A famous lost journal that points to a hidden temple.

A shadowy organization that will kill anyone to find it.

A woman who will do whatever it takes to get there first.

Josephine Bennett — Jo to everyone but her family and closest friends — is Harvey Bennett's (of the Harvey Bennett Mysteries series) youngest cousin. An archeologist with an attitude, she wants to find what G.E. Kinkaid's diary is pointing to.

"A cross between Indiana Jones and Lara Croft."

Kinkaid's diary chronicles his incredible expedition into the Temple of the Snake, deep in a cave in Arizona.

...A temple that has Egyptian hieroglyphics and artifacts that could change the history of not only the United States... but of the entire human race.

The journal is the key to finding the cave and the temple, but Axel LaFitte and a shadowy organization are willing to kill to get into the temple first.

Why? No one knows.

Follow Jo's quest to find the temple, figure out what's inside that is worth killing for and stay alive! If you love Raiders of the Lost Ark and National Treasure, you're going to LOVE Jo Bennett!

Super cool, heart-in-your-throat fast moving adventure! Jo Bennett is a sassy mouthed archeologist heroine with a smooth, handsome archeologist sidekick named Jake. With only a small touch of romance, they get into more trouble than ... oh, just buy the book!

Temple of the Snake - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A rip-roaring adventure in the Lara Croft Tomb Raider tradition, Temple of the Snake by Nick Thacker and David Berens introduces Jo(sephine) Bennett - definitely not one of Jane Austen's irrepressible romantic heroines!
The tale of derring-do begins with the discovery of a hidden diary's description of the whereabouts of a mystical Snake Temple that contains a treasure like no other. Our heroine and sidekick/soon-to-be-lover, James set sail immediately and are soon embroiled in a battle to the death with arch-enemy Axel LaFitte and his henchmen, who are willing to go to any lengths, (including murder) to complete the hunt for the secret of the Temple of the Snake within!

Who will survive and will they complete the mission in one piece? Get your copy today and don't forget your Indiana Jones hat and bullwhip!

The debut of a spellbinding new heroine.

Jo Bennett bursts onto the scene in the Lara Croft style in this mesmerising first book in a new series. Nick Thacker fans will know the adventures of Harvey Bennett, our heroine's uncle from previous Nick Thacker blockbusters. His niece Jo makes a riproaring entrance in this gripping new series co written by David Berens. Fans of Australian author Matthew Riley will recognize a similar style and certainly revel in this thrilling new series.

This is the start of an exciting new archeological thriller series. Jo Bennett is a great, strong protagonist, with very human foibles. You will be looking for the next book as soon as you close the first!

Jo Bennett is a professor, and archeologist, at Arizona University. Teaching may be a great way of gaining stability, but she yearns for the field. Somehow she finds a balance.

She inherited a journal from an explorer in the early 1900’s which hints at the location of a temple in the American desert with Egyptian artifacts. She devotes her spare time trying to decipher it. If she could make this find, her reputation in the field would be cemented.

This journey, in which she is joined by her supervisor at the college and a brilliant grad student, starts to become much more dangerous that she ever imagined. There is a rich and unscrupulous man after the journal. This becomes a race of life and death to the finish. Who will win? Can the side of the morally uncorrupt come in first?

Kinda disappointed

The write-up sounded interesting. However,... I understand this is the first book in the series but I feel we should have had some background on the characters. Why does Jo have such an adversarial relationship with LaFitte? Do they have some history?
Jo falls in love with Jake very very quickly. Most people don’t go from casual flirting to being in love within a couple of pages. A couple of times the snakes screamed. Snakes hiss, not scream. Several times it was noted that the Sphinx was missing parts. That happened when Napoleon invaded Egypt in 1798 and his soldiers shot off the nose. Jo is all upset over the fact they have no proof of the Temple. What happened to the piece of pottery she picked up and put into her backpack? Plus I don’t like cliffhanger endings. Not really tempted to read book two of the series. I gave the fourth star because I was in a good mood.

Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones

A terrific read. All based on what was reported in the 1909 newspaper about a find in the Grand Canyon. A find of pyramids and hieroglyphics. Is it a hoax - maybe but there seems to a lot of evidence to suggest that the people were real as was the find. This is a rip-roaring, fast action plot with a similar theme to Raiders of the Lost Ark. The main difference is that the strong, able lead is a female but like Indy she too has an aversion to snakes. Wonderful larger than life characters with the heroes really being heroic whilst the baddies are really bad. But have they seen the last of the baddies?
A journal, a plea from local Native Americans has our heroine racing to save a lost temple from being stripped of its treasures by a greedy baddie. Throw in snakes (lots of snakes), murder, kidnapping, secret mazes, rooms ad legends for a really adventurous read.

A female Harvey Bennett?

This story is imbued with archeology as it deals with Jo Bennett, a cousin of Harvey's, and her tale as she investigates an historical myth detailed in a diary of Harvey's. The tale is based around Colorado and refers to an old Indian tribe and the existence of a long hidden temple passed down in the folklore of the tribe. Not surprisingly, there is an 'evil' person who seeks to pillage the temple for their own benefit. Romance, intrigue, fights, mazes, Egyptian relics and snakes play a big role in this exciting story. Looking forward to the next part....

Temple of the Snake (Jo Bennett Archeological Mystery #1), my first read from the collaborative efforts of authors Nick Thacker & David F. Berens and the first book in Jo Bennett Archeological Mysteries. “I purchased a Kindle copy of this book back in October of 2018, lost track of it, and am just now getting around to reading it when I discovered Tomb of the Queen (Jo Bennett Archeological Mystery #2) and am voluntarily leaving a review.I look forward to reading more in this series, in fact, I'm already trying to find Tomb of the Queen (Jo Bennett Archeological Mystery #2). Interesting Thriller About an Old Legend

This story is crafted loosely on an old legend in the American West which is believed to be so far a fictional tale. The lead character of this story is Jo Bennett, in the Lara Croft mold. This is a fast paced engaging story that I really enjoyed.

This was pretty much of a roller coaster book. When it hit highs they were pretty good highs, but when it went into the valleys; it pretty made gouges in the soil. I had gotten a copy of the book free from Amazon and would be tempted to read the second book in the series if I also got it free. I don't think that I would be willing to pay money for a copy.

Rattled.

Jo Bennett seemed a little too gung-ho at times, probably due to her age but I did find it annoying at first. She did grow on me quite quickly after that though as the story progressed and the tale of the temple was revealed.
I ended up reading it late into the night, not wanting to wait to find out how it ended.

Super book! Great read and as usual hate to get to the end! I love the Harvey Bennett series and the potential for storylines is very interesting. This book exceeded my expectations, I love the characters, but don't want Jo to settle down yet. Very clever weaving of historical theories - can't wait to see what comes next.

The origin story for Jo Bennett grabbed me from the beginning due to its root story of the temples in the Grand Canyon found by G.E. Kinkaid. This action-packed story contains well developed characters along with a very well crafted story. I’m looking forward to the future Jo Bennett stories.

“The Temple of the Snake” is an adventure enthusiast’s dream book. A brilliantly written nail-biting thriller filled with an intriguing plot, excitement around every corner, and some really delicious characters. If you are familiar with Nick Thacker’s Harvey Bennett series (if not shame on you) Jo, the lead character, is Harvey’s cousin. Jo calls him Uncle because their age difference. The adventure begins with Jo being shot at by an assassin(s). In her attempt to escape she loses some of the content of her backpack, which includes her med kit and Uncle Ben’s secret journal. She is hiding behind a large bolder trying to think of how best to retrieve the notebook and escape. Well things do not go well but as fate would have it Jo is able to fling herself off a cliff hoping that she hits the river and not rock. Escape successful. Jo is an archaeologist in the making and teaches at the University of Arizona. While on a dig at the Roger’s Canyon Ruins, Jo’s boss finds a small fragment of pottery with what looks like Egyptian writing. How is this even possible? Similar writing was found in Cairo. And now the adventure begins. This book is filled with local history and legends that weave into the fabric of the plot. It is a page turner, so get comfortable and ride the waves of exciting entertainment. I am praying that there is a sequel coming soon, please, please, please.

A New Character Has Made an impressive Entrance

Jo Bennett, cousin to Harvey "Ben" Bennett, has hit the scene with a possible love interest and a sharp mind for getting out of tight spots. Interesting and Educational at the same time. A must read book.

Waste of time reading

Spell check is not the same as proof reading the manuscript. I found a lot of plot errors. How many can you find?
