Reasons why I needed to get away from that cold-hearted billionaire:
Reason #1: He was unbelievably uptight.

They dated in high school and broke up ( apparently because of him), he was focused more on his career and chose it over Dani, h is the love of his life but the first chance he gets he marries another woman ( who’s a mess) and has a daughter with her. Shows how great his love for her was.
They meet after ten years. Though they were both heartbroken after their breakup and couldn’t get over one another, the next thing you know is they are chatting, drinking and making out on the dance floor like they were friends who reconnected not exes who got their hearts broken and in a way hated each other.
Within a few days I luvs are exchanged. This story is underdeveloped and lacks any growth or connection between characters.
Cherry on top HORRIBLE NARRATION. So horrible I have no words for it.

A lot of fluff without a lot of details. Technically a
Second chance novel, but it’s more like instalove. Both parties hating each other because of their high school break up but are back to saying “I love you” within days of seeing each other after a 10 year break. And for some reason this author went extra hard with the tropes... Single dad, Billionaire, Second chance etc. But none of these things are explained well at all. There is zero explanation for how this rigid planner who’s was heartbroken and still in love with his high school girlfriend somehow immediately met someone (and becomes serious enough about them to marry them). Not to mention the woman was a complete train wreck with a history of DUI’s. If you do the math of meeting in college but their daughter only being 3 years old, it means that they were together for 5-7 years before having a child... That makes zero sense to me. His love was so great for Dani that he immediately fell back in love with her, but he threw her aside after high school and married the first chick he was serious about. It just doesn’t add up. Also, as a woman I laughed at the quickness of their makeup conversation. No woman is that damaged about a breakup but agrees to forgive and forget in a literal 2 minute conversation! Lazy writing

Okay this book is still just bugging me..
Zander was a total douche the first few chapters of this book, and judging from his thoughts vs his actions is a psycho.
He thinks he is god’s gift to the world, and that anyone who isn’t him is a loser. He didn’t want to wear expensive clothes when meeting one of his best friends at the club because he would be around losers and they would probably ruin his nice clothes, acting like they are children who throw food.. seriously??. Are you fkcing serious? He mentions all of this and then in the next breathe is telling Dani about how he is one of the few companies that gives convicted criminals jobs after they are released… Urrrmmm how fking confused are you?? People who aren’t you are losers, but you hire people who have been to jail? This whole thing was a cluster. Dani and Zander broke each other’s hearts and rather than any build up towards a relationship they jump right back into bed and into a relationship. There was no build up, there was relaly no story. This could have been a good story.

Wonderful story about Dani and Zander that are getting second chance for their love from high school.
I love to read stories that gets second chance and this one was just what I needed to complete my day off.
I simply enjoyed reading, characters are well built and story "forced" me to turn the pages just to see what will be in the next one...

Poorly executed
Way too much narrative, revealing character’s thoughts, feelings, memories, etc., and too little actual conversation, makes for a boring story.
Just a few chapters in, I found myself too bored to continue. There was nothing to hold my interest, nothing to draw me in, or to make me want to continue reading.
I can’t say it doesn’t get better. I can say it didn’t get better fast enough for me to keep reading.

I think it is funny how i get to knowing an author suddenly then i read a bunch of their reads ... I am this moment reading Summer's Christmas read ... "His Candy Cane" (i'll let ya know about that one very very soon.) second chance office love story, use 2 date in high school, humorous moments, love that!! great chemistry between Zander (love that name!) & Dani! must read. love the cover. ( ;

