Fleeing an abusive relationship normally doesn’t lead to a contract.

After being burned by an ex Nicholas doesn’t trust easily. However, his refusal to have a serious girlfriend threatens everything he has spent the last five years working to accomplish. Somehow, instability in his love life has convinced the public that he can’t manage a multi-billion dollar investment firm. If he doesn’t change things quickly, he’ll risk losing everything he’s worked his entire life for.

To solve his problems, Nicholas hires Kenzie to be his pretend girlfriend. With the terms of their contract firmly in place, Kenzie is confident this arrangement will allow her to ditch at least one of the deadbeat jobs she’s endured to keep from returning to the horrors she left behind.

Keeping their arrangement completely professional slowly becomes complicated as attraction rises to the surface. Both of their futures are riding on this arrangement working and neither can afford to lose the other.

descriptionYet another book that I am struggling to decide a rating on. I enjoyed it overall, but it didn't exactly blow me away...sigh. I'll start with the issues I had first (bad news always first, right?).

One, this book was incredibly LONG and so frigging WORDY. It took forever for these two to even officially meet (40%??) and there were so many things that could have been trimmed from the story to speed things up. Not to mention the repetitive use of HIM, HER, SHE. I get it, they didn't want to name the people that hurt them, but god almighty they are not Voldemort they can be named. Use their damn names! Even after we actually find out the hero's ex's name, he goes back to calling her SHE.

Two, this was a clean romance. That is right, ZERO sex, and just a few chaste kisses. Maybe the next book will have sex (shrug), but I like some spice to my romances, so I was super bummed out by this.

Third, speaking of second books, this ends on a #"¤/()(%"! CLIFFHANGER! I've already mentioned that this book was super long and super wordy, then to have it end on a cliffhanger, ya, my tablet just about hit the wall. This story could very well have been wrapped up in a single book. I don't see what these two are going to do for another 305 pages, especially since they ain't having any sex (lol).

description

That said, it wasn't all bad. The writing was pretty good (apart from the aforementioned overuse of him, her, and she). I liked the setup of the story. It was sweet. There wasn't any OW or OM drama. It had some great secondary characters. The hero was quite likable (most of the time). The heroine was pretty much perfect. I enjoyed the chemistry between the main couple. I enjoyed the friendship they developed. I am usually not a fan of flashbacks, but they worked well in this instance. SIDE NOTE: There is on page physical abuse in the flashbacks, so do be aware of that if you find situations like that triggering. So yea, it was OK. I *think* I am intrigued enough to see where this author is heading with this couple, but I hope to heavens the next book is the final one!description

This was an ARC that I received, and I’m going to be brutally honest. This was a tough read. And not “tough” as in “emotionally gutting,” but “tough” as in, “My god. We’re only at 27%. Must I go on?”

We’ve all seen this storyline before: girl escapes abusive boyfriend and runs into the arms of a gazillionaire playboy who isn’t looking for love but finds it in the most unexpected way. The storytelling here, unfortunately, falls flat. It’s as if the author was trying to start a fire with wet kindling. We never get that full blown, in-your-face, blaze that is the raison d’etre of romance novels. Heck, we barely got a spark!

The heroine, Kenzie, ends up working for a fancypants “rent-a-date” service, where she meets our hero, Nicholas, a super rich financial investor guy being hounded by the press for his dating habits. I’m not all that into tabloids, but I’m not sure the press is THAT into endlessly hounding rich and successful businessmen on a regular basis. There wasn’t anything special about Nicholas, but ok, whatever. Nicholas is all worried that his investors won’t trust him anymore because he doesn’t have a steady girlfriend. I don’t know about you, but I could care less if my financial person is married, single, asexual, or whatever. I’d be happy as long as he made me piles of money. But I don’t have piles of money, so what do I know?

Anyway, the story is really slow. It takes the author half of the book to get these two to finally meet and start interacting. There’s no sizzle and no steak here, and the first half of the book is basically pages and pages of each character’s endless and circular internal dialogue that doesn’t add a whole lot to the narrative. At the 50% mark, I still had little idea what these people even look like. The author spends more time describing bathrooms than her characters. All I know is that Kenzie is a natural beauty who needs little makeup and possibly has brown hair, and Nicholas wears expensive suits and is described by Kenzie as “cute” (and maybe that’s why his investors don’t trust him...because he looks more cute than financially savvy? Who knows!). Oh, and also? He’s a masochist who thinks women only want money to buy nice clothes and big houses. It completely boggles his mind that Kenzie needs the money to, *gasp*, PAY HER BILLS. Even worse, he further objectifies Kenzie by first using her as a tool to clear his bad public image. Then when he sees her in a swimsuit swimming laps, he views her as something he wants to throw against the wall and “grab by her...(word that starts with the letter p that I won’t demean women by using).” Yet, when Kenzie brings him a thank you basket full of baked goods, they sit and have a polite, but mundane, conversation. This is creepy, and if anything, I’m a little uncomfortable reading more about what he fantasizes doing to Kenzie. There are few redeeming qualities to this dude. Kenzie puts it aptly when she points out (during one of her long trips into self dialogue land) that Nicholas’s previous live-in girlfriend must have fallen in love with his amazing bathroom.

