After a dramatic end to the Justin Wilson case, Psychic, Tennyson Grimm heads to a small island off the coast of Maine, hoping to clear his mind and renew his spirit. When the dead won’t let Tennyson rest, the psychic curses his gift and orders the spirits to leave him. He wakes the next morning to silence, and finds truth in the saying, "Be careful what you wish for.”
Detective Ronan O’Mara has been tasked by his boss with the chore of finding a more "sedate" cold case to investigate this time around. The handsome cop is only too happy to oblige. He chooses the twenty-year-old case of a family patriarch who was murdered on Christmas night, 1997. The only possible suspects are either his wife or his daughter, who were both with him at the time of his death. Ronan figures this one will be a piece of cake. All he has to do is get his favorite medium to talk to the deceased man's spirit.
When Tennyson reveals the truth about what happened in Maine, he’s forced to take a hard look at who he thought he was, and what his gift really means. Ronan does his best to help his lover cope with his new normal while he uses good old-fashioned police work to figure out a family who put the 'dis' in dysfunction.
Will Tennyson be able to find the key to unlock his gift, or will the spirits stay dead silent?
Sick of the slogging rat-race of her 9-5 job, Pandora Pine put pen to paper (literally!) to make her ambition of becoming a romance novelist a reality. I think that this is the best book in the series so far... and that is not even taking into consideration that the epilogue to this book was through the roof awesome. Like so much of this author's writing it had me laughing and crying all at the same time. The large and growing family of choice that is the center of these books is another reason I love them so. I can't wait to get started on the next book in the very new future!!!
Be careful what you wish for.... it might just come true.
This is something Tennyson Grimm bitterly learns one day when he desperately needs some peace and quiet from the spirits that seek his help. The last case he and Ronan worked on completely wiped him out. To recover and recharge he decides to go to a small Island outside Seattle for a few days. Only the vacation isn't as relaxing as he hoped, spirits are everywhere and he can't get a moments peace. One afternoon he breaks and ends up screaming at them to go away and wishing his gift away. Mentally exhausted he falls asleep and when he wakes up some twelve hours later he finds that his wish came true. Only now, he desperately wants it back, but hasn't the faintest idea of how.
At the same time Ronan is back home in Salem looking through cold cases. He looks for the easiest and more importantly the most boring case he can find. He could sure use less excitement in his cases than the last couple of cases he and Ten worked on. In a way he gets his wish, the case don't present any real danger to either him or Ten and it won't leave them with scars (mental or otherwise). The only problem is the lack of Ten's ability to communicate with the deceased to find out the identity of the murderer.
I did enjoy the path this story took - for the most part. I liked how Ten losing his ability really made him, and his family to revalue, to think. For years his life has been run by the spirits that turn to him, with no regards to him. But now that had to change. I'm also a fan of the secondary characters, they round up the story in a nice way.
Something that I was not a fan of Ten running from Ronan - again. Or of him not telling Ronan about losing his gift. At some point he needs to really open up and trust. But if he continues to run hot and cold, I might just go mad. I don't mean that there needs to be huge declarations, moving in together, proposals or any of that. But basic trust, and reliability, that I do need. Open and honest conversations, otherwise he and Ronan won’t ever have a chance for something that will last when the moments passed.
Michael Pauley narrates this series, and this book, wonderfully. He captures the nuances of the story and brings it to the listener in a way that makes you a part of it. So much so that I listened to this book in one go and then wondering where the time had gone. Not that I minded really, I had a great time listening.
Dead Silent was another good instalment in this series and I can't wait to listen to what happens next in the lives of Ten and Ronan.
A copy of this book was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review
This 3rd book was better than the previous one, but still the awful habit of the author to "tell" us who the killer is, in the first pages, ruined the story again for me. This time Tennyson's drama queen character could shine, but at least he had good reasons in this book. Our psychic loses his gift for like 90% of the book, and I was so curious to see how he could get it back, that I read with interest all the pages, but then when he finally is "cured", all happens so fast and there is no real explanation of how or why, and all the author tells us about it, could barely fit in half a page(Ye, I think also less).. I was so disappointed...
