What do a few stolen books have to do with the end of life as we know it?

More than you would think.

Drow princess Alison Brownstone begins her senior year ready to finally graduate and start her new life, fully trained and ready to kick ass.

But still reeling from the attack last semester, and the absence of her best friend, Alison is desperate for some kind of distraction to make the days pass quicker.

And trouble in paradise with boyfriend Tanner makes it even more vital.

When books start disappearing, she can’t resist digging deeper. After all, no one should be able to penetrate the gnome’s magical protection.

But going down the rabbit hole leads to truths far more dangerous than petty theft.

Without Izzy by her side, can Alison defeat the greatest challenge she’s ever faced before more lives are lost?

Worth the read

This whole series was a page turner, through the first books talked about Izzy, it felt more like Alison was the star, and this book in particular showed just how much she as grown, I’m really curious to see how far both characters will reach, because it’s not just Alison who has the potential to change things, Izzy does too.

kindle unlimited, once again ignore the blurb, actually if smart will ignore the book since major spoiler plus ongoing complaint that the blurb is not even really close to actual storyline, misleading and confusing and just plain wrong in areas AS USUAL, as is all the typos, grammar issues, continuity issues, and at the very end total stupidity when she leaves for winter holiday as she did without notifying anyone at the school of what all had went on and how it could impact her and/or the school etcetera, and trying not to do spoiler on story so that's why sounds so generalized.

For the first time, I'm slightly unsatisfied with an Alison Brownstone book.

Apart from it starting with a brief passage about James and Shay getting married in a quiet ceremony - something that sounds totally unlike that couple - but also, I'd just finished reading a James book where they weren't planning to marry for at least a year!

So, either my official Oriceran Reading List is wrong, or somebody didn't edit this book well enough.

But, apart from that, for some reason that I haven't quite worked out why, it didn't engage me as much as all the other Alison books have done.

That's not to say it isn't good, because it IS good, but it felt a bit hurried, and far, far shorter than previous books.

I've given it 4 stars, though, because it's still excellent writing - but it just feels as though it stopped halfway through the story that should have been told.

All that said, I'm not letting one slightly disappointing book put me.off, as I genuinely do enjoy these series. Also, I checked my Reading List, and I'm due to go back over to James' series again, to read book number seventeen: 'Horsemen Gather'.

I'll know, when I start this, whether the sequence of the Alison book was out of place, or whether it was an editing gaffe where James and Shay's wedding is concerned!

So, I'll finish this review, and I'll hurry on over there to make a start at reading this next book and, once finished, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought about it!

If you like the Harry Potter series you should check out this series. Magical mystical action-packed adventure

If you are a hairy Potter fan you should check out this series. It is a magical mystical action adventure urban fantasy that will entertain you from beginning to end. A great cast of characters a group of high school students going to a magical high school in the hills of Virginia. Yes there are similarities. And it is totally different. Do you have an old historic mansion and the grounds for the school. A headmistress a groundskeeper a dark magic teacher and many other magical teachers and male and female students learning together and bonding as they make their adventure through school. You have which is wizards many different types of elves and shifters of different kinds and many other different types of magical beings. It was a magical mystical romp threw the world of magic. Check it out

Love this series

I am so glad it will continue!! Alison and friends are trying to find the lost books and make a new friend a freshman. There is something about this freshman that they can’t put a finger on. You will have to read to see what I mean. Ok at my tallest I was 4’11” tall. I grew up in the country with two older brothers and all boy cousins. Yes I was and am a tomboy!! I played softball was my teams shortstop, ok you can stop laughing. I played racquetball and snow skied. I have always been strong and never asked for help. I got a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology when most woman had no idea what that was so yes I have been different too and proud of it!!

Yep, still reading this ya novel

First, and not?
Second, interesting characters, even if they are teens.
Third, interesting dynamics, letting things happen to one and all, and not always letting the expected save happen, Doryu and Scott, for instance.
Fourth, just a good tell, set against an expectation of a semester, with personal growth, issues, trying to decide what you're going to be when you grow up.
Just read them, if necessary take your mind off the troubles of the world.
And finally, read the da__ authors notes. They keep you thinking about life and it's many twists and turns.😺👍👢😁

Ok. I just wrote a review and it disappeared on me.

I felt this story was missing something with Izzie being gone. Alison still has Tanner to lean on, or does she? But I'm worried about her transition after graduation. She and Tanner will most likely end up on different paths, who ever I am hopeful for an Izzie and Alison reunion at some point.

The pace of this story went along well. Looking forward to see what happens with the shadow that was released when they made the pendant.

The gnomes are a great addition to the series. I love them, even when they are grumpy, strict. They are dedicated to their job if keeping information safe.

Poor louper team

I say knock her out of the game and win. Why be a martyr? Cost them the game. It was an interesting adventure. I still love dorvu. Missed Izzie. I thought she would at least send a few messages. One was not enough. I realize I am way to old to be reading these books as I have not been a YA in a very long time. I still don't get Jennifer's addition to the book nor the Aunt. Has me totally perplexed. Having said all of that. I liked that the kids were a little bit more like kids this book but found it strange that the teachers didn't help them in the end. I just love the decorations they do. I wish we all could do that kind of magic.

Average is Her Path would be more accurate. The story in this book is average and confusing at times. The writing is a little better than previous books, thus average again.

The problem is that the characters are way to casual with many things that they shouldn’t be. Killing the villain was without a doubt a good thing to do because of who he was and what he was doing. But the fact there is nothing said outside of snuffing out his life seems like the teenagers are just as dangerous to the public and callous about it.

Overall, I can’t recommend this as anything more than a read you should do for background on the Oriceran Universe.

Can’t wait till tomorrow! Allison’s almost all grown up and can stand against evil with her tight knit group they will change the world(statement stolen from their favorite red haired groundskeeper friend) even though this series is considered YA it is a great light read for us grownup s too especially since shay and brownstone are in it as well as leira and coric and our newly introduced connection to “ the dark arts magic teacher” hope to see more of everyone in other books Izzy too🙃

Great Book, Great Series

Alison is starting her senior. She misses Izzie her best friend. However, she has Tanner, her boyfriend. Dark magic follows a freshman girl she is trying to protect. Books are missing without a trace from the library. She goes into bounty hunter mode to find the culprit. I like the action and humor. The descriptions of the scenes make me feel like I was there. I look forward to the next book.

Senior year

Louper games, shopping at the Kemana, new students, more intrigue and mystery, exciting action, and the growing pains of self-discovery. Oh - and beating evil! Another excellent novel, the beginning of the last of Alison’s school years. We aren’t let down, and what an ending! Now to wait for the final book....

Determined

Alison is determined to follow in her father's footsteps. She will be a Brownstone and a bounty hunter. Bent on finding the culprit stealing books from magically protected places, she will finally find the unlikely thief and will need her friends to defeat a dark magic threat. Another excellent School of Necessary Magic book.

All is not well

Allison arrives back at school to find them still working on the damage to the building from the battle the year before. Izzie is not there for her late night walks, a freshman girl is sweet but seems off, and things between Allison and Tanner become tense. There is some fun, with friends like hers, he could there not be fun?

Alison, Christie

Alison Brownstone is in her senior year at the School of Necessary Magic. She is missing her friend Izzie. Alison meets Christie Bealls, a freshman, who seems to be flirting with dark Magic.

Characterization and plotting are excellent.
