Shale River #1 part 1 of 4

His Prairie Omega, Book 1

Rate this book
Kyle Daniels vows never to return to Shale River, not after his best friend Tyler died in the wildfires last year. When his father gets ill, Kyle has no choice but to return home to face his painful memories. Kyle's homecoming is stained by bad blood: he comes face to face with a former friend and the man whom he blames for Tyler's death. Jake. A rugged smoke jumper who has Alpha written across his chiseled features. Kyle wants nothing to do with the handsome firefighter, but upon seeing him after so long his heart tells him something very different.

It had been a hard year for Jake Fournier. He lost his friend and fellow firefighter Tyler to the blazes that consumed the countryside. Shortly after, his childhood crush Kyle left town for good. Jake hears that the Omega is heading back into town to take care of family and his wounded heart skips a beat at this one, last chance to reconnect. How will the Alpha approach his former friend? What will the heartbroken man say to the only Omega that he'd ever truly desired?

His Prairie Omega is the first serial novella about the Alpha Jake and his Omega Kyle set in Shale River. This re-release contains an enemies-to-lovers story line, scenes of love and lust between and Alpha/Omega couple, pregnancy risk, non-shifter mpreg in an Omegaverse world, and handsome country gentlemen in cowboy hats and tight jeans working their hardest for a happy ending.

This book ended with the cliffhanger, not that I care about the cliffy. It's the story itself
The MCs's story had just started at 85 mark, because before that, it's the story about one MC's sister. The main story of this installment was both MC met at the bar, saw each other, then they talked.
That was it. Pissed level from 1 - 10? It's 12😤

This is the first book in The Shale River Series. For a book that is supposed to be about 2 people you don’t even meet Jake until half way through the last chapter. That’s a problem for me. And then basically without any thought Kyle caves to Jake another problem for me. This is a short book and I think that it would have benefited greatly by extending it and adding more story to it. I was very disappointed in this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Okay, so this story wasn’t really for me and it completely left the ending for the next book without even a HFN and I just think it should have had at least some sort of warning about a cliffhanger. Kyle pretty much ran away when his best friend died and blames their other friend for not saving him.

The writing within the story seemed very jumpy to me and I didn’t feel as if I was actually seeing the characters true emotions. And I didn’t really appreciate the continued visuals given for Kyle’s sister and the open/dirty way everyone talked about it or accepted it. I feel as if I need to read the next book to see if Kyle and Jake can actually get past what happened.

I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.

I read about 15% before I threw in the towel.

* Sombre vs Somber in two different chapters - pick one
* Sudden switch from past tense to present tense - pick one
* writing style was awful
* detailed whacking off sessions bc some Alpha cop stopped MC and his sister - gratuitous scenes don't make this a good book

It's 2023. I will not waste precious time on bad books.

YMMV.

Seriously?!

This is a sorry excuse for even an outline!
The only excuse I can imagine is stupidity!
I will never read another "supposed book" by this nom de plume.
Just in case you are still considering downloading this let me be clear.... This is not a book. It is at most an advertisement for the "next segment". It takes place in a barely understandable universe. No I take that back, a totally ununderstandable universe.
You're welcome if you choose to pass on this one and I told you so in advance if you do.

Prairie omega

This book was slow and I didn’t feel a connection with the characters. I was willing to stick it out a while longer and hope , but the book ended. Felt like reading an uninspired chapter. Sorry

His Prairie Omega by Mackenzie Wilde, is the first book in the Shale River series. It is the re-release of the omega-verse, non-shifter mpreg novella. So be prepared for a quick fun read with a hot Alpha, sexy omega, heats, and a cliffhanger. The story of Jake and Kyle is to continue with book two. Kyle doesn't want to return to Shale River, he vowed he would not go back. But when he is informed his father suffered a health scare, he finds himself back in his hometown and facing a reunion to the man he wants nothing to do with - except that his body wants everything to do with Jake.  And Jake, he has longed for the omega for years. Can they forget the past and find a future? Oh yeah, this one has steam and humor. I love the interactions between the characters. The characters are great and funny.  Definitely a fun read and can not wait to read the rest of the series.

