless of all the “not like other men” things he said or did.
If Lord Baldwin does not inherit the money from his father what would happen to it?
Lord Archibald has danced with Lady Emma at balls the last three seasons. Why was he suddenly interested in marrying Emma?
Why was Lord Corning’s health declining so quickly?
Why was Lady Corning pushing Emma to marry Lord Archibald?
Lady Corning loves her husband, so why was keeping family and friends from him?
Will Lady Camilla and Lady Emma get to marry on the same day, or will Emma and Nigel be traveling?
I received this book as an ARC member for an honest review.
PLOT: Two young people of the ton are in urgent need of a mate and are hoping this season will provide one for them. An ill father, Lord Wentworth, tells his daughter Emma that she must pick a suitor and marry by or soon after the end of the season, as he knows he is dying. Baldwin, Duke of Lox, is also under pressure to marry or lose his inheritance by the end of the year. He and his friend Christian, Lord of Abney, are enjoying their first season with this group of society, as they had not found brides elsewhere, previously. With a sense of urgency in each, their mating dances begin. Enter: complications. An American cousin of Lord Abney has cast her bonnet for the Duke of Lox, and her presence casts doubt about the legitimacy of Baldwin’s intentions towards Emma—is he a rake with a string of ladies around the world, as some claim? Or is it a case of the forward American pushing herself onto an unwilling suitor? Furthermore, why is Emma’s step-mother so insistent that she marry Lord Archibald, someone she does not love and has no inheritance of his own to support her, let alone her step-sister, step-brothers and step-mother? As time passes, her step-mother’s insistence upon Lord Archibald increases despite the growing attention of the more promising prospect, the Duke of Lox, until Emma finds herself nearly engaged by her step-mother to Lord Archibald—why the insistence? Why the deceit? Why the nefarious means by which Emma is taken from her home in the middle of the night as her father seemed to be dying? CRITIQUE: The plot was interesting and the twists and turns kept me reading. I really appreciate the clean language and behavior of those in the story, and the HEA outcomes for 2 young couples. As noted by others, I found the ‘wishy-washy’ attitude Emma displayed towards Baldwin off-putting. The conversations lacked luster at times. Overall, there seemed some stiffness in the characters and story, not as lifelike as in other stories, in which the author submerses himself/herself as if living and experiencing the story along with the characters. That being said, I could not put the book down as it did capture my attention. Readers of all ages will enjoy this story, which will remind them of an ancient fairy tale.
Emma Wentworth had been told by her father, Aaron Michael Wentworth, Duke of Corning, that this season she had to find a suitor or even be married. The Duke was in failing health and she needed to find a man willing to take care of the family he would leave behind. But she wanted a man who would have meaningful discussions with her, and not try to stop her from her painting and gardening enjoyments. She wanted a kind and giving man like her father, not a controlling dictator. And she wanted love.
Nigel Baldwin, the Duke of Lox, has also come to the ball to find a wife. This is the last season he has left to marry or he will not receive his rightful inheritance, with his father convinced he wouldn’t need all that money if he had no family by the age of twenty-five.
At the ball, Emma and her cousin Camilla Fielding, daughter of Duke Fielding of Cooksey, also looking for suitors, saw two handsome men enter that neither of them knew. When the men finally approached, they introduced themselves as Lord Baldwin, Duke of Lox, and his closest companion, Lord Christian, Duke of Rabney. Both signed the ladies’ cards for a dance, significantly signing for the last dance of the evening which was the highlight of the ball. Dancing with Lord Baldwin was enjoyable, and he was impressed at how well Lady Emma engaged in conversation. But when he told her that her step-mother had asked him to seek her out, and had described her as ‘obedient’, her hopes fell. He was just like all the other men and not what she wanted. Would she push away a man who could love her? Would he lose his inheritance or be forced to move on to another woman? Was Lady Emma willing to marry the boring Earl that her step-mother was pushing on her? Was something else going on?
This was a nice, lengthy book with much going on. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. It did get a bit annoying to watch Lady Emma vacillate between interest in Lord Baldwin and conviction that he was like all other men and unacceptable. But soon she would have to make the right conclusion or face unhappiness. Grab your copy and follow the intrigue to see how it all plays out.
