Debut book of author always has a piece of author's soul in it.This book also contains own life experience of writer Sadashiv Pradhan. Author tries to show inside scenario of B-schools of India and so called B-schools culture. Storytelling is simple but effective at the same time. The style will go down well across a wide spectrum of readers mainly among youths and students. Narration is simple and easy.Characters are developed well and relatable too. Cover is good.Title is catchy.Title 23:59:59 shows the deadline of projects, quiz,GD given by professors that adds phycological pressure among students. After reading it you will realise that in the rat race of education system we overlook the passion. You will step back and reevaluate your choice and decision.
Highly Recommending this book to those people who wants to pursue MBA in future.
Since it was written by my B-School batch mate, I was really curious about this book. I wanted to know if the characters and events were inspired by any of my friends or other batch mates. I also LOVED the title - 23:59:59 is something that holds great significance in B-School life.
While the grammar in this book is really bad, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. On one level, I got to relive the two best years of my life. Every aspect of B-School life is covered in this book - the parties, the politics, placements, grades, committee selections, contests and even the sports rivalry. All the little things that felt so earth shattering-ly important at the time. It felt so good to see it all from the different perspectives of the four main characters of the book. I loved the friendship between the four of them, and how relatable and familiar their lives seemed to me.
On a deeper level, this book made me think about some things that we deliberately avoid thinking about. A lot of questions that the characters were unable to answer about themselves made me question my life too - Why did we pursue an MBA degree? Did it really teach us what it was supposed to? Would we be happier chasing money or our real passion? Does it make sense to take a risk? Do we regret our choices? Will we ever know if we did the right thing?
For those who have already been in a B-School, read this book if you want to relive your experience. For those who are planning to enter one. read this if you want to know what's in store for you.
23:59:59 is a very different and informative plot that i had came across in recent times. This story holds lot of informations and live experiences in it. This story is all about four B-school friends Jay,Shalini,Ishaan and Abhimanyu. In this competitive world it is not at all easy to get an admission in the educational institutions that you are dying to join in. These four gave their best and printed their foot in one of the top best B-school of India. MBA was definitely a hard challenge for them to accomplish. But their journey was just extraordinary and extremely difficult. They gained and learned more than what they came search for. Each one of them have their own passion and dream. Despite all the struggles and self doubts, they somehow finally got to choose their respective right path between passion and money. How all these four buddies are strongly attached and succeeds by sharing their knowledge, experience, Love, time, friendship, success is the story.
My voice: 📒When I started the reading I really had no idea that i would love this book this much. 📒The author had done an excellent job by giving us this wonderful plot in a very casual but in a interesting way. 📒It's kind of significant life journey yet an enjoyable one. 📒Kudos to the author for making an educational plot this much engrossing and thought- provoking. 📒The narration and language was splendid. 📒 Everything that one need to chase their passion is packed here. 📒I really felt like why the book ended after the first part. 📒Best book for any MBA aspirant and for all who is still thinking why MBA. 📒 We could feel the reality and happiness of the decisions that we are taking in our life from our heart.
Highly recommended to everyone👍👍 I would like to give it a 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5 rating!!
Book Review #23:59:59 the journey of survival in B schools of India by @sadashivpradhan Publisher : @bluerose_publishers Story of Jay, Shalini, Ishaan and Abhimanyu starting at Jays casual entry into the top B School in India. Question asked to them is why MBA? Ishaan wants to learn and apply the knowledge for upliftment of his Village. Eventually he drops out from the program with respect but later doubts his decision to an extent. Abhimanyu aspires to earn money, bags the coveted job on campus, only to say that Money is not everything. Shalini has nothing of these idealogies but has been a constant friend to them all, to saving Ishaan from expulsion to placing Jay. Jay is a football blogger, his ambition is to become a Football club manager, whats he doing in B school?
This is a story of friendship, love, ambition and typical on campus life. I have loved reading it and cried with the gang at times. Their hectic life style echoed our rat race lifes and emotions expressed ours! The books initially slow, picks up great pace in the later half. Also, I loved that Shalini did not have an affair with the 3major guys and friendship was highlighted, and that they all had never say die attitude and bucked up one another, irrespective of anything. Loved them all! Josephine is also a breath of fresh air. Although its a 4/5* for me , there are three things I did not like! * I understand Shalini was fat but I did not like the way, she was written of, it appeared derogatory. She being a major part of the story never shaped up well. * Narrative is broken at parts * Book has grammatical mistakes, not well proof read! Ps: Dear author! You could write a sequel to this!
