This Box Set contains the first 4 books of the successful series, the Ascendant Chronicles.
A black-ops agency discovers hieroglyph-covered pyramids on Jupiter's moon Callisto. The government forcibly taps rebel archeologist Kaden Jaxx with only two instructions: 1) decode the ancient writings and 2) keep his overactive mouth shut...or else. But what if the writing spells out an ancient prophecy for Earth's doom?
"A spine-tingling space thriller that combines elements of Stargate Atlantis, The Da Vinci Code, and Raiders of the Lost Ark into a must-read sci-fi adventure."
Caution: This book contains dangerous ancient secrets and a lot of kick-butt action. If you're ready, grab a copy today!
Brandon Ellis was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up on the outskirts of the city in a little town known as Gladstone, where he graduated high school and moved on to college. After studying Therapeutic Bodywork at East-West College of the Healing Arts, he excelled in his field, becoming one of the Pacific Northwest's leading Therapeutic teachers and bodywork professionals. After several years, the love for writing tugged at his heart so much that he decided to put things aside and live his passion - write. He's now fashioning story after story, creating imaginative worlds of inspiration and art.
I read more than three quarters of these books and it was a hoot. Horrible characters and stupid dialogue were the perfect example of typical military/space opera junk. This is a must read for anyone curious about the genre and prepared for the realization that there are no standards for the genre.
There is no real plot as you'll discover and no sane logic in the stumbling action, interactions or background. This 4 book set is deliciously terrible but not for the sensitive reader. Warning: toughen up and get your laugh on or this series could damage your psyche.
The background is where the fun begins. There is global warming in the book, as part of the natural planetary life cycle and it happens every twelve thousand years of so like clockwork. it destroys all life on the planet, I think. It also is the reason that Atlantis (Plato's lost civilization) relocated to the moon Callisto (Jupiter system, I think). Lemuria is mentioned and may or may not be Atlantis by another name. Both abandoned the rest of humanity and used their space fleet to escape the flood. They never came back except to secretly build the pyramids around the world many thousand of years ago.
These space opera/military stories always feature a planetary space fleet that is totally controlled, staffed, built by, and led by the US. There aren't any other Earth space forces. This book does it better. There are two U.S. space forces. One answers to the president and the other sort of does its own thing. it's not explained how they recruit, resupply, create new ships or perform ship maintenance. The Secret Space Program has battle Fleets, ground forces and has been fighting aliens for ages. It may have been started by George Washington but it's not clear. Sometimes it rents out squadrons to one side or the other in alien conflicts. It's part of the US navy, I think. They also want to conquer the newly discovered Atlanteans on the moon, Calisto. I think they wanted the Atlantean pyramids. I have no idea why they would.
The other Space fleet is controlled by a U.S. army colonel? There are no generals in this book. The GSA is a U.S. military initiative to protect the Earth from aliens and global warming? It has a secret train system and tunnels that that run under the sea and connect their secret bases in the Caribbean, the US and I guess other places. It isn't clear what the scope of the train system is. There is also a secret space fleet hidden underground somewhere that the GSA owns in order to protect Congress and the president, I think. No other country in the world knows about the two fleets and none has a space fleet or faster-than-light technology or noticed the US space fleet zipping around the system for decades.
There is a struggle between positivity and negativity raging across the galaxy. I wasn't able to sort out which side the US fleets had joined. The Congress all flees to the outer system in order to build a refuge for the U.S. population that would survive the flood.
There are blasters and phasers and sometimes he forgets what weapons the characters are using. There is a galaxy wide struggle with good and evil put in New age terms, though it's not clear on side the US space fleets are fighting. Congressmen fight hand to hand to end a mutiny, which is a hilarious chapter and a lot more.
There is so much insanity that you'll be amused in so many ways. The books got boring about three quarters of the way through. I lost track of why anyone was fighting, the good guys, the bad guys and the fate of the rest of the world. I never found out if angels are involved or Atlantis would rescue or conquer the planet. As long as I lasted though, it was funny until the joke got old.
This book was cheap, good thing for me. I'm glad I didn't spend a lot on something I didn't enjoy. Why did I not enjoy it? It's a question of style. It's written in a part effort to be funny and for me it was not.
