“No Wedding For Old Men” by Wendy Delaney is her best to date!
The returning characters and of course Dukes Cafe just warms the cockles of your heart. When virtually walking into Dukes, you can almost smell the coffee and pie & hear the latest gossip.
When widower Ted Skerrett slips and falls it just sets Charmaine’s senses on overdrive. Does she smell a rat? Is it an accident, suicide or murder?
Char is preparing for her moms upcoming wedding. Let’s keep in mind... her mom is a diva and drama queen. Chars boyfriend Steve is of course in the midst of this drama.
Will the wedding prevent Charmaine from following leads to solve this mystery? Of course not!
There’s a twist at the end that I will keep to myself. Let’s face it... if I told you it would be a spoiler. If you care to find out, I suggest you head to your nearest bookstore and purchase your copy ASAP.
Once you receive your copy , get yourself a cup of coffee or tea and make yourself cozy for this delightful cozy.

Best One Yet!

I’m pretty sure on my last review in this series I said it was the best one. I lied. This is the best one yet! This series really does keep getting better and better. Char suspects foul play when a recent widower dies. She follows the clues until she gets her answer! Wendy Delaney has created a cast of characters that I can’t get enough of. And a diner that I’d love to visit!

Loved it

Charmaine is back at it again. This time she’s making a case even after it’s closed. While she searches for answers about the recently departed she deals with the impending wedding of her mother and insecurities about her growing feelings for Steve. Are they unfounded? What really happened in this accidental death? Pick up your copy and find out. If you’re a fan of the series like I am you’re gonna love the ending.

Good read

Love it. The characters in this book are quirky, funny, down to earth and very real. Charmaine is her nosey self, and Steve just tried to keep up and hang in there. Grandma and the gang at Duke's are great. Highly recommend.

One of the last times I get to pull out the 2021 tags (as I read more than half of the book before 2022 started). It's always fun to get back into this world (especially when Charmaine's mother is less of a focus, which is surprisingly true of this one, despite her ). I do find myself surprisingly disturbed, as the series goes on, by Charmaine's relationship, which, to me, seems too built around ; I wonder if that's why the author has . It also like that, after the case was solved, .

I absolutely love Wendy Delaney's Working Stiffs Mystery series, and I think No Wedding For Old Men may be her best yet. Charmaine Digby is enjoying life with hunky boyfriend Steve and managing to keep her diva mom from spinning out of control as her wedding approaches, but then the apparent suicide of a recently widowed gentleman sets all her crime-solving senses on high alert. As she questions individuals connected to the victim, hidden romances and family greed and drama are revealed. Finally, one line of questioning leads to an unexpected murderer. Char's mom is ready to walk down the aisle when Steve throws in an "I love you" out of the clear blue, leaving both Char and Delaney's readers wondering what comes next. I read this book in one setting - just couldn't put it down!

It's great to be back with Char, her family and friends. One step into Duke's Diner and I'm ready for coffee, pie and listening. The latest gossip is about Ted Skerrett, a recent widower. Char's loveable drama queen mother has moved back to town and occasionally driving her crazy. Of course, there's also a mystery in here that Char really wants to solve. This is a great cozy mystery. I especially love cozies that make me laugh and this fits the bill. Definitely recommended reading!

Taking the plunge

Murder? Or is it? Char is sure there's more to the death of an elderly gentleman than an accident, and she's determined to get to the bottom of it. Fortunately, she has her "sources" at her great uncle's diner. Lots of twists keep you guessing until the very end ... and leave you ready for the next book.

Another mystery solved in Port Merritt

It's always interesting to visit Char and the gang in Port Merritt. You never know what to expect and the story keeps you guessing until the very end. Throw in Marieta's melodramatics and the relationship between Char and Steve and you've got a great humorous cozy mystery book.

Good story

I appreciated the twists in this plot. Some of the subplots are a bit tired, but I am hopeful for some growth...thisnshowed a little more than the last installment. I just really would like to see the protagonist reach her potential.

Poor chow mein has a hunch. Everybody thinks it was an accident. But she doesn't believe it.
