Mickey Jacobs and Alexandra Stotts have known each other since they were kids. Outwardly, living childhoods full of joy and laughter but privately both experiencing their own kinds of pain and disappointment.
Alex had always been taught what happens behind closed doors stays behind closed doors. The outside world saw her life as idyllic and picture perfect. But of course, things are never what they seem.
After watching his philandering father tear his family apart and break his mother’s heart time and time again, Mick vowed to never cause another person that kind of pain. Keep it simple. No relationships.
But then there was the sweet, exotically beautiful Alex. There was always Alex. With her…things were never simple. She was forbidden fruit. His sister’s friend. Off limits.
Alex was head-over-heels for Mick the moment her twelve-year old eyes landed on him. She knew at this young age that they could never be. Even if he wasn’t her best friend’s brother, he was still Mickey freaking Jacobs. Now, all grown up, Mick is gorgeous, the life of the party and an eternal bachelor. He’ll never be able to give Alex what she needs, and she’s not sure she could risk the pain that giving Mickey Jacobs her heart would surely inflict.
Can Mick and Alex find a way to heal themselves by loving each other?
Lisa Shelby is a USA Today bestselling contemporary romance author, a self-proclaimed love geek, and cake-pop addict. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, this is still where Lisa calls home with her husband and their dogs. When she isn’t writing her next happily ever after, you can find Lisa with her husband traveling, listening to live music, and living their new empty nest lifestyle while pretending they aren't wishing their son would call or drop by every day.
The Queen Alexandra birdwing is the world's largest butterfly. How fitting that it is the name of one of the main characters in this novel. "More" is the journey of Alexandra and Mickey. A story that shows how Alexandra and Mickey were wandering through life until their fate is met. Lisa Shelby shares their story with us through impeccable writing that has us reminiscing over 90s R & B, laughing, crying, and falling in love with Alex and Mick. She phrases ideas and feelings with words that resonate with not only your heart...they touch your soul.
Lisa Shelby is back with the follow up to her debut novel You & Me. As much as I loved the first book in this series, Shelby continues to capture my attention and her sexy sweet heros continue to capture my heart. Mick has been in love with Alex since they were kids. But because she is his sister's best friend she is completely off limits and Mick has vowed that relationships are not for him anyway, and Alex is definitely a relationship girl. Alex grew up with a secret family-life, watching her mom be physically abused and never telling a soul. Alex is careful with her heart and never letting anyone close enough to hurt her. Especially not the sexy Mick who could easily tear her heart to shreds. There were times I wanted to shake Alex and tell her to get her head on straight while at the same time my heart ached for the things she was dealing with. I absolutely could not put this book down. This book could be read alone but I do suggest you read the first in the series, as you do not want to miss out on the amazing story. Shelby has earned herself a top spot on my list of must read authors. Check out this phenomenal new author I promise you won't be disappointed.
First thoughts: If I never hear "Sweet Thing" again, it'll be all right by me. I got VERY tired of it in the book. The domestic violence and such was handled very well, I felt. The whole "don't tell" aspect is a huge part of what allows it to continue and creates the feeling of shame. Repetitious portions.
Wow, this book was everything and more. It was great to come back to the group of friends I got to know and adore from book one, You & Me. The friendships that are truly a made family unit in this book and series is something very special. More, the book is a story that is filled with many emotions because it takes us on a journey that some of us could never comprehend and others could understand all to well, which is so sad. The subject matter in this book is one to not make light of and was written so well! It's breaks your heart but also lifts you up when you witness the strength that one could have in order to overcome some heartbreaking circumstances such as abuse. Also in this book is the daily challenges a police office must face. The struggles, fears and sad circumstances that happen daily and how they work through the aftermath of emotions later and find the ones they can lean on to help them through. Wait there is More...you also get a love that started so young, faced major challenges and yet couldn't be denied! A story about love, true friendship, being someone's rock when they need you the most, being their super hero and so much more. Loved the book, its was amazing:)
love these falling for siblings best friend romance. Alex has always had a crush on Mick, since she was 12, but knew that nothing would ever come of it, but Mick discovered her secret and now that's she's back and all grown up , Mick finds himself wanting her more, can he convince her that's she's worth it? loved it.