This is a very realistic book about Lady Emma Wentworth, daughter of the Duke of Corning and her suitor, Nigel Baldwin, the Duke of Lox. Emma meets Nigel at a ball. Somethings that Nigel says Emma assumes the worse. One minute she is warm to him and the next minute she is cold. Nigel has set his heart on Emma and does not understand her. It gets to the point where he thinks she does not care for him and he thinks of moving on. Emma keeps making assumptions and her cousin and best friend tell her that he is not like that. Emma relents and is determined to give Nigel the benefit of the doubt. Nigel is a very good man, honorable, respectful to everyone regardless of station. Emma sees this but somehow not convinced. After a while I was getting tired of reading about Emma's constantly second guessing Nigel's intention but I liked the story and continued reading. Nigel found Emma in compromising situations and he never judged her. Then Emma's life is endangered and Nigel enlists her father's help in finding her. This part of the story is very exciting as to who was behind Emma's kidnapping and why. You will never guess. I enjoyed reading this. I look forward to reading the extended epilogue
I enjoyed this sweet read the fact that Emma needs to marry before her father dies and she wants to marry for Love but she has so many doubts about the perfect husband it is doubtful she will find him. The Duke of Lox- Nigel needs to marry to receive his full inheritance. He has put his task off for several years but now he thinks he has found the right woman to be his wife. When these two meet sparks fly and he is fully on board but he says things that throw Emma off on what his true character really is like. To me this author captured exactly just what happens between men and women- man says something not meaning anything by it - Woman takes it the wrong way blows up or thinks to much and too long on a few choice words, yet never ask the man what he meant by saying what he said. Man sees that woman is upset yet ignores it and asks the best friend " hey what is wrong with her?" . There is a lot of this in this story but you also have to think of the time period that is wrote in as well. I enjoyed all the twists and turns the story took and the surprises that came about in the story. I for one would like to read Katheryn's story as well she is a wonderful sister to Emma. A very sweet story.
I received this book free from the author as part of the ARC team. This is my honest and voluntary review. I could not put this book down. Ms. Finch develops beautiful, sweet, and clean stories with intriguing characters. This book centers around the lovely Lady Emma Wentworth and her cousin Camilla meeting 2 handsome dukes during a ball. Both are attracted to these men. Camilla and Duke Rabney hit it off immediately. Lady Emma and the Duke of Lox also begin well, but a misunderstanding in conversation turns Emma's blood cold. The lady is driving him crazy with her hot and cold behavior, but Lox cannot stop thinking about her and wants her as his wife. Add in a dying father, a scheming countess, a creepy lord, and a kidnapping and you have a novel you cannot put down. I have read all of Ms. Finch's books and was delighted with each one. Her writing is smooth, her history accurate, her dialogue delightful. Each emotion is truly one most can recognize without fail. I highly recommend this, and all of Ms. Finch's books, to you. Let her sweep you away from the everyday world and take you to hers! Bravo!
Emma's father is sick and won't live much longer. He told his daughter she has to marry this season and she has to marry well. The only problem is every eligible man she knows bores her.
Nigel needs to marry. He shows up at a ball and meets Emma. He is attracted to her. He thinks she is attracted to him but her affections are on and off which confuses him.
Emma does not know what to think of Nigel. Sometimes she thinks he does not love her. Will Emma marry before loosing her father? Can she convince herself Nigel loves her? Will Nigel be able to convince Emma he loves her before it's too late for both of them?
I absolutely loved this book. I loved Emma right away. I did not like Nigel the first time I was introduced to him, but he grew on me quickly. However, in this time period, men were not allowed to introduce themselves to women they did not know. Someone, who knew both of them, had to introduce them.
Ms Finch is a gifted writer and she has a winner with this one.
I was given a copy of this book and this is my true and honest opinion.