I rouned the book up to 4 because there are no half stars, and because in the end it was still better than the 2nd book.
There was also a nice and romantic epilogue, with a proposal....
This series just gets better with each new book released.
AND OMG THAT EPILOUGE... YESSS!!! I cannot wait for the next installment to come.
I love Tennyson and Ronan, their connection and chemistry together is just amazing, and gets stronger with each book. The first two books of the series were more focused on the suspense and action mixed with some romance. I felt like this one was the opposite, it focused more on the relationship, development, and characters themselves. Tennyson has some serious and turbulent inner angst and drama to deal with in "wishing his gift away" and Ronan of course stands strong beside him at all times. While Ronan was the "jerk" in books one and two, the tables have turned and Tennyson is the "jerk" in this book. lol. I totally felt bad for Ronan at times in this book, he did not deserve some of the things said and done. I also cannot wait to see what happens next where Captain Fitzgibbons is concerned, with the little tidbit we hear about in this book, I can only imagine how great that will be. Oh, and I feel like I should really mention the intimate scenes we get in this book between Ronan and Tennyson, Holy Crap are they ridiculously HOT. Like, out of left field never saw the Heat and sexy kink coming and was completely amazed by it. This book was great, same with the previous books, and I am jumping straight into the next one.
Audio - Michael Pauley has done a fantastic job with this series and these characters so far, as I am sure he will do with each book until the end. I really enjoy all his voices and slight accents for some of the characters included too. I am happy that I'm experiencing these books for the first time while in audio. I think with this series, the audio gives us the extra bit needed to suck us into the storyline and keep us enthralled from beginning to end more than just reading the books would (for me anyways) Books with suspense always seem better in audio, especially with a good narrator.
I was disappointed by this installment in the Cold Case series. I enjoy both Ten and Ronan as a couple and a team. The whining, crying and blame tossing got very old very quickly and the story got repetitive. The mystery of Mr. Owens was enjoyable and kept me interested in the investigation but I found myself skipping pages in order to get back to the case. Too much filler in this story for me to give it more than three stars.

"I wish I never had this damn gift!" ~Ten
They say you can never take it back, so be careful what you wish for. One careless sentence erased a lifetime of reality and sent Tennyson, psychic extraordinaire, into a life of silence.
I am having so much fun with this series and bouncing MY ideas off the author (I think she humours me by nodding and smiling virtually, hahaa.) From the stand alone prologue Vision of Love to the lastest book in Cold Case Psychic, this series has been giving me life. A touch of mystery with my paranormal and doused with romance, yeah, hand it over.
Without giving much away, Ten has been feeling overwhelmed and needed a break. Unfortunately, his break came with a wish and that has now left him floundering and unable to communicate with the dead. Come on board and discover how friends and family would go to the ends of the earth to help one of their own. See how Ten's and Ronan's working and romantic relationship are affected when his gift is no longer available. And get prepared for so many old faces and surprise visits and surprises. A not to be missed episode in the Ten and Ronan show.
I am so ready for more and my gray matter is on fire with how this series can go (hint, hint, Ms. Pine). Get ready to one click and get to know these guys more.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
*WARNING* intended for mature audiences I really like this series, the characters, the adventures, but the thing that always stops from giving this book five star is the ridiculously long sex scenes. I don't mind sex scenes, but these are usually a minimum of three pages and sometimes more! This one was interesting. A psychic losing his gift, very angry spirits attacking and leaving bruises, and of course Ten lashing out like a child. I think Ten should be mature with all he's been through instead of acting like a child and throwing temper tantrums. He also a pretty selfish person. This one was not a favorite, but I will continue to the next book in hopes of more maturity in Ten.
Loved it, another great book in the series. Ten is suffering because he broke down and told the spirits to leave him alone and alot of the book is taken up with him trying to get the spirits to come back to him. Ronan, meanwhile decides to take a boring case, where on the face of it there is only 2 suspects. I love that the relationship takes front and center for this book. Ten is going theough a hard time and Ronan is trying to support them. A lovely surprise ending and I can't wait for book 4.
