Quicksand #1

A Powerful Attraction

Rate this book
They were only supposed to have dinner… On a Friday night, dressed to impress, Sherry Westbrook gets stood up. She could go home, but why waste a new outfit and well-done hair? She decides to dine alone, but then her boss shows up, and now she doesn’t have to. Alex Barraza takes the place of Sherry’s date, and at the end of dinner, they spend the night together—bringing to life a fantasy that has played out in his mind over the past two years. One night together isn’t enough, and before long they embark on a secret affair that takes them both by surprise. But Alex hasn’t been completely honest with Sherry, and when she finds out the truth, he knows he’ll lose her. So instead of the truth, he stays silent. Because now he’s in too deep, and he can’t let her go. (Quicksand is a series of stand alone stories based on love, sex, and romance. Why Quicksand? Because love pulls you in. The more you fight, the deeper you fall. You can't fight your way out of quicksand, and you can't fight your way out of love.)

The blurb captured my attention and I wanted to see what the big secret was.

So the secret is

DNF'd after this part because I just didn't care to read further. This is a short & very insta-love type of story.

Before I start reading a book by a new to me author, I almost always read some reviews before I fully decide if I'm going to read it. Every once in awhile I'll decide to be a rebel (Ha! Such a rebel) and go in blind. Sometimes it works out great. Unfortunately, this was not one of those times.

While the writing wasn't horrible, the story itself wasn't my cuppa. I'm not one to usually not finish a book, but this one ended up be a DNF.

Here's why..

This book was a big ole yawn! Powerful Seduction was dry, dry, dry. Alex and Sherry have the hots for each other. I didn't believe it. There was no chemistry and everything about this story was flat. I normally like books by this author but this one did not work for me.

A heartwarming and heartbreaking tear Jerker

This was a sexy and romantic read that drew me in from the beginning. I wasn’t expecting the plot twist but it turned out to be the heartwarming as well as the heartbreaking part of the read. This read was short and sweet but didn’t leave me unsatisfied. No cliffhangers or wondering what would become of the couple. Definitely a quick but very good read.

Boring

This is my first time reading a book by this author and I am not impressed. There was no depth to the characters or under stood the instant love. The love scenes were boring as well.

Quick Read

Short and sweet read. To me it was a bit predictable and the layers of the story were under developed. However, this wasn’t a bad read just not what I expected from this author.

This was okay. Very insta-lovey. And the secret that could keep them apart ... it just didn’t resonate with me as a real issue.

It was short therefore it didn’t drag too much.

I love how easily the hero and heroine got past the 'do we like each other?' stage. It's always soooo tiresome when there's contrived and unbelievable interpersonal conflict between two people who clearly dig each other. And as always, Delaney Diamond writes men slain by love in a way that's just about pitch-perfect. My only (minor) frustration was the heroine's reaction upon hearing Alex's secret. In the world we live in, what he did was completely understandable and rational, and I think most people would hear and understand that. But what would a good romance be without a little external drama? All in all, a great quick read!

Sweet Story

I loved Alex and Sherry's story. They liked each other from afar but never acted on it for years . Then finally they took a chance and it was on from there. I loved the way Alex cared for Sherry and his friends. Alex was a sweetheart. I liked Sherry, she knew what she wanted

Heart wrenching, loving, and unique.

It is was amazing to see friends be self sacrificing and loving purely. No faking commitments. Friends giving of themselves without question or hidden agendas. I found sadness, passion, friendship, kinship and so much love. This is a must read.

Nice story

I liked the storyline. How Sherry and Alex met. He was her boss and had fancied her for a long time and she liked him as well. A chance encounter made them spend a night together and things got complicated from there. Well worth reading. A sweet romantic story.

There are all kinds of families

Alex, Rashad, and Heather made their own family in college. They were three peas in a pod, the Latino, the Black guy, and the white chick. They were self-made siblings who loved each other and took care of each other. They were all each other had coming from similar backgrounds. So when Heather took ill, they sacrificed to make sure she was taken care of. They did the same for Alex when he fell in love with Sherry Westbrook, his employee at his and Rashad's company. It was an instant attraction for them that they did not act on until the right opportunity presented itself and they went in for the gusto. Their chemistry was off the chain but they knew they had to keep their relationship a secret. BUT... Sherry did not know that Alex was keeping a secret too. She had a hard time dealing with this secret but his adopted siblings did what they do, make sure that Alex gets his HEA as he deserved. Heather knew that he would need her in the future and made the ultimate sacrifice to make sure that he did with Sherry.

