An introverted rich girl. A stripper cop. And a live-streaming kiss that threatens both their careers.
Cop Axl Moore is pretending to be a stripper for charity. But the cute blonde pulled up on stage seems to think he is the real deal.
When Leighton, director for the reality show Wedding Crashers, gets stopped by a cop she swears is actually a stripper, she’s determined to put the “f” in fun to save her job.
But their surprisingly potent kiss is caught on camera.
USA Today and New York Times Bestselling author Erin McCarthy sold her first book in 2002 and has since written over a hundred novels and novellas in teen fiction, new adult, and adult romance. Erin has a special weakness for high-heeled boots, beaches and martinis. She lives in Ohio with her family, two grumpy cats and a socially awkward dog.
I received this book from InkSlingerPR for an honest review.
Eep, I participated in the Release Day Blitz for this book (and the other book in the series) and was superduper delighted when I got a mail asking if I would also like to review the book. Hell yes! A cop who strips one day in the year, a girl who works for a reality show, romance, hilarious situations, what more could I want?
Meet our two MC's, Axl and Leighton. Leighton is from California and the first time she meets Axl is during a thing for her work. She works for Wedding Crashers, a tv show. She is here in this tiny town for a bachelorette party. Welcome to Tap That (brilliant name), and welcome to an evening of stripper entertainment. Little does Leighton know that Axl isn't a real stripper, so you can imagine when she meets him again (while she is speeding) she thinks he is just playing his stripper role. Oh, my gosh, I was just laughing so hard. I was wondering how long it would take her to understand that this was all very real. And that she was embarrassing herself tons. I loved Leighton, though I wish she was more body positive. She keeps contradicting. On the one hand she is fine with her weight, but on the other hand she keeps making comments about her butt, or her weight, or anything really. I think it is a good thing she met Axl who thinks she is perfect, and who reminds her of that fact. That reminds me of my own situation. I am also not always happy with my weight or how I look, but thankfully I have a very sweet fiance who compliments me and tells me I look pretty. I loved that she worked with a reality show/tv show, however I did feel sorry that she wasn't into this thing and would rather do something quieter and easier. That made me like her even more though, I just love bookworm characters.
Axl, our cop, who once a year (for reasons you will find out very soon) strips. Still as a cop (though not in his real cop clothes of course). He isn't that happy about stripping, he prefers not having the attention on him, but for this thing he would do anything. I felt so sorry for him when Leighton didn't believe him and even acted all weird. His decision at the end, not smart, and while I can imagine that he is attracted to her, you are still working. But I did like that he decided on a plan, though of course he mostly did it to just be closer to Leighton (which I found adorable). I loved learning more about Axl, his marine past, how he became a cop. Oh, and that he had aspirations to become a detective. I also loved that he fitted so well with Leighton. Yes, he liked the outdoors and fishing, but he was also a guy who liked some quiet time, didn't really like the attention, so that matches well with Leighton. Oh, and he was so sweet towards Leighton, knowing exactly when she was getting a panic attack, when her anxiety spiked. He knew precisely what to do about it. Some tender words, some hugs and holding her hand, rubbing her in the right spots.
I loved reading about the wedding, it reminds me of all I still have in front of me. Cake tasting, I cannot wait for that one. Finding a dress, hopefully I have more luck with the places I will visit. And then there is the wedding and the location (which we have, but now we have to make it pretty). Ah, I can't wait. *swoons*
And with the wedding, of course I also liked reading about the reality show. The interviews, the things that they had to do, the meetings. Though I didn't like Leighton's boss. :|
There are also sexy and steamy scenes. And a few times in which the characters talked (in their heads) about their attraction to each other. While cute, I did get tired of the whole: My cock is pointing upwards, or my cock is twitching, or I am getting wet between the legs, or my nipples are getting hard. It was just a bit I don't know, weird and embarrassing. It is something I see happening often in romance books, but really, does anyone think like this all the time they see someone they like? I know I don't. Or well, maybe a tiny little bit, but really not all the time. As for the sex scenes, I am still not too used to reading them, and I still feel embarrassed reading them, so I kind of skipped/sped read through them. They were just a bit too steamy for me. :P Maybe in a few years I won't mind them, I know I have already changed a lot these past 9 years. First I couldn't read them at all, now I am just slightly embarrassed. Oh, oh, and I was reading this book while waiting at the doctor (still sick and I was curious what was going on) and I was just praying that the woman who sat next to me didn't read what I was reading. Because oh boy, some of these scenes. *blushes*
I am so happy with the ending, I was worried that
All in all, a delightful, cute, funny, sweet, romantic, fabulous book. I couldn't stop reading. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a cute and sweet book with great characters.