Book Title: 23:59:59 The Journey Of Survival In The B-Schools of India Author: Sadashiv Pradhan Format: Paperback
Book Title: The title of the book is ‘23:59:59 The Journey Of Survival In The B-Schools of India’ clearly gives a picture that the book is about a business school.
Book Cover: The cover of the book is a digital image of the numbers with few words which are relatable with the content in the book.
Plot: The story revolves mainly around the three characters Abhimanyu, Jay & Ishaan. The story comprises of various aspects as passion, the life of an MBA student, money, culture of the business school and much more such aspects. Three main characters with a different vision towards studies and life are portrayed very well. One of the best thing in the story is that the characters continue to believe their choices and always welcome the aftermath. Are their choices right? What happens to the three friends who have different views on the course they take? Will they change their opinion? Well, you need to read the book to know what happens next.
What I like: 1. The characters and the sequences between them. 2. The feelings and the emotions carried out by the characters are very much honest and relatable. 3. The author's attempt to make the readers understand the environment of a business school is applauded.
What I didn’t like: The narration part was pretty good but got dragged a little bit. Other than that we cannot find any negatives in this book
Characters: All the characters in the book are lively and remind someone very familiar.
Narration: The narration was good and let the reader complete the book at one go.
Language & Grammar: A clear language with neat and uncomplicated grammar is used in the book
My Final Verdict: A book which displays the Indian business school culture in a straightforward way.
Book Title: 3/5 Book Cover: 3/5 Plot: 4/5 Characters: 3/5 Narration: 3/5 Language & Grammar: 3/5 Final Rating: 3/5
23:59:59, The Journey of Survival in the B-Schools in India: The story narrated from 4 different perspectives about how students see their life during and after B-School. While some of the people join with a clear vision of minting money, other wanted to earn knowledge of Business Administration but the largest chunk belongs to the one who don't know their aim or as the much dreaded question goes "Why MBA".
The story follows the path of Abhimanyu, who has the sole aim of placement in a company which gives the highest package and for him morality is a subjective term. Ishaan, who has joined to gain knowledge so that he can convert his project into a successful business thereby providing job. Shalini who wants to study hard and get a well settled job and lastly Jay whose passion is football and he is still trying to figure out why MBA.
The story deals with the daily life and pressures of studying in a B School with an undue importance to CV points and placements. What everyone wants to gain is the brownie points to make their CV better and learning seems to take a back seat. How the four protagonists deal with this situation in their own ways form the journey.
Their are minor characters which put stress on substance abuses, position abuses, cat fighting etc. The way author has combined it into story shows the hard work done.
The only disappointing thing about the book is poor editing and thus lot of grammatical mistakes. Also the font size is inconvenient to read. Apart from this the story itself is definitely worth reading.
23:59:59 isn’t just a book, it’s an experience. You get to step into the shoes of people from different wavelengths - as they find each other and support each other through this systemic rigour.
It’s a telling tale of friendship, motivations and selfishness. (Had to quote Abhimanyu) Folks who have been to these B Schools, it’s a reminder of all things big and small that you must’ve been through, taking you down the memory lane.
With characters, going through a plethora of emotions which is captured brilliantly; Jay, Abhi, Ishan, Shalini - all of them could very well be your friends and you’ll end up strongly feeling for them as the clock keeps ticking through chapters (book reference :)
This is the first book that I have read by this author and my one takeaway is that I am going to be following his works for sure.
‘23:59:59’ is a very intriguing title and unless I read the blurb I would have mistaken it for a mystery thriller ut refreshingly it is not.
This is the first time I am reading a story set in a famous management school in India and taking us through the life of four students in it. Superficially it seems that Jay is the protagonist s the story begins and ends with him but then when you read the story it is as much a story of Abhimanyu, Ishaan and Shalini. These four students meet eah other in the first week of college and decide to be project partners and there begins their exciting roller coster journey. The books takes us through their up and downs in personal and academic life. They are in the stage of life where they are questioning the statu quo but equally are part of the system. It is this fine line that the author treads through these characters. They became endearing to me. The fast pace is set not by the narrative but by the fact that me as a reader wants to now how their story ends.
