Go High is a photographic collection of First Lady Michelle Obama's warmth, wisdom, and belief in a future that is bright. As you move along these pages, you will find moments in time that spotlight Michelle Obama's compassion, verve, and dynamic approach to unifying people from all walks of life. Beside these photographs of our 44th First Lady are some of her most compelling words--her earnest expression that the United States of America is a place of unity, fairness, vitality, and optimism.
Take a nostalgic look back through Michelle Obama's heartfelt embrace of the American people, and her persistent encouragement to always lift one another up, reach higher, and rise to the occasion.
Alright, before anyone accuses me of being political, this is not that. This is me appreciating a book about a woman who used to be First Lady, one whom I respect and admire for her intelligence, her wit, her appreciation of the little things. I love how she gets right in there and gives big hugs and chats about anything and everything. And I love how she loves her dogs, Bo and Sunny. ❤
She is an honest woman and I admit freely that she is a role model of mine. Michelle Obama is known for her many roles, her life and her willingness to speak firmly but with honesty and heart behind her words. She was sort of thrust into the spotlight and dealt with the cruelty of the press regularly. (I do believe the press plays favorites and demonizes one side.) She did a great deal with Dr. Jill Biden for veterans and their families.
Anywho. Do you miss Michelle? I do. (That’s the length of how political I’ll get.) She brought a down to earth vibe to the White House that I sorely miss. I always thought it felt like you could walk in and she’d probably greet you with a hug. I remember seeing that she would pop into White House tours with Bo and Sunny (or just Bo) and greet everyone. Still, this book encompasses that feeling; it features many of her more famous–and less famous–sayings. I think we all agree that ‘When they go low, we go high‘ is definitely her most famous and a personal favorite of mine.
If you’re looking for some positivity and a reason to smile? This book is it. I couldn’t help but smile reading some of the quotes, because they almost seem like mantras for living a happier life. I highly recommend it.

“When you are struggling and you start thinking about giving up, I want you to remember something…and that is the power of hope—the belief that something better is always possible if you’re willing to work for it and fight for it.”

Thank you to St. Martin's Press (Castle Point Books) for gifting me a copy of this book, in exchange of an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I love Michelle Obama, I believe in what she stands for, and her outlook on life. She is full of grace, elegance, and poise. She is incredibly smart, and such a role model for girls, and women. My views of her, are not from a feminist viewpoint, they are from a humans viewpoint. She is one of the people in the world who I genuinely believe wants the best for others.
This book is full of the most gorgeous photos, and even better quotes. I have included a photo of one of my favorites. I am so honored to have been asked to review this book, and It is definitely something I will read through often. Between this book and Mrs. Obama's book BECOMING, I feel like I have learned so much about her, and I couldn't love her anymore!
Go High: The Unstoppable Presence and Poise of Michelle Obama is a series of quotes and matching pictures meant to inspire you at the moments when you most need them. The poise and grace of the last First Lady is something that gets me through rough times. This is a coffee table worthy book and something any one of her fans would love to have. It covers her 5 H's of heart, hope, help, honor and high. It is just hard sometimes to hit that high when everything is at such a low.
My low rating is mostly due to differing expectations of what the book was vs. what I thought it would be. This is a collection of images with quotes from Michelle Obama. There are themed sections, but not really an overall organized feel. While the quotes are mostly attributed with locations and dates, the images are less clear on when/where and don't necessarily match the location/event of the quote. As an inspirational book, I think this would be a great gift for a graduation. I received this through a Goodreads giveaway.
An excellent book of photographs and memorable quotes of Michelle. The photographs clearly show why she was a beloved First Lady who wasn’t afraid to be herself and have fun doing so. Clearly shows one of her favorite times were ones she spent with children all over the country.
Beautiful pictures and powerful quotes from someone who I truly respect and admire... and who always goes high. I will re-read these again and again. ❤️
I love Michelle Obamaaaaa. This is a beautiful coffee table book that celebrates a brilliant and empowering woman who happens to have a famous husband but who is celebrated without having to mention him all the time. Which I appreciate. It has beautiful pictures and lovely quotes that Michelle Obama has made throughout her career. It is super uplifting and I know will get me motivated if I'm ever feeling down.
What a beautiful book of quotes from Michelle Obama & beautiful pictures of her as well. She’s a remarkable woman & her words always resonate with me so much! Great addition to my coffee table books!
Just received this beauty for review. Go High: The Unstoppable Presence and Poise of Michelle Obama thanks to @stmartinspress #CastlePointBooks edited by M. Sweeney. Beautiful quality, wonderful collection of quotes, vivid pictures. A coffee table book in the same style as the book Hugs From Obama also edited by M. Sweeney. I am impressed with how well this book was done. I don't discuss politics with anyone...but obviously politics are everywhere and everyone has a view and everyone is shaped and affected by our own views and others not like our own. I get books about Trump, Bush....all the way down to Lincoln. No matter what your stance is as a woman this is a wonderful book with great motivation and positive words. It's a book about community and doing more for community and that's what I take from it. Honored to have this for my personal library.
Highly recommend this book....a treat to yourself....a gift to someone else.
Thanks to goodreads, to M. Sweeney and to St. Martins Press for my free copy of this book won via giveaway. I received. I read. I reviewed this book honestly and voluntarily.
