When Phoebe Meadows gets struck by a strange light in the stock room of Macy’s, life as she knows it flies out the window. As if being hit by lightning isn’t bad enough, she’s accosted in the subway by a man with a missing hand, arrives home to find a raven on her kitchen counter, and her neighbor Ingrid shows up dressed like a gladiator, hell-bent on protecting her.
Before Ingrid can shuttle her off to safety, Phoebe is kidnapped and tossed into one of the Nine Worlds, where she’s quickly forced to come to terms with what she is: a Valkyrie. The only problem is, she has no idea what that means.
After a narrow escape, she finds an unlikely ally in Loki’s son, Fenrir. Together, the Valkyrie and the wolf must battle their way back to New York City and reach the Valkyrie stronghold where Ingrid is waiting for her. But with danger and obstacles at every turn, Phoebe might not live long enough to learn the full truth about who and what she really is…
FREED: Book 2
Phoebe Meadows has one thing on her mind: Free her mother.
For the last month, Phoebe has been training in the Valkyrie stronghold readying for battle. But when she stumbles into a secluded valley after a day of grueling practice, she’s given a dire prediction. Phoebe must leave the stronghold immediately with the aid of the giant, Junnal, to rescue her mother from the dark elves. If Phoebe fails, Leela will be transported to a place that can no longer be reached.
Leaving Fen behind threatens to undo her, but Phoebe stays true to the mission. Along the way, she allies with the god Baldur and an old white elf mage. Together, they storm the realm, and with the help of an angry wolf and her Valkyrie sisters, they just might stand a chance to free the valiant shieldmaiden.
But Phoebe soon learns that rescuing her mother comes with a price, and she’s about to lose something too precious to sacrifice…
EXILED: Book 3
Phoebe Meadows is on trial for her life.
After freeing her half-brother, Baldur, Phoebe is set to stand before the Council in Asgard to answer for her actions. The threat of exile if she’s found guilty looms, not to mention the added stress of meeting her real father for the first time.
Upon entering Asgard, Phoebe discovers new allies in a half-brother she’s never met as well as an oracle who is in possession of valuable information. A little added help couldn’t have come at a better time, because when Phoebe is tossed into an unknown realm, she’s only armed with Gundren, a jewel, and her wits.
When Loki shows up, all bets are off. The trickster god throws a wrench in Phoebe’s plans and kidnaps Fen, her only ally. And just when she thinks she sees the light at the end of the tunnel, Phoebe finds she has to defeat one last obstacle: The Norns.
And they aren’t planning to go down without a fight…

Struck (Phoebe Meadows #1) This is one incredible non-stop action roller coaster ride of a book. I loved it. It was also a great start of a series which I hope will go on for a long while. This was the first book I read from Amanda Carlson because it was recommended to me. I was only familiar with the short story set Sin City Collectors, which I liked a lot as well, and I was getting ready to start with Carlson's Jessica McClain series. After this book, I will definitely read everything Amanda Carlson had published so far. Her writing style is easygoing but gripping and the characters are well developed. The main female protagonist in Struck is Phoebe who sells shoes and lives a regular life, until she is struck by lightning and becomes the most wanted Valkyrie in the universe. She fights and overcomes obstacles. She is fierce and wonderful. She is consistent and smart. I really like Phoebe and can't wait for the next book. The main male character is Fenrir the wolf, son of Loki. It took me a while to warm up to him because he seemed a bit self centered, until he wasn't any longer and I started liking him. He is a warrior, and a very sexy one. But the best part is that Fenrir did not take any of Phoebe's attention away, she is still the main character and she is the centre of the story. There are several very interesting supporting characters who are also very well developed and very important for the story but do not take away attention from Phoebe. They traverse worlds and fight monsters. The universe and characters are based on, or inspired by Nordic mythology, however it is not done in a overbearing way and it is easy to read and drown into. I drowned in this book and could not stop reading it until I was done. It was non-stop action roller coaster ride of a book and I highly recommend it. Freed (Phoebe Meadows #2) Finally, the second book is out and I will probably start the next review with the same sentence. Amanda Carlson has a way of writing that draws you in and you never want to get out. Same as Jessica McClain series. I will not lie to you, there is a sort of cliffhanger, but I hate that word, so let's call them loose ends. I think it is the author's style to tie up some loose ends, and right before the end, she creates some new ones for the next episode. Because that is exactly like her books feel, like chapters of a larger story. And obviously, now, it is a bit frustrating waiting for the next book but the plus is if you are one of the readers coming later, you will have all of them at your disposal. This is not a collection of a standalone novels set in the same world, this is a series of stories about Phoebe Meadows, her adventures, and her friends and family. The book itself is even better than the first one. Phoebe is getting stronger and more skilled and we get to know her better. She embarks on an adventure with Junnal we briefly met in the first book. Along the way she meets several new and very interesting characters. She is wonderfully victorious against all odds and she becomes more sure of herself and more independent. We see less of Fen in this book but he is still here and still wonderful. Again, I loved this book and I can't wait for the next one and I hope there will be a lot more after that. I wholeheartedly suggest this series, starting with Struck. The characters are strong and well developed, the world is interesting and it draws you in, and the story is gripping and it keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page. Exiled (Phoebe Meadows #3) Still reading, but I can say that what i read so far is great as the previous two books.
