Snowbound at Christmas

The tall, dark stranger needed Wren Matthew's help--and the shy schoolmarm couldn't turn away a man in distress. And although she'd sworn off men, she couldn't deny the sparks that crackled between them.

Keegan was a cop on a mission when sweet, lovely Wren rescued him from the storm. But the haven--and the love--he found in her arms was a happiness he couldn't last. Especially when he couldn't offer her the one thing she wanted: his heart.

Keegan by Lori Wilde is one of those romance stories that really touched my heart. You may want to grab a box of Kleenex before you settle in to read this incredible story. I know I sure needed a few Kleenex.

Wren Matthew is a strong independent lady with a whole lot on her plate. She has suffered the loss of her parents and the heartbreak of falling for the wrong man. She's not looking to put her heart out there again and it really hesitant to allow another man anywhere near her home or her heart.

Keegan Winslow has suffered a tremendous loss and is on the hunt for the man that caused that loss. He sure isn't looking for love. He is looking for a shelter from the storm for at least a night.

Wren isn't sure how far to trust this strange handsome man but she can't turn him away when he needs help. She helps Keegan when he needs it most. I enjoyed watching these to get to know each other. Neither is ready to open their heart and there is a lot standing in their way if they are going to take a chance on happiness again.

There is the perfect amount of drama, suspense, mystery, romance, and emotions to make this book a page-turner of a story. I finished this in one sitting because I just could not put it down until I found out what in the world was going to happen next.

Lori Wilde has a way with a romance story wheater is a sweet romance, like this one or a steaming hot romance. She is one of my must-read authors and I am always excited to see what she is going to come up with next for us lucky readers. I can not wait to read more books in the Texas Rascals series.

I was given the opportunity to read this fantastic story and it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you.

I wanted to like this book. The write-up interested me. The concept was intriguing. Two damaged souls coming together at Christmas time and having a holiday miracle.

However, the book is too depressing for me. There is also an unsettling edge of desperation to it.

There is such a thing as too damaged. The two main characters were so flawed that it was difficult to read. I found no joy in this book. None. I am not even sure why it was billed as Christmas book because it was so dark and depressing.

Wren fell instantly in love with Keegan and almost begged him to love her. She's that desperate. The way the author kept describing her as homely and the way she described her disability as making her ugly was jarring. Keegan wasn't much better. I found nothing to like about either character.

I made it to about the 60% mark and just couldn't stomach it anymore. I started skipping around and finally read the last chapter. Even the very end and epilogue, you know the HEA, was tinged with a gloomy cast. I was left feeling down and as if a heavy weight had settled on me after finishing this book.

If you're into that sort of thing, have at it. I prefer books that leave me feeling happy and with a smile on my face and maybe a tear in my eye when I'm done reading.

Good read

This is a previously issued story that has been updated and reissued. It still reads a bit old but it's a good story. Both Wren and Keegan have scars both physical and emotional but as these two strangers spend time together it becomes clear they could help each other heal. Recommended

Keegan by Lori Wilde
Texas Rascals Series Book One
Keegan Winslow is on a mission of revenge. He was after a man that he planned to kill. Keegan had become a cold, hard man. He shoved any feelings or humanity deep down so he could focus on his mission. Until one cold night in Rascal, Texas everything changed.

Wren Matthews had set herself apart. After losing her parents, making a bad choice that almost lost her the farm, and of course, her injury, she preferred to be alone. And she needed to find someone to help on the farm that preferred solitude as well.

A wonderful story. Two lonely souls who don't want or need anyone, find each other on an unusually cold winter night. They'd both lost the spirit of Christmas and miracles, but this season, they may find more than they knew they were looking for.

Good read

This book is almost pure angst. She has a bad limp from an accident and tons of emotional baggage. He lost his wife and child in a fire set by a criminal and can only think of revenge until he meets her. It's written very well, but a little too emotionally draining for my taste. If you like a lot of very heavy baggage, then this one's for you.

