“[S]omehow manages to be simultaneously hilarious, harrowing and informative. Beckerman skewers all, yes, but also reminds us that (almost) everyone’s sociopolitical quirks and rage have a legitimate root cause if we can bring ourselves to look for it.”—Rue MorgueAdjunct professor Olivia has no savings, no stability, no hope...oh, and she's still living at home with her father, the university dean. Meanwhile, sky-high tuition is wrecking her students' lives. The solution? Kidnap the out-of-touch baby boomers running the school and demand cancellation of all college loan debt. KILLENIALS by Marty Beckerman is a genuinely funny tale of a battle between two generations: millenials and baby boomers. It is an honest look from both sides of the stand-off and always seeks the humor before the seriousness.
The first 2/3rds of this novella were very strong. When it got to the showdown I felt it lost some of its luster, perhaps going too far over the top with the events that took place vs. the results. But, still maintained a high level of fun.
The ending teetered on becoming Upton Sinclair's THE JUNGLE when it threatened to become too preachy for one side but managed to hold onto balance perspective which was important to the success of the story the whole way through.
As a Gen Xer caught in between this battle I wholly endorse this as a Goodread. Now, stop fighting.