Emma Wentworth was the daughter of a duke, he was very ill and wanted her settled before he died, so she needed to marry this season. Camilla Fielding was her cousin and best friend, she also was the daughter of a duke. They went to a ball and met two very handsome men, Lord Nigel Baldwin, the Duke of Lox and Lord Christian, the Duke of Rabney. The dukes were in the same circumstances, they needed a wife before their twenty-fifth birthday or they would lose a good portion of their inheritance. They were the best of friends and as close as brothers. I loved the story. It had action, kidnapping, nefarious doings, lots of dancing and misunderstandings between Emma and the Duke of Lox. The characters were well formed. The storyline was well written and moved smoothly. The author gained my attention and kept it until the end. I very highly recommend this book for all ages. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
Mrs. Finch concocted a lovely story with interesting characters. It mainly involves the two main characters Emma and the Duke of Lox. I wasn't fond of Emma's character at first.I did not like her wishy washy ways ( which was mentioned in the story) but her character did evolve as the story progressed. I don't want to give too much away but This story has a little bit of everything misunderstanding, jealousy, ill father, shady stepmother, intrigue, and a damsel in distress with a hero to save the day. There was a few things I would have liked to have a better or more in depth story line or at least a better understanding of what happened with the stepmother and Lord Archibald. Also I would like to know more about Emma's sister Katherine maybe she'll get her own story. You get invested in a story and want to know more of the backgrounds on the characters and their HEA. Overall it was a good read I would recommend it.
“like engaging characters, heart-wrenching twists and turns, and lots of romance, then you’ll love ‘A Lady's Choice!’” That’s what the publisher’s blurb promised, and I love Regency Romance, and have consistently enjoyed this author’s books so I could not resist the temptation to get it.
Then I grew afraid.
What if it wasn’t all that good? I mean I didn’t even really read the description.
Then I actually read the book.
Glory Be was I relieved. Emma and Nigel’s story is everything promised by the blurb and more. It’s totally fun. Well written (no surprise there) and with a cast of characters I just loved. Happily I can report this is a real winner. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.
ONE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING READ!!! Wow! Sit back and enjoy this exciting, action packed, fast paced, nailbiting, pulse racing, heart pounding, page turning bombshell that captivates from the first paragraph. Add in all the twists and turns, bickering back and forth, misunstandings, vengeance, hatred, spiteful, backstabbing and jealousy you are in for one incredible experience. The drama, suspense and danger build with betrayal thrown into the mix adds unexpected surprises that really sinks that hook deep. The scenes are so graphically detailed it really pulls this magnificent read together beautifully. The characters and their personalities are unique with qualities that balance out as they play off one another perfectly. Fanny did an excellent job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job Fanny, thanks for sharing.
A Lady’s Choice is a sweet, clean Regency romance about a pair of close cousins and their respective suitors. I mostly enjoyed the pleasant read, but felt like the titular lady’s indecisiveness causes the story to drag a bit.
Alas (minor spoiler alert) the adventures of the ending, while entertaining, got a little ridiculous. I had found myself far more interested throughout the book in Emma’s other suitor then in her love interest, and I was disappointed in what became of him. It was kind of like in Frozen, when Hans turns into a villain after he’s such a nice guy until that point. Not every choice is black and white, right or wrong, good or evil. Sometime he’s a nice guy, just not the right guy. I had hoped he’d get his own happily ever after in a later story, but that seems rather unlikely now.
This was a really good and entertaining regency novel. Emma has to find a husband this season before her father dies or her stepmother will match her with the creepy Lord Archibald! Happily her beloved cousin Camille is also looking for a husband! When they are both courted by best friends they couldn’t be happier. Lord Archibald won’t take no for an answer and engages in a devious plan with the wicked stepmother. This book had it all romance, adventure and plenty of humor. I received this book in exchange for an honest review! This is an honest review! I love this story and this author! I look forward to reading her next book!
Lady Emma and Camilla are cousins who are also best friends. Emma's father Duke of Corning, is ill and not expected to last much longer, and Emma has been told she must marry by this seasons end. As Emma and Camilla search for suitable gentlemen in the seasons Ton, they meet 2 Dukes who are also best friends, Christian and Baldwin, Dukes of Rabney and Duke of Lox. The story follows the loves that grow between Christian, and Camilla, and Emma and Baldwin, and more importantly the hurdles, and obstacles they must overcome. Of course there are a few bad "guys and Gals in the mix which will keep you guessing till the end. A very enjoyable story.
Lady Emma WentWorth knew there was no way she is going to settle for arrangements to be married to Lord Archibald. There was no document that would make her do it.But, her stepmother, Duchess of Corning had a reason or secret why she wanted this to happen? She had become very suspicious and devious! lately. Emma had already given her heart to that Handsome Duke of Lox.He needed to choose a wife before the end of the year or he would lose his inheritance.Emma's father is near death in the middle of all this happening. He loves her so and only wants her to be married and be Happy. Well ! Fanny Finch!! I must say I did not expect this ending. You Totally Surprised Me ! A Definite Must Read!!!