I have read the first book in the series and absolutely loved it. I was excited to read this one to see how the story would go. This story definitely lives up to the name...More. Lisa Shelby has a way with words and this book did not disappoint. I loved how the couple had their struggles. We are also able to see characters from the first book. I highly recommend reading You and Me first. I would definitely recommend this book!
Lisa Shelby hit is out of the park, with her second novel. You can read her maturing as an author with each page you turn. The story of Mick and Alex is an amazing one, lust, pain, joy, hurt, and one of true love between two amazing characters.
As a guy, I have to say that this book is different than the others that I have read in this genre. Instead of the standard love story this felt like a dramatic adventure and all you want is for the good guys to end up together. I loved this book and the story it tells.
Ok, wow. I really enjoyed Lisa Shelby’s first novel, You & Me, but in More, she seems to have taken it to 11. From Chapter 1, page 1 you are completely sucked in!
Mick and Alex both have their issues, but you KNOW that they are better together than they are apart. It’s certainly a rocky road in their journey, and there are definitely moments when you want to smack them both on the forehead, but the moments when they are actually on the same page are electric!
Lisa Shelby’s second effort is nowhere near a sophomore slump! If you enjoyed You & Me, you will LOVE More.
Another outstanding book by Lisa Shelby! Just when you think things can't get any better Mickey comes into your life. You know I thought I fell in love with him and his love for his niece and sister in You & Me but oh no my heart melted even further in More. His protectiveness, His loyalty to his friends and even his silliness brought me to my knees at times.
Mickey the life of the party who doesn't want to settle down may or may not be brought to his knees in More. Alex and Mickey's journey is a rare and unique one. I couldn't put the book down. From page one I was hooked - there were so many emotions that ran through me while reading. It was an emotional ride of why's and trying to understand the reasoning behind Alex and her actions or lack of.
Alex grew up in an unhealthy situation and it has filtered into her adult life in certain ways but after all of her struggles has found a way to overcome them and surge forward as best as she can. Subjects are touched upon that are heartbreaking and you just want to jump into the book and smack a few people but at the end of the day More has a beautiful story of Hope, Love, Faith and Finding Yourself again. All the while a "Sexy Beast" has been helping guide her, give her space and rescue her when needed.
Throughout More you can feel the love and support system that both Alex and even Mickey have. I truly love books that you not only get to know the main players in depth but there friends as well. What I would give to spend a night at the bar with Alex, Cami and Emily - what a blast that would be. Then throw in all of there hunky men and hot damn it would be a party. Lisa Shelby, the world you created is one that I pictured vividly while reading and I can't wait for the next book. More is a true friends to lovers to friends to lovers book. I loved reading their journey through all the ups and downs and in betweens .
More is a must read! I highly recommend you One-Click and see how Alex and Mickey's story plays out.
This story and the characters weaved a spot in my heart from the very beginning. The twists and turns Lisa takes you on throughout the book is an emotional rollercoaster that you will not want to get off.
The second book in the You & Me trilogy, More was the story of Emily's big brother Mick and her best friend Alex.
I enjoyed reading More, but I felt it was a bit of a drag. There was just too much of waiting in it.
To be honest, my favorite parts were the ones that included Emily, Ireland and Jonathan.
But I did like the basic storyline and wished that Mike and Alex didn't had to wait for SO long in order to finally be together.
I already read the 3rd book in the series, so with More, I've finally finished the whole trilogy! I must say though, my favorite was the first book itself. You & Me was longer than the other two, but it was the best too!