After their last case with the serial killer who attacked young homeless gay boys, Tennyson needed time for himself. He goes on vacation to Maine alone. But when he spends all his days trying to help more spirits, Tennyson lost it, and yells at the spirits before wishing to never have his gift. When he wakes up the next day, it was dead silent, no spirits, no voices, nothing—Tennyson lost his gifts.
Ronan wishes to be with Tennyson but understands the need for his man to be alone, so he tries to find a “boring” case, a case without Tennyson or him being shot, kidnaped or beat. He’s happy to find a “simple” murder case and can’t wait to have Ten back with him to resolve the case.
Tennyson is scared and lost, for the first time since he was thirteen, he feels truly alone, and afraid that Ronan, Carson, Cole, and Truman may reject him now that he isn’t special anymore.
For the first time in his life, Tennyson will have to count on only himself, without his gifts. I loooooooved this book like I love the others.
Tennyson and Ronan are just amazing.
Tennyson is completely lost and scared, losing his gifts and having to be “blind” at work with Ronan, is hard for him. I discovered the insecure Tennyson, the one who believes that no one will love him now he’s “normal”. I was sad for him, sad to understand that he never had a real life since he’d gotten his gift at thirteen, but he can count on Ronan’s unconditional love.
Ronan was there for Tennyson, even if he doesn’t know how to help him, he tries everything he can to help him relax, find peace and find a way to have his gifts back. Even without Ten’s abilities, Ronan refuses to work without him, and they have to rely only on their investigators’ skills this time.
Of course the gang was there too, and we learn a little bit of information about them, especially Captain Fitzgibbon, and I just hope that he’ll have his own book.
This book is a good addition to the series, after their difficult beginning, Tennyson and Ronan needed to reconnect together, not only Tennyson with himself, but also with Ronan, and this book is exactly that, how they reconnect as a couple. The case wasn’t as horrible as the previous cases this time, but I admit that Pandora makes sure that until the end, we can’t find who did it.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series. Tennyson and Ronan are worth it.
It’s 5 OptimuMMs ***I would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book ***
I received this book by the author for a honest opinion. This is the 3rd book of the series about the psychic Tennyson and the grumpy detective Ronan and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. This was the story about Ten wishing away his gift to speak to the dead after an emotional case especially in book 2 that touched close to home for him and he's at the end of his rag so in a moment of frustration he utters the words that will take him on a journey of discovering who he is as just Tennyson and his self worth. Ronan is blissfully unaware of Tens dilemma until with a nice quiet case that should of been solved easily it turns out to be not. I liked this book this was a bit of a self discovery for Tennyson to see who he was without the ability since he's had as a child and to get over the fear of all he has now being taking away now that he's not special. I liked that we had the chance to see all his friends and the family he's made come together in support and we see ten and Ronans relationship progress and how it weather's out this hiccup. The murder mystery although good didn't engage me like the last book as it was more placid (I don't know what this saids about me, that I preferred the darker mystery😏) but it was written so that I could sympathize with the characters. The term dead silent was used a few times to illustrate the point of the title which I thought in my humble opinion it didn't need. There were a few mistakes but not so much to detract from my enjoyment of the book. I also liked this little quote from the book as I think it's quite profound that we should remember that even in our darker times, things can always get better. “Every day you are alive, your story is still being written." A good book that let us see more characterization and has set up quite a few stories that I wouldn't mind reading (captain Fitzgibbon) and I look forward to the next in the series.
Pros: There bulk of the story is the building of the relationship between Ronan and Tennyson. The mystery takes a backseat. We enter the story with Ten “wishing away” his abilities and he gets his wish for time. He’s got to help Ronan solve a case the old fashioned way, at least for a time.
Again. I like a lot of the supporting characters.
And those funny, notable, and quotable moments: “I’m a midwestern boy who grew up in the fucking Bible Belt. I was so sexually repressed my fucking balls didn’t descend until I was in my twenties.” And other names for the peen…”baloney ponies, love hammers, bald avengers, disco sticks”
Cons: Ronan seemed like a completely different character. Gone was the gruff cop. Ronan is overly sensitive in this one. Ten is different too. He’s less sassy and sweet. More ragey. Granted, he lost his powers for a good bit of the book and I can understand him being ragey because of this. But it’s a bit over the top.
