In a world without power, could you survive a brutal winter? When a freak animal bite sends Madison limping through snow drifts to the cabin, the Sloane family’s stable life is shattered. Rabies doesn’t wait for sunny weather. Without a vaccine, Madison will die, but Tracy braves the cold to search for a cure. She’ll save her daughter no matter what. If danger comes out of nowhere, would you shoot first? While out on a scavenging run, a gunshot pierces the frozen silence. Colt bolts for the street, finding blood on the ground and Walter missing. When his initial search turns up nothing, Colt must hunt the kidnappers down and save Walter before they finish the job. The end of the world brings out the best and worst in all of us. It’s a race against the clock for both Tracy and Colt. Can they find a vaccine and Walter’s location before the Sloane family is torn apart? Or will Tracy end up losing the two people she cares about most? The EMP is only the beginning. Hope Stumbles is book eight in the After the EMP series, a post-apocalyptic thriller series following ordinary people trying to survive after a geomagnetic storm destroys the nation’s power grid.
This series is so good, I can't wait for the next book to come out. The story was great, they overcome a lot of obstacles in this book. I read it all in one night.
This is book 8 with one more to go. With their spring planting they have a grea harvest. Colt, Larkin, Barry and Walker are all out either hunting or scavenging as the first of winter gets going. A man shows up at the cabin. They could tell he was high on something. Tracy knocks him out, they tie him up for overnight and then question him the next morning. He finally tells them there is a tent camp of fifteen, 3 which are kids, but it is up ruled by a woman Eileen who keeps them all in line by giving them drugs. She wants to come take over their cabin so she will have a kitchen to cook more drugs, this is just one of many problems in this book. It was really good, very action-packed, lots of twists and turns and surprises. Can’t wait to read book 9 to see how Harley Tate wraps up this great series.
I have enjoyed the series to this point and while I like that it ends with an alliance rather than the eradicate-the-bad-guys more common to the genre, they seemed to be able to form a friendship rather quickly given that Ben's group held some of "our" group prisoner, injured and even shot some of them. Dani's touch-and-go gunshot wound, so alarming at first, seemed to become not a big deal ("just keep off of the leg") very quickly. I'm also wondering why Ben's group, who took so much care to block the doors leading to the pharmacy, didn't bother to do the same with other ways into the area, assuming they weren't going through the morgue.
Coming to the end of this series, its like I want to start reading something else, something lighter. However, it's like I'm addicted to the dilemma, drama and the characters. I care for them as good neighbors on hard times but grateful just the same. I want to continue the story. I can't remember being into a storyline like this before and I'm an avid reader in my 70's. I realize I'm supposed to be telling about the storyline, and I'm going on about my personal opinion. The storyline is long and complicated, easy to comprehend, and Harley Tate is a spellbinding story teller and the pages fly by. I recommend her books.
I've read the preceding seven books in this series and enjoyed them. However, I don't think this book was up to par with the others. My biggest stumbling blocks--spoiler alert--was how quickly Dani and Taylor became chummy with the Jacobsons after the Jacobsons shot them; and, Dani's life-threatening gunshot wound seemed to resolve itself overnight leaving her perky and playing with the dog the next day. Lastly, given the level of looting/destruction since the EMP no one thought to take the stairs from the hospital's morgue into the pharmacy?
Spoilers: A hard winter, no electricity, a couple of unfortunate events & you having the makings of an EMP story. I really like the Sloane family. Weird things happen in life & being animal bit is not far fetched. I liked the things that got everyone in motion. The new family is a nice addition. How the story resolved itself seemed to happen too quickly though. We just shot your wife, let’s be friends. Still live this series a bunch. Thanks for the fun.

Their lapses while operating in sporadic panic while wallowing in a bit of self pity was annoying at times. Each time someone's lapse in focus led to injury or capture, I hoped the lesson was learned. Unfortunately, with the exception of Colt, Larkin, and Walter, the lesson seemed to fade quickly. Tracy got on nerves at times. The story is pretty good other than that.
