When a wizard tasks Colin McCool with saving his world from a post-apocalyptic future, he’ll stop at nothing to complete his mission. With the clock ticking down to oblivion, Colin must face an army of vampires and a power-crazed magician—one who could end the young druid and his world, forever...
I’ve seen a lot of crazy stuff since I got clued into the paranormal world. Cannibalistic giants. Necromancers who could raise armies of the undead. Evil nature deities with an appetite for destruction. Old gods, and new.
But nothing prepared me for seeing the world descend into an undead apocalypse, in a future so bleak it gives me chills just telling you about it. Millions of lives, gone in the blink of an eye, and millions more turned into zombies, ghouls, revenants, and vampires.
In that future, humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. I know this because I was there. This crazy fae chronomancer took me there, right after my girlfriend broke up with me by throwing me through the windshield of a rare and expensive British sports car.
And it wasn’t even my car—I’d borrowed it from my best frenemy, Crowley.
Worst. Day. Ever.
The good news is, that future hasn’t happened yet. But it damn sure will come to pass, if I don’t find a way to stop it.
Now I’m chasing after a mad, power-hungry magician who stole an artifact so deadly, it was once used to kill a god. This jackass is in league with a coven of evil vampires, and I have it on good authority that they’re the ones who trigger the apocalypse.
So, all I have to do is fight my way through an army of deadly, elder vamps, and wrench one of the world’s most destructive magic artifacts from a wizard so powerful, he makes me look like a two-bit street magician.
Plus I have to find a way to get my girlfriend back, all while the clock is ticking on a countdown to Armageddon.
I wonder, do they sell apocalypse insurance? Because the way things are looking, I might just want to take out a policy...

M.D. Massey describes himself as the prototypical INTJ. His eclectic background provides him with a rich tapestry of experiences to draw on when crafting fiction, as evidenced by the believable worlds and relatable characters he creates.
As a former Army combat medic (91B), professional martial arts instructor (Krav Maga, JKD, FMA), and women's self-defense instructor, he possesses a unique understanding of close combat, firearms, and criminal violence that few authors can match. This knowledge provides an element of realism to the Druidverse™ novels, setting them apart from other fantasy series.
Mr. Massey lives in the Texas Hill Country with his family and a huge American bulldog that keeps him company while he writes. When he's not in his office or at the local coffee shop writing, you can find him in his garage pummeling inanimate objects or knife-fighting with his friends.
Junkyard Druid, what are we going to do with you? Colin is a Druid whose powers keep getting better. Locked in a desolate and dangerous post apocalyptic world for six mouths, he's having a hard time recovering his equilibrium. Now on a quest to stop the end of his world as he knows it, he jumps in to save the world. Using his new powers and knowledge, he bulls his way in to overwhelm and eliminate the enemy...and sometimes his frenemies...unfortunately. Too overwhelmed he throws away opportunities that will ultimately lead to the cliffhanger we are left with at the end of the book. Making new cohorts, trying to get his girlfriend back, ignoring and hating the new persona of his ex-girlfriend, Jesse now Dryad. Ignoring advice and new skills and power to use....what could go wrong? Find out as this series evolves and captures you so you can't put it down. Now all we to do is convince the author to hurry up with the next one in this series. I can't wait months to find out what happens to our Druid, Colin.
Another fantastic, fantasy adventure for hardcore enthusiasts of the genre. Lots of action, once again, with no holds barred. This book sucked me in, and I just could not put it down until I had read the whole thing. Gotta love the mischief makers in the world Beneath, but is Click trying to kill off our young druid-in-training, Colin McCool? Or is he just one of those who's into hard-core hands-on training? Because dumping Colin into the middle of a zombie apocalypse could go either way. Although, what good is a survival training session without a little murder and magical mayhem to truly hone Colin's battle skills. And, now that Colin has served his time in Click's school of hard knocks, it's time for him to buckle down and put all those new skills to good use. His old friend, the Eye of Balor, has plans for the world, and if Colin can't find it and stop it in time, there will be hell to pay. Literally. If the Eye has its way, the world as we know it will come to an end and the Undead will rule the earth. Handling all of this, even with Colin's 'full speed ahead and what torpedoes' type of tactics, will be a piece of cake compared to the other disasters looming in his future. The price tag on his head and, worst of all, figuring out just how to navigate the mine field made up of the many women in his life. Plus, the druid grove is dying because he can't bring himself to do what needs to be done (is THAT really the only way?) to claim it. Just what is a poor druid to do? Maybe M. D. Massey will answer that…and all the many other questions…in the next book.
Junkyard Druid just keeps getting better and better! With each book Colin learns new things, gains new enemies, and gets himself in more dire situations!
Colin is back, and the story is a bit more frantic. Doesn't feel rushed, but disappointing in the short length, not a critical remark, just a desire for more text. Really enjoying this series and looking forward to the next adventure.
