Tarot Cards: The Hidden Symbols Explained

Rate this book
Every single Tarot Card is filled with hidden symbols, but some of the cards have more symbols than others. Some of the symbols appear within a card in one deck, but not in others. So, for your convenience I decided to present the symbol interpretations in two different styles. In Part One, you will find an alphabetical list of the most important hidden symbols to be found in the cards, as well as indicating which cards they can be found on. In Part Two, you will find each card listed separately with a list of the hidden symbols to be found in that particular card. This gives you the choice of looking up a particular symbol to gain an understanding of its meaning, or to look up a particular card and read about all of the symbols to be found on that card. I hope that this book will help you to develop a deeper understanding of your Tarot Cards, which will benefit both you and the sitter.

This book covers symbols in the traditional Rider Waite Smith tarot deck as well as two other decks based on the RWS: Hanson Roberts and Legacy of the Divine. It is broken down into two parts: Part One is an alphabetical list of symbols found in the cards, including which cards they can be found on and then Part Two is organized by card, with a list of symbols for each.

I liked that this book gave me a starting point to get me thinking about symbols in tarot without starting my own research from scratch or even better, for complementing my own research. If you are going to read this book, I would recommend that approach - get some ideas here, but listen to your own intuition and if a particular symbol interests you, do your own deep dive research to enrich your understanding and really make it your own. I think this is the author's intent because in the introduction, he recommends readers compile their own interpretations for their own deck and the symbols with the cards. If you start with this mindset, it can be a lot of fun to jump to a symbol that interests you and then go look at all the cards that have that symbol, then compare how the symbol is used in each card, what other symbols you see, etc.

I was disappointed in the card section, which has the exact text for each symbol from the alphabetical symbol section. I would have liked to see some kind of synthesis or call outs of the nuances for each card in addition to the same text again. Hmm...now I have ideas for writing my own book!

This really is a must-have book for anyone wanting to learn how to interpret tarot cards on their own.

The book is laid out in 2 different ways, by symbol and by card, so it's very easy to find what you need. It makes it easier to interpret different decks too were the symbolism on the cards may have changed.

This book was a game changer for me, I don't know why I didn't look into the symbolism sooner, I always wondered what those small random things on the cards were, e.g. the mouse in the corner or the random infinity symbol.

If you took English literature at all and decipher basic symbolism in imagery then you already have all of the knowledge this book can author you.

I though okay when I read all the definitions well at least it will tell me the general card definitions, but the card section is just a copy and paste with the card imagery. This felt like a cash grab.

Quite a comprehensive list of symbols followed by explanations on how they fit into each card. Good reference to keep around. An experience intuitive reader might not find it useful but it's a great starting point for someone who is learning about tarot.

Tarot book

I love this book. I like how the sections of the book explain the symbols on the cards. I like how it gives individual chapters per alphabet as well. Would totally recommend.

It was very detailed. Lots of information and a great reference book to have on hand. I read the kindle version but would even buy the paperback.

🧿 Outdated. Extremely repetitive and some explanations do no connect with reality. 🤷🏻‍♀️
