Rate this book
Nick and Mimi are happily married and settled into their new home. It all seems perfect, but is it? Somehow, just when you think life is perfect, something or someone comes along to upset the calm waters.
Charles Parks to the rescue! Or is he just meddling?
Running from your troubles is never a good idea, and yet when Charles presents Mimi with tickets for a cruise to the Virgin Islands she jumps at the chance to leave it all behind, even if it's only for a week.
In true Charles and Mimi fashion, the cruise won't be boring as they get embroiled in chaos when a cruise member goes missing.

Let me preface this by saying I’ve only read the first book in the series (bought cheap on Amazon) before jumping into this book. This is the only book in the series my library owns, so...

Okay. It started off really well. When Mimi learns of the death of a certain person it throws her for a loop. Pissed off at everyone, she takes Charles up on his offer to accompany him on a cruise, thus running away from Nick and all her emotional baggage. However, fate is a capricious bitch, and instead lands Mimi and Charles in the middle of a messy cheating drama that turns into something more.

What I liked:

~ Mimi’s super emotional reaction to the news delivered by Max, Charles and some other dude
~ the ‘closed room’ dynamics (but on a cruise ship, not an isolated house, etc)
~ Charles’ attitude (for the most part)

What annoyed me:

~ Charles’ involvement in the whole mess, and not having the guts to tell Mimi
~ the stupid frat boys and Emily. Ugh, just No.
~ Nick’s reaction when he meets up with Mimi (in front of Charles). You do not do that to your wife!
~ and, that freaking epilogue!!! Charles, what the hell did you do 😱

So, that’s my feelings on book 12. Thankfully the mystery is a self contained story, so if you don’t mind a few gaps, or tidbits that don’t seem to make sense in the MCs life, it’s still a straightforward mystery. Now I can’t wait for book 13, because Charles, that secret should come back to bite you on your designer clad derrière, and I want to see the fallout when Mimi finds out.

When Mimi's late husband turns up once again to turn her life upside down, again. Charles takes her on a get away cruise, well, to get away from it all of course. A few hours after the cruise starts, Mimi and Charles are brought in to help investigate and hopefully locate a missing passenger. It is one of three people who, thanks to twitter is somewhat of an unwanted celebrity. Much to Charles delight.

On board we have an apparently wealthy restaurateur, his wife, and a lady he hooked up with on an airplane, becoming a member of the Mile High Club.

Three possible people to look for, at least two people to suspect once it's determined who went missing. Who knows, one of them may have ticked off someone else for an entirely unknown reason.

This is another fun story from Jamie Lee Scott. It has well developed characters, a few twist, and Charles! What more needs to be said.

I binged all the other Gotcha series books last year, and was anxiously awaiting this one. But for me, a lot of the draw of the series came from all the characters. Having this one take place with just Charles and Mimi (for the most part) made it not quite as good as the other.

I am looking forward to seeing where Jamie Lee Scott takes the Gotcha Detective Agency next!

Yes!

Another great book in the series, loved finding out more about Mimi and Dominic. It was fun to have this story set on a cruise. I’m looking forward to the next book!