I haven't the time to review every book I read but this one deserves special recognition. Two lonely broken people encounter each other during a major storm on the Texas Trans-Pecos. The man seeks shelter in the woman's home and for almost the entire story it is just the two of them and how they grow from mistrust to a bond stronger than they thought they could ever achieve. The author masterfully treats us to the age-old mystery of the romantic lure of the unlikely couple. The woman gives the man her heart while the man's heart continues to be encased in ice. The man is seeking revenge on a fugitive from justice and does not want to involve the woman but she gradually turns him from hatred to the possibility of a special love. The climax and subsequent suspense could be cut with a knife. A most beautifully wrought tale of revenge, redemption and full-throttle romance.

Characters talked to themselves a lot (I often felt like they should just think stuff instead of saying it out loud) and it got on my nerves.

This was a contemporary but to me it almost read like a historical as there’s very little technology mentioned. A few tweaks and this could pass for a western.

Also the talk of god and prayer was unexpected as this doesn’t appear to be marketed as an inspirational romance. I’ve read this author before and never found this in her books so it was a surprise and not my cuppa. That was the point that I quit and just skipped to the last chapter to see how it ended.

Cute, sweet story. Glad it wasn't drawn out like some other romance books. One part towards the end was very weird and out of left field but I still enjoyed it. 3.5 stars!

A Lovely Second Chance at Love 💕

Keegan is an easy-going romance with a smooth transition from page to page. The story is well written and balanced and I loved the fact it did not drag on nor was it to the point where it felt as if something was missing.

If you're looking for a second chance of love romance Keegan is the novel to read.

Naivní, ale moc hezké. I když příběh nacpala do tří dnů.
Wren je 29 let a je učitelka. Po třech dnech ví, že hrdina je hrdina a ne zloduch, i když jsou všechny důkazy proti němu. (s. 123)

Na konci .
To snad nebylo nutné.

Dost pochybuju, že by voják/policajt jen tak odhodil zbraň a šel do pole.

s. 140 Uchopil hlaveň oběma rukama a strčil mu ji přímo pod bradu.

„Jdi zatopit v krbu...“
Znovu?

s. 106 by ji mnělo vyděsit

This is the first book I have ever read from Lori Wilde and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found that she writes where you don't have to guess what the character is feeling she lets you know. The story was really good and I found that I got into the story easily.

Keegan is a man possessed by problems from his past. Wren is a woman who has been living with her problem for too many years alone. She has decided to start and look out for others and stop just fixating on her own problems.

When Wren meets Keegan she doesn't trust him but she knows he has problems whether from his past or just mental problems she's not so sure of in the beginning. When she discovers that the problems must be from his past she wants to help him.

Him seeing his dead wife was a little hooky to me but I'm sure that some people feel that they got permission from a dead spouse before. Keegan is then free to try and live in the present and stop looking back.

Lori had my full attention until then but I figure that she gave Keegan a sign and that is what he needed to continue his life.

The book was really interesting and you keep turning the page to see what happens next. This is not the last book of hers that I intend to read. I recommend this book as a start to her colllection.

The h was annoying. This whole book was annoying. Just repeat "I'm a cripple no on would love me" or "I'm too dark for her" over and over again and you have this book. She works on a dairy farm but doesn't know how to use a gun? But she used that gun to shoot snakes? Surely you have to know how a gun works if you can shot things with it.
Then we have the H (Keegan, obvs) who lost his wife and daughter to a bad guy. Who he is stalking to get justice for his wife and daughter.
I started skimming because it's just so repetitive.
THEN (Spoilers)
You find out the bad guy has been hiding in the cellar. How? What was he eating? How was he not frozen to death?
This is just after the H left and dude sets the h's house on fire (because he did that to the H's fam) but it somehow doesn't burn down and the H and h go home that night.
Okay. Totally not a big fire?
This book made no sense.
It's supposed to be a Christian book, so no sex and only two brief mentions of God. Not worth it.

Can 2 injured hearts find love?

The first book in the series was a great start for holiday reading. Unusual weather has hit her hometown when Wren, a single schoolteacher and dairy farmer encounters a homeless man on her doorstep. She decided to let him stay in the barn lift after he helps with the milking chores.

When she goes to the barn in the morning to milk the cows, she finds Keegan delirious with a high fever. She manages to get him to the house in her spare room and starts caring for him.

He's a former cop who's been tracking the fugitive who set fire to his house, killing his family. The fugitive's half brother lives in the area . Keegan finds footprints in the snow around Wren's barn and is curious. Found it her he fugitive he's tracking?