Dear EM: Fire your editor. I cannot remember the last time I read a book with SO many errors in it. Honestly, it made me angry! EM does not deserve this level of disinterest from an editor. EM, get Nora's editor or Nalini's editor or Mary's editor! Any of them would be thrilled to have you! So, she drops her phone, and she notices that the screen has not been damaged, and she puts it in her purse. Obviously, there was a slight plot change and this scene was no longer needed, but her editor forgot to take it out. Constant interchange of him/her, he/she, his/hers--what happened the most was using the same sex, so that he reached out and took his hand! over and over and over. and instead of the word "reality" the word used was "really". Can you tell I'm totally annoyed?
OK! this starts out a little silly--the part where Leighton doesn't realize this is a real cop. in fact, it was so silly that I almost put down the book. Thankfully, I continued on and found a LOVELY, SWEET, SENSUAL ROMANCE. The story of the romance between Leighton and Axl was very lovely and enjoyable. It also has a wonderful sense of humor. And having Leighton be a person who had panic attacks was a nice touch---made her really real. So, hats off to EM and FIRE that editor!
this is a sexy funny romance story. When Leighton Can Buren got a phone call from her boss saying she had to step up her game or be fired .She's in a small town called Beaver Bend,Minnesota. When she got to the bar to meet the bride Winnie Schartz .Leighton was expecting a biker bar not a neighborhood bar that was having women's night and when she walked in her mouth dropped open. There were four gorgeous men stripping on stage bumping and grinding. There was a hockey player, a business man,a mechanic and a cop. When she looked at the cop she was breathless,he was a real man. When Winnie saw her she hugged her and asked her to join them.Leighton really didn't want too but hearing her boss in her mind she knew she had too. Then the men said for the bride to come up on stage she took the bridesmaids an grabbed Leighton up there.Leighton could hardly breathe she got bumped into the cop an he caught her then she was trapped between the cop and someone twerking her panic attack was seconds from being full blown. When the cop grabbed her pulling her to the back of the stage telling her to breathe and listen to the music his hand came down to her hips an they slow danced to a fast song when she started singing to the song .When she saw away off stage she rushed down and got back to the table. After all the guys got through Axl walked to the bar and naught a wine he went over an someone gave him the chair when he offered her a glass of wine she looked like she was afraid of it so Axl drank it an said damn that's sweet.let's go to the bar an you can watch it being poured so she went man not because she wanted to spend time with him. Then she got nervous an said she had to go.Leaving Axl wanting to know that get to know her he headed home. The next day Leighton was driving fast when Axl pulled her over an she thought her boss hired him to try an get her to up her game. When Leighton was over the top trying to suggest sexual things Axl thought that she was either drunk or on a complete nut. When she finally realized he was a real cop she almost died of embarrassment. Then without think it over Axl stalked back over he grabbed Leighton an kissed her senseless. Will Ask and they work together to try and save their jobs.Since the groom decided he didn't want to be married and the kids went viral Axl was in trouble with his boss. And if Leighton didn't up his game she be out of a job. What will Axl and Leighton do? this story is funny and sweet and shows how love has a way of hitting you when you least expect it.
A year after their first charity strip show, the gang gets back together to put on a new show.