Inevitably, the hero becomes ill and we have a sickroom scene. Except he gets food poisoning 10 minutes after eating bad chicken. That bacteria was soooo bad that they had to call his mom and he was immediately rendered bedridden. And it was soooo bad he required round the clock care. I’m sorry, but if you’re THAT sick from food poisoning, shouldn’t you be in the hospital? Of course, Kenzie is the only one available to take care of him. And absolutely nothing happens. Except she cooks him bland chicken soup. Then he fantasizes some more about doing the dirty with her. It’s kind of icky, actually.

Things finally start picking up a little at around 85% (but suddenly we’re in Seattle instead of New York City? So confused), and as I’m finally starting to get interested in what’s going on, the book ends with an abrupt cliffhanger.

I gave this book 2 stars because the last few chapters showed potential. I think with proper editing and proofreading, it could have been a lot better. The first half of the book could have been condensed to 2 or 3 chapters, and the author could have spent more time developing Nicholas and Kenzie’s supposed romance. These are problems that did not allow me to look past the typos, spelling errors, bad grammar (your vs. you’re gets me every time!), and slow pacing.

I am a sucker for a good fake romance and I really loved this story. Madison Quinn does an amazing job of really giving depth to her characters and I adored both Kenzie and Nicholas. If I were just reviewing the story then this would be be a 5 star review from me....BUT the ARC that I received is in desperate need of a proofreader and an editor.

It appears this is Ms. Quinn's debut novel and it is an amazing start to what I hope is a successful writing career but there were too many repetitive moments in this book. I did not necessarily need to read what a character is thinking if they are just going to say it a few lines later. There were also numerous typographical type errors where words are missing or the wrong word is used (ex-there instead of then) and it actually becomes distracting. I can usually overlook a few typos because I certainly make a ton of them myself. But when typos appear on every other page they become hard to overlook.

I am giving this 4 stars because I think the story and the characters make this a very worthy read and since this is release day I have purchased my own copy and I hope to find a much cleaner text than I received in the ARC.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a story of two damaged people who have a plan that goes haywire when emotions become involved

Kenzie is running from an abusive relationship she is working a number of dead end jobs trying to make ends meet. Nicholas owner of a huge investment company has to convince people he is family orientated or he may loose his firm His answer buy himself a girlfriend to support the image he needs. When these two damaged people are in such close proximity it isn't long before emotions surface and this pretend relationship may not be pretend for much longer.

These is a book that draws you in emotionally especially Kenzie's story you can't help but feel for ht she has gone through I am desperately looking forward to book 2 "On her Terms"

I was given a copy of this book but this is true and honest review

I’m going to be brief about On His Terms, mainly because I’ve just shut the Kindle on a cliffhanger… I dislike cliffhangers so very much. You can take a thread and weave it through every single story in a series, for me that is how you grab my attention to continue, not hold the ending hostage. But… that’s my style of reading and not everyone else’s. That’s not said to be mean, simply a fact for me.

I gave On His Terms a 3.5 stars rating on my blog, for the outside spots where I post reviews I’ll round that up to a 4 star – for there are compelling, interesting parts to this romance I simply had to get to almost a quarter of the book before I found those parts through all of the words involved. I am not about to tell an author how to write for I certainly do not have this talent.. yet, there is such a overpowering amount of words to this story, especially the beginning that, for me, if they had been trimmed down a bit I might have gotten involved with this couple far earlier in their story.

Parts of this story are told through flashbacks and since this romance does deal with Kenzie’s past which involves physical abuse, there is one brief moment that might be a trigger. Overall, this is an interesting story, one of growth and dealing with the past. I frankly don’t know if I’ll continue the series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

An amazing compelling read and I love it. Both characters are broken from past trauma and will need each other to overcome and move on. This 1st book is the introduction into their current lives and a glimpse into their past. It is will written, consistent, and well-developed. It is a story that hooked me from page one until the end and I cannot wait to complete Kenzie and Nicholas’s story in the next book. The become friends and it blossoms slowly. This ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next. I recommend this to all. I received it as an arc and voluntarily left my review.