You'll want to read this to find out. It's a bit of romance and mystery wrapped up in holiday cheer.

If you love clean, inspirational stories set against the back drop of Christmas, Lori Wilde's Keegan (Texas Rascals) is the perfect read. As Wren answers a knock at her farmhouse door, she has no idea how opening that door will lead her to face her wildest fears, greatest humiliation and deepest hurts. Keegan is traveling through each day by merely putting one foot in front of the other as he seeks revenge for a horrific crime that left him scarred and hollow. As Wren and Keegan fight for their individual survival against the odds, a Christmas miracle will shed love's healing light on them both and forever change the course of the road they travel forward from one all important Christmas Day.

Wren living up in the mountains, one day sunny and next cold. The dairy farm was over whelming, but didn’t want to sell, and move to town. With teaching and running the farm, she did need help. With the sparse country good help was almost impossible to find. A knock with a man saying he was stranded, didn’t blame her for not letting him in, the barn would be warm, and looked inviting, The ruckus from the cows she had to go out there, they needed milking. And what of the man he was cold and wet, while she just had hot soup. All is quiet in the barn, all safely in their stalls. They both have physical pain, and loners. Needing help would she still turn him away in the morning. A nice story to read of second chances.

This was a great story about two completely different people who are lonely, determined, and looking for an end to their journey. Wren Matthew was working her families dairy farm by herself and feeling downtrodden. Her parents were killed in an accident that crippled her but she was determined to keep the farm no matter what she had to do. Keegan Winslow was a cop that was after a guy who murdered his wife and daughter. He was on a mission and nothing was going to get in his way, not even a lonely woman he met during a snow storm. After his s car died, He needed help but she was afraid of him until she realized how sick he was from traveling in the cold and rain. It was her compassion that made him see her as a strong woman, not a cripple. This was a great story.

It was...okay.

There was enough substance to the storyline that I had no trouble focusing on the book. There's nothing worse than a story, no matter the genre, falling flat, making it too linear. The plot was fairly predictable. 😳

What I did find annoying was when the author kept identifying Wren's herd of Holsteins as cattle. Cattle is raised for BEEF! Wren clearly had a dairy farm. The other detractor was the author's constant use of vocabulary dating back to the 19th century. At times, I felt as if I was reading a Western romance. It trended as very old-fashioned. I don't dislike that genre; however, it became annoying after a bit, and rather confusing.

Definitely not one to add to my collection.

If you’re reading this book for smut, there isn’t any. Though there is a good story. I thought it was sweet, it just wasn’t really my thing. I read a Christmas novel in April because I needed something warm and cozy though, and this was that. There were things I liked and did not, I like the characters. I like the stubbornness. I didn’t like that the interaction with the villain felt like two pages and was done with. And though there had been an epilogue, it didn’t say anything about the house. Is the house okay? Did the fire get put out? What happened with the bad guy? I’m left with unanswered questions.

Keegan - Texas Rascal - Book 1

This book was unexpectedly better than I had expected. Ended up being a really good read. Grammar was great! So nice to read without having to mentally correct a writer’s grammar. The storyline was also better than I thought it would be. Lone girl trying to keep her family’s dairy farm after losing them in a wreck and leaving her with a permanent injury. Her decision to help a stranger, ended up healing them both. Also has a little mystery and drama included. So well rounded out.

Enjoy.

I really tried to like this book but it is nothing more than a pair of physically, emotionally damaged and insecure individuals that come together at the very end has no substance whatsoever. It beats you over the head how each one feels and their insecurities over, and over, and over, and over, you get it? Even the ending is miserable when it should be a happy moment. If the author had expanded on the storyline and edited out some of the million identical thoughts and feelings, it could have been a good one with a bit of substance.

Keegan: A Forced Proximity/ Contemporary Western Romance (Texas Rascal Book 1)

I just loved this book! Sad that Keegan suffered so much hurt and pain. I couldn't wait to see what would happen between Keegan q Wren! The suspense from what was going on when Heller showed up...right after Keegan had left Wrens house to look for Heller just about made my nerves bounce all over the place! To say the excitement was jam packed and thrilling is to say the very least!!!! Fabulous read! I enjoyed it so much. Thank You for a Wonderful Story! Sincerely Pamela Haws