From young love, to separation then an unlikely job at his company.
Lance and Danielle fell in love at such a very young age. Life takes them in separate directions but neither forgetting their first love.
Lance worked hard to build up a company from the ground up. As an adult, he has a daughter to take care of because his ex-wife is incapable of staying out of legal trouble. He lives for his baby girl but rules his company with an iron hand. His company has it's own story. His mother helps in taking care of her grandchild. She is a character to admire and love. She doesn't let Lance get away with things.
Danielle's brother Scott still lives in New York where they grew up. He is turning thirty years old and throws himself a party and invites his best friend Lance to it. Danielle just graduated from Berkeley with her Master's degree. She's moving back to New York to try and find a job. Scott has her show up at his party and she sees Lance for the first time since they broke up.
Now the good times start between Lance and Danielle. Yes, they end up drinking too much and doing some dancing and Scott gets her a job at Lance's company. They each go back to their own homes and don't remember exactly what all happened the next day. Danielle is excited she has a job thinking she'll be doing what her degree is in. She is going to get a wake up call through out the book.
Lance is like a dictator at his company. You can't help but feel sorry for his employees but also laugh and find it interesting at the things that go on with them.
Evie, Lance's mother is such a character in her own right along with his sweet little girl Alyssa.
This story is a great second chance romance but it's not an easy one for the characters. Lance is committed in never letting Danielle go but she is have trouble putting herself into it completely.
Loved this book. The characters grab you into their story and you feel the emotions they experience.
Definitely recommend. Grab this book.

A Must Read!
Summer Brooks has done it again. The story of Zander and Danielle was so beautifully written and really resonated with me. They're high-school sweethearts whose breakup shattered both of their lives, while each thinking that the other didn't care enough to make the effort, but just happen to re-discover one another later in life. Danielle returns to her hometown of New York City from doing her Masters at Berkeley in California and runs into Zander that same night while attending her brother's birthday party. Zander, a single father, gets roped into attending his best friend Scott's birthday at a club, which is totally not his scene. When he sees Danielle for the first time since their epic high-school breakup, he tries to drown his anxiety in alcohol, which leads to him drunkenly offering Dani a job at his billion-dollar company. When she arrives the morning after ready to report for duty Zander realizes what a mistake he made in more ways than one over time. He assigns Dani as his driver and as the two spend more time together, they each soften each other's lives in the best ways possible --- both professionally and personally. Has either of them really gotten over the breakup? Can they make up for lost time? Only Summer Brooks could write a story with such emotion that you literally feel as if you have been dragged into her story lines. I highly recommend you give this a read.

Even though they made the best couple and had all the right reasons to stay together... One thoughtless (overheard) comment tore them apart. Years later, they reunite for Dani's Brother, Scott's, 30th birthday party. Zander won't know what hit him when Danielle shows up. Dani, his 'one and only', the love of his life (regardless of his divorce to another woman), she is, quite honestly, his everything and she is also his ex-girlfriend. After returning home from Berkley, Dani will be staying with her Brother, Scott; while seeking employment. Zander offers Dani a job at his Company's office. Maybe it is the incredible amount of chemistry between them, could it be him seeking closure that makes him offer the job, could it have been the copious amount of alcohol, perhaps it was just her... His Dani. The love they once shared is still there, as well as each other's best kept secret. Anyway you look at it... They are not done and this single Father/workaholic always gets what he wants and he has longed for Danielle most of his life (since 15). Opposites definitely do attract. Very well designed book, with characters that you will most certainly enjoy throughout her latest publication. A must read book, if ever I've read one.

Zander goes out with his best friend to celebrate Scott's birthday even though he'd rather stay in. Dani is moving to the city after graduating college so she is staying with her brother Scott until she can settle into her own place and find a job. Zander and Dani used to date before Zander graduated and went off to college things ended badly and they hadn't seen or spoke to each other until they met again at the bar. Things got crazy and by the end of the night some heat was regenerated back into Zander's life via Dani. Zander was hoping she would forget about his drunken job offer but when she showed up the next day he was afraid if he so no Scott wouldn't forgive him. So he starts Dani at the bottom as his driver which she is stunned over but rolls with it anyways. Pretty soon Dani is causing some noticeable changes from Zander at the office and at home with his daughter. Its not long before she has lost her heart to him again. Will Zander claim Dani as his own finally?
This is a great story and once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Zander and Dani is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.

Don't know if I could ever work for an old flame, but I guess if my heart still belonged to him, then I probably would not think anything of it. I loved this story, the fact that it includes a kid made it wonderful. Zander is a single father but who has a mother that everyone adores as she is outspoken and in the times. He is so strict that his own employees are like his little soldiers and they must sneak things in due to his strictness; that is until he hires his old flame and rekindles that relationship. Although he hires her as his driver, which is crazy in itself, when she has a master’s degree. Danielle is hilarious the total opposite of what he is. However, as he was her first boyfriend and all, she soon realizes that her love for him hasn’t died even if it has been years. It’s a funny story of second chance romance with a lot going on especially as Zander's best friend is Dani's brother. I believe there may be a story on that one as well along with some of the characters working for Zander....