Axl is a quieter, more observant member of the group, and his interest is piqued when a beautiful, curvy non-local shows up and reconstructs his every thought about relationships, timing and love.
Leighton Van Buren is not used to men finding her beautiful until Axl Moore looks at her like he's hungry and she's the meal.
I liked that the author didn't totally follow the usual plot with these types of stories. Leighton, for the most part, is a pretty well-adjusted adult. While she's conscious that her mother wishes she was different in a lot of ways, she's content with her looks and weight. Axl is also fairly well-adjusted. He's comfortable in his skin, and isn't looking for validation from his peers or family.
I look forward to more stories from this series.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
Axl meets Leighton at the second annual charity strip show he participates in, and instantly recognizes her as a kindred spirit. When he pulls her over for speeding and she acts like she thinks he's not really a cop, things really start to get interesting. Soon they're both having to pretend to be engaged to protect their own jobs, while their simmering chemistry and growing emotional attachment make it hard to focus on the pretend aspect of their relationship.
Axl is beyond sweet and romantic, even though he can't see himself in a long-term relationship. Leighton is stronger than she thinks, and really needs to experience real-life outside the Hollywood culture she grew up in. Together these two make a wonderful couple, and my only complaint is that the book ends with more of a HFN than a HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is the second book in the Tap That series and features characters we first met in Stripped Down. Axl is content with his single lifestyle – he’s a loner, but not lonely. Leighton, as the unassuming Creative Director for a reality TV show, struggles with being in the limelight. Life suddenly becomes complicated for them both when they find themselves in a fake engagement to save their jobs because of one steamy kiss that was caught on camera. As they go through the motions of planning their upcoming televised fake nuptials, the lines begin to blur and both wonder if they’re still acting. Can a real and solid relationship emerge from the ashes of a fake one? The story is well written; fun and sweet with many endearing moments, plenty of humour and several very steamy encounters.

An absolutely fantastic well written and emotionally deep romance! The storyline is flawless, funny, witty, and very interesting. The story flows smoothly and moves along at a brisk pace with some ups and downs, intrigue, and a mix of emotion on every page. The chemistry between Axl and Leighton is intense and their sex scenes are well-written and HOT! This book met all of my expectations and then some! From start to finish I was held captivated with the overall quality, the wonderful story line, and the very interesting characters. A really passionate and exciting read! I can hardly wait to read the next book in the series. Definitely recommended.

When you start reading this book don’t worry if you think you’ve already read it. It begins almost exactly like the first book in this series only a year later. Same players, same Tap That Dancers, same routine. But there is someone new in the audience. Or, rather a whole crew from the Wedding Crasher reality TV show is in the audience. They are there filming a bachelorette party. For their next episode. Which may or may not happen. That’s where the fun starts.
This is book two in the series but it could be a stand-alone. It does help to know some of the dynamics in the Tap That friend group, but it is not necessary. If you want a cute, quick, and entertaining story, you'll still enjoy this one.
The guys in this Minnesota town are all falling in love. Axl, Officer Hottie, is a local cop who takes part in the yearly strip dance for cancer due to the death of one of his closest friends wife. Leighton works on a television show Wedding Crashers and she's in his town changing a couples wedding plans in a week. Leighton arrived in town the night of the benefit. Axl was definitely interested. They certainly had strong feelings for each other. You'll have to read what happened when he stopped her for speeding, how their web of lies caught them. Written by Cindy :)
I LOVED this book! Axl and Leighton were hot, sexy, and perfect together. I completely adored Leighton’s character. She had me cracking up with her mishaps, especially a certain scene where she’s pulled over by a certain cop. Axl is kick butt, but more on the reserved side than his “stripping” crew.
I enjoyed catching up with all the secondary characters we met in book one, and can’t wait to see who’s story we get next!
If you are looking for a sexy, well written story that you will devour in no time, this is definitely the book for you!!