I enjoyed this historical regency romance I’m used to stories these days having hot and heavy sex scenes and this one doesn’t and that’s a nice change of pace for a story. Lady Emma’s father is sick and he told her to marry before the season is done and she needs to marry a man who has the money to look after her family. The Duke of Lox Nigel Baldwin is given his last chance to marry before he loses his inheritance, he meets Emma at a ball and they are both attracted to each other but because of the things he says Emma wonders wether he will make a good husband or not. A great story and I enjoyed it immensely and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet Regency romance. The title says it - it is the lady's choice. She is young and sensitive and over thinks things but she makes for an interesting story! The characters are great. They are either very good or very bad. This book has all of the reasons we love a good Regency romance and adds in the intrigue and an evil twist and surprise ending. There is also a lot of love between Emma and the other characters, such as her step-sister, her cousin, her father. This book has it all. With each book Ms. Finch seems to get better at her craft. I can't wait to read her next book! I recommend A Lady's Choice - a book you just have to read!
Two handsome Dukes for two lovely ladies is the theme of this well written sweet romance. Lady Emma Wentworth is not your typical "society lady", her antics with her cousin Lady Camilla had me laughing. The plot had plenty of intrigue-with an ailing Father Lady Emma must marry before the end of the season. a conniving Step Mother, plenty of assumptions and misunderstandings on Emma's part regarding the Duke she falling in love with. A real page turner. with excellent descriptions of the balls and the rules of society at the time. I highly recommend this to those who love Regency romances
I can't believe I forced myself to complete this story
The premise was good, a repectable Lady must wed by the end of the London Season. A kind Duke must wed before his upcoming birthday or lose the bulk of his inheritance. A wicked stepmother, a kind yet ailing father. However, the writing style was poor, uninspired. A weak heroine didn't help the plotline at all. In fact, my favorite character was clearheaded, capable cousin and BFF Camille. I wouldn't be reading more from this author.
I recieved this GREAT book free and I loved it dearly. This is a story of a young lady that is being forced to marry this season. HER father appears to be dying and she needs to get married before he passes away or they risk LOOSING everything. She is perused by one young man she wants as a friend but nothing more. Another Lord is persueing her cousin and they are getting along fine.
Emma must marry this season as her father is very ill. She must be married before he passes away. Will she find someone? She meets Nigel, Duke of Lox at a ball. Could he be the one? He also must marry or lose his inheritance. There are misunderstandings between the two. This is a well thought out and well written story. An enjoyable read with adventure, mystery, suspense, romance. Twists and turns to keep you turning pages. I recommend it.
A Lady's Choice, by Fanny Finch. A little too sweet and clean for my liking. It's a nice story but for my taste too much pondering on will she/won't she fall in love with the Duke of Lox. I liked the two heroines Camilla and Emma, but Emma's constant on again/off again shuffling over the Duke of Lox's affections drove me nuts. Sorry, but not enough action for me and too much introspection over marriage.
Where to start? An extremely long winded and poor in continuity effort . Emma is extremely annoying. Whimpering one minute and misconstruing the next. The Duke of Lox needs the patience of a saint. And how many times does he need to be referred to as "the Duke of Lox?" Very tedious! The story could have been half as long and in being so twice as good. It was thoroughly predictable in its plot a very disappointing read. Not reading any more from this author.
A sweet romance story between the main couple Emma and Baldwin as well as the side romance between Camille and Christian. Emma and Baldwin has many obstacles to overcome which gave the chance to show the development of the characters, as well as some quite unexpected plot twists. I did feel as if some of those obstacles were only because of how daft Emma was being portrayed which did get a bit annoying. Overall a lovely story and a good read.
4.5* Pressure to marry This was a sweet romance with a touch of yearning and suspense. Emma and the Duke of Lox both need to marry this season but for different reasons. The ups and downs of female perceptions and feelings made it challenging for true connections to grow between this couple. With revelations at the end, it was nice to see things resolved.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily sharing my honest review.
What a beautiful story this is. It is well written and quite interesting. Two close cousins meet two best friends. Each cousin is the daughter of a duke, each friend is a duke. Two of the four are immediately attracted to each other to the point of love. The other two make the story.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I only intended to read a few chapters before bedtime but here I am at 1:00am because I couldn't put it down. There are so many elements and characters in this story I don't know where to start. Let me just say you will not regret the time invested in this book. 🤗
