Heavy Equipment

Rate this book
I've been raised as the good, obedient daughter, but I never expected to be sold to pay my father's debts. Cold. Rough. Merciless. The foreman of the construction crew is going to make me pay every last cent.

Author's Note: The hero is Asher Cook, the construction foreman from Survival of the Richest, though this is not part of the series and can be heard as a standalone.

I was giving the opportunity to beta read this story early.
This novella is spin off from the Trust Fund Duet and it does not fall short. Skye Warren sure knows how to pack a full sexy, panty dropping, story in this novella. Heavy Equipment hits heavy straight outta the gate, leaving nothing left to chance. Asher Cook is the construction foreman we met while Harper was trying to save the historical library. A commanding man who knows what he wants and has no issue with telling you how it is going to be! And he wants June! She is the prize he gets to collect. She is the payment he receives to clear a debt. The hot and intense Asher knows exactly how to excite and entice June. He will push buttons on her she never knew she had. Be prepared for a powerfully erotic, toe curling ride while reading or listening to this story!

This was a deliciously decadent 'sold for a debt read'! Asher and June waste no time on formalities, as the heat sizzles between them. We get their dirty, sexy, moments, and that inevitable HEA, as the emotions catch up with them. A quickread with a high handed, and completely possessive leading male - yes please!

Told in single POV, 1st person, it’s a standalone novella. It was a disappointment. I couldn’t feel anything here! This is a very short read (takes 2 hours reading, at most) and I really wanted to DNF it after the first half. Hope you enjoy it more than me!

Ever since meeting Asher in The Trust Fund duet, Survival of the Richest and The Evolution of Man, I have been dying to get my hands on his story! I fell in love with him in that series and Heavy Equipment made me love him even more. This novella was jammed pack with hot and heavy scenes between Asher and June Li that had just the right amount of darkness thrown in. Even though we briefly meet Asher as the foreman in The Trust Fund duet, you don’t have to read them to enjoy Heavy Equipment which is a standalone. I really enjoyed this novella, but I was a little disappointed that Asher didn’t get a full-length novel; I love his character so much, and after reading Heavy Equipment I really started to like June Li’s character as well and wished their story was longer. I hope Heavy Equipment is just the beginning for these two and we will get more of them in the future! I’m really hoping to see more of these two in Sutton’s story at least. This novella was AWESOME and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a short, steamy read.

I couldn't handle the hero, he's supposed to be “A bad man. A thief. " but all I did was laugh every time he said something.

Intensely erotic and beautifully crafted. This little treat will appeal to your dark and naughty side.

A brutal man presys on a defenseless beauty whose father is indebted to him. What a frightfully delicious scenario this is, but only because we hope there is love at the end of the tunnel. Otherwise :-(

In this case, the sensuality overpowers the imposition. The girl likes it all too much and takes pleasurable part in every step of her captivity, so that his harsh behaviour makes it less criminal and more fantasy. I'm not exactly into that kind of willing humiliation, but the scenario is beautifully and erotically narrated, craftily plotted to turn the bad into a sensuous awakening, the sacrifice into a reward. And there are layers beneath the darkness, so nothing is as it seems!

The dubious consent takes over a patina of provocation, and suddenly you start panting for the coarse, crude construction worker to defile the little exotic princess and make her moan for him.

It's a surprisingly devious erotic tale that runs too short for its raw power.

Favourite quotes:
A flame made steady so that my glow will not offend.
The only man with the determination to peel away my layers to the surrender underneath.

You can listen to this audiobook for free via the Read Me Romance Podcast

I seem to be finding the Read Me Romance novellas a bit hit and miss so far, I've tried 4 and had two DNFs, one that was okay and only one that I really liked. Unfortunately Heavy Equipment just isn't for me and ended up being one of the DNFs.

I only finished one chapter and that was more than enough. The "hero" is disgusting, he walks into the heroine's house and basically takes ownership of her because her father owes him money. He's never spoken to her before yet he doesn't even let her father leave the room before he's pushing her up against a wall and sticking his hand up her skirt because he can supposedly tell she's getting wet at the thought of him owning her!

The heroine is supposed to be a good girl, a virgin who has never been kissed, someone who has lived a life in high society and now suddenly finds out her father has sold her to be some random stranger's sex toy to pay off his debts. Yet instead of being shocked and horrified by her father's betrayal she's turned on? Seriously?? Never in a million years are you getting me to believe that bullshit! And then when she basically decides she'd be better off basically prostituting herself to an arsehole rather than have her dad lose their posh house and her fancy dresses.

Yeah, I'm done. I’m no longer wasting my time on books I’m not enjoying, especially if they are freebies!

I think the Read Me Romance podcast is a brilliant idea, getting to try a whole bunch of authors for free via free, professionally recorded audiobooks sounds wonderful doesn't it? I'm starting to get a little wary of it all though because so far most of them haven't been worth the time it takes to listen to them. I'm going to keep trying in the hope I find a few new authors I love but at this point I'm not holding my breath.