Anyway, I had fun reading More and it made me laugh, cry and so much More! <3
In all facets of the world you hear people talk about the dreaded "Sophomore Slump" but Lisa Shelby's new book has proven that theory wrong.."More" is just as amazing in the way it intertwines all the characters and story lines as her first effort "You and Me". We get to continue to know and follow people we met in the first edition and her way of making you care about these people and pull for them to find their way to each other shows her amazing talent is here to stay. "More" is the book you pick up and then have to fight yourself to put it down.
I was very impressed with this book! I fell in love with Mickey & Alex, I found myself really rooting for them to get together & stay together. Their story will pull at you heart but it is as so worth reading. I will say that if it has not been labeled, I would've really had problems knowing who was speaking.... so that was even not perfect in my book. The author never leaves you guessing!
"I want you to feel as cherished as you are, Alex. Because I cherish you, and you are mine. I need you to realize that you...are...mine."
Lisa Shelby has written a beautiful friends to lovers romance not to be missed. Mick and Alex's story had me hooked from the beginning. When you find your "more", time is endless and love does conquer all.
This a book that grabs you but you need to be aware there is some sexual graphic violence and details that occur that can CAUSE TRIGGERS. BEWARE.
When your heart finds it’s one it’s hard to change the course of your life mid-stream. At least while you’re in your teens, for Mick it seemed like that. His heart had stopped when he sees his sister’s best friend Alex. She was just the most beautiful exotic creature he had ever seen. Yet, he knew she was off-limits because she was his little sister’s best friend.
He was tortured daily listening to the girls laughing and talking. He so wanted to be in with them. Really, he was only two years older than them but it might as well have been one hundred at that time in their lives. By twenty-one, Mick is a police officer when he and his training officer get sent to a call and it turns out to be Alex’s home. All her family secrets come roaring out and Mick, he is the superhero that helps her through it never giving up her secrets away to any of their friends.
Several months later he is out with friends and he catches her on the dance floor after he watched her sneak in. Instead of throwing her out, he butts up to her and dances with her. Something he always wanted to do. From that day forward she became like the song he has for her, ‘Sweet Thing’ she’s his everything. Then years go by like eight, they become friends and no one even knows. They are their own core and when Mick has a bad day at work, she is there for him.
See how Mick the eternal party boy. All the close core of close friends know this. The one who swore he would never date, marry, or be tied down becomes so engulfed in this woman his friend that before he knows it, he’s in deep. She’s his MORE. That last chapter seemed awkwardly placed into the story. I totally got where she was going and her thought process cute but felt like an afterthought. In that ten years would have liked more info on them & this less thrown in, I guess. I give this: 5 stars. Free on Amazon.

More is the second book in the You & Me series. It can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading You & Me first as there are parts of More that discuss events from You & Me.
More centres around Alex; an event organiser and Mick; a cop who also happens to be one of Alex's best friends brother - and the man she has been in love with for as long as she can remember.
Whilst focusing on the unfolding relationship between Alex and Mick, More also shows the struggles faced by people dealing with the aftermath of domestic violence and its done in a very real way that will have the reader screaming at the book. I applaud the author for keeping the character strong whilst also showing how much she struggles and how easy it is to accept things instead of fight them.
This was a really sweet read that had me pulled in from the first page. The characters were well developed and very likeable and the plot was well thought out. The tone of the book stayed relatively light and made it a very easy book to read even though there were some dreadful events that could've made for difficult, angsty reading.
Overall, a very enjoyable, well written book that I would recommend.
After meeting Mickey and Alex in You & Me, I was excited to see them getting their own story. Their story also had me on an emotional journey. Filled with some extreme lows and impressive highs. There was anguish, despair, hopelessness, determination, hope, and fulfilling love. Another impressive plotline and perfectly penned dual point of views made for a really quick read.
Spoiler free review: This was a fairly cute love story, but there was a lot of repetitive chapters, paragraphs and the story dragged a lot at times. You can only read about how not ready someone is to be in a relationship before you’re yelling at the author. It’s ok if you can get past that.
This book had me right from page 1! I was laughing and crying and became so invested in the characters I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend to all lovers of romance!