Dani and Zander grew up together and dated in highschool. Zander, her brothers best friend and two years older, was overheard by Dani about leaving her with no issues to go to college. Thinking she'd dump him first, he leaves and they haven't seen each other for 10 years. Now, Dani is back in New York and with her brother Scotts help, ends up with a job at Zanders company. Still thinking he's demanding, arrogant and anything else she can come up with, they still find each other wanting the other. Zander never stopped thinking about her and it even interferred with his ruin of a marriage. Only thing good to come out of that was his daughter who he dotes on. Now that they are with each other everyday, can they get past their own failures of the past years and resolve the issues that have plagued them both? This is a sweet story of love found again. Wonderful characters and story line. I would highly recommend this book. I plan to definately follow this author.

ONE INCREDIBLY SWEET READ!!!
Ohmygosh! I love this exciting, pulse racing, heart pounding, soul searin, bring you to your knees, page turning masterpiece that connects with the reader on whole new level. Summer isn't playing around, pulling any punches or taking any prisoners with this heart melting tale that captivates from the start. The past comes back to haunt the two main characters who have an off the charts, highly addictive, explosive chemistry that flows through this entire tale. Their personalities are so realistic and believable it really pulls this little treasure together beautifully. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing it in your mind's eye. Ii fell in love with this story from the get go and I would totally recommend this bad boy to anyone who loves a fantastic romance. Summer did a phenomenal job bringing this read to life flawlessly. That is one funny well written story. I had bought this book in 2018 and for the life of me I don't know why I had not read this story. I think that was the year I retired, and I was just getting back into trying to read new authors and being able to read as much as I want to because I didn't have to punch a time clock. I know I loved reading Summer Brooks' books, so much so that she use to send us chapters on a book weekly and what you hadn't read she would send with the new chapter. I love the different types of romance books that she wrote. This the story of Danielle Rosenbloom and Zander Smallwood. These two young people were high school sweethearts and broke up when they each made decisions on going to college. She went far away when she overheard a discussion Zander had with one of his counselors. He went to school with the intention of making something of his life and he did because he became a billionaire. This is the story of how they got back together and what happened that they broke up in the first place. Its This was definitely a good read.

This was a good second chance romance. Zander has been best friends with Scott forever, and when they got older Dani caught Zander's eye. They see each other again after ten years. When her brother gets her hired to work at Zander's company, she is not sure if this is a good idea, but decides to do it. She realizes that Zander stiffness hasn't changed and he still has a stick up his butt. 😂 They also realize that their feelings for each other never went away. There are some parts that will make you laugh and also want to smack Zander. There is so much tension between them that when it bursts you want to watch out. Zander may be strict at work, but Dani sees how he is around his daughter and it is sweet. Zander's mother adds to the story. She is so hilarious and loves that Dani is back in Zander's life. She also knows that Dan I is the perfect person for her son and granddaughter. This is a good story with some wonderful characters.

A well written hilarious second chance romance that will have you addicted from page one. This funnny drama with its emotional rollercoaster, twists and turns, nailbiting suspense and explosive sizzling hot chemistry will make you estatic you clicked for this awesome love story. Dani and Zander, her brother's best friend, were high school sweethearts. When she overheard he had no issues to go to college anywhere she ghosted him with a broken heart. Thinking she'd dump him first, he leaves and they haven't seen each other for 10 years. When at her brothers 30th bday party he ends up hiring her as his driver even though she has a marketing masters degree. A captivating engaging journey as they come to HEA, with wonderful realistic secondary characters and employees who are like soliders sneaking things around his strictness. A must read.

I received this book as a gift to read and I would like to give my honest opinion of what I discovered.
I really enjoyed this book, to see two people who had made mistakes in their youth to come back and own up to their own failures in each others life. The transformation of Zander was short of miraculous however but I think it was his way of controlling himself he was helping others. Instead he was just creating that much more stress in his life.
When Dani and he began to talk of their past and what she had over heard him tell their High School counselor he and she both knew the mistakes they had made. Even then though there were still some doubts in Dani’s minds about Zander’s love for her. How will they ever be able to forge forward until she finds out the really truth about Zander’s health craze.
Excellent book or I wouldn’t have given it a five star rating. I recommend reading this one for sure.