This is one story which was not a mystery thriller but still has the vibes of a thriller. Along the way the author also teaches you a lot of life lessons through various characters. So this blend is what I liked the story for. Although physical descriptions of the characters were not vivid their personalities do come across to us as the story progresses.
I absolutely enjoyed the story and if I have one qualm…its about how the story ends and I sincerely want to to know if the author has a sequel in mind. Also there are a few grammatical errors and a crisp editing can overcome it. Notwithstanding this fact, I enjoyed the journey of reading this story. There are no clichéd elements in it but it still made me be alert and read the story and be hooked toll the very end. Kudos to the author for this effect.
I highly recommend this book to all readers and those who will particularly enjoy it are the college students and people who have been through the B school system and want to relive their college days
The story of 23:59:59 revolves around three friends Jay, Ishan and Abhimanyu. The Book is not only about the life in a B-school but also asks and answers many questions about life and passion.
Like most books focusing on the nuances of the business world, this one goes to the 'Passion versus Money' route. Reading through the first chapter, you get a vivid sense of where the author, Sadashiv, is going. The main characters were introduced and the overall tone was established. It is then that the real questions about life and passion arises.
The satisfaction I get from this book cannot be understated, or overstated. It has given me glimpses of myriad memories from my own student life. Sometimes, in life, we get caught up in our career and overlook the passion. This book does have that déjà-vu magic. And above all, it succeeds as an enjoyable piece of literature.
Sometimes you liked a book so much that you don’t know how to review it. Yes, exactly same happened with me after completing reading this book by a fist-time author. Yeah…you heard right! After reading this B-school based novel I was stupefied for some time. To be honest, I never thought that it is going to be such an intense and tightly packed novel.
I have seen in my review career that either the first-time author impresses you to the core or they give you nightmare. Nothing to worry, as this book – 23:59:59 by Sadashiv Pradhan is worth read and time and money. Probably, as a first-time author he had put in a lot of efforts to make it a best-seller. I hope it becomes – as it deserves to be.
What’s the story is all about? The main theme of the book is to struggle or survive in a good B-school. Imagine you studied hard, went for coaching classes, sat for entrance exams like MAT, SNAP, CAT, etc. Ok, you got admission in one of the top 10 or 20 MBA colleges of India. Is that all? Is your life’s misery and struggle for luxury over? So, do you think that in an MBA college, you will study like an obedient school kid, get good grades, and go out for the best of best job in the world? Dude, wait a minute…there is a thing called competition. The MBA College where you landed is not a school…it is a place where super genius like you are available in hundreds. Can you beat them all and be on top of all? No, you cannot beat them by just your talent and caliber. You need to be shrewd, diplomat, and super merciless kind of a kid. Yes, that place is something where you stopped basking in the glory of old days and begin a new struggle because there everyone needs best placement. So, the question is how will you get the best of best placement – I am sure there are hacks and tricks you can discover once you are in there. This book has a lot of tricks and hacks to tell you. Well, you need to grab this book for that. On the top of everything, you should know that why have you enrolled for MBA – it is not local fun coaching class where you can have a lot of fun and leave in the evening. After going there, don’t seek answers as why you are doing this course. You should have clarity in mind well before the time.
Are the characters worth? Yes they are competent and highly unreliable. I must bring them forward. In total, in the book, there are four main characters – Jay, Abhimanyu, Ishaan, and Shalini. They come from diverse background and become friends and form one group which is called as 23:59:59 – because in their B-school every assignment has to be submitted with before X:59:59. So, I hope you got the point as why the title of the book is little clumsily but still relevant and innovative.
Though the author has tried to put Jay in limelight in the form of main character, but I feel they all grab the same highlight and act towards the overall theme of the book. It is a delightful experience to see as how these guys fight and survive in the B-school. The author has put in a lot of efforts in telling as why placement matters most to MBA guys. Is everyone running for the placement – I think yes. In the campus, there are elections, committees, placement cells and all that matters in an MBA college. Overall, I found the book spicy and well-placed with the settings along with a good pace. I hope after crossing a few chapters you will find it a riveting read and surely try to recommend to other readers or students who are lusting after MBA degree.
Final message is that one should not pursue any degree just for the sake of it or to mint money, at times passion is also important. Passion gives pain initially but it is worth in the end when you bask in the glory of achievements.
