Black Rose Mystery #5

Sinister Secrets

Rate this book
After regaining consciousness from an unfortunate encounter with Krestel, the evil witch of the Great Shadow Mountains, Private Investigator Fiona Monreau finds herself dumped in the middle of the woods, awakening with a splitting headache, wiped memory, and only one Manolo Blahnik. And just when she thinks things can’t get worse, she stumbles onto Joel Davis, a former FBI trainee… with a bullet in his head. Unable to get him off her mind, Fiona spends her “recovery” chasing down clues and uncovering a super-secret society where money and greed run like water and secrets are enough to kill for.

Known around the FBI as “Scrapper” for his short temper and aggressive competitiveness, Noah Fox travels to the small, creepy town of Devil’s Den to investigate his comrade’s murder, only to find himself toe-to-toe with his former student and one-time makeout partner, the badass, fearless Fiona Monreau. Sparks instantly fly between them, and when Fiona begins to unravel the sinister group responsible for multiple dead bodies, Noah fears Joel’s murder might not be the only one he’ll have to investigate.

The countdown to the next full moon and Krestel’s demise is ticking, but Fiona has a murder to solve first… before she gets sucked into a dark web of secrets, and this time, never comes back.

Sinister Secrets is book five in the Black Rose Mystery series.

Getting James Bond vibes from this hero. 😍 A well written novella. A suspense, action, police, FBI, PI, murder investigation. With a pinch of steamy romance.

Fi and The Fox

Sinister Secrets is book five of the BRMS. This is Roxy's assistant Fiona's story. You have to read books one thru four to understand five. Fi found a dead former colleague on cliff after she was kidnapped by K. Fi went though FBI training and passed top of class but never became an agent she went to work for BRI. Her former trainor Sexy Noah Fox shows up at her house he is six plus feet of muscle, tattoos and weidling power. Together they will find the killer and eachother. Chemistry is explosive and Fox is one sexy beast. Luke is still my favorite male character. The story ends on a small cliffhanger so I assume we will get Ace and Harley's story. I wish the author would mention the relationships from the previous books. Is Raven and Zander still dating? Roxy and the Chief? Scar and Luke? Dix and Liam ? There is no mention of any of the previous relationship you would think since the team is like family they would want their leading men involved and helping. That's why I can't do five stars. Maybe in the future books the author could mention or inform the readers what's happening with the previous couple's . Happy Reading 📚

A hitman, a hooker and a politician...

No it's not the introduction to a joke, but the suspects in a murder!
Noah is determined to solve his friend's murder but will he like all the answers he gets? As a renowned FBI Agent he knows that's unlikely, and whilst he struggles with knowing that, his biggest struggle during this investigation is Fiona. She is his kryptonite, the only woman who rattles his control and feeds his need, she has teased his memory for the last decade...but has he remembered it being more than it was? The minute he sees her he knows, she is far more than the memory, everything between them will be better, hotter, sexier...because she is his. He just has to keep his hands to himself until he solves the murder...easy right?
I love this series, please, please, please tell me Ace and Harley get their books and we finally get to see Krestel destroyed! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Sinister Secrets is another fabulous romantic suspense by Amanda McKinney. Ms. McKinney has delivered another book that is well-written with a stellar cast of characters. Fiona wakes with only one shoe, no memory and a headache and doesn't know where she is. As she tries to find a way out instead she finds a body. Noah arrives in Devil's Den when he learns ex FBI agent Joel Davis has been murdered. Noah and Fiona's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved this book as much as the 4 before it and look forward to reading more from Amanda McKinney soon. Sinister Secrets is book 5 of the Black Rose Mystery Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I was expecting more from this story. I was hoping it included the conclusion of the Witch factor, a theme I really haven’t care for, but want to see how it ends.
As with all the books in this series, the stories don’t go below the surface. The romance is more lust than love. No updates are given on the past couples current relationships. The main couple was well matched in this book. Though, the suspense plot was average, and certainly didn’t hold my interest.
I find it hard to believe the same author that wrote the very intriguing Berry Springs installments, also wrote this mediocre series. Once again the book ends with a cliffhanger.

“I’ve got a few more moves I can show you.”

Special agent Noah never forgot his best kiss ever with recruit Fiona, and she didn’t either. Now he’s in town 10 years later to solve another agents murder that Fiona stumbled on. Politicians, murder and a witch’s coven.... Oh my!! Awesome read! Enjoy!!!

I read this series in two days! I loved that there was some history between Fiona and Noah and their connection had a solid foundation. I do wish there was a little more focus on the Krestel-narrative since this is the golden thread in the series. I felt like it was thrown in here and there to remind the reader of the actual mystery. Other than that it was still a major page-turner!

This is Fiona and Noah's story Fiona a ex FBI agent and Special agent Noah Fox FBI. Both with a past kiss at the wrong time in their lives. The story begins with Fiona finding a dead FBI agent and Noah coming to town to investigate the murder. Mystery murder and Love ensues. Please Amanda say there is at least one more book to finish off Kesterial.

Another good one!

Lots of mystery, sexy men, and tough women. What more could you ask for in a book. I liked the ending. There was just enough closure and just enough questions to make you want to read the next one!

Another great book in this series!

Fiona is the main female of the Black Rose team in this novella. It involves her FBI days and agents she knew there. It is another exciting, thrilling, tense investigation, ending in a scary chase finale.

This was good to read...fun, quick and with just enough suspense to keep you guessing. I hope there is a book 6 as there are several issues that weren't resolved from the underlying issue of all five books.

Great series

With each book it just gets better, would love to see more of the men in the girls lives show up in the books. The only complaint I have is the ending of book 5 and not seeing any info for the next book, not sure I can wait!

Enjoyed the mystery in the book, but the romance seems forced. But I'm ready for Harley and Eve's story!!!
