Rate this book
With over twenty fires ranging in the North Carolina mountains, how does an emergency response network pushed to the breaking point respond to a fire threatening to devour the mountain communities of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Shumont and Bat Cave? Annie Simms, a volunteer firefighter and biologist striving to stave off bat extinction, becomes embroiled in the fight against The Party Rock Fire that started November 5, 2016 and initiated the largest request for mutual aid the state had ever seen. Woven throughout this tale of two firefighters in love, yet, torn apart by swirling suspicions and mistrust, is the story of a family struggling with its past in the frightening present.

Contemporary fiction writer, Rose Senehi, is noted for weaving historical data into her romantic thrillers. FALLING OFF A CLIFF is a story of two women a generation apart and from two different worlds who are driven by passion to heal no matter what dangers they have to face. In the 1920s, Lula Mae clings to a doctor woman as they gallop horseback all over the steep, harsh Blue Ridge Mountains. In the 60s, Nurse Holly travels the same mountain paths to reach the ill and search for the mother she's never known. CATCHING FIRE, awarded the 2019 Historical Book Award by the NC Society of Historians, Inc., tells of the heroism displayed by hundreds of firefighters to extinguish the horrific Party Rock Fire that raged through the mountains surrounding Lake Lure, NC. Woven throughout this tale of two firefighters in love, yet, torn apart by swirling suspicions and mistrust, is the story of a family struggling with its past in the frightening present. CAROLINA BELLE, A Love Story, is her eighth novel and takes place in an apple orchard in Hendersonville, NC. Read this novel, and you'll never look at an apple the same way again. Among her seven "stand-alone" novels that take place in the Southern Blue Ridge are "Dancing on Rocks," winner of the 2014 Indi-Reader Discovery Award for Popular Fiction, "Render Unto the Valley," awarded the 2012 IPPY Gold Medal for Fiction--Southeast., "In the Shadows of Chimney Rock", a finalist for the SIBA 2009 Book of the Year Award, and "The Wind in the Woods", a finalist for the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Award. All of her novels are part family saga, part mystery, and part love story.

Excellent Read!!

I have never read a more detailed book of something that happened near me! This Author captured the Community Spirit that shows how caring the People of Hickory Nut Gorge, NC are to their neighbors! She wove a beautiful Romance around the horror of the fire very nicely. I have Read most of Roses books and find them historically correct and a nice romance thrown in for excitement. Excellent Book, can’t wait for her next creation.
Thank you Rose for the telling of a story that was overwhelming. Harriett

Fascinating read

As terrified as I am of fire , I could not stop reading this novel. I was totally fascinated by all the information concerning how firefighters go about fighting wild fires.
I have read all of Senehi's novels, and look forward to her next one.

Good story weaving in the back ground of all the fire fighting systems which made the book a great read. Gained a greater respect for all involved including the number of volunteers who kept the fire fighting efforts moving forward for almost 2 solid weeks. I highly recommend it!

Based on a true Forest Fire

Based on the forest fire in North Carolina that pulled firefighters from all over the US in 2016. Interesting history with a family's personal story woven in. This was a book I won from Goodreads!

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. I started off with the wrong view of this book. I believed it would be a romance with a bit of history. I must say I was wrong. My family is from just west of the North Carolina area in this story. I was extremely interested in the story of the Party Fire. The details of how the fire functions along with the cooperation between the local, state and federal governments to put out the fire along with the help from citizens was an educating and enjoyable read. I encourage everyone to read this wonderful book.