I found this book different, not weird, from cover to its title and theme and all. The title 23:59:59 – a numerical title for a general fiction book is a rarity. But when I read the book and got the logic behind it. Though the cover of the book could have been much better, for instance, there should have been some people or buildings or objects etc. Be it that way because one should not judge a book by its cover, right? Yes, the central theme of the book is written all over the book: the journey of survival in B-schools of India.
When I read the synopsis, my first assumption was that I am going to read another self-help book that will teach us as to how to prepare for MBA exams and get placed for a better job. I was wrong when I begin reading and by the fifth chapter, I found myself glued to the book because of one reason: I begin falling in love with the characters. They started evolving. And at the same time, I found all characters crazy and impulsive and high on instinct. Imagine the blend yourself. As expected, they form a group of four. In the blurb there is three people’s name, there is Shalini as well. She is from their group, very intelligent and straight in her mind as she knows as why she is in the best B-school of India, unlike her male class fellows. She is more closed to Jay but if you are thinking that they both form a love affair – better give a break to yourself. She cares for all; and works hard for their well-being, especially for Jay and that stubborn guy Ishaan. How did she put her best efforts to help Jay and Ishaan gets revealed almost by the end of the novel. Yes, you are right, you got to read this novel!
Other than that group’s strength and their friendship, I found a substantial amount of drama that pervades in any B-school. The only difference is that here the drama is shown manifold and we as readers begin feeling the pressure the characters must have been feeling had they been real. Now and then, there is that quiz, that competition, that debate, and not to sideline serious of elections. I mean there are so many committees in a B-school, just like the cabinet of prime minister office. The fight is for that only and you have to survive….no….no don’t think of winning. There no one is winner…even if they win they lose something, either self-esteem or like Ketaki you got to sleep to a stranger. I mean in B-school getting a good placement is nothing but a bloody business. I wish the author had put in a bit less inside drama and focused more on friendship, betrayals, affairs, and other philosophical stuff. But still, the novel looks perfect. I still loved it.
Coming to language and narration, Sadashiv sounded like an experienced writer. He is good at storytelling…can you believe he is a first-time writer. Climax and plot are all fine, you realize them at the right time and beauty is that the writer has given an equal amount of space and privacy to all characters, especially the male ones. Those who went for MBA and those who are planning to do, please don’t ask questions and grab this book fast. I promise it is a fantastic read.
Review : 23:59:59 , as the title itself vies for gives us a comprehensive overview of how life happens for MBA aspirants in Business schools. Putting forward a fictional story with with bitter truths, Sadashiv Pradhan has apparently talked about almost all the situations that can happen in B-Schools and that is very impressive. Right from the most competitive and toughest examination that is required to get into such school upto the rigorous classes, placements, assignments, quizzes that happen during their degree ,this book tells it all.
The story follows our protagonist Jay,a somewhat famous football blogger who despite not wanting to pursue MBA ,gives into his parents wishes after cracking his MBA entrance examination with great marks. In the initial part of the story we get to see how Jay,tries to cope up with his business studies and makes some great friends while doing so.
I absolutely loved the protagonist's optimism and the way he thinks. He tries to give the best in everything he does and doesn't fear failure. Also, the fact that even after joining his MBA he kept up with his blogging is admirable. To be honest all the other charcaters were impressive as well. The author has tried to build characters, by giving them different prespectives. Each character has their own reasons for joining B-school and the way the path that they have decided to follow to achieve success is different as well and that is the actual reality, isn't it? How some aspire to reach their goals through hardwork and dedication while some others just using their cuningness and manipulate others to reach the top. While some actually want to gain knowledge others are their for a money loaded future.
Such were the drastic characters that the author brings to us. All real. Not one character overshadows other be it in terms of dialogue or thinking and that is to be applauded. The writing style is also swift and has a simplicity and flow to it. The author tries his best to put forward a lucid sketch of B-schools in India and succeeds in most parts.

Review :
🌟 The Title is very unique and so is the story.
🌟 Language is simple and easily understandable.
🌟 Readers can instantly connect with the characters. The story is very relatable. We all have been through this phase where we question ourselves that, why are we doing this ?
🌟 The author has described every aspect very wonderfully. First day in college, the stress to get good grades, fear of failure everything is described beautifully.