A multi-planetary adventure which you will love as much as I did!
This is a 4-book set which you are sure to enjoy as many of the characters are all too human, with the inherent good and bad characteristics that come with being human. But do not be alarmed friends, aliens also abound in this series of space-faring events. Just because our MC has some trouble remembering things at first, the story will still enthrall and amaze the reader. Archaeologist Kaden Jaxx is forced to decode ancient writings, but he does not like what he finds, nor the consequences it may entail for planet Earth. The author has worked hard to hone his craft and it shows in the ebb and flow of his descriptions and world-building skills. The proper mixtures of suspense, dialogue, danger, surprises, battles, science, mysteries uncovered, all work to make this properly a five-star book.
Sparkling energetic writing, but weak characters and storyline.
The books are full of non-stop action, but in all that adrenaline rush I'm missing a bit more consistency and vision. The bad guys are just bad and a bit dumb, the good guys are clueless and spectators of their own story. The problem with the story is that it feels like all these ideas were just taped together as they came to the author and I was dissapointed because I like to read and see a global consistant vision that you hadn't noticed at first emerge from the bits and pieces. So all in all I was hooked for hours reading this, but I won't remember the book in three years.
This story began so simply and rapidly became so tangled that it was impossible to follow who was where and what weird powers they had. Even the purpose of the whole thing was obscure. The premise of removing all Earth's governors to a moon of Jupiter is ridiculous, and the fact that one piss-ant Colonel could create intergalactic chaos defies belief. I could go on, but I'd be wasting your time.
If you're really hooked on strange aliens and lots of bang-bang shooting, then go for it, but other than that, I wouldn't bother.
I don't really know what to make of this box set. I liked the premise of the legend of Atlantis being set in outer space and its ties to Earth. Then everything seems to become one great mess. Jaxx a main character seems to take forever to learn from his mistakes and bad decisions as were several others. The battles and fights were so so. I doubt that I'll read the final novel of this series.
It isn't often that I put a book aside unfinished but this is one of them. Largely reductive dreck written by a committee of stoners, this potpourri of scifi memes can't be saved by it's pilfering of ideas from original material and even if it could these two authors aren't up to the job. A Stargate/Star Wars mashup that is more train wreck than thrill ride. Gack.
Karan Jaxx has a destiny that will mess his mind, body, senses and life, but through twists and turns akin to barreling down a mountain on a hover board, Jaxx learns and grows and changes to meet that destiny, regardless of the cost to minimize personally - death.
It is very rare that I stop reading a book, but in this case I read about half of book one and couldn't continue. I'm not exactly sure what was the problem, maybe the characters were flat, or the plot unrealistic. All in all, it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't for me...
Great storyline,a good range of characters and a story that's keeps you hanging on the edge. If you like a good space opera you can't wrong with this series.
Brandon has done it again. I love his books. He writes a great story that has lots of action and great characters. If you like great space adventure you will enjoy this set.
A dam good read. It had me in trouble a few times due to reading when should be helping lol. A good yarn about earth, aliens and the human races destruction? Well I am already downloading the last instalment so must go as want to find out what happens next?
First four books in a great apocalyptic science fiction series involving bad guys, the government, secret space programs, pyramids, Atlantians, and aliens. What more could one want? Great series!
Thoroughly riveting with the answers to who built the pyramids and why. Terrible aliens, with equally terrible humans and vice versa. Now to satisfy my curiosity in how it is resolved in book 5.
First time I have read 3/4 of a box set and not cared anymore about weather the good guys or the bad guys win. Gave up on it. Didn't even read the end.
I read this book sometime back but don't remember exactly when. I recently started reading it when I realized I had already read it once and recalled the story.
Great premise and a good start. The downfall was weak characters and multiple pages about bongs... weed... and being stoned.. Too much garbage and not enough of the good story to keep reading.
Finished the quadrilogy. Now need to follow up with book five. A good read well written, easy to keep with all the characters and action. Well done Brandon Ellis.
This starts out as a Sci-Fi series with a decent premis and quickly becomes about the virtues of chi and opening the characters third eye. I have no issue with reading a story steeped in a religion if that was what I was planning on reading but I felt that it became the focus and the Sci-Fi aspect of the story incidental.