A scorching hot and forbidden story from Skye Warren. You get to experience everything Skye Warren excels in writing. The mind games. The delicious passion which is so dark and so good! I wanted the story to keep on going so that I can see more of the dirty deviant world of Asher and June.
A dangerously sexy story from Skye Warren!
Arrogant construction worker and foreman Asher is dominant, rough and sexy as hell. June Li is the innocent little Princess who is forced to get in the clutch of the big bad wolf. But is she really that innocent? We get to see the other side of her with the story! A short story that packs so much!

I've been snatching up Skye Warren books whenever they go free but I haven't actually read one of her books yet. This is my first and I listened to the Read Me Romance Podcast.

This is one of those books where I haven't quite decided how much I liked it. The writing is good. Really good. But the material is a little on the edge for me. One of the duo of Alexa Riley was describing Skye's books on the podcast and she said it perfectly. The hero does things to the heroine that she likes but is almost ashamed that she likes it and I would completely agree with this analysis.

I'm not really a fan of the shame or humiliating treatment but then how do you complain when the heroine actually likes it? My only other complaint is that it's really short. I need more. I want to know how this couple adapts after only 2 days together.

Not exactly what I was expecting after listening to so many of the lighter audios on the Read Me Romance podcast. This one has a darker undertone as the heroine’s father uses her to pay off a debt. The hero was a bit dark and a real dirty talker. This ended up being pretty typical of this type of story - hero insta everything, heroine a virgin who is instantly every dirty thing he wants. Not a lot here except for the sexual dialogue and what follows.

Listened to audio on Read Me Romance - picked up the book for free and read the epilogue

Omg

Asher Cook takes June Li out of her comfort zone by pushing her into a new level of pleasure. He is the perfect man to break a woman like her but to also love her so fully. He has loved her for longer than he would like to admit. Their relationship is passionate and powerful and he awakens something inside of her she would never know. I envy their love. Damn good book I can't wait to read overture.

2* STARS!

A quick and short read ended up with disappointment.
I love interracial couple.
I love dirty hero (literally).

BUT...

I hate doormat naive heroine.
I hate the sex sounds forceful.
I hate insta-love.

The plot is a bit disturbing with blackmail and harassment. No chemistry at all. Hardly enjoyed it.

I listened to this story as part of the Read Me Romance podcast. It was certainly steamy and kept me intrigued but I did think there could have been a little more story to it. As it was, it was mostly just the heroine reiterating over and over again that she was a good daughter and then tons of sex. Hot sex, I'll say that, but still just sex.

Skye Warren is known for her dangerous, dark romances. This novella provided us with the perfect little taste.

Daddy dearest trades his beautiful, virgin daughter to pay off his debts. Asher Cook is determined to bend June to his every desire. While her fighting spirit is strong, he can tell that there is a part of her that wants to give in to him. And it is only a matter of time.

I listened to this via the Read Me Romance Podcast. It was short and sweet and to the point. While novellas will always leave me wanting more, I felt like this one was handled really well. I cannot wait to check out more from Skye Warren in the future!

Another free audiobook from the "Read Me Romance" podcast and another one that did not do it for me.

It starts out bad, with a hero who essentially "buys" the heroine from her father who owes him money without her actually having a choice about it since she's a "dutiful daughter". That's not a trope I'm a fan of and if I wasn't busy cooking I would have DNF'ed the book, but I was so I just let it play and ended up finishing it since it's really not that long.

It turns out that . That still didn't make me like it any better, and neither did the fact that . Seriously? Just no.

So far the "Read Me Romance" books have been more miss than hit for me and I think I'll be looking into the books before I start listening to the corresponding podcast episodes instead of just listening to the podcast in order from now on. They do mention that the "second season" will have more authors, so hopefully there'll be more hits soon...

This was a fantastic dirty quickie - an awesome stand-alone novella. Asher and June-Li are an explosive match. Dubious consent turns into happy ownership and I would have loved more of these two. Really enjoyed this one.

I received an arc of this book.

Heavy Equipment was a dark and sexy ownership type novel that was just pure Skye Warren goodness. It was sexy and brought all the delicious feelings that only this author can bring. Asher and June were sexy and addicting and I loved every word.

I loved this story and the ownership/dub con angle. It was dark and erotic and left me wanting more. I wish it was longer and we got more of these two but this was a satisfying quickie! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

While this book wasn't really my thing and I didn't like it, I thought the narrator did a great job. And I love listening to the Read Me Romance ladies. I have the biggest grin on my face whenever they're talking. Four stars for the narrator, and because Skye is an excellent writer. I hope she finds more readers with this podcast who enjoy her style.

Heavy Equipment by Skye Warren is book 2.5 in the Trust Fund Duet. This is the story of Asher Cook and June Li. Asher Cook, the construction foreman from Survival of the Richest but this can be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Asher has a way about him that makes you weak even when he is being heavy handed which happens a lot with June. June is the innocent sacrifice that goes toward paying off her father's debts. Asher takes what he wants and he goes to get it...leads him to June.
This was another hot quick read by Ms. Warren. Ms. Warren knows how to burn up your books and kindles!