I'm loving this series by Erin McCarthy! Strip Search is Axl and Leighton's love story. Little did they know that their can't keep their hands off each other kiss was going to be splashed all over the internet, but when it does it threatens both of their jobs so they try to take care of it with a fake engagement. However they both soon realize that fake has nothing to do with it. They no longer want to play at this relationship instead they want the real thing.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
As someone who has been called butterface due to having cleft lip/crooked nose...reading that term immediately after one of the funniest lines ever was like having ice water thrown at me.
For those who don't know, it's primarily a derogatory comment made about women with attractive bodies, but unattractive faces. Also, I, and a number of females with cleft lip, facial deformities, and others have had this ableist slur hurled at us too many times to count.
Too bad. I was enjoying this read, but that's a hard nope for me.
I loved the progression of the story - but Leighton seemed slightly inconsistent. She was slightly insecure about her self-image but was quite self-possessed and easily decided on things for work (including her fake wedding). Although I’m glad she didn’t excessively counter Axl whenever he told her she was sexy and beautiful, she capitulated quickly when she felt insecure and he did counter her. Was that mostly because she readily and implicitly trusted Axl?
The rest of Ms. McCarthy’s books in this series aren’t on Kindle Unlimited, though … ? 😭
I really enjoyed reading this book. It had lots of humor, fun sexy times, and real issues. I liked how the heroine had flaws and embraced them. She wasn't seen as perfect, however she was perfect for Axl.
Axl is a small town cop and enjoys his solitude. He never expected to run into Leighton and end up marrying her after a week and being on a tv show. Is this real life??
A great read, with great characters, and an enjoyable story line.
"Strip Search" by Erin McCarthy is a steamy romance novel that follows the story of Axl Moore, a cop who goes undercover as a stripper to help Leighton, a woman fighting to clear her name and save her job. The characters are well-developed, with intense chemistry and steamy love scenes. The writing is engaging, with enough suspense and action to keep the reader hooked until the end. Overall, "Strip Search" is a great choice for anyone looking for a steamy and entertaining read.
I just loved this book it is the second book in the series and is even better than the first one. I just loved Axl and Leighton, he is a cop that strips and she works on a reality show even though these two are complete opposites they are just perfect for each other. This was a really fun yet sweet read and I loved it
What a fun book. I will be reading more of her books. She does a reality show. He is an ex military cop. Her show falls through at the same time he stops her. And then the fun begins. Things really go wild from there. It is exciting, fun, hot, emotional and so much more. I received a review copy from booksprout and voluntarily review it.
It has been quite some time since I have read any books by this author, for years I use to buy her paperbacks. When I saw this book I thought why not and am I glad I did, I now want the first book in this series. This book had me smiling as I read Axl and Leighton's story. This book made me laugh at times it was so good. It is a good book with wonderful characters. I hated to see it end. Now I am anxious to read the first book in the series and then the rest of the series when it comes out. A new author for me to enjoy.

He is pretending to be a stripper and she is rich and bored. A kiss when she is stopped by the same cop leads to a fake engagement. Will this become a real relationship? Will it safe them.from bigger troubles? See if it will

This is the hottest and best written story I've read in a while. Awesome character development with realistic dialogue and a believable plot. There's some really hot spices in the bedroom, but the sauce never feels overdone; just right. I'm looking forward to many more stories by this author. Kudos to McCarthy, a true wordsmith.
This book is AMAZING! I literally laughed out loud more than once while falling in love with Axl and Leighton! A stand alone with a HEA and A MUST read! I hate I have to wait until Jan for the next book;(
I enjoyed this new story in the "Tap That" series! I enjoyed this fun story! It's a charming story with great characters! I loved Axl and Leighton!! What great chemistry, passion and situations. A video leads them to fake and then to real. What a journey!
GAH!! This series is amazing! This is the second book in the Tap That series but can be read as a stand-alone. Erin McCarthy has a way of bringing these amazing characters to life and I love it! So much heart and love *and lots of steam*!! FIVE STARS!!
