When the Supreme Court asks for help, it’s an offer she can’t refuse…
Buford Blankenship was the worst attorney Greer Galloway ever prosecuted. Now the supreme court has appointed her as special counsel in his quest to be re-licensed. It’s a tough, time-consuming task on top of her regular job as Bain Circuit Court Clerk.
Then as Greer is preparing her case, she gets the unwelcome news that her office has been randomly chosen for an audit—scheduled to begin the first day of the reinstatement hearing.
There’s no shortage of people who hated Buford: an ex-wife, a former law partner, and the judge who replaced him on the bench.
Not to mention Greer herself.
When a key witness disappears just as the hearing begins, it looks like Buford is on his way to getting his license back. But then someone else goes missing, throwing the entire case into chaos, as the audit threatens to become a personal and professional disaster for Greer.

A Devilish Character by Jennifer Bramseth Devil Springs Cozy Mysteries #4
Every wished you had said no to a person you could not refuse? Greer Galloway must have been feeling just that sentiment as she undertook the task she felt she could not say no to. As she prepared for the hearing regarding the future of Buford Blankenship she was also under pressure to prepare for a conference and an unexpected audit of the office she is in charge of. She has a lot to do as she tries to get all of her ducks in a row. She is also a bit worried that the time it will take might put a bit of a crimp in the relationship she has with Brock. When a few people turn up dead she is once again found sleuthing and putting her life on the line. At the end of the book t here is a hint of what might lie in her future and I am eager to find out just what will happen next in this woman’s life. NOTE: This is not your typical cozy mystery...Greer is an intelligent woman that just seems to fall into situations that see her finding out who the murderer is while she works hard using her law degree as a matter of living her life and doing her job.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I like to read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Wow!!! What a book!!, I have thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Bramseth’s past books, but WOW, if I could give this book a six star rating I would! This has been my favorite book so far (full disclosure, I have said that about everyone of her books). This book is full of twists and turns, and switches on switches. Every time I thought I figured it out, there was another plot twist. This is about the continuing story of Greer Galloway, the Bain County Circuit Clerk. Her life has changed from the being a lawyer, to assistant commonwealth attorney, to circuit clerk to.......well you need to read the books. In this book, everything is happening at once, a reinstatement proceeding (which she really shouldn’t have had to be a part of), an audit of her office, coordinating a convention, oh and tracking down missing witnesses. To say her plate is somewhat full is an understatement. This is definitely a must read!! This is a legal suspense and intriguing book. Yes, it does have a lot of legalese, however Ms. Bramseth is a master of making the most complicating legal matters understandable to the non-attorneys.
I have received an advance copy of A Devilish Character for an honest review, and quite honestly, I am impressed and think you would be too. However do yourself a favor and read them in order, you will get much more enjoyment out of them.
Greer loves the law and when the Supreme Court asks her to take on a case, well, she couldn't say no. Of course, the case has her working again to prevent Buford from getting his law license back. Something that is frustrating since she fought hard to have him permanently disbarred. But as with most things that Greer ends up working on, this case becomes a crazy mess. I always love spending time in Devil Springs as these intriguing mysteries take place. These stories build on an already amazing cast of characters while adding more depth and dimension to the nuances of their lives. As always, the twists and turns in this story surprised me while letting me into this amazing community. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
A Devilish Character is the fourth book in the Devil Springs Cozy Mysteries series. In this book, Greer finds herself once more, right in the middle of a murder mystery that involves more than one devilish character. She is asked to act as special counsel in a reinstatement case by the supreme court. Just as she is starting on this, she gets word that her office is being audited and then things start happening, people go missing, the audit causes turmoil and Greer wishes she had never agreed to any of this. There are lots of twists and turns in this story that keeps you guessing. I enjoyed this book and know you will too! Thanks to the author for this ARC. Looking forward to the next one!
I received an advanced copy for my honest review. I love the Devil Springs series and all the characters that appear in these stories. This book finds Greer acting as Special Counsel by request of the Supreme Court, working to keep a disgraced former attorney and judge from getting his law license back. Things get stranger and stranger as the body count keeps rising. What is going on? Who is behind all of this? This story has all kinds of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. Enjoy!
Like fine Kentucky Bourbon, this series just keeps on getting better. Greer once again finds herself in a pickle not of her own making. As the sweet people of this small once again has a murder mystery on their hands. Greer is called back to act as counsel and revisit a case she would rather forget. This is another winner by Jennifer Bramseth as she tells another smooth story from Bourbon Springs.
As many twists and turns running through this little mystery as there are curves driving on my beloved Western Kentucky backroads! Jennifer keeps you guessing till the end! I will hate to see this series come to a close. I love getting to catch glimpses of my childhood stomping grounds when reading her books! Well done!
A bunch of typos were already frustrating me, but changing the name of an important character from the first two books pushed this already dragging story down from 2* to 1*. Sorry, Jennifer Bramseth, but I really feel like you should return your focus to Bourbonland and tie up those romantic relationships still waiting on a HEA.
This series has been such a page-turner! Before you even have a chance to try and figure out what's what - a little bomb drops, then another. Not in a confusing way, don't get me wrong, but in the I can't put this book down until I know what happens way
I absolutely love Jennifer Bramseth books. I wish I could get in touch with her and I know if she's going to write anymore cuz I would love to read them. Please if you get this let us know if you're going to write anymore .
Oh my, Greer gets into another entanglement but this time she sort of had a little push (not literally). She is asked by the Supreme Court Chief Justice to be special counsel for a reinstatement case. How can you say no the the Chief Justice. From that point on other things start happening; such as, her main witness goes missing, the lawyer wanting to get reinstated goes missing, the president of the circuit clerks’ organization resigns and as VP Greer has to handle the upcoming conference, and her office gets audited. I recommend everyone to read this story to see how all this works out. I thoroughly enjoyed all the ups, downs and sideways included in this story.
I always live visiting Devil Springs! It's always entertaining to see what scrapes Greer manages to find herself in the middle of while doing her job as Clerk and trying to navigate her relationship with Brock! This story brings her back to being a lawyer for a case on top of being the Clerk. How will the in things work out? Will Greer return to her old job in Frankfort for good? Will she and Brock ever get ther happily ever after? Those are always questions that may or may not be answered in Devil Springs!