It's TOO descriptive in areas. Felt like filler. And all the reference to tv series and the like is annoying. Once in a book is fine. Multiple times …eek!
Typos: for example “brightly” instead of bright. Please hire an editor!
And what’s with the Captain adopting that one street kid and instantly calling him son and the kid calling him Dad. It’s…..odd. Not endearing at all.
This one’s at the lower end of 2 stars. So again. I’ll read the next. Because mama didn’t raise a quitter. But I might need a palate cleanser after this next one.
I fall more in love with this series with each book. I love that in this book the focus was more on the development of Tennyson and Ronan’s relationship. Tennyson goes on a solo trip for some relaxation after their last case, he gets overwhelmed by all he spirits crowding him. Tennyson blows up at the intrusive spirits and awakes without his “gift”. As Ronan gets dealt another case, he thinks he can turn to Tennyson for his usual help using his gifts to help solve cold cases. Certainly not the case this time with the loss of Ten’s gift. The story really kept me on my toes and kept me guessing until the end. And the end? Loved it! Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Good premise, I love these characters. It would have been a solid 4 for me, but the repetitive recapping drove me bonkers. One time to remind readers what happened in the previous books is fine and makes sense. It is not necessary to keep mentioning Kev getting shot, or Greely's backstory & him being taken by the serial killer nearly every time they appear on page, just as an example. Recapping the story you are currently reading just sent me over the edge.
As an aside, I am really looking forward to Kevin finding his HEA!
I love this series! Each installment just gets better and better. Ten and Ronan are back but there's lot of tension because Ten wished his gift away and can't seem to get it back. This really frustrates Ten which causes tension with Ronan. But Ronan is amazing, very loving and understanding while standing by his man. They have another case to solve but I really love that this story has a lot of the growth and progress of Ten's and Ronan's relationship. And the ending was absolutely spectacular, had me tearing up!! Can't wait for the next installment. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I love this series. The characters are so very interesting. This a story made strong by good character development. Add a little mystery, many ghosts, love and hot sex. Will read the next in series.
How I lurrrrve you. If you hate sap, grab a barf bag cuz *gag* there is a whole lotta *gag* schmaltz going on in this one.
The plot here is just ho-hum. The last two books had more going for them in that department, BUT in this one, Ronan and Tennyson finally gain some actual traction in their relationship. Thank the gods!
Everything in these books is a little predictable. The mysteries aren't all that mysterious, the tropes aren't all that earth-shattering, and it's all a little mmm ... simple?
So where's the fun, you ask? Well, the underlying premise is really good. I mean, come on, hot cop + true psychic + cold cases = F. U. N. I just wish the author had committed to making these murder mysteries more difficult for the reader to figure out the whodunit part.
I also have a little niggle about character development. I only know how these guys feel about each other because of the dialogue-o-drama. It's dual POV gag me with a spoon emo-dumping. Between the tantrums (both MCs) and the overly demonstrative convos followed by pretty hot makeup sex, there's not a whole lot of character development going on. . Overall, I believe the relationship (cerebrally) but only because the facts add up and the characters, as written, totally make sense together. Otherwise it elicits very few feels for me.
In short, I'm entertained but not blown away. I think given some complications in the murder plotlines and more detailed mysteries, these could have been as good as Cordelia Kingsbridge's Seven of Spades series is proving to be. Barring that, these are engaging, just don't expect to be too serious about it.
omg.. omg omg omg omg omg.. i dont know what else to say.. this is better and better and better and it leaves you an emotional mess.. like.. i thought about throwing my kindle at a wall a few times.. these two can be so dumb and irritating and in the next instant so sweet and perfect.. and the twist in this one.. oh it was so perfect... i cannot wait to see what the next one is like because this... this will be hard to top (hehe top) ;) loved it
This is not a great series by any means, but come on! In any other decent novel, this premise would be a SUBPLOT. Instead, they've made THE MURDER INVESTIGATION the B-story to a conflict (psychic constipation) that was resolved offscreen/internally?
