TWO BROTHERS, ONE INHERITANCE. A CLASSIC DARK TALE OF DECEIT AND REVENGE FROM THE GRAVE. Who would dare unlock the secret of Deadwater House? The rumour had cast a black shadow over the village for as long as anyone could remember. Who was the ghostly child that watched from the window of the Denham-Granger family mansion? The truth would turn out to be far worse than any of the locals could ever have imagined. Whatever had been caged for so long wanted revenge and now it was hunting its prey down. Only one person stood in the way, reluctant local policemen, Gordon Chisholme. Soon he would have to face the truth. It had already turned its attention to him, and he could feel its icy grip reaching out to make him the next victim. Deadwater, an atmospheric horror story with a shockingly dark twist.
Deadwater, by Richard M. Pearson was a novel with a decent enough premise. The beginning did get my attention, but the writing style is what honestly threw me off. Every single word was used in every. single. sentence. The punctuation was all over the place, so that you had to figure out when one character stopped talking, and another started. I honestly lost track of almost all of the characters' names with the struggle to get through the writing.
Again, the idea wasn't bad, imho, but the execution of the writing could really have benefitted from a good editor.
I really tried to give this a go but 33% I had to give up. The punctuation in this book is so confusing, I can't work out when the characters have stopped talking. The author uses inverted commas once at the start of the conversation but mostly never at the end. The dialogue is a bit weak & unbelievable also. This could be a good book but the punctuation was difficult for me.
Enjoyed this story. It was quite funny at times, not quite as scary ad I would have liked but interesting plot and characters. I imagine Gordon and Imelda went to happily ever after land, couldn't have been any other finale, right?
Anything that kept me up until 1am to finish is excellent in my opinion. There may have been editing errors but the plot kept me captive. Well done Richard.
