Somewhat sloppily written. The idea that the Muscogee / Creek Confederacy just emerged whole-cloth out of the ether is extremely inaccurate. The book glosses over the entire Mississippian Era of southeastern Native American history. Also the British audiobook narrator does a particularly poor job pronouncing indigenous names, words, and places reinstating colonial misattributions of indigenous languages.

Few if any sources are cited, and strange personal animus creeps in when discussing contested issues such as the Beringian land bridge theory. There is little appreciation for the complexity and contradictions of historians on this and other issues, and the author feels content to relegate divergent scholarly views with an air of moral superiority that would make a Spanish Inquisitor blush. The author also feels the need to take swipes at contemporary American society on issues unrelated to the indigenous people, which made me as a reader more suspicious of his ability to separate his personal biases from verifiable historical fact.

The book is watered down and overly simplified. There are plenty of better options out there, many of which are written by members of these communities themselves rather than yet another white outsider.

kindle unlimited, 2 books of what should never have happened, and is still somewhat happening with voter registration {reservations tend to NOT have street addresses, just P.O. boxes} & such things as Keystone pipeline & other such things going thru tribal land and also heavily risking water supplies there and across country. Am somewhat involved in protests, could be because civic duty in part and rest because am Cherokee, Chickasaw, & Choctaw...along with lot of European 'white cracker' js.

Whoever spellchecked this book needs to be Fired.

The 2 books were really interesting. There is so much information and I enjoyed learning something new (being born and bred in Eastern Europe I didn’t know much about Native Americans).

However. Whoever spellchecked this book needs to be fired. The author has invented a new word, “peoples”. And unfortunately when reading about Native American people, the word “peoples” pops up every couple of sentences. It made my eyes bleed. Also, what is “a people”! (Probably means “a population “ bur someone clearly didn’t pay attention when they were reading this book before it was published. Such a shame.

White atrocities

A continuation of a theme of racism, fear and arrogance. It is no wonder that the unrest of the people continues today.