Summer Brooks wrote another story that was a highly enjoyable second chances romance. After graduating from college in California with a master's degree in management and marketing, Dani moved in with her brother Scott in New York city. Scott is celebrating his 30th birthday at a club which his friend Zander is joining, when he arrives he meets Dani again his ex-girlfriend in high school. During the night of drinking he hires her to work at his company. Dani shows up to work but Zander hovers should he employ her or not because his old feelings for her emerge and disrupts his orderly life. Do Dani and Zander forget the hurts of the past and start again? Loved Dani the snarky women and Zander the organized CEO and the supporting characters, Alyssa (Zander's child), Scott (Dani's brother) and the rest in this quirky, romantic story. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.

Ex-Lover New Boss is a second chance romance between Zander and Danielle, who were in deep love with each other but get separated due to immaturity and misunderstanding when they were in their high school. Zander was Danielle's brother Scoot's best friend and also they are family friends too, after 10 years when they meet Zander is a single divorced dad with a trouble maker ex wife. On Scoot's request Zander gives Dani a job in his office, but that helps them come closer and understanding each other that finally leads to have what they missed all these years.
I enjoyed this book in fullest, the story has everything in it also the supporting characters had base in the story, waiting for the next book from the series.

Zander’s friend, Scott, was celebrating his 30th birthday and guilted Zander into attending. He hated partying but purchased a sports coat he wouldn’t mind getting ruined with drinks getting spilled over it by the group of jobless losers. Unfortunately among the crowd, Scott’s sister, Danielle, is also at the party. Zander and Dani had been high school sweethearts who broke up when Zander graduated and left for college. After having too much to drink, Zander tells Scott he will provide Dani a job in his company, even though he has strict rules for his employees and they might drive each other crazy.
This was a good story. I loved the banter and the wild chemistry between Zander and Dani. The story line moved at a good pace. The characters were developed well and provided the reader with some humorous situations. Get your copy and enjoy this second chance at love!

I love stories where we get the second chance romance theme. Even better when it is a little bit of enemies to lovers. And the best when there is a single parent to top it all. In this one we get sooo much more. Ex-lover, some drama, ton of hard feelings that should be buried in the past. When Dani and Zander meet after years all these emotions re-surface. And now they need to be boss and employee working closely together.
Hero is uptight and such an a**hole. But I loved him anyway. I quickly connected with Dani and Zander's little daughter Alyssa.
Story-line is very well written and well paced, there are some unexpected twists and events. I'm sure you will like this read very much. I did and have a lot of fun reading it.

Another excellent novel by Summer Brooks. Both Zander & Danielle are great characters. With their bantering back & forth plus Zander's expectations of his office environment are hilarious. Danielle knows how to throw Zander's business rules out the window within days, making for a happier atmosphere for everyone, including Zander. Their love for each other never really did disappear from years ago. Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, their love for each other blossomed & we get to see Zander's softer side.
I highly recommend reading this book as it covers everything one wants in a romance novel & more.

Of course not! This is a second change lovers romance story, so things are going to cross the line pretty darn quick! Which is just fine with us, because the result is a sexy, highly charged and fun read. Ms Brooks has a talent for crafting fun contemporary romance stories and this one is no exception. That is not to say that the blooming relationship is trouble free, but once again our couple works through their issues and deliver a delightful HEA. If as they say, it is all about the journey, than this one delivers in spades.

This was a very intense read from the first chapter. Being a chapter every night written by the author, kept us all on the edges of our seats waiting for the next chapter.
I really enjoyed the introduction to a few more characters that Summer Brooks has also started to introduce in her other books that revolve around these couples too. Very good plot and an interesting read. Juicy / Steaming hot / unpredictable...

Dani and Zander dated back in high school until they broke up. Years later while attending her brothers birthday party Dani and Zander meet again. But now he's a single dad and she is in need of a job. While at the party they have a few drinks and start dancing together Zander offers Dani a job at his company that she excepts. Will these two be able to overcome past hurts, to get a second chance at love? I really enjoyed this book, it was well written, very entertaining, with great characters and an emotional storyline.