Madison Quinn has created this wonderful world where we meet Kenzie & Nicholas, the "un-couple". He needs to appear more family-friendly to the media & she takes the job as his "girlfriend". What starts off as an arrangement for appearances sake, slowly starts to build to a slow burn. They both start fantasizing about each other, but neither will act on it, as it goes against the arrangement rules. Nicholas & Kenzie both have trauma in their backstories, which keeps them both at arms length. This is book one, so I am looking forward to book two so we can see what HER terms will be! A wonderful story with all the right feels that leaves you yearning to read the part of the story.
Well done Madison!

I loved this book! Amazing how two people who had been hurt so terribly by others could enter into an arrangement and find their perfect match. Loved how they kept thinking the same things but wouldn’t admit their feelings for one another. The story has just the perfect balance of independent female lead and want to take care of her male lead that they balance out perfectly. Just loved Nichols and Kenzie and how their relationship slowly blossomed. Can’t wait to read the sequel. I strongly recommend On His Terms to any reader that loves romance. It was just perfect.

On His Terms by Madison Quinn is book One in The Arrangement Series. This is the story of Nicholas and Kenzie.
Nicholas needs a pretend girlfriend that will build a image he is trying to make after it has taken a hit. Not really trusting anymore after being burned he thinks this business arrangement will work out great to set the tone he wants to display.
Kenzie has been working to jobs along with trying to keep herself going after escaping a very abusive relationship. When she gets this chance at a job offer that will pay than she makes now it is hard to say no to it. But they do go forward with trying to keep this all business but their growing attraction and feelings isn't giving them at chance to stay all business for long.
Since this is the first book in the series it does build somewhat of the ground work for some of the other books I felt. I think this is the first book by this author and she has done a great job starting out. Hope to read more of her books soon.

Initially heartbreaking, the book set me off on a journey that I wasn't expecting. Kenzie is a survivor. She's strong and willing to move forward with her life even after such pain might have made her a victim for life. I loved that about her. The author set up an interesting premise that took over the plotline and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book until it abruptly ended without notice. I was totally invested in this story but I was just dumbfounded at the way the author ended this book. This is the first book according to the author, but it didn't feel like a cliffhanger, it felt like pages were missing. That's how strange the ending was to me. I am intrigued and will watch for the second book but I hope that the ending, regardless if it's another cliffhanger, will not just leave us unsure like this one left me.

An amazing tail of two strangers burned by love that are starting to learn to trust again! Both Nicholas and Kenzie have tragic back stories before either were burned by love. They both have a lot of hurdles to jump over in order to heal, but as their story progresses you can tell they are slowly lowering their walls to each other. This is Madison Quinn's first published novel and she did an amazing job bringing these characters to life! I can't wait until the next book in the story is released!!!

On His terms was amazing! WOW!! Hands down the best book I read in awhile.
Nicholas & Kenzie's characters are perfect. The are in a "business" relationship that was working great until things changed. They both has issues from their past they are dealing with alone. They are both different but yet so alike.

I loved the plot of this book!! The author wrote this in such a brilliant way, that you fell your right there in the story. I was drawn to each character, each played an important part. and was easy to follow, the flow of the story was perfect....then the cliffhanger! I can not wait for the 2nd book!

A story of friendship, passion and over coming trust issues...a must read! LOVED IT!!

Terrific!!
Terrific engaging story that follows Kenzie and Nicholas. She is working 2 jobs to stay afloat while he is a billionaire CEO they both have suffered in the past and are both trepidatious of relationships. This book had me turning page after page just to see what happens next. It does end on a cliffhanger but that just makes the anticipation of book 2 so sweet.
I reached an ARC from Booksprout and am volunteering my review.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is outside of my usual genre, but I found I finished it very quickly. I enjoyed the premise of the story - where the main characters meet thanks to an agency that sets up dates for high profile people in the media. I enjoyed Kenzie's growth from a past of physical abuse to being an independent woman. The chemistry between the two characters is also great leaving you wanting to see them together - but be warned it ends on a cliffhanger, which did shock me a little! I can see parallels between Nicholas (the male protagonist) and Christian in Fifty Shades of Grey, although the similarities do stop there! I would like to see a few more edits to make the book a little pacier, but I am keen to see where the characters are taken next.

This book was something ells and I loved it!!
The 2 Characters Nicholas & Kenzie are the perfect match but they keep their distance between each other even though they have a hard time doing so as it’s only meant to be a business deal to help each other out! But with everything happening they start falling for each other even tough not one of them makes their feelings noticed.
They share almost the same childhood pain but neither of them feel to share it with one another and that makes the story more intense because they actually have more in common then they think and would draw them closer to one another.
I loved the plot of this book and the way the author drew a person more into the book. It’s filled with passion, regret, Love and so much more and you can feel the emotions of the characters almost straight away. The end of the book left me with more questions than answers and it made me wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens next!!!
