Forest of Piano #1

Forest of Piano, Vol. 1

Rate this book
This is a story about a piano, pitifully abandoned in the woods, and a young boy, Kai, who grew up playing it as his favorite toy. While Kai cannot even read sheet music, one day, he meets Shuhei Amamiya, an aspiring child pianist who transfers schools from Tokyo, and their music teacher, Sosuke Ajino. Ajino was also once a gifted pianist, until a tragic accident stole his promising future from him forever. Each from a different background, the trio’s personalities gravitate to each other and rebound. All the while, the piano sits patiently, awaiting a hand to play it.

A natural pianist and a gifted teacher fallen from stardom

Just as a warning to sensitive readers who take offense to nudity there are depictions of young male genitalia shown in this book much like Dragonball did with Goku in the original series. More troubling though is at one point while some patrons wait for the musical natural's mother they decide in all of their drunken glory to attempt to take his first sexual encounter themselves which thankfully did not follow all the way through but is still a disturbing scene (though he gave as well as he got.)

Honestly this story was alright. A young boy discovers an abandoned piano in the forest in his youth and he is able to play it while few can get anything out of it. Of course there is a reason to why the piano plays only for the boy and this book seems to start off a bit slow as we learn why certain people are why they are how they are but in general this story just wasn't for me and I didn't really care for any of the characters though there are moments that were pretty good too. Of course the description mentions the second kid who transfers to the school but short of a little bit introducing him he has basically become a plot point more then an interesting character. Hopefully he will have a chance to shine in the future considering he is not a natural like the two titans that ended up showcasing in this volume.

Judging from the blurb, this book is aimed at younger readers, but wait until you read all the swearing and see some of the drawings of Kai’s mum. Tasteless… 2 stars for the plot, which dragged on and on.

Pretty great Classical music manga, really loved the art! The story was great and beautiful at times, but I thought it went slightly down hill the second half of the series 😁🎹🎻🎼❤️❤️