Done. You leave him in that sort of situation.... Honestly. I just want to effing cry. Do you know what that last scene could do to people who have actually gone through something like that?!?!? Warn your readers. I feel like vomiting. Thanks for that
𝑫𝒓𝒖𝒊𝒅 𝑽𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, Book #7 in the Colin McCool series by M. D. Massey
When I vote something as low as 2 stars, it's usually because I found editing and/or proofing errors, the characterizations were off, the plotting and/or pacing was unremarkable, the action unbelievable, or I'm conflicted about something. This time I am not conflicted. Two stars. All those things I mentioned? They were just fine. But once again (and this is twice in a row) there is a cliffhanger ending. I abhor cliff hanger endings. I still am a fan girl of Colin McCool, but I refuse to give an author who is either (a) so insecure in his own writing ability that he thinks a good way to get someone to buy his next book is to end with a cliffhanger or (b) he is so unconcerned about his audience that he just does what he pleases, not caring what the audience thinks. In fact, it seems to me that I read a post of his somewhere saying that an author has the right to end his books the way he sees fit. That is so. And the readers have the right to say F*ck this, and refuse to purchase future books.
In this case I already have the rest of this series on my Kindle, and since I do like the main character, I probably will eventually read them. However, Massey has lost me as a reader of any other of his existing or future books. As I do have some I have already purchased, I will need to decide whether to give them away or to read them at a later date. Until that time, I will console myself with knowing that my 2-star rating will pull down the overall rating of this book wherever I chose to publish it.
So I'm really starting to have a love/hate relationship with this series. I'm invested in the characters and I want to know what's going to happen next, but it falls into a lot of the same tropes and cliches that drive me crazy. This series lives off of the main character having to keep a secret for one reason or another or not being able to use his full powers. The author also loves to use some form of "toothing a molar." I've never heard the phrase before in my life, but it's been said in every book so far. "Hella" is also found in every book. I know he's trying to make the main character sound like a millennial, but do they really sound like that? There were also a handful of grammatical errors. My biggest complaint though was that it just felt way to rushed. It started out at a great pace, but then by the end it just breezes through the climax like an afterthought. There are also a lot of plot points and ideas that are brought up and then forgotten about. All and all, if I wasn't reading these for free through Kindle Unlimited, I don't think I'd buy the next one.
The main character is still my favorite druid. He's changed a lot over time but his maturity has not solved most of his problems. He has a lot of enemies and the quirkiest, deadliest allies.
His relationships both male and female are full of tension, distrust and misunderstanding but he also needs all these friends to get his job done. The magic combined with the wildly different worldviews of the other characters makes an interesting story great.
He's survived so far and I hope he continues. The writing is great and you'll love the interactions of supernatural, humans and the inbetween characters. I'm looking forward to the next volume in the Druid universe.
Massey continues to move forward with the Junkyard Druid. The writing is good like always and the tale kept my interest beginning to end. My only at this point is that i got to the end and I really wanted the antagonist tho get his in a different fashion...more permanent I this case as like all good villains, I truly dislike him. Lo Worry the final scene though, I'm truly looking forward to the next book as that was kind off a surprise.
Glad I was introduced to this series. It continues to keep my nose to the page (or screen that is.). Great characters, nice setting, and a twisty, intriguing plot keeps me wanting more. (Waiting for me even as I type.). Plus, plus - one of my favorite series from a time so long ago it is hidden in the midst of time, Doc Savage popped up in passing towards the end of this book. Wow, Colin, reads Doc Savage. The man has good taste.
This is an excellent installment in the Junkyard Druid series. The plot continues to progress and the characters continue to grow. One character I hope will be done away with soon is Jesse, along with the complications she brings.
Should have had more Chuck Norris, but I am content. Still rolling my eyes at how many hot women keep throwing themselves at the protagonist in what's trying to be the 'woke' urban fantasy series, except when he beats his chest and goes all Punisher on people who hurt children.
Much better than the previous book, although I seriously wish that Colin McCool would do a little less with all the self pity. It is cue up to a point and then it gets so overdone. Also with all the girl trouble. But apart from that this book was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Still interesting. As others have commented, McCool can be too pigheaded for words causing his own problems. This can get a little old. Also, he continues to increase his personal knowledge and power and so far so good, but at some point this becomes a problem in stories going forward. But I am still reading and just received the next in the series. Onward.
Someone named McCool is guaranteed to be a dope and druid Colin McCool has got to be the biggest dope it's druid ever. Read it to find out how he managed to alienate everyone he knows, plus those who love him and still gets them to help him stop the zombie apocalypse.
Great Urban Fantasy: this book has all I look for in a good urban fantasy series: good characters, new interesting spin on magic that ties in old myths and legends, great plot twists in the mystery that unravels, and a touch of humor here and there. I'm hooked, and continuing on to the next book in the series! I recommend you do the same!
This has been a fun series that is getting progressively darker and more tangled with each installment. Plot is good, and mythical backgrounds are believable and hang on well-known contexts (Tuatha, Loa, were, vampire).
Colin continues to do what he does best, kick butt and take names. This book is faced paced and we see colin grow into his powers more and some other things. These get better with every book. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good series to start.
I love Colin McCool and all the characters in this series!I The story line keeps you engaged and interested and each and every time I find myself waiting very impatiently for the next book!