🌟 The book describes the education system and the college life in more realistic way.
🌟 Characterization is good and readers can instantly connect with them. I liked Ishaan's character the most. He tries to keep his calm even In the worst situation, that's what I like about him.
🌟 Cover was good but it could have been a little better.
🌟 My overall experience with this book was amazing and I can totally relate to it. I recommend this book to everyone especially the college students. They can surely relate to it.
'Why MBA' is a question that every MBA aspirant faces in their interview or otherwise. I have also faced it. And this is a question to which people usually say they don't have a reason or an answer but trust me everyone has one. It's just that it may not sound appealing to the interview panel so we mould it .
The book depicts the B-school journey of Jay, Ishaan, Abhimanyu & Shalini , students of top B-school. Every character portrays different characteristics and thought process. Some believe in survival of the fittest and being selfish as not a very bad thing while some others value ethical code of conduct and for some others friendship is everything. Some are there for money, job, tag etc. yet some purely for their dream and passion.
It also shows the whole chaos in our education system where the whole purpose of education gets dissolved because there is no value addition anywhere. Everyone wants to have a good job, high pay package . Institution is keen on making everyone placed so that their brochure may shine for the next year admissions. No actual learning happens anywhere. As a result the mentality of students also gets twisted and they run to improve their CV points rather than focusing on the learning part.
The cover of the book gives an overall idea about a B-School. In my opinion the book should have also mentioned some interesting things such as CSR activities, conferences, seminars, culturals etc as it mostly focused on just placements. Anyone would think B-Schools are hell and boring otherwise. The language is simple. I liked the way how each chapter ends with the same line. :D .Recommended!
This is a very nice story of an MBA student, along with some of his friends, who struggles hard to justify his potential that he has scored good percentile to get admission in one of the best MBA colleges of India. If he failed to perform, what about the peer pressure, how will he face his parents criticism, and what the education loan repayment.
Jay, the main character of the novel, is a simple boy who comes from a middle-class family. Until before getting into a B-school, he was fine and happy and doing good with his Football related blogging and writing. On a prick by a common friend Ravi, he clears the MBA exam and gets into it without a second thought. Little did he know that whether the aim of his life is to do MBA for earning a fat salary or pursuing football dream i.e. he wants to get into football field, not as a player but someone working for them as a analyst or blogger or history keeper etc. His dream is tough because in India football is played very rarely or secretly. So, the question is would he choose to do a good job or get into a football club.
Though football is in his subconscious mind, he is a student at an MBA college. He is confused as he cannot understand where his life is going. This is increased by the shallow culture of B-school and there the competition among students to outdo each other is razor sharp. Will he be able to sustain all that to complete his studies or will he come out of it before time or go for a football-field job.
There is a lot of drama inside the B-school and a lot of morality-changing questions that haunt not only Jay but also his close friends. I cannot reveal the entire story but I promise that it is a lovely read, the kind of intensity I witnessed here is simply superior. Very well-written book, with no grammar mistakes. Go for it....don't even ask why or why not.
23:59:59 by Sadashiv Pradhan is a present-day fiction that takes us into one of the best B-schools of India. Unlike many college or IIT stories, it is not about fun, friendship, or affairs. In fact, I found this book true to its stance, as its tagline says: The Journey of Survival in the B-schools of India.
The heat is always ‘on’ there. Students have no option but to jostle each other, backstab, and sideline each other. They all are fighting for getting placed better as their parents have put in a lot of money. Abhimanyu, one of the leading characters, who also is a member of 23:59:59 group, is lusting after money like anything. His passion, his craze and the truth that he can go to any extent to see his family happy is worth commendable. Among all characters, he is the shining star. He is clear and obsessed with his dream. I did like other characters as well but my heart goes for this one.
If you love heated drama and melancholy in snatches, I would love to recommend this book to you. Sadashiv is a promising writer. I hope in his next books, he finds his core genre, as this one is good but somehow looked based on his B-school experience.
