Gun Play #1

Until Nothing Remains

Rate this book

The United States has experienced its share of turmoil over the years. Although not particularly war-torn or stricken with genocide and violent crime as other nations, over time, gun violence and terror attacks have become commonplace on American soil.

Never before has the United States been subjected to widespread, coordinated terrorist attacks, devastating enough to bring the entire nation to its knees. Until now.

In this first volume of his Gun Play series, post-apocalyptic author C.A. Rudolph will engage you with the tale of two families from wholly diverse walks of life: a husband and wife immersed in a clandestine existence of murder-for-hire, espionage, and intrigue, and a mainstream middle-class family of six.

Each will find themselves affected by an onslaught of terror attacks the likes of which the world has never seen. Each must learn to survive…or succumb.

A silent enemy lurks among them, and no one knows when they plan to strike. When they do, it will only be a matter of time Until Nothing Remains.

The idea is interesting, but there is a lot of exposition. There isn't actually a lot of gunplay (or any action for that matter) in this story. It's well written, but we're told a lot that I wish were were shown. The characters are interesting and proactive. I'd be interested to learn more, but not through the amount of exposition this first volume used.

I kept wondering how all these characters would come together. I am glad that in the end we get a glimpse of how that is happening.
The different characters and the story are great. I can’t wait to explore more of the story.
Kevin Pierce narrates this book so that alone makes it wonderful, it just so happens that it’s written well and entertaining as well!

First, I wasn't sure of this one from the sample. It sounded like a hate novel. Fortunately, that was deceptive. Look for another clip to represent this book.
I agree with the party that found this book over way to soon. Rudolph can tell a compelling story. You will want more, so let's hope he gets the next out quickly.
The story crosses genres, including action thriller, apocalyptic, espionage with a little prepper thrown in and CA Rudolph blends the genres masterfully. The characters are a bit bigger than life but have enough depth to keep your interest and root for them (even the wife-husband assassin team). The plot is not hard to believe given real world events and the results and reactions already witnessed (shiver here).
Kevin Pierce gives a superior performance and drives the action like a Daytona race car. I'm going to look for more of his work.
Other reviewers give a good description of the story so I won't rehash. I will say that I was impressed by my first taste of CA Rudolph's talents.

Wow!

I don't even know where to start my review. I read it in one sitting. I read an excellent book all day long. The characters were spot on. The storyline flowed. The style of writing was for adults meaning it wasn't at the 5th grade level.

I have highlighted so many memorable quotes . Three of my fav.

“Adam, a right not exercised regularly is a right lost. If we don’t start fighting back and showing them we give a da*n, they’re gonna rip the Constitution right out from underneath us like some old rug.

Islam isn’t just a religion, it’s an ideology. Its original basis was to explicitly pursue political and societal dominance over every living individual on the planet. It’s about submission and a primitive social hierarchy, and the elimination of human rights.

How to deal with your wife. “What made you happy the day before typically stops working the day after. It’s one of those jobs that takes a lifetime to get right.”

Didn't want to put it down!

C.A. Rudolph does a great job of keeping you interested and wanting more! I love the way, near the end of the book, he starts pulling the characters together.
The only negative is waiting until next Spring to see what happens next! How ironic that Elisabeth, who has such a dislike of guns, meets up with the "Donovans!"

I feel like I barely spent time with these characters before the book ended. This book is the beginning of a series I know I will read and reread several times. The author introduced a new twist of events to kick off a SHTF scenario. Refreshing change and thought provoking!!! I look forward to reading the next book.

I really enjoyed the plot of this book. The book has some funny characters and did a great job portraying a sassy teenager that played an important part in the book.

I enjoyed the husband and wife team and their role in the book.

Overall, great listen, enjoyed! Will definitely check out the series as it builds.

I received this book free from audiobook boom and am providing my honest review.

Here's another totally unfinished story. Although the characters are interesting and compelling, there's not enough story to evaluate. I'll happily do so if I get the opportunity to review the rest of the story.

Kevin Pierce delivers his customary solid performance.

C. A. Rudolph

I really enjoyed this story, reminds you things are not always what they seem. We have two hired killers, a country under attack and a family where the characters are devided into two different mindsets and they meet. Treat yourself. Now I am going to read the next book and looking forward to it.

Fascinating approach!

This book is unique in its approach to the collapse, with the protagonists being contract killers. The development of the story is well paced and the characters engaging, and some a little scary. I can’t wait to read book 2!

DNF at 11%. The MCs and narratitive voice are using specific vocabulary and expressions widely used by (German) right-wing and neo-nazi parties and organizations. Intentional or not, personally, I found it off-putting.

Slow

I really enjoy this author so I’m going to give book two a Chance when it comes out. This book was not what I’ve come to expect from him, at all.

Different

We follow two couples into the beginning of the apocalypse. One is a pair of assassins the other a sort of prepared family. At the end of the book the two meet.

Good read

This book for the start of this series is full of action and intrigue. Makes you think at every turning of the page as to how this will turn out.
