Rate this book

In 2092, Jadd, a bright boy with white hair, lived with his mother. While he was walking, a dwarf stopped him and asked, "Where are you going with your cow, boy?"

Jadd replied, "I'm going to sell it and buy fuel with the money."

The dwarf rubbed his hands together and said, "What use is fuel to you? It runs out, and it produces annoying smoke. I'll make you a trade. Give me the cow, and I'll give you these magical grape seeds in this bag. They will sprout in one day into a vine that will reach up to the sky, and you will eat grapes from it for life. As for the vine stalks, you can burn them for warmth."

"How generous this dwarf is!" thought Jadd, not realizing the troubles these seeds would cause him.

This is a retelling of the classic story of "Jack and the Beanstalk" set in a futuristic world that explains the dangers of pollution and the benefits of solar energy. It's a fun and exciting story about a boy who learns to make wise decisions under pressure, a disappointed mother, and a kind-hearted giant who champions the weak.