23:59:59 speaks to all who have ever faced the ticking clock of submissions, deadlines, presentations and have managed to press the send button before the minute is up. Starting with race to get the coveted admission and the struggle to survive in the B School life, it's all about making the choices which you can live with - be it a choice between academics and extra curricular, between your personal goals and friendships, to the ultimate one - Money or Passion. Sadashiv makes the characters so familiar, that you associate with every step of their journey - be it confusion Jay feels, the drive that Abhimanyu possesses, the passion Ishaan thrives on, or the logic that Shalini brings. It makes the book a real page turner, you just can't put it down. The journey which these characters take on is unique yet relatable to every person who already has been a part of this mad race, or wants their bite of it. A must read for those who want to get a sneak peek in the Glam world of MBA, a must read for those who want to relive their story, a must read for those who want to take a step back and evaluate their choices, a must read for those who want answers to their 'What If'?
"The world is not black or white but shades of grey" - 23:59:59 written by my very talented senior from XLRI - Sadashiv Pradhan - manages to capture this fact of life perfectly. As the protagonists go through the rough and tumble of their 2 years of b-school life, they face difficult choices at virtually every step. Sadashiv has beautifully portrayed both sides of the debate at every occasion without clearly pointing out a right or wrong decision. With every choice that the protagonists make, you are left to think back and ponder upon any similar choice you would have made in your b-school life. I am sure the journey from wide-eyed naivety and innocence in the beginning to cold, hard cynicism and stoicism that some of the characters undertake will be familiar to many. 23:59:59 is an engaging read for both b-school graduates as well as aspiring students. For the former, especially XLers, I am certain it will make you relive your hey-days on the campus with every page you turn while MBA aspirants will find it an eye-opener to the true story of b-school life.

Title : 23:59:59 - The journey of Survival in the B-School of India.
Blurb : The blurb is written in a manner as most of the B-School asks a Question to the Student i.e. Why MBA ? And the fact is not many knows the answer to this.
Review : This book is about the B-Schools which provide good degrees along with the Placement offers. Same way in the name of CULTURE a lot many things happen. Jay is a die hard fan of Football and he wants to make a career in football , he writes blogs on strategies Footballers use while playing etc. He forgets the world when he watches the Football match and when he is writing his blogs . His passion for Football has no bounds. Jay and Ravi are two friends, Jay is casual and least bothered about results whereas Ravi is always worried and curious about results. Jay passes out with good results and gets admission to B-School and Ravi wants to do MBA only from Best B-School of India. According to him worth of a degree lies if it's done from a best top schools. Most of the people in India go for MBA but not many have an answer to Why MBA . Some have casual answers as for one more extra degree adding to CV , or Nothing else has value or salary is high or else best answer would be searching out from Google and give a copy pasted reply.
This book is about Jay , Abhimanyu, Ishan, Aniket and Shalini. Jay joins the B-School for the sake of his parents without knowing Why is he opting for MBA. He becomes friends with Ishaan, Abhimanyu , Aniket and Shalini. Ishaan joined MBA with a clear intention of Getting knowledge and learn things and follow his dream. Abhimanyu who had to run a family and felt it will provide him a great package. Aniket who was only to enjoy drugs and party & Shalini who wanted to become a great Manager. This is the insights of the book. I started reading this and I could never manage to put this book down. Despite not going to a business school I lived the life of it through this book. The narration explaining different hours of different days is just brilliant. Capturing beautiful college friendships leaves you nostalgic. Definitely a must read!
I came to the book after reading an excellent review on Amazon. However, it took me a while after I finished it to decide whether I liked this novel. Inconsequential stories of everyday life in B-schools are transformed into prose that is in places poetic. Even after I finished reading it, I kept thinking back about the book - not the specific reason perhaps, but rather the main ideas and feelings.
In India, MBA is conjectured as a money-minting degree. Hence, students from across the nation strive for this degree that too from a reputed college. The new-age novel 23:59:59 by Sadashiv Pradhan possesses the same question.
Read on to know more about this book and about why I think you should give it a try.
Now, this article is divided into five categories.
• Ratings and stuff about the book. • The synopsis of the book. • My views on the book. • About the writing style.
The title itself gives us a comprehensive overview of how life happens for MBA aspirants in Business schools. Putting forward a fictional story with bitter truths, Sadashiv Pradhan has apparently talked about almost all the situations that can happen in B-Schools. Right from the most competitive and toughest examination that is required to get into such school up to the rigorous classes, placements, assignments, quizzes that happen during their degree, this book tells it all.