“The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued.” Michelle Obama, State Department Women of Courage Award, March 11, 2009
“You will not always be able to solve all the world’s problems at once. But don’t ever underestimate the impact you can have, because history has shown us that courage can be contagious, and hope can take on a life of its own.” Michelle Obama, Young African Women Leaders Forum, June 22, 2011
“It has to be a true partnership, and you have to really, really like and respect the person you’re married to you because it is a hard road.” Michelle Obama, Interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show, May 2, 2011
"Believe in the America that reaches Higher. Go High is a moving photographic collection of First Lady Michelle Obama's warmth, wisdom, and belief in a future that is bright."
The book is a nice compilation showcasing the eight years of Michelle Obama as First Lady. More than being a political agenda, it is a wife, mother, and compassionate view of her time in the white house. It is also inspirational to young women.
I won a copy of this book during a Goodreads giveaway. I am under no obligation to leave a review or rating and do so voluntarily. So that others may also enjoy this book, I am paying it forward by donating it to my local library.
"We rock! No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, you are beautiful, you are powerful, you are brilliant, you are funny!"
"Fear is a useless emotion. Don't ever make decisions based on fear. Make decisions based on hope and possibility. Make decisions based on what should happen, not what shouldn't."
"You don't have to say anything to the haters. You don't have to acknowledge them at all. You just wake up every morning and be the best you you can be. And that tends to shut them up.
This is a nice collection of photographs with accompanying quotations by Michelle Obama. If you are fatigued by the news of the day, this is a good book to flip through and realize that there are people who use their position to inspire others with hope rather than divide through fear. It is a great coffee table book and conversation starter.
I love this book. I have always been a fan of the Obamas and especially Michelle. The quotes are very inspiring. Everyday I can open up the book and find a quote that pertains and uplifts the start of my day. The pictures are pictures I have never before seen from the Obamas.
I thought this would be a book that I read and said goodbye to, but it was just so powerful. I loved having all of the quotes from Michelle Obama, and I look forward to referencing it when I need some inspiration!
Great photos and quotes..one of my favorite. "Success isn't about how your life looks to others. It's about how it feels to you. We realized that being successful isn't about being impressive, it's about being inspired. That's what it means to be true to yourself. "
Go High is a lovely, little book bursting with inspiration ("Our diversities of faiths and colors and creeds - that is not a threat to who we are, it makes up who we are." "The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued." "I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them.") that was over all too soon, but is one I know I'll be reaching for time and again when I need a pick-me-up. Big Bird even makes an appearance!
I thought this was a self-serving book only for Michelle Obama. Why would you do a book like this with only pictures of yourself and "Quotes" you supposedly said? A complete waste of paper and ink. We all know that the words were not her own, they have White House speech writers for that. The money spent on printing and publishing this book should have been spent for better causes. I won this book in a Good Reads giveaway, would never have spent money on it. Can you tell I'm not a Democrat? LOL
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. What a powerful, beautiful, inspiring book! Gorgeous color photographs of Michelle Obama doing what she does best are paired alongside quotes from interviews, speeches, and conversations she had during her time as First Lady. I had previously been gifted the companion book, Hugs from Obama, by my mother and was thrilled to have been a winner of this giveaway. A good coffee table book to pick up and peruse when you need a dose of inspiration and moxie.
This is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful, smart, warm and caring First Lady, Michelle Obama. I love the beautiful pictures and the very inspiring words. You can see that she enjoyed meeting and inneracting with people from all walks of life, regardless of background and race. You can see how much she enjoyed her role as First Lady. Thanks to St Martin’s Press for the book. It is truly a treasure.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press (Castle Point Books) for gifting me a copy of this book, in exchange of an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book. The pictures are amazing and gives you a good insight into Mrs. Obama's life. I think she's one of the best first ladies we have had in a very long time. Between this book and Mrs. Obama's own book, I feel like I've learned so much about her. If you love Michelle I would recommend you buy this book!!
This hardcover photo/quote book is really, truly lovely. I was very inspired reading through it and looking at the photos of Michelle Obama in joy/laughter/encouragement/achievement. The quotes were really motivating and I would probably give this book as a graduation gift, even. The photos of her with President Obama are so filled with tenderness that I was stunned. It was those special glances that they shared and smiles unique to their relationship that warmed my heart the most of all.
I received Go High as part of a giveaway. This is a good book to keep on your coffee table if you have one. It's full of photos with each page having a quote by Michelle Obama. Honestly, I don't remember her making a lot of speeches when her husband was president. She is/was the picture of a first lady in the image of Eleanor Roosevelt. Her words/deeds make the US a better place.
I received this Book as a first reads winner and I am thrilled. I love this book! Wonderful pictures of Michelle Obama being her being her open, delightful self accompanied by her words of encouragement and positive thinking. I admire this woman as much as I have admired anyone and this picture book will be in my book collection forever. I HIGHLY recommend "Go High".
I received this book as part of Goodreads Giveaway program.
This is a really sweet and heartwarming collection. I'm not big on platitudes, but I found myself smiling while reading without realizing it. It was pleasantly nostalgic, and managed to give me a bit of hope for the future of our country.
Michelle Obama has always been about bringing people together and trying to make life better for others, esp. children. She's been their advocate since the beginning of her husband's term in the White House.A very nice book with quotes and pictures that are uplifting and inspiring.A wonderful book to be won on Goodreads!