When pressure and stress get to be too much for Tennyson he decides the best thing for him would be a break...alone. The only problem with that is he's never really alone. And he finds his breaking point. The silence that follows shows him a glimpse of a different life, one that scares him. Realizing that his tantrum was obeyed in a very real sense and that alone was the last thing he actually needed, regret hounds him all the way back to Salem.
Ronan needs Tennyson's help on a decidedly less "exciting" case, but he'll have to find the courage to admit he's no longer special, no longer necessary. What he doesn't fathom is that he's loved for more than his talent. Except the spirits don't understand that he's unable to access his gift and they'll stop at nothing to get his attention. He'll need to work through his fear and mental blocks or it's not just Ronan's case that will suffer, it will be their relationship, his career, his confidence, and even his life.
I almost don't recognize Ronan in this story. Far from the blustering, grumpy, short-tempered, angry man we first met, he's soft, understanding, and all kinds of vulnerable. It doesn't help that Tennyson is doing his best to keep him at arm's length because of his secret and simmering resentment. Their passion is a bit stilted at the same time as it's opening to something much deeper. It's Tennyson's turn to lash out, be accusatory, angry, and scared. Add in the stress of having to turn to others to get his gift back and we have an emotional mess of a man unlike we've ever seen before.
The focus of this story is the romantic relationship and Tennyson's growth, or lack thereof, as a medium. He's been getting by solely on his innate talent and desire to help others from the beyond. What he lacks is the personal training and boundaries he encourages Cole and Craig to work on. All of his years of abandonment, family issues, insecurities, and stress combine to make him flip out quite literally, and lash out at the one person that only wants to see him safe after witnessing the horror of what the spirits are willing to do to gain Tennyson's attention. They have a long road to travel and Tennyson will have to make some serious decisions if it's one they'll travel together.
This was a highly emotional story. While I wasn't bothered by the more angsty drama it contained, I was slightly disappointed by the direction of Ronan's case. It took a back seat so often that I couldn't have cared less if they solved it. The procedures were all over the place and the "villain" was less who committed the crime as it was an un-discussed discussion about whether emotional abuse and control is worse than removing the abuser in a violent manner. None of that was given enough page time so it left me feeling ambivalent about the whole thing. The book should have simplified the case, focused on the philosophical and emotional aspects of the parallels between Tennyson's history and the case, or just left the case completely out of the story. Overall it wasn't a bad follow-up, it just needed more fine-tuning to give everyone and everything enough attention to be a great follow-up.
I loved this book. It is the third book in the Cold Case Psychic series, and it has everything the first two books had. Great characters, an intriguing and captivating storyline, beautiful writing. I couldn’t ask for more. Dead Silent continues where Dead Reckoning ends: when Tennyson, overwhelmed with all that had taken place and burned out, wishes he never had his gift. Sadly his wish is granted, and not only does Tennyson lose his gift, but he also loses part of himself. His gift is such an integral part of who he is, just like his beautiful curls, that he has a hard time adjusting. But thankfully, he hasn’t lost Ronan. Not in a million years could he lose the love his life. Ronan is there for him all the way. This only cements their love for each other. Both Ronan and Tennyson learn a valuable lesson that they have sometimes take a step back to gain back their peace and quiet. And most important that they are the one they can’t live without. The quest for Tennyson’s sight is entwined with the next cold case. According to Ronan it is a boring case, but as Tennyson can’t help, the case is not as easily solved as they thought and would have liked. Once again this author kept me on the edge of my seat, throwing curveballs after curveballs and letting me on the wrong track. The outcome is an “of course” and “how didn’t I see that” moment. The reason I love series is that I have the feeling I get to know the characters really well. It is like meeting old friends, and I am truly invested in their lives. That also goes for the secondary cast. Carson and Truman and their babies, Cole and Cassie, Kevin and Greeley, and Bertha and Erin. They all play such an important part in the story that it wouldn’t be half as good if they weren’t there. The love and support they have for each other goes beyond the here and now. There is more between heaven and earth, and this author makes the otherworld seem so normal and natural I almost believe in ghosts. This is the third book in the Cold Case Psychic series. These books should be read in order to thoroughly enjoy them.