I received this book as an advanced reader's copy and voluntarily am leaving my honest review and recommendation

This is a sweet if some what confusing novella sized start to a continuing series so each book will end on a sort of cliffhanger. It is an Alpha/Omega, non-shifter MPreg story about second chances.

I say confusing because Omega Kyle returns from the city, a year after having left town when one of his two Alpha friends died in a wildfire, he blames the other one Jake, but why is not disclosed in this book there is alot of anamosity towards Jake from Kyle with alot of push me pull me feelings, so when they finally see each other at the bar and talk i was expecting sparks, so it was surpising even Jake doesn't know why Kyle left, then Kyle apologises and thats where the book ends.
There is alot more in the book, world building, description, And interesting secondary characters which help bring the story to life. Which is what makes me want to continue reading the others in the series so this is a very good start, we will have to see what comes next.

This is a quick read and the first installment of the series.
It gives us an introduction to our MC's, Kyle and Tyler, as well as secondary characters from the small town of Shale River.
It took me a little while to get into the story but once things gained traction, more character interaction, I was eager to find out where things were heading.
One point I found a bit odd was the lengths that the dad took to get Kyle back to his home town and it wasn't really dealt with but the family were back on track by the next day.
This will be a book where I would say you have to give it until book 2 or 3 for the story to be really involving and emotional. I'm awaiting book 2 and looking forward to seeing where things head.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review

I was hooked on the summary but left disappointed, confused about this universe where Mpreg is possible, and frustrated. Spends most of the time focused on Jess (his sister and her relationships), and his relationship with his dad.
I have quite a few questions about Tyler, Jake, and Kyle but this book doesn't answer any of them. In fact, we don't even meet Jake until half way through the last chapter. I'm not even going to bother finding the rest of this, i'm just done. There was no warning about the cliffhanger or nothing.

His Prairie Omega

I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked how a father would do almost anything to get his family back together. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Wondering if it is sold as a bundle so that it could be read all at once. Can’t wait to read if Kyle has his baby first or they have them at the same time. Yes I would recommend this book to family and friends.

Not a whole story, just ends as they walk out of the bar n

It's not a whole story, beginning, middle, and end, it's one book chopped into four pieces to get as much money as possible from readers. Such an unfair practice, author should be ashamed.

I know it was a short review of the book but I just wish it was much longer because it was getting so good and I didn't want to stop reading it. I can't wait to get the full book because it was getting really good and I really didn't want to stop reading.

Amazing character development. Drawn out plot. More to the book than just sex. But the sex there is REALLY well written. One of the best solo sex scenes I've read. OMG! So deliciously steamy!
ONE THING I would change... Jake calls Kyle 'bud' 2-3 times, EVERY time they talk.

It is okay

It is hard for me to get into a good grove with extremely short stories like this. I like the characters. It is just frustrating to read short stories like this one. The plot is good.

It's been a while but I'm re-reading this. I think this was the first MPREG novel I wrote.

I still like the story, the family banter between the two twins.
The "old Daniels" acting like a pimp.

I was just getting into this story when it ended. Now I know that there's at least 3 more books and it's got me wanting to get the rest. 😮

Not really a novel. Just an introduction to set up the rest of the series... But I believe it was book 1 that had the HOTTEST solo scene I've ever read! OMG! Deliciousness!

This felt like all the story got through was the sister's perspective, only the last few pages were about Kyle and Jake, it didn't hook me enough to want to continue with the rest of the books

Unfortunately, this was not what I was hoping for when I snagged this novella. From the cover, I thought this was going to be an enemies to lovers story that would lead to rekindling romance and unexpectedly starting a family but instead there was...not much. A lot of A/B/O novellas tend to be extremely past faced and to the point, so when this took a more leisurely approach it was a nice change of pace that eventually became tedious. While I can appreciate the attention to detailed storytelling - and it is well written to be sure - I wish that any substantial romantic progress had been made. Apparently, this story used to be one conclusive novel prior to being split into a series, which is disappointing since almost nothing happens in this first installment. There's some bare essentials - unresolved tension, undeniable chemistry, the works - but when 80% of the book goes by and there isn't a hint of face-to-face romance, it's tough to justify getting the next book when there was no satisfaction in the first.

Can you go home again?

Can you go home again and start over? Can an Alpha and an Omega still be friends after hurt feelings?
