Halfway Unwrapped

Rate this book
Something stinks in Halfway, and it isn’t a rotting pumpkin. As Halloween grows closer, monsters begin emerging from the ground. Their beastly purpose is unknown to Carlie, but not to a group of tourists who have come to Halfway for the holiday. The visiting women look innocent, but bad things are happening wherever they go and their trail leads back to the one place that Carlie never wanted to see again. From the depths of a toxic spring danger will break free again, and this time, there’s more than just the town of Halfway at stake. For Carlie, Gran and Wulfric, the most important event in the history of their lives is just around the corner, but they don’t know it yet, and neither do the strangers who would tear Halfway apart in the name of black magic. Some things won’t stay buried, but with her charms and a shovel, Carlie will bury the past once and for all.

Left-handed. Herder of cats and dogs. Lover of pie. I write books. I've had an unhealthy fascination with dragons since the age of-- well, for a while. Native Floridian. Current Tennessean. Carlie is the best friend? That loyal, sarcastic, fight your mutual enemy to the death friend that you can sit and watch movies with or people watch with. Her relationship with Wulfric is fantastic and her interactions with Gran are just hilarious. The three protect Halfway from evildoers and so when unknown paranormals start attacking the town, Carli finds that the source is the spring they thought was destroyed months ago. Now they have to figure out who is using bad magic to create mummies and other dark magic creatures and stop them in order to protect the town.

The writing continues to be fun, fast paced, funny, with great characters you want to know and care about. A great addition to the series.

The Halfway Witchy series is one of my favourite comfort reads, it's a novel length advert for small town living. Meeting up with all my favourite characters and seeing how they're getting on in the surprisingly magical mountain town of Halfway is good for my soul!

Carlie is maturing fast as she shoulders more of the McEwan family responsibilities of guarding Halfway, including how to let her family and friends support her. She's a fantastic main character, though I find her quirks detract a little bit too much from how powerful she is - it always comes as a surprise at the end of the books when she kicks evil's ass!

I don't think it's a spoiler, given then cover, to say that this book has a mummy in it - but I could have done with so much more of it! It's a tough line to tread, enough action to character interaction, but on this occasion I could definitely have done with more action and backstory for the monsters involved. Not at the expense of a single other word in the book though... as I said, tough line to tread!

I love Maggert's writing style, every single character has their own funny quirks and the dialogue is always hilarious - I just want mooooooore.

Imagine a world tucked back in the Adirondacks where everyone has got your back, your favorite diner serves amaaazing waffles, and magic happens. This is the world of Halfway. After running into a magic mushroom that wasn't one bit entertaining, book five sees Carlie and the gang out to find the source of the bad juju that is disrupting their town. And I didn't feel the least bit sorry for the poor fools when they found them.

Seriously, this series is like reading Scooby Doo but with a badass cat and real witches and monsters where Daphne and Fred are fiercer than ever. The stories tend to fall somewhere in the middle of cozy paranormal mystery and full-on grudge match while still keeping it light.

If you're looking for heavy, dark, and disturbing this is not that book. Halfway is all about protecting the things and people you love. It's family and it welcomes you in.

Witchy indeed

I gave this book 5 stars because of Carlie, wonderful quirky gal, funny to boot too. All the characters in halfway are unique I found myself falling in with the group getting to each like a friend. I loved the villains, the wisps, sprites, with their sleek, tiny, vicious!! Loved this book, this series. Finished the series in 2 days.

I love the Halfway Witchy series by Terry Maggert. I read the previous four books and happily added Halfway Unwrapped (Halfway Witchy Book 5) to my TBR list as soon as Terry Maggert released it. Here are my thoughts!

Synopsis (from the author):

What I liked:
Like the rest of the series, Halfway Unwrapped feels like a visit to an old friend. Carlie, Gran, Wulfric, and the rest of the recurring characters are warm and familiar and out to protect Halfway in their unseen ways. The adventure is good, the writing excellent, it has great pace. Overall, an entertaining read!

What I didn’t like:
Despite all the good things in Halfway Unwrapped, I had a few issues with the book. First, the story seemed a little disjointed to me and didn’t flow as well as the others in the series. Secondly, the threat to Halfway was odd and the connection between the mushroom men and the strangers didn’t make much sense to me. Lastly, the ending, though unexpected, felt rushed.

Overall impression:
All in all, I enjoyed Halfway Unwrapped (Halfway Witchy Book 5) by Terry Maggert. The familiar characters, good writing, and unexpected ending made it a fun read, though I didn’t like it as much as the previous books. If you’ve read the rest of the series, pick this one up. If you haven’t what are you waiting for?

Halfway Unwrapped is book five in the Halfway Witchy series and it just keeps getting better and better.

By now, you know and love our main character, Carlie, our waffle making, coffee loving shorty of a good witch who takes care of her town, Halfway, with the help of her grandmother, Gran and a few other people. Oh, can't forget her judgemental cat, Gus.

You can't help but love this series with the magic, the friendships, relationships, crazy things that happen.

Mr. Maggert is a weaver of words. The story grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the end. By the end, you're needing the next story because you're not ready to leave the magical world of Halfway.

The feeling of love, family and friends make you feel as if you're right there in the story, battling the bad guys, embracing the love from those around you and wondering what's going to happen next. You can't go wrong by reading this series, especially if you love witches and everything that goes bump in the night.

There are books I've read where the characters have been good, but not great. This is not one of those books. I love these characters and I enjoying watching Carley's character arc throughout each book. She's one of those characters that I want to take out for a beer and just sit and chat. You won't be disappointed in this book, but I think it would help to read some, if not all, of the others in this series.