Contrary to normal colleges, life inside an MBA college is much hectic and there is a nerve-wracking pressure to make a perfect CV since the very first day. The feel of cut-throat competition is evident by seeing how students jostle for placement committee selection, desperate class participation, placement for an internship, grades, sports, election and so on.
The story follows our protagonist Jay, a somewhat famous football blogger who despite not wanting to pursue an MBA, gives in to his parent's wishes after cracking his MBA entrance examination with great marks. In the initial part of the story, we get to see how Jay, tries to cope up with his business studies and makes some great friends while doing so-- Abhimanyu, Ishaan, and Shalini. They all have made to the best B-school in India, it means they are brilliant, and good at studies, but that’s not enough.
Through the eyes of these characters, we see that life inside a B-school is anything but common. The lust for money, the pursuit of passion, the urge to win every time, and to remain superior all time are some of the basic human traits that have been captured in the novel look inevitable.
• My views:
I did not find this book as a page-turner this does not mean that it was slow, it was surely entertaining but not a page-turner. The narration was strong and lucid but the overall story was rather tedious. Anyway, this was my review of the book. Now I have listed a few points on why one would like or dislike the book.
-Why I think you would prefer to read this book:
1. If you are a beginner to the reading habit then this book is a good read. 2. This book is a decent read If you want to learn about B schools in India. 3. The author has tried to build characters, by giving them different perspectives. Each character has their own reasons for joining B-school. 4. Read this book if you want to learn about any of these five factors: Career Choice, MBA, Culture of a B-school, Passion vs. Money Lust and Blogging.
-Why I think you would not prefer to read this book:
1. It was overcomplicated and I was lost and the author had to come back to the main thread again and again. 2. I read it just for the sake of reading but I nothing got out of it. 3. It was almost like a usual Bollywood movie with a monotonous plot.
• Writing style:
The writing style is the most basic one, hence easy to understand even if there are professional terms, most of them are explained for readers. The vocabulary used is fabulous, appropriate and relevant. The story is narrated in third-person point of view and mainly focuses on the protagonist Jay who, at the beginning least cared about pursuing an MBA.
In conclusion, I'd say that this book is a decent read with a fairly good narration but a monotonous story. There is only one thing that I got to learn from this book, that is the world inside a B-school (which was, according to me, pretty much the objective of this book). Read this book to know about B-school(only).
So, this was my review the book 23:59:59 by Sadashiv Pradhan. If you like it, please share, comment and like this article. Until then, happy reading! 🧡
Sadashiv Pradhan, in his contemporary fiction novel, attempts to familiarize the reader with the world of Business schools. In doing so, he unearths the cut-throat environment within these colleges and tells of the daunting task that lies ahead for the students. Just as there is much conjecture surrounding the pursual of an MBA degree within Indian society, this work mirrors the various thought processes with which students embark on such a rigorous journey. 23:59:59 is the story that encompasses the experiences of many, but in particular chronicles the lives of Shalini, Jay, Abhimanyu and Ishaan.
As an outsider who has always heard of the tribulations pertaining to being an MBA student, I was really interested to see what the author had to offer on the subject matter. And it wouldn’t be far fetched to say that it was a very insightful glimpse into the lives of these students. So, as far as the intent is concerned, I am glad to have picked it up, because you actually get to see what the lives of MBA students are like.
However, the writing style and the execution of the plot completely overturned the efforts of the author. There were too many editing errors and even in terms of language, there were considerable mistakes that hampered my reading experience. It is understandable that being well versed in a language is a continuous process, but I felt that this story could’ve been presented in a much more polished way.
Moreover, every chapter ends with one of the characters using a certain (cuss) profane phrase; it was probably meant to add some humor, but only ended up irking me more. What was interesting to observe was that unlike many novels, this one doesn’t have a distinct beginning, middle and end. There are a series of conflicts and crises that these friends go through; their determination to come out victorious is something that is captured by the author. Themes of friendship, ambition, education system in India, ragging, bullying are some among the many that you’ll read about.
There were moments when some of the characters would display problematic mindsets; slut-shaming, objectification and substance abuse were shown to be a consequence of the same. I think Jay was the only character in the book that I moderately liked. He comes across as someone who stands out because of his non-stereotypical representation. The others’ weren’t very convincing and would at times depict contradictory behavior.
On the whole, because there were quite a few aspects of this book that didn’t work for me, I would not recommend it.