The author wrote a heartwarming and heartbreaking story on what people do for love and family. Sherry stood by her morals and broke Alex's heart when she refused to hear him out, but Heather wanted to make sure she understood their situation and brought her into the fold of their tight family. Heather got her wish through prayer with Sherry. She could leave in peace knowing that Sherry would be there for Alex and also Rashad. My heart went out to Heather with her conversation with Sherry. She poured her heart out to Sherry to get her to understand her predicament and relationship with Alex and Rashad. I was happy to read that Alex and Sherry got the blessings from her family so she and Alex could have their HEA.

A Powerful Attraction, by Delaney Diamond, is the first book in the Quicksand
series. Ms. Diamond calls it the Quicksand series “because love pulls you in.
The more you fight, the deeper you fall”.
The book focuses on Sherry Westbrook and her boss Alex Barraza. Things
really kick off when Sherry is unfortunately stood up for a date. Alex is at the
right place at the right time so they have dinner together, which leads to so
much more.
Sherry and Alex fall for each other fast. On the surface, this is a book about a
boss and employee who have feelings for each other. As we read on, we find out
things go so much deeper than that.
Ms. Diamond highlights not only the power of attraction, but also the power of
love, true friendship and dedication. This was a very good, quick read and I would recommend it.

2.5 stars, rounding down

I’ve been meaning to read this author and I checked this one out because it’s short and it was on KU. Maybe this just wasn’t the best one to try. While the leads had chemistry, I didn’t see enough on page to understand how they had a deeper connection beyond sex. Plus the employer/employee power dynamic is never really addressed at all and that setup is hard enough for me—I need some convincing not to be uncomfortable with it because he owns the company. That can’t just be swept under the rug.

I guessed the big secret right away and I understood the reasons for it (with our country’s fucked up health care system) but also just... I felt like Heather’s entire character was a plot device and that didn’t sit well with me.

Heartwarming and very enjoyable reading!

From the first paragraph I was hooked on the story of this Novella. Our hero and heroine tried their best to keep their mutual attraction under wraps. Needless to say it did not happen and when our heroine found out our hero's secret she put distance between them. Our hero's female friend who was more like a sibling convinced our heroine of the true decency of our hero and as a result cemented a lasting love match! I enjoyed the premise of this story, all of the characters and the outcome even though I was saddened by the loss of one of the characters. Another great book Ms Diamond, another great book!

Awesome, awesome, awesome

This was a short, sweet and to the point story that had a bit of a heartbreaking moment that definitely had me two seconds away from ugly crying. Well-written with likeable characters, and a satisfying HEA. Could there have been a bit more buildup between Alex and Sherry before they took things to the next level, of course. I would have like to see a bit more development in their attraction instead of being told they were attracted to one another. A flashback of their first time meeting would have been nice, but other than that, this was still an enjoyable read.

Do I recommend? Abso-bloody-lutely.

So surprised and happy to hear about this new book. And I love the concept for this new collection (calling it Quicksand is genius)! It was the perfect quick Friday read that I needed.

Good storyline and interesting characters with lots of chemistry. I read the blurb and totally though I had Alex’s big secret figured out, and couldn’t help but laugh a5 how wrong I was. Although the story is a short one, it doesn’t feel short at all. And we get to catch up with some our old friends, which is always nice.

Keep ‘em coming, Delaney Diamond!

Loved it!

Alex and Sherry were attracted to each other from day one. Eventually it couldn't be denied any longer. I understand both sides but I agree with Sherry. The intent and reasoning for doing it was right. The not being up front was what had me shaking my head. Not going to spoil it. Love this story and seeing some of other familiar people from her other stories.
Usually I would take stars away if there is betrayal but this one filled a different purpose and was done out of brotherly love.

Love it!!

As always, Ms Delaney it's a real not to read your book...
The journey of Alex and Sherry was a little bit rocky, but love conquers all, lucky for Alex, otherwise he would loose the love of his life. Trust is a major thing to Sherry, and Alex should know better. But sometime in life we let fear makes us make the wrong choice... I love the way Sherry reacted, ... even in her devastating state, she stayed strong, firm and kept her dignity
.
Great characters,storyline!!