When the country gets hit with an EMP which by the way was also referred to as a solar flare I always wonder what the rest of the world is up to. Are our friends not helping? Are our enemies not ready to pounce? Did the EMP stop at the Mexican and Canadian borders? I really dislike loose ends. Otherwise this is an outstanding series. If you like stories about the apocalypse then don’t miss this.
This was worth the wait. Colt and Dani are firm!t father and daughter now. In this episode, it was great to get to know Tracey better. have to admit love little Little and want to see that sweet dog continue as part of the story. I look forward to the next book and seeing where the beginnings of new alliances lead.
What I hate about post apocalyptic fiction with the characters living on the West coast. Almost a year in and they are able to find things they need.....even after it had been looted numerous times. I feel like I am reading a romance book with the happily ever after ending.
I got the first of this series as something to read while I waited for another writer. I was very happily surprised to find that this is an excellent series with characters I came to love. For anyone who likes a bit of a thriller! Enjoy and pass it on. We need more writers like this.
An HT. SYFY. Novel (A TEMP - 8)/Rabies/A Search For A Cure
HT. has. penned a SYFY novel, which is the 8th in the series of eight. One of the women is beaten by a rabid Fox. The hunt begins for the medicine to cure. During the hunt a large misunderstanding courts and the two different groups almost start a war. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Do as I have and fall in love with Dani, a neglected 14 year old, Colt, an Air Marshall, who save each other after a solar flare wipes out the electrical grid. Follow them and others through this wonderful series of survival and moving forward to start a new way of life. You will not be disappointed!
I've read the preceeding books in the series and enjoyed all of them. In a few moments I'll begin the next book, book 9, which I hope won't be the last in this series. I love the writer's style, stories, and characters, and highly recommend this series.
Thoroughly enjoyed the concepts presented for various Post -Apocalyptic survival and also the plots were well done and interesting. I found very few technical errors, so also well researched and presented. the concepts of survive at home vs travel to wilderness were well thought out, great description of probable societal breakdown. I an looking forward to more stories. Please keep writing.
It's always good! I've followed this story through 8 books and was never disappointed. Unfortunately I have read everything he has written in this genre, so keep up the good work and I'll be waiting!
I am so glad to read more about the Sloane family and this series. This is one of my favourite series ....realistic and not too much of a soap opera like some series in this genre are. Looking forward to more!
The characters are great and overall a great series; however, the story in this episode was a little weak. Harley Tate is one of my favorite writers of post-apocalyptic fiction.
An interesting addition to This series. New characters are introduced and it is good to visit The Clifton Compound again. Glad so far that all the characters have made it. Great 👍 addition to the series but can be read as a standalone novel.
Just completed book 8 of the series and they're all great. Harley Tate really makes you feel like a part of the Sloan's postapocalyptic family. Rooting for them to come out on top.
I have really enjoyed reading this series. It keeps you interested and keeps you turning the page to see what happens next. Likable characters and believable content. All in all very interesting story and well written.
I've read and enjoyed all the other 7 books in this series and was excited that book 8 came out. Really enjoyed reading further into what is happening in their lives. I hope book 9 comes out soon!
I have followed this group for all 8 books. The stories are very well written and pull you in with the very first book. You can't wait to see what happens next. Hope they will be a month book!!!
This whole series has retained my interest throughout. Invested in the characters, I certainly hope Ms. Tate continues the series, i also hope she continues the nuclear series too. Good writing, not too many errors, Wray more could we ask for?
Liked that the series followed up on all the people trying to survive in these hard times .keep me up late into the night wanting to know what will happen next .would recommend this series to any one who enjoys a clean action packed story.
It has been quite a while since I read books #1 through #7 of this series by Harley Tate, but it did not take long to get back into the story. This is a first rate story by a master of 'Life after an EMP'.
I was scared at one point in this book, but again, the author ended on a high note. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. I am so glad to find this series on Kindle Unlimited. Happy ☺reading 📚!
I enjoyed this latest instalment of the After the EMP series very much. There is a bit of realism in the Hope trilogy which is a bit scary it certainly makes you think what if? I can't wait to read the last instalment Hope Survives.