Thank you Sadashiv Pradhan for sending me a copy of your book in exchange of an honest review.
23:59:59 The Journey Of Survival In The B-Schools of India by @storytellersada - ‘Why MBA?’ is one of the most haunted questions every B-school aspirant has to answer in an interview. When I first saw the title I thought it might be a thriller or mystery book, until I read the description. One can understand the reason behind the title after reading a few pages. I really loved the cover of the book. The blue color gives the feeling of calmness and a sense of truth, which makes the book more appealing. The story mainly revolves around the characters Jay, Ishaan, Abhimanyu, and Shalini. Except for Jay, Each has their own goals they wish to attain by doing an MBA. The author showed how the view of success and life differ based on different persons while putting together a true-to-life story. As an MBA graduate myself I can relate well with the characters and similarity of B-School life: The tension of deadlines for assignment submission, the pressure of exams and a terrifying period of placement pressure and depression. The question, money or passion, Resonates in everybody's mind when they think about their career. The protagonists also need the answer to the same question. The simple language and fast-paced story with its unique title cover, and storyline had me hooked to the book. Overall, a unique and realistic book. I recommend this to everyone and mainly to people who are thinking of pursuing an MBA.

23:59:59 by Sadashiv Pradhan 🌸Blue rose publication 🌸Rs 250 🌸236 pages 🌸 Fiction BLURB- Set in one of the top 5 B schools in India, this is the story of Jay, Abhimanyu and Ishaan. Jay is a total football freak and it's visible since his introduction. He isn't much into MBA, but incidentally gets into one of the top 5 B-School. It's nothing less than an adventure for Jay. Here arises the question of money versus passion. Join them in their journey of schooling and find their motive behind MBA. Find out their vision for future. Opinion- Education system in India is very disorganized and poorly built. Earlier the guru's taught in ashram's only to the young male Kshatriyas. We have come a long day since. India has made compulsory education till the age of 14 which is good. However, the real problem is perhaps not with the question of access but rather the quality of education being provided. The huge number of exams, unhealthy competition, grading, money factor, unfair reservation makes the whole deal very taxing. 🌸It took me double the time to read it because of the smaller font. Apart from the font size and few grammatical errors it's a delightful ride. 🌸The title is intriguing, sort of a good weird. To say I was curious and confused is an understatement. 🌸 The cover is eye-catching and as mysterious as the title. 🌸The narration is descriptive and wonderfully done. Lucid narration, moderate pace and simple colloquial language makes it a easy read. 🌸An unique plot, provides the different visions of a student's life. I have never read a story based on a B school before. 🌸 The story provides an insight into Indian business school cultures. The confusions of students, 'What to do?' Or " why MBA?" Are aptly depicted. Elements of friendship, ambition, love, money and passion are present making it a worth it story. 🌸 Recommended for MBA aspirants.
‘Why MBA?’ is one of the most haunted questions every B-school aspirant has to answer in an interview. No matter what he or she answers to get an admission, very few have a clue why they are doing MBA, and those who do, their answer seldom has anything to do with Business Administration. This is a story of Jay who gets an admission in the best B-school of India without knowing an answer to the question ‘Why MBA?’ Nevertheless, in his journey, he meets two friends, Abhimanyu and Ishaan, who have an answer to this question. For Abhimanyu it’s money, whereas for Ishaan it’s passion. As a faith would have it, by the end of Jay’s journey, he faces the dilemma–money or passion! What would Jay choose? Will Abhimanyu and Ishaan regret their decision of single-minded persuasion of money and passion? Will B-school journeys of Abhimanyu and Ishaan help Jay in making the final decision?
The book depicts the B-school journey of Jay, Ishaan, Abhimanyu & Shalini , students of top B-school. Every character portrays different characteristics and thought process. Some believe in survival of the fittest and being selfish as not a very bad thing while some others value ethical code of conduct and for some others friendship is everything. Some are there for money, job, tag etc. yet some purely for their dream and passion. The author has tried to build characters, by giving them different prespectives. Not one character overshadows other be it in terms of dialogue or thinking and that is to be applauded. The writing style is also swift and has a simplicity and flow to it. The author tries his best to put forward a lucid sketch of B-schools in India and succeeds in most parts
I highly recommend this book to all readers and those who will particularly enjoy it are the college students and people who have been through the B school system and want to relive their college days.
