Suddenly becoming a hero sure is handy when you’re about to lose your job…

As prosecutor Greer Galloway faces imminent unemployment due to no fault of her own, she never considered that silly write-in campaign to get her elected court clerk as a back-up plan.

But the citizens of Devil Springs had other ideas. Greer actually wins, to her utter shock.

And to the utter disgust of the widely-disliked incumbent, Dirk Fulton. When he threatens to sue, Greer wonders if her new job is worth the lawsuit that will come with it.

Then Dirk turns up dead. And guess who becomes the prime suspect?

Unless the real murderer is discovered, Greer can forget about keeping her newly-won office—and perhaps her freedom.

A Devilish Election is the second book in the Devil Springs Cozy Mysteries Series.

A Devilish Election by Jennifer Bramseth
Devil Springs Cozy Mysteries #2

Looking for a cozy mystery that challenges with more than one murder and suspects that are plausible but with a kicker ending? If so, this is definitely a book I recommend...especially if you like a bit of legalese within your murder mystery and prefer non-fluff but a bit more depth to this genre’s usual offerings.

This is a new series by an author I admire and have followed from her first presentation of fictional characters wanting their stories to be heard. Bramseth has taken her knowledge of the law and of the state she lives in to carefully plot and then create books that are different and delightful. You might need to wait to hear about how things will work out in the end but there are no cliffhangers...just a lingering desire to find out “what happens next?”

Okay...enough said…

This book picks up on what is happening in Devil Springs...a new locale for a series that I believe will provide great fodder for readers wanting more from a cozy mystery...or perhaps those who want something different from what has come before. This series takes place in a beautiful locale with people mentioned that I want to know more about. There is overlap with previous books by this author but mentions are just a hint without taking away from the story being told. A person mentioned, if you have read previous books, is a bit like saying, “Hello” then “Goodbye” while thinking...wonder what s/he has been up to.

So, an election… Greer Galloway is a lawyer working in her home town. She was employed to do most of the work and spends hours focused on what she believes needs to be done. Burned out in a different type of practice of law she is finding her past infringing on her present as she wrangles with job security and what to do next.

There is so much to this story that I can’t share more. It is a book I highly recommend and do hope you will pick up. I sit on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what will happen next in this corner of a fictitious world created and populated by a lawyer with vision and creativity and hope that she will keep writing for years to come.

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Greer has not had an easy year. She wins the write in campaign for clerk but then even more strange events happen in Bain County which causes the election board to hold off on certifying the election. She has to deal with being a suspect in a murder, a lawsuit being filed against her and a car that just keeps giving her grief. There is an amazing cast of characters that lends a great depth to the stories in Devil Springs. I loved all the layers and intricacies. I truly didn’t know who did it until the exciting reveal which shocked me. It was also wonderful to see Greer embrace Brock’s pursuit so that after all the chaos, she may even get love too. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Have had the joy of reading all of Jennifer Bramseth’s books. The Devil Springs series is a slightly different departure from her other series, however she doesn’t disappoint in her story and story development. The one thing I absolutely adore about Ms. Bramseth’s books is how she includes everything legal but at the same time makes it so that the lay person can understand. She is one of my favorite authors to read. Love how she includes not only cameo appearances of past Bourbon Springs and Bourbonland people, but also places. Do yourself a favor and read this book.....and series!!

Grace sure has more than her share of unexpected events that create plenty of drama. Somehow without trying very hard she gets to be a suspect in a murder, accused of voter fraud and the town darling. It was fun reading about all of her entanglements and then the final results. With all the twists it's hard to guess who did murder a few folks. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a little humor, drama, intrigue and mystery in their reading.

There are many twists and turns that will have your head spinning trying to figure out who the murderer is. I recommend this book if you like cozy mysteries. I really do enjoy The romance series by this author so it truly pains me that I find these books so boring. I have them in my TBR because the very generous author made all her ebooks available for free at the start of the pandemic.

That said, revisiting the world of Bourbonland and Bourbon Springs makes me want to reread them all again!
